Words that I've lived by my entire life. But being a Tex-pat here in NoVA has had me exploring...and El Paso has been a restaurant that I keep coming back to. I've never been to this location before, but another app had mentioned that it was 3.4mi from my work, so I figured I'd try it out...I've been having a hankering for enchiladas this week and figured I'd scratch that itch. Since it's Friday, I decided to try the Enchiladas Rancheras, described as 2 cheese enchiladas topped with beef or chicken, served with lettuce, a tomato (not needed, I will omit this next time), sour cream and a side of rice and beans. Sounded perfect! I paired it with a bowl of queso and a water, because I'm still on the clock, otherwise it would have been a cold Modelo or swirl margarita. What was brought out to me was not lunch, but a time machine...taking me back to my college days and a meal that I've been chasing for over 20 years. The beef was stewed and tender, and paired with the cheese enchiladas it reminded me of hitting up Taco Cabana after the bars, ordering a carne guisada and a side of queso, mixing it all up together and diving in with chips. I wasn't planning on inhaling the whole plate (and queso too) but I did and even though I am in gastric pain, I do not regret my decision. Even though I'm sure I looked the fool, I closed my eyes while eating it and I was back there in College Station at 2:30am, listening to Cross Canadian Ragweed and having my whole life ahead of me. The food was THAT good...it actually took me back in time. The service was also excellent and attentive, and I wish I had the bravery to go back into the kitchen and shake everyone's hands. I will be coming back, I will be ordering it again (sans tomato) and I will be putting myself into a food coma once again. If you're looking for delicious Tex Mex food in the area, as a native Texan and a descendent of the Old Three Hundred, I highly recommend El Paso...they're a little bit of home right here in Northern Virginia.

They used to cut them into much smaller pieces. It presented better this way with the larger pieces. Birria tacos were loaded and so was the kids taxi as well. Drinks were tasty and you can take to go if you don't finish. We were seated quickly and received our food pretty quick too. Parking can be a bit tough here if you have a larger suv. The spaces closest to the entrance are better for compact cars.

The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, with plenty of space for our group to gather and celebrate. I ordered the wet burrito carne asada with queso on top. The portion was generous and the presentation inviting, but the burrito wasn't served as hot as I would have preferred. The carne asada leaned a bit overcooked, which took away from the tenderness I was hoping for. That said, the queso added a creamy richness that helped balance things out, and overall the flavors were enjoyable. Service was friendly and attentive, which made coordinating a group meal easy. Prices are fair for the portion sizes, and the restaurant's relaxed vibe made it a comfortable setting for our luncheon. Verdict: While the burrito could have been hotter and the meat more tender, El Paso delivered a satisfying meal and a welcoming environment for our celebration. It's a solid choice for casual group gatherings in Dumfries.
