I started coming to Charming Nails about five years ago and weird as it sounds, and Boulder can be pretty weird, Charming Nails is why I'm staying in Boulder. Allow me to explain. About five years ago I was staying at the St Julian in Boulder and bumped into Carmen Diaz at the concierge desk. We got to talking like, what are you doing in Boulder and what to do in Boulder and I like to trail run but need a weekly pedicure. So Carmen goes, have you been to Charming Nails, and I'm like what? So she goes on to say that Mira, who runs Charming Nails is like the twin sister of Mira who runs the salon at the Beverly Hills Hotel and it's like the magic place to go in Boulder. Carmen said the hippie vibe is cool in Boulder but when it comes to mani-pedi she has to have a place as clean as the Beverly Hills Hotel and Charming Nails is the ONLY place in Boulder that lives up to that standard. Used to love this place but it turned into a very rushed, rude experience last time I was in. I even have my card filled up for discount on next service but I don't think I'll be back :( I left with bleeding, stinging cuticles last time. It was clear that my service was being rushed so that the lady who pulled up in the Lexus SUV could be attended to quicker ($$$ hoping for a big tip from her, I guess?) This happened awhile ago, but it's still fresh on my mind. That bad. It felt terrible to leave a salon/spa that way. I don't know the lady's name, but I know her car. If I ever go back, I'll make sure it's not there. SO bummed because I loved this place for years!! I might try it again once more since it's been almost a year now, I bet. Nope. At first glance- I stood outside for a minute and was going to walk away and ditch my appointment, but one of the ladies came out and welcomed me in so I thought why not. I was immediately grossed out as It seemed pretty grimy and smelled of old food of some sort. So theres the second time I wanted to walk away. The pedicure was decent, but on each step she only spent about two minutes so the messages were super short. They may as well have not even been included, but I'm sure customers are charged for them. She did a nice job on my toes though- no complaints there. For a mani I just wanted my nails "cleaned up"... so she just starts cutting random chunks of skin off my fingers all willy nilly like and trimmed my nails but did not file them or offer to buff them. Now to when I really started to regret not walking away...The waxing was horrible. She kept applying more wax to previously waxed spots- even after I asked her to "please stop applying more wax!" Needless to say I am burned. As she's doing this wax is going everywhere- on my face, in my hair...finally I got up and told her I was finished with this. She thought I was upset because it hurt and cupped my face with her wax covered hands to tell tell me "beauty is pain." Oh my. I understand that she was just trying to be thorough, but it wasn't about the discomfort, it was about knowing that she was burning me, not listening to me, and the wax in my hair. I was so annoyed that I put my boots on and ruined my nicely done pedi- I just wanted out of there. This is the only place I have EVER been where I have contemplated refusing to pay for services...but of course I didn't so I ended up paying 80$ for a mediocre pedi, burns on my eyebrows, and a head full of wax :/ read more

The workers run around and treat your feet and hands like sliced salami... Shoving it to the side and pushing it down hard if your toes pop us at the wrong moment. They give you this massage, which when they are doing it doesn't really feel good, but after the slapping and punching around of your calf, you feel strangely refreshed and tingly. They even squirt ooze and oil on your feet and then wrap them in hi-tech saran wrap... for that fresh new women feeling. There is never more than two staff members in here and they are usually up to their neck with waiting customers... Which is surprising, since the location is off of Baseline road. The salon is nice and open and the pedi chairs are the big cheesy plastic ones with the not so comfortable metal bowling ball massage chair... You know the one, the one that thrusts you forward when it is doing the roll. This corner business gets loads of natural light and unlike most other Asian nail and pedicure salons, this one does not have an electric sign that has the pretend sound of streaming water.... The salon is clean and they do a great job on your nails and toes for $40... That is the Boulder expensive price. I get in and out and back at work in about an hour... I would stay longer if I could, me want more leg slap. * Fire engine red star one is for handling people's nasty feet all day long ** There you are star two is for an easy to find location with easy and free parking *** Posh star three is for taking American Express even though you have a sign that says that you prefer cash and checks... I love going to Charming Nails....I am always greeted with a friendly hello and get in right away. The place is clean, the nail techs are thorough, the lotions are nice and detergent free and I always walk away with a beautiful manicure and pedicure. If by chance, my nail chips within a week of getting them done, they are always happy to fix it for free. I highly recommend Charming Nails! read more

I have been to this place about three times. First time I went everything seemed to be okay, I got a mani/pedi with shellac for $60.00 which is a pretty good deal around here. They seemed to chat with each other the whole time but I wasn't really worried about it just listened to my music and read a magazine. The second time I came here I decided to bring a coworker, well this time i just got a mani with shellac, everything was fine then at the end she okay you are done, I said okay what about the massage nothing? And she laughed, at that point I was pretty mad because a hand massage is obviously included in a manicure plus I didn't pay $30.00 for them to paint my nails. I started to walk up to pay and then she tried to start massaging my back and hands as I was standing there paying, and I said no thank you, never mind now. Then walked out with my friend, who was sitting right next to me and getting a manicure too and the lady she had gave her a five minute massage. I told myself I would go back there one more time so they could redeem themselves, well all I wanted was a pedicure, and usually I get it with shellac which is $30.00, this time I had some time to kill and decided to get the spa pedicure which is a little bit longer and some more add ons. I figured it would maybe be an extra $15.00 to $20.00 max, when I was done I went to pay and asked how much, she said $70.00, I thought I heard wrong, and I said $70.00? She said yes, so I paid and walked out, and vowed to never spend one penny in there again. That is just disgusting. They totally ripped me off and did it on purpose, they should have told me it would have been $70.00 before doing the pedicure. I don't know anyone who would pay $70.00 for a freakin pedicure. In the end, they will lose out on the money, as I would have been a more loyal customer if treated correctly. I would never recommend Charming Nails to anyone. read more

I went to Charming Nails for a routine mani/pedi. The salon is clean & friendly, has no offensive chemical smells, and is very peaceful. Calm, graceful music plays as you relax. They use hand-crafted skin creams with no chemical additives on hands and feet, and a delightful hand-made sugar scrub on the feet/lower leg, with a terrific foot/calf massage. So relaxing! After my manicure seemed to be dry, I prepared to leave, and realized I had badly messed it up, wrinkling & tearing the polish on 3 or 4 fingers. Very kindly, Mira, the salon owner, offered to re-do the whole manicure - now as a gel manicure (which is harder to damage). I should have asked for a gel manicure in the first place! This was terrific customer service - Charming Nails has won another loyal customer. I highly recommend this salon. read more

Worst nail salon ever. They double booked themselves and instead of actually doing a good job they rushed through my friend's and my nails This is the ugliest and worst manicure I have ever paid for. She charged me $10 for a "design", the jewels on my nail. Paying $44 for this was a complete rip off and when I tipped her she didn't even say thank you. Unbelievable. Worst nail place I've ever been to in boulder by far. Got a gel manicure and the woman barely covered my whole nail, the edges of my nail were not covered by polish. I pointed this out and she painted over it and did the sloppiest job at fixing it. The woman also totally ruined my cuticles and left a bunch of cuts on my cuticle, which hurt so badly. At the end the woman ASKED ME FOR A TIP. I'm sorry, but if I want to tip then I'll tip. But if you do a terrible job, I'm already paying $32 for the worst gel manicure ever. Very thorough, great massage (leg and neck while i was drying). And everyone was really nice. Absolutely horrible experience. To start off, the ladies didn't ackowledge myself or my friend. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for them to reply back to us (we both had said hello a few times). During the pedicure, the lady working on my feet clipped my toenails extremely short and didn't even ask me what shape I wanted my nails to be in. Later on, it would hurt to walk/run because my toenails were incredibly short. Afterwards the pedicure, I went to pay. The price the lady charged me was different from the pricing on the website. Confused, I asked her only to be ignored (again). So, I paid her the amount without a tip (because there was a 6 dollar difference in what was charged versus what the chargewas online). The lady then asked me for a tip, ("A tip for all the hard work I did?") And wouldn't let me leave until I tipped her. Two weeks later, the polish she put on my toenails chipped off completely. The ladies that work here are unprofessional, the service is not up to par (i.e. cutting toenails too short to the point where theres pain whenever I walk/run; not seeing if the client wants their toenails in a certain shape; poor application of polish), and lastly the discrepancy between the amount charged in person versus the amount they said they would charge online. I'm extremely disappointed. Especially with how many good reviews I saw for this place. I hope people look elsewhere for a place to get pedicures/manicures. This place is definitely unprofessional and gives poor service for a disgustingly high price. read more

As a lifelong tomboy and a mom of 2 little kids, this was my first pedicure because someone gave me a gift certificate to come here. I enjoyed the variety of the treatments that they offered in addition to painting my nails. However, though I am a tough woman who gave birth to a 10 pound baby without any painkillers, their cuticle treatments left me wincing and bleeding. I let the woman know that this was my first time and that I needed to go shopping afterwards so the nails needed to be completely dry. She did not seem to know how long that would really take and so even though I stayed about half an hour longer than she recommended, my nails were ruined by putting on shoes. Because it had been a gift certificate, and because she was busy when I left, it slipped my mind to think about giving a tip. She came running after me and informed me that I owed her a tip. I apologized, tipped her 20 percent, and reiterated that this was my first time. She said I should've known better since I'm an American and this is my culture. I left feeling shamed and all I have to show for it are ugly, bleeding toes. Needless to say, I'll be good waiting another 40 years for my next pedicure, and if I do it, it won't be at Charming Nails. As the quote goes, "Charm is deceptive." I am so disappointed in my experience here! As a girl on a budget, I don't get my nails done very often, but I recently had my first gel manicure- not at Charming Nails- and loved the indestructability of it. When I came for my manicure yesterday, not only did they skip doing anything to my cuticles, but the gel peeled off of my nails the NEXT day! (Just from normal wear and tear.) They refused to offer me a refund but they did redo my nails, and the lady who fixed them was very nice. I guess I got confused about when to come in, but she redid them even though she was busy. I'm really bummed. I just left Charming Nails with ridiculously short nails, 7 filed square and 3 rounded, and gel polish all over my cuticles and hands. I'm not sure what this manicurist was thinking, but she tried to give me a shoulder massage with plastic gloves on that had fingernail polish all over them. She told me the polish all over my hands would come off in the shower. Very bad experience. I will not be going back. I can however type really fast with these stubs. read more
