Excellent Indian restaurant with nice fish curries, naan (which they have in cheese & garlic), mango lassi, ice cream desserts and assorted beverages. Service is exceptional and prompt (they even bring the food out to you). Interior environment also very cool with an awesome mural of Bollywood movies and another one with a cool art design. Highly recommended and check it out in downtown Detroit!

as the only Indian spot downtown, this is definitely a go to for me. I had their butter, chicken, their lamb vindaloo, and obviously their biryani. they let you pick the spice level, but are very true to what the spice is. So definitely don't be afraid to go for a little spice which definitely enhances the flavor of the dish. I thought everything was quite great, they were really fast with it, and there are some tables inside to sit at and enjoy. I thought the biryani was definitely their best dish, with a lot of added flavors, very tender chicken and the sauce that they give you to put on top definitely do that because it helps with a bit of the dryness of the dish.

    Can't wait!

Solid Indian food. Smells amazing, everything just needed a bit of salt, which is easily fixed, and better than being too salty. We ordered samosas, the Tandoori mixed grill with garlic cheese naan and lamb vidaloo. The samosas were quite good and the sauces that go with are yummy - one sweet red sauce and one savory green cilantro sauce. I really liked the green one and dipped my naan in it too. Fried well, seasoned inside, and not greasy. The garlic cheese naan was perfect - cheesy, herby, charred, soft and chewy. Highly recommend. The lamb vindaloo was saucy and smelled so good; lots of tender savory lamb, and it comes with a side of white rice, perfectly cooked and fresh. The medium spice level was definitely spicy, but not too much. I really enjoyed the Tandoori mixed grill, especially the sausage-like pieces and shrimp. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and had this delicious char on them. Yum. The chicken was tender and moist with that signature bright red color. And there was definitely enough meat to eat for 2 meals, maybe 3 for me. And for $18 downtown, that's a good price. A nice man who appeared to maybe be the owner was chatting with a table of folks when we walked in; we were greeted right away and our food was ready right on time, as we ordered ahead online. They didn't miss anything in our order - it was perfect, hot and fresh. I will say this: their menu is huge, and I've seen some hit or miss reviews. Maybe stick with the basics the first time you go - butter chicken, chicken tikka, biryani, tandoori, etc. Or maybe try one of the dishes that are prepared and waiting, as those are probably the most popular and made most often. I love that they have ready-to-go options for people who don't have a lot of time to grab lunch. As a suggestion for this small downtown location, they may want to consider shortening the menu. I did find it interesting that they had so many goat dishes, and one of the most glowing reviews was about their goat. Since I've never really tried it, maybe I will be adventurous next time. All in all, fair prices downtown with decent portion sizes and excellent samosas, naan and shrimp. We will definitely come back again.

The food was AMAZING!!!!!! The staff were super nice and informative. Will be back again for sure. The owner is really helpful and knowledgeable. He does a great job of explaining planning things so if you haven't had Indian food before it's easy to order here.

The first thing I'll say is that I will come back and give Charminar Biryani House a second chance. The restaurant is very small, and they do have a few tables to dine in. Since there wasn't a lot of space, I opted to take my food back to the office. I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong thing. The flavors of the biryani were traditional, but I don't like that it seems they have hidden all the dry chicken under the rice. There were even pieces I spit out due to it having a warmed-over flavor and being so dry. I am thinking next time I will just try the tikka masala or butter chicken.

They charge $1 more on some items compared to their menu online

I was excited to have an Indian restaurant nearby my workplace, but with many restaurants downtown you pay the high price. I couldn't believe when I picked up my lunch the total was $34.99 (that's including my tip). I could eat lunch at the fancy steakhouse around the corner for cheaper. Also, we realized that some of the items were $1 more than what the price was online so be aware.

Our server was so nice and attentive. She made sure we felt right at home. Food was outstanding and came out timely. The restaurant overall was very pleasant to be in. We will be back for sure!!

House salad... not a drop of dressing. I was offered ranch and ketchup.

The service was not great as it took over an hour for the food to come out (we only had the space for 3hrs) and they didn't even get to bring dessert out because we ran out of time. However, the food I did try (placed on the bar, buffet style) was pretty great, especially the tikka roll-up ie the paneer taco. The roti was perfectly flaky and the paneer with onion was the perfect combo. I had 4 just by myself and they are a decent size. The shrimp manchurian was also very tasty and had a nice kick to it. I also enjoyed the samosa chaat and pani puri. I am not the biggest fan of hakka noodles, but these did have a nice spice to them. The chicken and paneer tikka masala were solid, but I wanted the curry to be a bit thicker/creamier.

I get that I'm older, and probably not the clientele they are looking for, but they have never ever been attentive, even when like yesterday I was the only one sitting at the bar. They genuinely make me feel like they don't want me on there and am more of a nuisance to them. Fooswise, I have can't really say anything great about it. It's pretty basic, you can get better Indian food from so many other places in the metro area. I was hoping that their menu might be more adventurous and interesting but it was pretty run of the mill. It's not bad food by any means, but it's not going to impress you either. As far as their cocktail menu goes, I don't think they have a true cocktail lead, the drinks range from basic and uninspired to kind of gross. Being from Kerala I was interested in the Kerala Mule, and boy did I regret it. Either they don't like South Indians and purposely made it terrible or they need to taste their drinks before putting it on the menu. The more standard drinks were very well made. Aesthetically this is a beautiful spot. They really brought the colors and the design. The DJ stand being an old Indian motorcycle is a great touch. The pool table in the center of the restaurant is lovely as is the colorful umbrellas that adorn the ceiling. Visually an eye catching spectacle that really heightens the experience. At night this turns into more of a club feel, the dark lighting and the DJ can make it a fun night out. Bonus point for having an old Aishwarya Rai movie on the big screen. So while I might not specifically come for the food, I would come and have a more classic cocktail or beer and either start or end my night here, assuming I wasn't ignored the whole time.

It is about more than the flavor which is incredibly layered, but it's so silky and rich that I could probably drink it by the cupful. Yes, I'm talking about food, don't look at me! Let me just eat in peace, with a giant spoon and a bib. I will even use a veil to hide my shame. The service is always friendly and lovely, and I think they might be a little worried when the tall white lady comes in all wild eyed and hungry. The ambiance is fine, as far as I know, my singular mission is to obtain the butter chicken, I am not sure if they have tables and chairs. The menu looks incredible, with recipes that are probably just as delicious as the butter chicken. But here is my problem... if I try another dish that is just as good as the BC, then what do I do?! I will be back here with another confession even more delicious.

Be careful while eating that the seasoning on top doesn't flip up into your eyes, it did that to my husband. He flicked off the seasoning so it wouldn't do it again. The Papadum is good. There was a random empty water bottle at the table. Table top is peeling, needs a refinish. I would put the fly strip in a more discrete spot and not hang it in the vestibule behind the counter. The samosas are good, dough is nice and light, like a wonton and it's packed with potatoes, peas and corn, which is a bit odd. It's better with some chutney. The Gobi Manchurian tastes good, just not crispy at all. The lentil soup is scalding, it's good. I like the roasted garlic in the soup and added some lemon to it as well. The Chana masala is okay, they put potatoes in it as filler instead of more chick peas. Other than the potatoes, it's good. The butter chicken is rather sweet, it's still pretty good.
