I had a sudden craving for Pad Thai yesterday and realized I had never tried Charm Thai Bistro despite the fact they're relatively close by. I haven't found a truly delicious Pad Thai in ages so I was hopeful they would have a good one. Setting up delivery was easy. I only wanted the Pad Thai but they have a really varied and nicely priced menu. Plenty of options if you want a bigger meal. I went with the chicken Pad Thai. The delivery site said they would text when they delivered to ensure contact less delivery and it would take 45 to 50 minutes. It came much quicker (not a surprise really since they're down the street) and they called instead of texting so I definitely didn't miss the call. Very nice woman on the phone. The portion was huge. Probably the biggest portion of Pad Thai I've ever gotten. More than worth it for the low price of $12. I actually had 3 meals (well if you want to count the period between lunch and dinner as a meal, haha) out of it. It was done perfectly. Flavorful and not heavy but very light with nicely cooked chicken and just the right amount of other flavors. Delightful comes to mind when I think of the meal now. I'm definitely going to order again (maybe even this week!) and am interested in trying some of their other menu offerings. read more

I ordered lunch from here via a catering service during the work week. Because is this, I can't comment on the service or ambiance of the place, so this review is based on the food alone. I ordered the brocolli and mushroom dish with chicken. It was decent but didn't wow me. The portions were okay, not a ton of chicken. I didn't love the flavor of the broth the chicken was cooked in. Order lunch here and wanna saw how cute main street Wakefield is getting. Everyone was so very friendly when I walked in. I ordered to go/pick up. They made it so welcoming There's only a few tables to sit down and eat, to me a better take out spot than dine in. There is only street parking if you can find one, I had to go down a side street to find a 15 min spot. I ordered the veg udon thinking I would get it as is for the price it was on the website, but then when I added it wanted to charge me an additional $1 for the veg and was literally just udon noodles in garlic sauce. I was a little bummed there was an up charge for the "veg" when I think it should come as described, and obviously any additions from the standard should be charged. But since I'm a plain jane I did house my whole plate of simple udon lol I would love to order from here again! Wish it was close for delivery! read more

Favorite Thai Takeout in Wakefield. I order from here very regularly. It's a cute hole in the wall type place with excellent food. Service is always great - friendly and quick. Few of my favorite meals: Charm Thai Fried Rice, Pad Woonsen, Drunken Noodle, Red Chicken Curry, and Green Chicken Curry. Everything is fresh and flavorful, not overwhelming or bland and the portions are great - I usually get two meals out of it. They are not stingy with the protein either. The Thai Iced Tea is also made really well here. It's right on Main Street - when you can snag a parking spot right in front/on Main Street it's a dream, but there is a parking lot and (side) street parking right around the corner. They also do delivery if you prefer or need that. There is only one maybe two tables inside so it's definitely a takeout joint, not an eat-in kind of restaurant, but if you are craving Thai food and want something delicious, this is the place to go! read more

We ordered take out via DoorDash for pick up on a Friday night and it was the worst experience yet. It was my first time at Charm Thai Bistro and will probably be my last. I ordered at 5:30pm and received an email at 5:56pm that my order was ready for pick up-- It stated to skip the line and go straight to the pick up counter. It is a small place and they only allowed two customers in at a time which created a line outside in below 10 degrees weather. I waited nearly 30 minutes outside to finally go in to realize my order wasn't even at the pick up counter as it stated it was... I waited an additional 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me INSIDE the restaurant. I was finally able to grab an employee's attention after she got off the phone and I was later informed my order JUST "came in," meanwhile I got the notification 50-55 minutes ago that my order was ready. Her response was "we are too busy." I get it, you're busy but I should have never gotten an alert saying my order was ready at 5:56pm if it really wasn't even after waiting 30 minutes outside and 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me waiting at the front counter.. The employee insisted I wait and since I ordered through DoorDash it was much slower. Apparently the restaurant can only stall drivers but not customer pickups... Regardless, I should not have been told my order was ready if it really wasn't whether I am the driver or pick up customer. By this time it had been well OVER an hour since I got the alert saying my order was ready and she could not guarantee she was able to rush the order, so I insisted she cancel my order but she told me she couldn't... We came to the agreement that it'll take 10 additional minutes so I waited in the car to allow other customers to go in. She brought it out to my car in an additional 20 minutes. We ordered the following: -Massaman Curry $14.95 -Mango Fried Rice Dinner with White Rice $13.95 -Pad See-U Dinner with Crispy Chicken $13.95 -Tom Yum with Shrimp $5.00 -Thai Ice Tea $3.95 -Pad Thai Dinner with Crispy Chicken $13.95 When I got home there was a leak from the Massaman Curry dish that spilled all over the brown paper bag causing the bag to rip. The Thai tea also spilled all over the plastic bag as well. Their take out packaging needs improvement. We were really excited about this place after reading these reviews here on Yelp, but we were disappointed as the food was just okay and average. Our favorite dish we ordered was the Massaman Curry and of course that was the one affected. The Mango Fried Rice only came with 4 pieces of mango and the mangos were bad. The dish was interesting and we were not fans. The Pad See-U had no taste. We were a fan of the Tom Yum with Shrimp but just a tad bit salty for our liking. They were a bit stingy with the shrimp. The Thai ice tea was good but again, really poor packaging as it leaked all over the bag. Lastly, the Pad Thai with Crispy Chicken was super average. All the dishes that consisted of chicken didn't have any flavor. The chicken was super bland and dry as if they made the chicken a while ago in bulk and reheated it when a dish required it. Moral of the story, do not order from DoorDash as a pick up customer or expect to wait past your "order is ready," alert. Also, do not get your hopes up for this place because the food was super average. However, I do recommend the Massaman curry, Tom Yum, and Thai Ice Tea! I was craving a mean pad Thai. Though not recent, the Yelp reviews for this dish were great, stating that it is flavorful and came in a large portion. I typically order from another Thai place around the corner but I was feeling adventurous to try something new. We ordered online early on a Saturday to beat the rush and it was literally ready in 10 minutes. I was happy to see contactless pick up. Now, about the pad thai---I would agree with the first review about the flavor. Oftentimes pad Thai dishes can be clumpy and lack flavor, but it was a yummy, peanuty dish with accents of scallions and bean sprouts. I ordered the crispy chicken, which looks like chicken fingers sliced up and out on top, so that was weird. Though they tasted good, it didn't see to fit. I don't know what I was expecting, but it seemed like two different elements in one container. In terms of the portion, it was average. I'll get two meals out of it. Hubby ordered the mango curry and gave it 3.5 out of 5. He said the sauce was too thin and the chicken to vegetable ratio was poor. However, it had good flavor. We also ordered the spring rolls. They were just fine to me, but my husband liked that they weren't greasy. The inside was a bit too mushy to me. It came with a light dipping sauce that I wish was a little spicier. Overall, we'd give a 3.5 if we could. Good flavor, but just missing that little something to make the dishes cohesive. My girlfriend and I just had a meal delivered. The food was very good. You need to pay close attention to the menu's Spicy logos, though. The single spicy-logo rangoons and the chicken wings were really good. The Drunken Noodle entree was a two-spicer. This one surpassed our spicy heat tolerance for sure. Ordered DoorDash for curry noodles, green curry, shrimp basil fried rice, drunken noodles, and gai ka prow, all very fresh and arrived in Reading (10mins drive) still really hot!! Got take out from here recently as I explore what Thai cuisine offerrings are available in the North Shore. Got pad thai with tofu as well as a crispy eggplant with panang curry. The flavors were crisp and on point with no overly sweet or sour notes. Ingredients used were very high quality and I appreciated their authentic approach to some simple dishes. I'll continue to order from here as well as visit to see what the atmosphere is like, but there is a lot on the menu that any thai-american would not hesitate twice to order. Everything I have ever experienced with Charm Thai Bistro has been overwhelmingly positive. The staff are so friendly- will remember us by name - and go above and beyond to be accommodating. I have a gluten allergy and they will call to clarify menu items and if something can't be made gluten free then they find alternatives to make sure I'm still able to try out their different menu items. I've never met staff who have been so willing to accommodate for a food allergy and it's been amazing. To top it all off their food is absolutely delicious, always cooked well with great flavor! Charm hits on all the fronts that matter for take-out Thai. The people are super friendly on the phone, food was ready right on time, the quality was good and the price met expectations. We'll most certainly be ordering here next time. On to the food: the kids got spring rolls and pad thai, the pad thai was very good with distinct lime flavors and nutty, but subtle fish sauce. The highlight of the menu were the charm dumplings that were great on their own, but came swimming in an amazing thai curry sauce and had fried shallots on top. Just order these, you will thank me. My Gra Praw Gai (aka Ga Prao Gai) was spot on with the flavor and heat - i ordered it spicy. The lettuce wraps were not the favorite dish of the night, but the use of romaine was nice. Finally, the drunken noodles were solid, all ingredients were crisp/fresh and great flavors.
