First time here for brunch. Service was fairly strong, and the coffee was good. Food came out fast, and the order was right, so that's always a plus. My wife and I both had the Sharon omelette. Neither with tomatoes. Mine without sour cream and with the guacamole on the side. Omelettes were big, fluffy, full of toppings, and with good flavor. Neither of us really cared for the home fries. We both felt like they were underdone. Maybe try again or go with hashbrowns or something else. My wife liked her griddle biscuit more than I did. It tasted more like a slider roll that was too dense. I'd likely try the English muffin next time. It's close by, reasonably priced, and the food was strong overall and came out fast. This was a very meh experience today on our first visit. Service was attentive and good. Food took a bit but lunch time on a Sunday is to be expected. Food-wise most stuff tasted pretty good. Got the Rancher and the country fried steak was tasty, bacon excellent as well. The only thing I tried that I didn't like were the pancakes which were overly sweet and vanilla-y, but my kids ordered them and loved them so that's what counts. Prep/cook-wise is where I was left really unimpressed. I ordered gravy on the side, it was not put on the side so that adds a little mush to the steak, and gets mixed in with the eggs and hash browns, all of which are why I order it on the side. Ordered eggs over-medium, they were barely over-easy. I am generally okay with either side of medium, but these were really underdone and the yokes were already broken when I got my plate. Couldn't believe those would be sent out. Hash-browns were also way, way underdone and were slimy. My wife's looked perfectly cooked, so it was just a my plate issue I guess. Biscuits are too thin and overdone, really hard. They are shaped life muffin tops, should be thicker and fluffier. Tasted good though and had a skillet finish type taste on the bottom which I liked. Overall, came in super excited to try the place as I love a good brunch, and left not thrilled with the execution of my food. I wouldn't not come back, but I am also not rushing back. Where to start?!? Everything was INCREDIBLE! Evidently Doug's just opened and it is located in the Tavern. The service was quick even with the restaurant being very full. The atmosphere was a bit odd for a diner as it's in the tavern, but is nice and clean, great TV's for watching sports, etc. The food though... holy COW!!! It was DELICIOUS!!! We both had variations of omelets. We tried both the green and red chili gravy on the omelets. Both flavors were tasty. The green chili is. Touch spicy, but not for this south Texas girl! We are both eating clean currently and I loved the option for a larger or smaller omelet. The tomatoes with pesto were also out of this world delicious and a perfect side option for us! As a proud Texan, I can honestly say I was incredibly impressed by the food here. The Brisket Burger and Tavern Burger were absolutely outstanding, and even the salad exceeded my expectations. Nothing disappointed. I'm so glad we decided to leave our first restaurant choice in Castle Rock and give this place a try. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome. The chef even came out to introduce herself personally, which made the experience even more memorable. My husband and I ate here for the first time today and were very impressed. Opal provided great table-side service and gave solid menu recommendations. Doug's Diner has a wide variety of menu items, and the portions definitely won't disappoint. We ordered two different versions of the Papas ( loaded hash browns ) and were both impressed by the flavor profiles, quality of the meats, and the mix of veggies. Food was good - service was friendly, but a little slow. The hotcakes in the sweet combo were crazy big - seemed more like a waste of food. If you can eat that much pancake, splurge for the "chuck it up" for more blueberries or chocolate chips because you won't find many with the regular amount. read more

Woof, worst breakfast I've had in a while. Service was cold and unfriendly. Took almost 40 minutes to get my meal at the bar. The people next to me got incorrect orders twice. My biscuit and gravy was honestly inedible--the biscuit was hard as a rock and the gravy was completely flavorless....paste. Just gross. It was Father's Day and very busy, which resulted in slow service and long wait times. Scrambled eggs at our table and the table next to us had to be sent back for being undercooked. Bacon was good, pancakes and French toast were average, but good. The place has a nice look, but our table was extremely wobbly. They have a nice patio with trees. Couldn't tell you about the food or service. Never got that far. We had a party of five and were told the wait would be 20 minutes. At the 45-minute mark I asked the host why all these people were being seated ahead of us who came in after us and was told that he was waiting for a table for 5 to open up. I asked him why a chair could not be put at the end of a booth for 4. Voila, 30 seconds later we had a table. The person who was seating us (an owner) made no apology for the wait, bad judgment or lack of communication. I told him that his seating process needed to be reviewed with the host. Instead of being gracious he immediately went on the offensive , then we clapped back and the end result was that we were barred from the restaurant for life! Boo hoo. The food was pretty good, I had the wimpie (smaller version) Taos papas covered in green chile which was tasty and a good size. My dining partner had the full size cowboy with the red chile which was quite large and good. I had the It's a unique menu for breakfast with options you typically don't see. The server told us the red and green chili were mild but they both definitely had a kick and more medium spice level. Great flavor but definitely more spicy than expected. The coffee was weak and could use some improvement. I would come back but the coffee needs some love. read more

Our first visit today-2 of us. Our waitress was very nice. We each ordered the lil hillbilly. My eggs over medium were done perfectly. The biscuit was hard and thick like a hockey puck. The country gravy was pretty good but there was very little of it and even that did not penetrate the biscuit to make it edible. The hash browns were very greasy which normally doesn't bother me but the grease tasted old and slightly rancid. Bacon really really thick and chewy. We each took most of it home and the box for the leftovers was literally a box of very thin cardboard. Not surprisingly the contents soaked through the bottom. Usually it's tough to ruin breakfast food but not in this case. Will not return. (Check was $33.00 plus a $10 tip for the nice waitress).Sorry Doug you have to make some changes! read more

We had high hopes for this place since we really have no breakfast spots in CR and unfortunately it was such a disappointment. The staff was wonderful and our waitress was so sweet but everything else was meh. We got 3 cups of coffee which were lukewarm and had to ask for fresh coffee. The cinnamon rolls were good but unfortunately took a long time to get. We had 2 breakfast burritos and a waffle. The breakfast burritos were also just.. warm. I'm Not sure if they just sat for a while or what but none of our food came out hot. The green chili didn't have much flavor and no spice to it. I liked the thick cut bacon in the burrito but there was barely any egg and it seemed to just filled with hashbrowns. My husband said the waffle had no flavor and wasn't sweet. I didn't look at the time but we waited a very long time for our food. I know it's newer and they probably didn't expect it but there are things that need improvement. I really hope this place improves and works out its kinks because I'm not sure we'd be back. For the 4 of us our bill was $80 plus tip so it wasn't cheap either. read more

We were so happy to have a breakfast/brunch place in the Meadows area. Food was great. I had the French Toast with eggs and bacon (although, it came with 1 slice of bacon and typically I would expect 2 slices) and my husband had the Taos Papas. Both dishes were delicious and looking forward to trying other dishes out in the future. Restaurant was clean and organized. Took off 1 star due to the slow and lack of awareness with customer service. It took about 10 minutes for our server to greet us and get our drink orders. Other servers passed us without any eye contact which I found to be frustrating. I've worked in food service for many years and as a server, I was taught to work as a team. Meaning even if a table was not "yours", you should still fill up waters/coffee/drinks and greet customers. I consistently noticed servers only filling up waters and coffee for their own tables. If you're filling up drinks and you're passing by a table, you might as well fill that table up. The boy that brought our food out was very nice and respectful. He asked if he could get us something else, I asked for a refill of my coffee, he said he would have my server do that. I had finished half of my food by the time she came back to top off my coffee. She was very nice and personable, however, seemed like her area was in the bar and we were a random table easily forgotten that she was responsible for. I had a wimpy carne Asad which is hashbrowns with carne Asad steak on it and green Chile. The meat was so salty I could not eat it. The green chili did not taste like green chili it was a salty mess the eggs on top I ate I ate around the edges where no green chili had gotten to I left 3/4 of the food on the plate. Husband had biscuits gravy with sausage and eggs. The sausage was weird he ate the eggs. Gravy tasted like the can it came in and the biscuit so dry he could not eat it.
