They even fit me in before Christmas ahead of schedule. Wasn't cheap but considering amount of work done I think it's been totally worth it. I saw the photos of the debris on the shelf and inside the chimney!! The other company removed Half of a 5 gallon bucket of debris. And they showed me a nail or screw one damper that was not secured during the first cleaning. So I am very disappointed - did JCS even do anything? Oh, and I paid double to JCS rather than the second company for the same services. TLDR: I do not recommend JCS

We recently experienced a chimney fire in our 1971 home shortly after moving in, which was…read moreincredibly stressful. The owner personally came out, inspected everything, and took the time to explain what was going on and reassure me that it could be fixed safely. That personal attention meant a lot during a pretty scary situation. After paying the deposit, they moved quickly, within a week we had an entirely new chimney system installed along with a new cap. The work included removing the old flue tiles and throat damper, installing a UL-listed stainless steel liner with a lifetime warranty, insulating the flue, parging the smoke chamber, and installing a new top tile and top-closing damper system. Everything was clearly explained as they worked, which I really appreciated. The total cost was $5,400, which felt very fair for the amount of work, quality, and peace of mind we received. I know just enough about it to understand how it can all go wrong, and I've felt taken advantage of by contractors before, and so when I got to the point where I felt I could no longer tolerate the deterioration I was observing in my garage, I went to look for a mason. I asked around a lot. The boutique guys, preservationists, and artisans mostly didn't get back to me. One failed to inspire confidence. Another guy stood me up. Another wouldn't go into the city. One never got me a quote. Another guy was very nice and knowledgeable but quoted me a price so high that it had me looking at DIYing it. The search was not pleasant. Brick brothers was different. Stephen understood my concerns about the materials and the work that was needed, he showed an understanding of the principles of brick and mortar masonry on par with the fancier guys, and he quoted me a price I could actually afford. My only critique would be that the written quote lacked detail, but we adequately covered the scope of work verbally. It took two Saturdays, and I'd rough guess 48 man-hours. I'm so glad I didn't have to go the DIY route. Now the way brick goes it's probably at least 5 years before one can be certain that the work is right, but based on my conversations with Stephen and my own observations of his work, I'm confident that I'll see no spalling on the repaired areas. And having seen a few rains since the work was done, I can already report that I'm no longer seeing water infiltration in the repaired areas. So for brick repair needs, Stephen of Brick Brothers hits that rare intersection of competence and price which makes his work a great value. I would absolutely recommend him for any brick masonry needs.
