I stopped by last night for some Pad Thai. I was delighted to see the hours posted after doing there before and told we are closing soon and we can't take your to go order. I vowed never to go back but after a great deal of time passed I decided to give them a shot. My food was pipping hot in temperature which always delights me. After doing errands at Alderwood Mall, we wanted a meal nearby. Instead of going to our usuals, I did a quick search and found Charm Gai, a Thai restaurant within an easy walking distance. The restaurant is a reasonable size and nicely decorated, not fancy, not divey, either. Service was practical and simple; we didn't need much help, ordering quickly so we can finish eating before closing time. Overall food quality and flavors are homey, approachable, though none had a wow factor. If I live nearby, I would likely eat here regularly. However, I would not purposely drive a distance to dine here. The Food: Chicken Wings, $11.75 - 4 Stars Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these are tasty though not unique as a Thai dish. It is in a strip mall. The tables are wooden as are the chairs. The floor is impeccably clean. There are small vases of fresh flowers on every table. The sweet, kind lady behind the counter was so incredibly helpful. She saw us struggling with the menu and came over to help us. I ordered the Phad Kee Mao with chicken. Spice level 2. Lots of veggies. Mushroom, red peppers, tomato, carrots. The chicken was a bit dry, but the overall flavor was fantastic. We tried three different dishes between the two of us (with lots of leftovers) including beef pad see ew, the special spicy noodles and a tofu green curry with white rice. The pad see ew was really tasty and had good flavor. The spicy noodles were good but not as good as the pad see ew but also packed with flavor. The tofu green curry had a many chunks of delicious fried tofu which I enjoyed, but of note they used regular eggplant (not thai eggplant) and there was no bamboo. Prices were very reasonable for portion size (of note, rice is extra charge on the side for curry) and overall a decent place. This is an underrated thai spot in the Alderwood area that doesn't look like much, but will become a favorite once you try the food. I got the chicken phad prik king and the special tom yum noodle which I haven't seen at a lot of thai restaurants. Both dishes were delicious but I must say that the tom yum noodle was definitely my favorite. The broth is absolutely delicious with the right amount of sour and saltiness, and the noodle completes the dish and makes it more filling. The phad prik king was pretty standard, but I definitely wish it was a bit spicier for 3 stars so I may do 4 stars next time. I came on a weekday afternoon so it wasn't that busy. There was only one server but it didn't take too long to get the dishes. However, I could definitely see it being a lot slower with only one or two servers during peak hours so I would keep that in mind. On another note, I really appreciate that their menu is very easy to read, and they put stars next to their recommendations so I don't have to ask. They have really cute peppa pig dishes and small cups that are kid sized and accommodate well to families. The place is clean and bright in an unassuming little strip mall. Service is hit or miss hence the four stars - when they get busy they sometimes only have one waitress working. It resulted in our dishes coming out unevenly and me having to go up to the register to get mine after all my family was served. Otherwise service is pretty friendly. Not too long ago, I decided to search for the best Thai restaurant in Lynnwood since it's seemed hard to find a well made Phad Thai. I eventually came across Charm Gai which impressed me. Keep in mind, I'm comparing this place with other Thai restaurants of the same level. So this is not going to be compared to Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen that near it. I started coming here during the pandemic and ordered take out since dine-in wasn't available. With the mask mandate lifted, I was able to dine-in for the very first time. I came in pretty late because they were almost ready to offer take out only and start closing up. I was lucky enough to get a seat and get served. The service was quite good since they refilled my water whenever I needed it. The way I determine a decent Thai restaurant is by basing it on the quality of their Phad Thai dish. This hit the mark! This has been the most flavorful Phad Thai that I have ever found in Lynnwood. I usually get the 5 star spice level and ask for extra chili powder on the side, but this time, it wasn't necessary to get the extra. This was just enough spice for me without taking away the flavor. I was sweating and drinking quite a bit of water which was exactly what I wanted and hoped for. The Phad Thai was saucy which I have found a lot of other places lacked. I like the sauciness a lot. Very flavorful. It had a good amount of meat and veggies. It did not feel like I was just eating only noodles which I have experienced at other Thai restaurants in the area. They had pot stickers here too which I, of course, had to order. This definitely was not pan-fried which I preferred over deep frying potstickers. Deep frying takes away the juices of the meat in the dumpling and I did feel like this was a bit dry. The outside was very crispy though and I do like that. The Larb Gai felt like a large portion which was good. The cabbage was a bit weirdly cut though where I couldn't really use it as a wrap for the meat. It was still quite good and the spice level was not overpowering. Based on the Phad Thai overall, this is very good and that means a lot coming from me cause I'm pretty hard to please beyond my average opinion. If you're looking for fantastic standard Thai food in Lynnwood, this is the spot. It's at a great location by the mall too. read more
