I was really looking forward to the chicken katsu, but it was a huge disappointment. The chicken was burnt, dry, and clearly overcooked -- not crispy in a good way, just charred. You could taste the bitterness from it being left too long in the fryer. For a dish that's supposed to be juicy and golden, this was the complete opposite. No apology, no offer to remake it, just a shrug like this is normal. If you're charging full price, the food should at least be cooked properly.I won't be coming back, and I definitely wouldn't recommend ordering the katsu here. read more

It was ok - nothing special. My first impression wasn't the best as there was a check-in coupon from yelp, but when I showed the cashier, he told me we stopped that 3 years ago and wouldn't honor it. I told him that I had just hit the button and the promo came up - he still wouldn't honor it. The cashier also had a very hard time understanding anything that we were asking him about the food, so that was disappointing as well. I ordered a steak platter with macaroni salad and double rice and a katsu plate with veggies and rice. The katsu plate had far more food quantity than the steak plate. The rice and mac salad were pretty good, and the chicken was really good with teriyaki sauce on it. However, the short ribs weren't my favorite. They were a bit too chewy, with too much fat, yet not enough flavor. They weren't bad, just not great. That being said, I'd definitely come back for the chicken meal alone. Our entree selections were the Island Grilled Steak plate and Sesame Chicken. There was some homemade kimchi near the register that I tried while we were waiting and it was very mild and tasty. The green salad had a nice sweet dressing which was healthy but the mac salad looked good too. The rice was good when topped with the teriyaki sauce they keep in squeeze bottles by the register. The steak was good but needed a touch of the teriyaki also. The sesame chicken was also good and surprisingly, not super sweet. The portions were large and we had lots of leftovers.
