We happened to spot The Chart House while driving from our Airbnb in Tahoe and decided to look it up. The reveiws looked great, so we made an 8:30 reservation for the following evening to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived the front area was packed, probably 20 people waiting for tables, one large group of 11. The two ladies working the front desk were clearly doing their best to keep up, but the restaurant was running behind. We ended up waiting just under 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't a big deal to us because we weren't in a hurry. While we waited, we overheard several guests complaining about the length of their wait. A few became incredibly rude and impatient with the girls at the front, which was uncomfortable to watch. They were doing their best, and we appreciated how they continued to handle the situations professionally. Once we were seated in Frankie's section, everything changed. You could tell she had already had a very long night, but she was still friendly, warm, and incredible attentive. She apologized for not getting to us sooner, although we felt she was great from the moment we sat down. She went above and beyond to make sure my birthday dinner was special. Unfortunately when my steak came out it was drastically undercooked and had to be sent back. She was immediately apologetic and handled it with such kindness and professionalism. She never made us feel like it was an inconvenience. Despite the hectic evening and issues they were dealing with, we ended up having a really wonderful dinner. We actually felt bad watching the desk staff receive so much rudeness from other customers. Sometimes restaurants have an unexpectedly busy night, remember to give a little grace. After searching for a few steakhouses, The Chart House stood out because of its beautiful view and great reviews. We decided it was a must-try and made a reservation through OpenTable for 7:45 PM. We started with the kimchi calamari, followed by the New York strip and the 14 oz. prime rib. When I tell you it's rare for a steakhouse to get both land and sea dishes just right, this place truly knows what they're doing! Everything was cooked perfectly, tender, hot, and full of flavor. Nothing was lacking. The customer service was also wonderful. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and helpful. And, just as the reviews described, the view was absolutely beautiful, especially while watching the sunset. We're already looking forward to coming back to celebrate special occasions. We were only in Tahoe for a couple of days..and before we even arrived my boyfriend said he wanted to take me to Chart House to celebrate my birthday. I'd read the reviews beforehand some were glowing..others not so much but I still wanted to experience the views and the food for ourselves and decide from there. We arrived a little early for our reservation and didn't mind waiting. My boyfriend had specifically requested a window seat so we could enjoy the scenery. After about 10 minutes the hostess came over and said they didn't have a window table available right then..but they did have a booth one seat back from the window. I asked if we could see it first. It wasn't actually near the window..so we politely declined and said we'd keep waiting. She was wonderful about it and more than happy to accommodate us. Another 10 minutes later we were seated at a table right by the window with a beautiful view. I was so glad we held out and didn't settle for the booth. Charlotte was our server. It was very busy..but she tried her best to be attentive..and honestly we didn't mind being left alone with the nice view and conversation with each other. Shout out to Charlotte! She was great! We shared a Cobb salad as an appetizer..and Charlotte happily made a bunch of modifications for us since neither of us likes a lot of different vegetables. For our entrées my boyfriend ordered the steak + lobster tail and I got the Chart House 10 oz prime rib. I told her I wanted my meat rare "if the cow is still mooing..that's fine with me" and she delivered. It was perfectly red and delicious. The mashed potatoes were wonderful too..and the pomegranate mojito was strong but really good. My boyfriend's steak was cooked exactly how he likes it (medium rare) and the lobster tail was excellent..he said it was actually bigger than he expected. Had a reservation here for a party of 12 on a Monday evening for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The place was packed and we were seated about 10-15 minutes after our reservation time. They have plenty of parking in their parking lot. They also provided a while coloring book for each kid with colored pencils. Service: Service was very slow. It took 25-30 minutes after we sat down to get our drinks. My son's kid's meal was supposed to come with milk (which I asked for) and it never came. I had to ask a few times for a refill on my iced tea, which I felt they should have noticed and brought one without asking. Food: Food was very good. They started us with warm, complimentary house bread and butter service. I really enjoyed the kimchi calamari and was pleased it was a large portion. I ordered the Miso black cod for my meal, which flaked easily with a fork and was on top of a bed of Asian style vegetables and broth. The kids menu offered some healthy options as well and I got my son the grilled chicken with vegetable (broccolini). Our large party ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees, and everyone spoke highly of the food. They brought out a red velvet cake dessert for the birthday celebration. Warmly greeted and seated within reason of our reservation time. However, it seems Chart House has continued its downward slide. The meal started out well with a very nice shareable Shrimp, Avocado + Mango Stack. But my starter, the Caesar Salad, was bland and unremarkable. It was more like a prepackaged salad from Costco. It was lacking enough dressing, cheese and any seasoning -- and anchovies would have been nice for the price. My entree was uniquely spicy for salmon and the entire entree on the small side. It was flavorful and cooked to perfection, however. The Mini Lava Cake would have been a nice way to finish to the evening, but by the time was got utensils to eat it, the ice cream was melted on all three and fell off the top of the cake. Annoyingly, someone in our party had to ask for utensils after each course. Perhaps they were overwhelmed with it being Father's Day. Which reminds me, I booked my reservation months ago. Chart House called me a few days prior to advise me that it was a Holiday Menu only, and asked, "Is that okay or would you like to cancel your reservation?" Came here cuz I was looking for a fine dining place hoping to get some high quality food. Thankfully we came during happy hour because if I would have paid full price for most of the items I would have been super pissed. I'll start with the positive the kimchi calamari and the firecracker shrimp were pretty good. The one thing that was fantastic was the king crab. Now for the crap the mussels were over cooked and tasted terrible. And I feel like that's an understatement . The lettuce wrap were seriously underwhelming the chicken was dry and even the sauces weren't that tasty it was just overall very bland. We also order a few drinks I asked for a vodka sprite and lime and whatever they served me had no carbonation in it and almost tasted like just water and vodka. Just an over all not great experience. Chart House in South Lake Tahoe is definitely worth a visit. The view alone makes it a great spot, especially if you can get a table overlooking the lake. I had the coconut shrimp with rice, and it was really good. The customer service was excellent--everyone was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Warm fresh bread arrived, but thats as far as the good portion of our experience went We ordered a bottle of wine and a couple cocktails. It took almost 30 min just to recieve them! In the meantime, we ordered our meals. 38 minutes later our COLD lobster Bisque came out. Im talking straight out of freezer. Normally I dont send food back, but it was like lobster ice cream. My friends clam Chowder was exactly the same. The service was soooooo slow, and when we finally got our meal, (we had to ask for silverware, a bucket for our wine which should have been 1st priority).......disappointed at best. Mashed potatoes were excellent. The steak (i asked for medium) came rock hard. The seabass always sorely overcooked, my Husband had to chew it vs the soft flaky nature it should be. The score is low due to our initial interaction when we walked into the restaurant, the unwelcoming tone of one of the hostesses, and the lack of flavor for the prime ribs. Food 3/5: The Caesar salad was delish and it came in a cheese bowl which was cool. The brown and white bread that they bring complimentary was warm and tasty. The steak was cooked well, but honestly lacked flavor. We ended up adding salt and pepper to taste. But, the horseradish concoction was a nice addition. For the price, it was underwhelming. It's crazy to see that (at the time of this review) this place only has a 3.9 star rating. By far, some of the best NY Strip and Prime Rib I have ever had. The blue cheese butter is a must! The swordfish and calamari were delicious as well. And the chocolate lava cake.... I'd order 3 more if my body could handle it (also it takes a while for preparation, so make sure to order early.) Serving sizes are huge and great to share with parties of 5. Customer service is amazing too. David is a very friendly and fun employee. Thanks for dealing with our shenanigans and obnoxious jokes haha. Also if you're lucky to have a table right by the windows, the sight is beautiful as well, especially during sunset. A restaurant this expensive with a 3.9 rating is concerning but after eating here, I can say we definitely didn't even experience 3.0 quality. I will say the view is very nice, but the photos were definitely taken before some of the trees grew in because it is mostly obstructed. That being said still beautiful. The restaurant itself seems nice. We were a group of six and our table had pop-up wings that were crooked leading to drinks being spilled and other shenanigans. Waitress was a very interesting person, a highlight being when she took our drinks for almost 15 minutes to refill them (Shirley Temple and Dr Pepper). As far as food goes our appetizer, some sort of tasting platter was very good, one in our group ordered salmon also good. Everyone else's food extremely disappointing. We added the Baja shrimp to two of our steaks, and they popped it on top of it to cover the fact that it was a terrible sear. The steaks were probably a five or six out of 10. But for the price you're paying, it should definitely be more than that. I believe the ahi was $48 on menu and it is the photo shown above, quite literally the worst thing I've ever eaten. our waitress recommended switching the furikake rice to the mango sticky rice, which I did, and then when my food was brought out to me first off that was the presentation I got. Second, they didn't include the bok choy. Which is listed on the menu. We asked our waitress about it and she said oh don't worry the bok choy is disgusting. You're not missing anything. By the way, that is exactly what she said.. later that night, one of the people in our party got extremely sick with food poisoning we believe that it may have been the Baja shrimp. eat here with caution know what you're getting into. This was a rare opportunity for me to sneak away after getting off work a little early. So when I did some research, chart house was the first restaurant that popped up. From start to finish everything was great, my halibut was cooked very well, buttery and delicious. The sweet corn purée and succotash were a good complement, the oysters were nice and sweet, fresh. The Baja shrimp was tasty as well. I will be back for sure as the menu really spoke to me, with other fish offerings I want to dive in to. I guess my only adverse thought would be that I would have loved to have sautéed heirloom cherry tomatoes instead of sliced 5x6 tomatoes. Brie, my server was on point, answered all my questions and took good care of my dining experience. The view? Well how could you not like a a view of Lake Tahoe as a bright red sunset, bathed the mountains with reflection on the waters so regal and colorful. Parking can get tough on busy nights. We grabbed a spot in the lower lot. Happily we had a reservation. Wait staff was efficient and friendly. We had the halibut which received rave reviews. Two in our party had the filet mignon. I sampled a taste and the meat was perfectly cooked. I had the lamb chops which were ample and delicious. Was hoping for a lake view as requested. Unfortunately with the rush of patrons we ended up in a tucked away alcove. Delicious happy hour is served only in the bar area. DISAPPOINTED! We arrived for our reservation of two 15 minutes early and were told upon checking in that they were running about 10 minutes late. Not a problem for us, we will sit at the bar, but were then told the bar was full. Not a problem again, we are patient. We visited with people in the entrance area and it was great people watching! A woman came in with the same reservation time for two as us and apologized that they were a bit late and her husband would be in as soon as he parked their car. They also told her there was a delay so it was ok. We proceeded to watch as tables of nine, tables of four, and tables of five were seated. A party of four came in and asked if they could sit at the bar and they were immediately taken back. A single came in and asked to sit at the bar and she was seated as well. I continued to watch the other couple that came in after us question the host and even get upset until there was just our two parties waiting in the lobby. Guess who got seated first...the angry couple and not the patient one. After waiting for 35 minutes, I told the hostess to cancel our reservation and stated the facts of what had just happened. She did apologize and said she had told the other hostess that we were next, but apparently it didn't matter. DISAPPOINTED! We had an excellent experience. Everything was great - one of the best meals I have ever had. Very good service. We did the $61 special with starter, entree, and mini lava cake. Seriously the best chopped salad I have ever had and it was huge. I had bronzed salmon which was delicious. My husband had the sirloin. We are Landry members which pays for itself with one visit. We get $25 gift cards after every 250 points and for your birthday. They also take special care of you and the manager always comes over to introduce themselves. I highly recommend this restaurant and joining the Landry club - it includes around 20 different restaurants. I am bummed that there is not a Chart House in Dallas where we live. read more

I was a bit concerned with some of the reviews, but after our dining experience, Id definitely return and recommend to friends and family. Our server Megan was the sweetest, kindest most attentive staff member and really helped make our evening special. The front of house staff a young woman with dark hair was very welcoming and the view of the lake was phenomenal. My boyfriend got the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and I got the chicken sous vide with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus, we also opted to start off with coconut shrimp and lobster bisque. Our table was very crammed and not sturdy as the extension pieces on the top were loose. The ambiance is cute, dress up or down and I'm sure it's a lovely view when it's still light out. We're traveling with two little ones (1.5 and 4.5 years old) and two grandparents, and tonight was our last dinner before heading back to the Bay Area tomorrow. We decided pretty last minute to celebrate our trip here. I was worried we wouldn't be able to get a table on short notice, but I called twice to explain our situation, and both ladies I spoke with on the phone were incredibly nice. They managed to get us a reservation around 7pm, and when we arrived, they actually seated us at a window table for around 7:35 -- right overlooking Lake Tahoe (trees have grown taller so some of the view has been obstructed a bit, but still good views), where we got to watch the sunset go down behind the mountains. Such a beautiful view. As the sun got lower and the light got a bit too glaring, our waitress even came by and thoughtfully raised the curtains a bit for each of us so it wasn't so harsh on our eyes -- such a small but lovely touch. Food was fantastic across the board: * Fried calamari -- biggest portion I've ever seen, and it tasted great too. Our 1.5-year-old kept trying to share it with the grandma sitting at the table behind us, and we eventually had to ask our server to take the plate away, otherwise he would've kept eating every last crumb off it * 18oz ribeye -- so juicy and delicious, we shared it at the table, and even our older son, who's usually not a big meat eater, kept going back for more * Miso sake glazed cod -- tender with great flavor * Salmon topped with crab -- generous portion, super fresh * Herb roasted chicken -- a hit with both the grandparents and the kids * Chocolate lava cake -- hands down the best I've ever had Both the hostess and our server were professional and so warm throughout the whole meal. Dining out with young kids and grandparents can get chaotic, but they made the entire evening feel relaxed and easy. However, I thought the food was just so-so, nothing really stood out to me about the flavors in the dishes. They were decent, but not good enough to justify the price point to be honest.
