My family and I purchased a NHdailydeals voucher for the lighted Winter Wonderland for $12 per person. We wanted to go on Dec. 17 but when I called the farm to find out how to reserve online, I found out that I had to go to a specific website for that voucher, because there were only a few times/days I could use the voucher (not disclosed upon purchase, by the way). Upon doing so, I discovered that there were no available times at all that day, so reserved the only other time we could go, which was Friday the 23rd at 4:30. So we made the reservation for 4:30 and booked it on over there after work/school on that afternoon to get there on time. We got our "boarding pass" at 4:35 and ambled on down to the boarding area. The "Elf" was trying to build the bonfire, (without much success due to wet wood) and the sound system was all messed up so the Christmas songs being played were only playing one track (like a karaoke track- no voices). Anyway, minor things, those... we stood around with two other families waiting for the 4:30 wagon... finally I asked the "Elf" when the next wagon was and he said, "Uh, we don't start until 6." SIX????? Then why the heck did they have us reserve at 4:30???? He realized our frustration and said he'd mentioned this to the "big man" before, but there was nothing he could do. We were incredulous. It's not like we were boarding a flight to Albuquerque!! We left and got a bite to eat at the KFC.
Upon returning at around 5:35, we went back to the boarding area, where they had indeed started running the wagons, and were now on boarding group 8 (we were group 2) so we got on pretty quickly.
So that whole unpleasantness aside... the actual ride was enjoyable. My favorite part was just riding through the cold dark night and seeing the stars. The light/character displays were ok. DEFINITELY NOT worth the $25 full price. NO WAY. I'd say what we paid- $12- would be acceptable. At the end of the ride (about 20 minutes) they have you get off the wagon to feed the reindeer and meet Frosty, Penguin, Santa, etc. The wagon takes off and you're stranded there until the train/tram comes to bring you back to the start. We tried to feed the reindeer but they just weren't hungry... and there's only so many times you can high-five the penguin... so we started to walk back but another "elf" told us to wait for the tram... so we stood and tried not to think how cold we were. (We'd dressed for 4:30 weather, not 6:20 temps). Finally we were brought back to the beginning and got our included cup of hot chocolate.
My 8-year-old son enjoyed the evening quite a bit despite all the minor/major inconveniences. My 11-year-old didn't say much about it. It's definiltey for younger kids- but 100% NOT WORTH $25 each. And if you reserve online, call to check what time you actually need to REALLY be there! read more
