I'm a longtime summer resident of Larkspur. Heard some rumors that it was horrible, but finally decided to give them a try. Ordered takeout. Tasteless and extremely overpriced food. The worst part was the queso dip. Doesn't even taste like queso. It was like a weird watery soup. Maybe it was soup. We honestly don't know what we paid for. I have idea how they stay in business. Update! Warning!! Just found a sharp chunk of hard plastic in my burrito. Glad I didn't bite down or swallow it. 2 entrees and queso $48 plus a 20% tip. All of it inedible. read more

Food has been good when we have eaten there but the "when" is the problem. Days/hours of operation they post means nothing. Doesn't matter if you try 10am, 2:30pm, 7pm, everyday is crap shoot on if there open and if so how long. I even have been proactive called the day before to confirm as we were going to place large to go order, call next day and no answer, drive by and it's closed as usual. Great find! Thanks to a 45 minute back up on I-25 I stumbled across this diamond in the rough. It's tough for a small diner to make it in a small town. I really hope these little guys can. I live in monument and will be making a point to try and help out this upstart establishment. My whole family enjoyed our meal to go. My wife had the Mexican speciality combo with an awesome chili releno and bean burrito. I had the country fried steak skillet smothered with gravy. Extremely satisfying and large portion! The kids enjoyed grilled cheese and a quesadilla. The French fries and fruit as a side were awesome for the kids. I will be back to explore their vast menu. read more

Very disappointed in this spot and I do not recommend. Our lunch plans suddenly went out the window and we needed a quick stop to grab some food. Went through the drive-thru, ordered a whopping 6 tacos, you read correctly, 6 whole tacos. The lady told me to go park in the lot and they'd bring the food out, "15-20 minutes" she said. "Sounds great, thank you" I respond. After 30 minutes of waiting I pulled back around, noticing no other cars being told to park in the lot as I had. I noticed the cars in front of me in the drive-thru that had pulled up not pulling out to the lot but rather waiting for their food and backing up the line. By the time I finally got back to the window it had been an hour since my order. What does the lady tell me? She tells me nothing. She asks me what my order was again...after an hour of waiting, hungry, after ordering before so many other customers. I drove off, and will never return again. The food here is authentic Mexican and was excellent. Great chips and salsa...you get one basket complementary. I had a tostada and Spanish rice and both tasted fresh and flavorful. Our server was nice and food came out fast. The restaurant itself is small and a little dated but the food is worth it. If we are in the area we would for sure come here again. read more

Went for lunch on friend's recommendation. Guess this guy's not really a friend because it was a horrible experience. The food is below average Mexican. Really really below average. Service was poor. We had to ask for something to dip in our queso, which tasted like melted Velveeta. Didn't come by once to fill our water glasses. Sat for 20 minutes before having to wave someone down for the bill. You would have thought that for $50 for 2 they wouldn't charge for a second basket of chips but they do. Huh? Since when did tortilla chips get so expensive? Very very disappointed. This is the 3rd time here. There's not a lot of choices. I live nearby and the wife or kids went and grabbed some food. Will not happen again. 3 strikes you know. For 15 tacos it was $42 and there was little carne asada and it actually had a bad after taste. The salsa was flavorless as well. My husband and I were craving Mexican food and heard good things about Charito's so.we cruised down to Larkspur. The restaurant is small but clean and decorated fun with colorful Mexican decor. The staff was very attentive and the salsa was good and spicey. We ordered the Chicken Chimichangas and the Combo Fajitas. Both dishes were pretty tasty. The guacamole was fresh and full of flavor and the owner treated us to some delightful sopapillas. It was so nice to eat good non chain restaurant Mexican food! We will definitely be back! read more

Great food! We enjoyed everything we had: gauc, mole enchiladas and tacos al pastor. Well the rice and beans were meh but that's pretty normal. It is odd though that they have a bunch of homemade signs - bathrooms for customers only, only your first basket of chips are free, don't let your kids play with the sugar or we'll charge you. 5 stars are hard to get with amazing authentic Mexican food around here!!! BUT HUGE portions! The fact that I walked in before 10am and they are open gets the 4.5 if it was possible! We've been wanting to try Charitos because it's in the neighborhood and we have few neighborhood dining establishments. We stopped in today for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. There was no strange smell as mentioned in some of the reviews, only the scent of simmering good green chili in the kitchen. The decor is lightly Mexican folk and the restaurant is clean. I wasn't that thrilled with the three tvs blaring while we ate, but I would venture to say that if we'd asked the pleasant family owners to turn them down or off they would have gladly obliged. We were too hungry to worry about it this time. Now to the food. It was good, really good. The menu has lots of interesting options listed from breakfast to dinner food. The chips were fresh and crunchy, the salsa fresh, tasty and perfectly spicy. We shared a chili relleno plate and a tamale plate, both of which were served with tasty and fresh rice and beans. The rellenos were fried perfectly and filled with tasty queso fresco cheese. They were really good. The tamales were stuffed with pork and cheese and were tasty from masa to meat. Perfect. The owners asked us if we'd like to try the sopapillas for dessert! Of course, no Mexican meal is complete without a sopapilla finish. Four perfectly fried little square dough pillows arrived dusted with sugar and cinnamon, and when pressed on the ends slightly opened just enough to drizzle in spoonfuls of tasty Larkspur honey. We are happy we finally stopped into this newly owned restaurant. Previous owners have tried to make it work. I truly hope this wonderful family who love to cook good food make it work this time. Breakfast Burritos to go! We try to time when we leave the house for the weekend to grab these as we head out. Its inexpensive, its quick, and they allow us to call them ahead to get the order in. They are filling and made to order (not pre-rolled) and easily in the top 3 Breakfast Burritos i know of in Denver. Lunch and Dinner is solid, specials are never run of the mill and are unique ingredients not available on the normal menu. Delicious clean-your-plate Mexican food. Where do I start? This place is beautiful, the decor on the walls and friendly atmosphere is truly inviting. My girlfriend and I stopped in after hiking on a mountain just up the road from this restaurant, we were starving. My girlfriend had the huevos con chorizo and I had the steak burrito smothered in green chili, oh boy was that green chile special! This place has turned around for the better, the service was excellent but the food really made the experience worth while, if you are passing by Larkspur this place is definitely a must stop. I had driven by Charito's house multiple times but never stopped by. Recently I decided to give it a try and I am thrilled I did. I thought it would be a fast food Mexican restaurant but it was actually a full blown restaurant. I ordered a Bloody Mary and the chilaquiles. Wow the food was amazing! Stuck in traffic on I-25? Jump off and grab a good Mexican meal. The menu offers many items not seen at the run-of-the-mill American Mexican restaurants. We liked the meals we ordered to varying degrees, but nothing was poor quality. That's probably more of a personal preference problem then a problem with the kitchen. read more

A bit pricy but good food. Went to brunch at 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon. They were pretty busy but we were seated right away and our order was taken quickly. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The food came quickly and was really good. I had the 'Larkspur Breakfast' and was not disappointed. The bill was a little high, $20+ for two of us. As 2 displaced Texans, homesick for real Tex-Mex, we had all but given up. One day after hiking we happened upon Charitos, and can honestly say it is the best restaurant we have found in Colorado. The owner is from Texas and is cooking true Tex-Mex. I judge all Mexican food by their rice & beans, and Charitos' are outstanding. Their homemade pork tamales are fresh, with a perfect ratio of meat to masa. The tacos come soft or crispy, with a variety of meat choices. I chose traditional crispy ground beef tacos that I had been craving. They were delicious!.... piled high with fresh lettuce & tomatoes. We sat on the patio, enjoying the sun, mountains and an ice cold Pacifico. Add their food and great service to that and it just doesn't get any better. read more

Chips and (Spicy) salsa were delivered, & then margaritas. -We asked for water again. They came back for our food order. -We asked for water again. When we got our food they asked if we wanted more margaritas. Two of our orders were incorrect, so 2 of 8 had to wait to eat. -We asked for water again. They FINALLY brought 4 waters (for 8 of us). Then they brought the 2 corrected meals, and... -we asked for 4 more waters. They returned about 10 minutes later to ask if we wanted more margaritas. -We asked for the 4 waters AGAIN. FINALLY everyone at the table received the coveted water supply! Then we ordered 3 small margaritas. The bill was delivered WITH the 3 margaritas, and they charged us for 5 small margaritas! (1st round was correctly billed) The food was good. (Not great) The margaritas seemed like they were a pre-mix, so not great. Margaritas were way too expensive for the quality. We are in Larkspur often, so I'm sure we'll give it 1 more chance. Hopefully it's just a one-time disappointment. read more

Charito's billed my card $4 more than the total after my tip. I have the receipt image and credit card statement as proof. I hoped this was an honest mistake, but the way the owner Francisco shrugged me off and refused to correct the issue makes me think otherwise. I had to dispute it with the credit card company - which sided with me and corrected the false charge. If you eat at Charrito's, I strongly recommend keeping your restaurant receipt and comparing it to your credit card statement. read more
