This past weekend we were in Lake Tahoe for a fundraising event and wanted to try a new restaurant, so we went to Saltgrass. All things considered, we had a good experience, and we'd likely return next time we visit the area. The positive? The food was excellent. The negative? The hostesses and the waiter. My wife had the Salmon Oscar and simply loved it. She got the broccoli as a side, and it was a plentiful helping. She also said the broccoli was fresh and nicely cooked. I had the pairing of the NY and grilled shrimp, with a baked potato as a side. The steak was cooked perfectly. The shrimp were a bit small, but the lemon butter was a nice pairing. It's hard to mess up a baked potato, but I've seen it done. This one was perfect and had just the right amount of butter. For dessert, we shared the carrot cake...boy, was this good! We were sorry we didn't order two. We would return for the carrot cake alone. It was very moist, and the frosting was just the right amount of sweet. We loved it! When we arrived, there was a gaggle of folks at the hostess stand. Not one greeted us warmly, nor were we told to enjoy our meal. We had added a "special occasion" during the booking. No one at the restaurant ever mentioned it. It was extremely disappointing! The waitress was tepid. She would warm up at times, but it was definitely not our best experience. Group of colleagues and I were craving a good steak after a long night in Tahoe. Stumbled upon this place and I'm glad I did. The service was excellent and took care of me and my colleagues. I ordered the ribeye steak and it was cooked very well. Probably one of the best steaks I've had in awhile. I definitely will be back when I'm back in Tahoe for the weekend. Bad tasting ribs Walked in from the casino and greeted right away. Interesting seating sections that are very comfortable. I got a booth for just me. Order a beer and looked over the menu. Lots of great choices of barbecue including 3 or more beef steaks, chicken, and ribs. I picked the ribs because the description sounded tasty. Great service from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, polite, professional and very helpful especially with an issue. Ok, ok, ok.... I know there are a thousand ways to prepare ribs. I really didn't like the way they made these ribs. I was really happy when they carried them over, nice huge plate with large amount of steamed broccoli, I'm impressed. Nibble a few of the broccoli down to start my engines. Then stared at the two half racks of plump ribs. They spread some bbq sauce on them, my fault, I like my dry with an original "homemade" sauce on the side, but I did not ask them for no sauce or on the side. I scraped the sauce off the first rib. Then pulled on the bone. It fell off perfectly. Nice big chunk of rib meat on the plate. Wow, I'm really disappointed. I cut a bite size with my fork. I put it in my mouth and.....sugary barbecue sauce. The meat had no flavor, no rub spices, no fire kissed burnt ends ( best part). Just overpowering sugar bbq sauce and plane boiled ribs. I don't know how they make their ribs, but the ribs had no flavor except the sauce. This ribs need to see more flames. They are a corporate restaurant that may have everything controlled. Or not? I don't know. The waiter walked by and asked how was everything. I had to tell him I was excited until I tasted them. He pulled the plate and offered to substitute the dish with something else. Very professional. I decided that this was not the way I like bbq and did not order anything else. Truth is I distrust the chef to prepare anything else as he seams to be just following corporate recipes. The waiter advised the manager and she came over. I asked her to sit so we can have a conversation. I also told her I was going to write this review. This gives her a heads up to write something too. Very good manager. This steakhouse is conveniently located amongst the casinos in South Lake Tahoe, and is inside the Golden Nugget. I tried it twice, but I have been far from impressed. I wonder to myself how a steakhouse can serve non steakhouse quality. I ordered the center cut filet which is always tender. Mine was not such. I didn't complain but I probably should have. So, I gave them a try the next day and ordered the avocado toast, this is when I knew that they have no clue. Staff are nice but not too attentive. If you are in the Lake Tahoe area, Saltgrass by far is the best/most reasonable steak house around. Located inside the HardRock Cafe Casino, I thought it would be okay. Food was great, steak was prepared just right. Service was good, our server was back to check in multiple time and the prices were fair. Came out to be about $70 each person, with drinks included with an appetizer and a solid steak for each. For dinner, we dined here since it's convenient and just in the hotel. I opted for the salmon oscar so i could share it with my toddler. It's lump crab meat with fried asparagus. We both enjoyed it. I also tried my husband's Pat's ribeye and it was really good. Our server, Zack was amazing. He kept checking in on us and made sure we were well taken care of. As for the ambiance, it was slightly dark inside so it gives off a cozy vibe. This is inside the golden nugget hotel so we stopped here for dinner after a long day of skiing. The service was great, but the food was very salty. The portions were also huge so I couldn't finish haha. That salmon filet has gotta be the largest I've ever eaten. The fried asparagus was also very crispy and the perfect pairing with the fatty salmon. I also had their complimentary bread which was very delicious with the whipped butter. Their Paloma was also quite good although more on the bitter side of things. I tried the grand sangria and it was much sweeter and tastier. The prices were pretty high. The entrees all cost like 40-60 dollars. Our dinner at Riva Grill later cost about the same but the portion sizes were even larger. read more

They started off with some complimentary bread for the table, which is always appreciated by us two. My gf and I were so happy to see the fried pickles on the menu,so we got them and they were fantastic. We ordered a ribeye steak to share and it came out to a perfect medium! With the price of beef going up, it's understandable why it was a little pricey. Definitely something I would order, once in a while. Don't waste your time going to the more expensive steak houses in South Lake! Boyfriend and I came here twice in one weekend during our trip. It's great!!!! They start you out with a roll of bread. We got the loaded fries to start, and the baked potato soup. The soup was delicious! For entrees, we got a Texas T-bone and a bone in ribeye. We also got a side of loaded mashed potatoes. They had cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits. Also ordered a side of broccoli. The steaks were topped with garlic butter. I wish the loaded potatoes were a bit hotter and my steak was medium rare (I asked for medium, better under cooked than over cooked!). Minor complaints. The second time we came back we decided to get a country fried steak. Might be better than the Texas T bone, for me! Our service was great. Recommended a good red wine for me. Excellent steakhouse that serves great food but is more affordable and doesn't leave your wallet hurting than most higher end steakhouses today. They also validate parking at the Golden Nugget which helps. Everything was well seasoned, cooked perfectly to order, and the service was above and beyond. We were given the option to outdoors which we accepted to get some fresh air. The outdoor seating faces the street and casino entrance, and there's fire pits outside to help stay warm. We were looking for a convenient breakfast spot and decided to try this restaurant since it's located in our hotel- the Golden Nugget. The space itself is nice with plenty of seating, so we were surprised by the wait--especially since it wasn't very busy at the time. The menu offers a solid variety of classic breakfast and comfort food options. We ordered the pancakes and eggs platter with bacon, which came with a side of biscuits and country potatoes. Unfortunately, the food was just average. For the price, I expected more in terms of flavor and portion size. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but I don't see myself coming back--at least not for breakfast. Came here on a Sunday night and was told 15 minute wait. They took our number and we walked around the casino. After 15 minutes passed, we went back to see if they were ready and they were seating people who came after us...and we never got a call or text...ok. They put us in a nice booth where we sat for at least 10 minutes until they brought water. Our waiter looked less than interested in his job...almost like we were an inconvenience... ok. Hub ordered the chicken breast meal that comes with one side for 25.49 and I ordered the 8 ounce sirloin for 28.99. No bread came to the table...this is a first from any Saltgrass I have been to before, but figured it is just another cut due to inflation. We both got our dinners and they were small for this price point...at least we did not arrive too hungry. As we started eating the waiter explained to the table behind me that you have to request bread to get it. This is mentioned nowhere on the menu and was not briefed by our waiter....I find this to be very poor business practice! The two stars are for the food. The food was quite good...but WAY too expensive.....go to the Lucky Beaver and get a lot more. the waiter did a "how is everything?"question without even stopping at the table...a total drive by....only interested in the bigger table of people behind us. Food was fair!!! Both my guest and I had steak dinners . She had a rib eye steak with mashed potatoes and a green salad . I had a New York strip steak .. Lil overly cooked for " Medium ".and I had what seemingly appeared to be the bottom of the barrel baked potato that was super dry and served room temperature. The waitress and hosts were all nice and professionally adequate , attentive, friendly and polite . My overall experience was expected as the establishment closed at 10pm though we arrived 30 mins before there closing ... Krug chardonnay. The restaurant has a well curated selection of good wines at decent prices. It doesn't feel off putting. It's hard to imagine a bad glass from this list. We ordered the mushrooms as an appetizer, and I totally forgot to take a photo. We received a HUGE portion of battered and fried mushrooms which were delicious!! Wow is all I have to say. If you like fried mushrooms, these are a must. After that, we decided to split a smaller entree. We chose the chicken tenders. These seemed hand battered and had good flavor. I especially loved the honey mustard dipping sauce. This dish came with one side and I let hubs choose. Unbelievably, it was broccoli. (I guess even he thinks a green thing is good sometimes) The broccoli was steamed perfectly... Crisp/tender. Our server was great and the kitchen staff stopped by to ask about food quality as well. This was probably my favorite restaurant I had the pleasure of visiting during my trip to South Lake Tahoe. To start, the staff was awesome. The manager Shawn took care of us and brought out our food to the patio even when the patio was closed. Out of all the steaks I have had not only in Vegas but going out in general the 16oz Pats Ribeye is a clear cut winner. We have stayed at the Golden Nugget almost every time we have been to Vegas and just started going to this restaurant the last few times. It's fun traveling around Vegas and trying new spots, but for the flavor and even the cost you can't beat it. We were in Vegas for a mere 3 days and went here twice! I will say there were big differences in just the days we went(Saturday night and Sunday afternoon). The service was fantastic both days, in which we usually opt to sit at the bar. Saturday night definitely had the A-team in the back cooking. The ribeye was downright mouthwatering and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Both my wife and I had the same thing and needless to say zero complaints about food, service or anything. Now mind you it doesn't have the feel of a separated restaurant as when you are in the casino you are literally walking by and looking at people eating as you walk by, but that doesn't bother me at all. Now Sunday was the same but different. Both the steaks had incredible flavor, but I opted for the smothered filet. It was cooked great, it just was not as good as the ribeye(and I'm usually partial to filets). My wife ordered the exact same thing as the day before and her steak had flavor but was a little over cooked. The meat was tougher and there was much more fat on the meat(which this time around we could not eat like the day prior and was tough. The shrimp also were overcooked significantly. Long story short different cooks make a huge different. The saving grace for Sunday is that at least my filet was cooked properly but not nearly as good as the Saturday ribeye so my wife and I could at least share that. We did not complain, there was no point. We still do look forward to the next time there as both my wife and I dream about that steak. No need to spend hundreds of dollars at an upscale steakhouse. Terrible experience overall. Came on a weekend with a party of 5 and were quoted 1 hour 30 minutes, but didn't get seated until almost 2 hours later. Even worse, there were plenty of open tables, and we easily could've been seated at one table or split into two. The whole seating process felt inefficient. We didn't get our food until around 9:30 PM, basically right after a large party near us finished and left. To top it off, prime rib is advertised for Friday and Saturday, yet it was mentioned that it was already sold out on Thursday. That's just misleading. I ordered the bone-in ribeye ($59.99) with loaded mashed potatoes ($1.99) and sautéed mushrooms ($8.99). It was... mid. Steak was cooked well, but just salty. The loaded mashed wasn't hot. Definitely not worth the price, and nowhere near good enough to justify the wait or the chaos. The only bright spot was our server Marina, who was genuinely kind and did her best despite what felt like a poorly run night. Won't be coming back. read more

Visiting friends in Carson City, and we decided to dine at Saltgrass Steak House. The restaurant is right next to the Golden Nugget casino. Now I begrudgingly accepted this invite as my last experience with Saltgrass in Round rock, Texas, was not good. We joined with high hopes it would be better and we were not disappointed. Our server, Kelly treated us with the enthusiasm of a sophomore out on spring break. She offered meal recommendations, appetizers and refreshments. She even suggested sharing some of the bigger steaks between the couples. There were six of us, so our orders checked all the boxes. Ribeye steaks, boneless and bone in, burgers, and fish. All of the meals were prepared to perfection. I'm really glad I gave Saltgrass a second chance. On Friday, there was live music on the outside patio. It was nice. If you do have the opportunity to dine here, make sure you get your parking validated. Casino parking ain't cheap. If you need ADA parking, inquire with the valets. We made reservations for 5 PM on a Saturday. When we arrived we were seated promptly at table 16. I know this because my birthday is 7/16 and I thought it was karma that we got that specific table. We sat and waited while several servers passed us and said someone will be right with you. Well we sat there and sat there and finally Ruben stopped and said he could take our order even though it wasn't his table. I ordered a San Pellegrino but Ruben said they had been out of it for some time. What??? We both ordered salads, the Hill Country salad with fried chicken was very good and my Steak Wedge salad was delicious. Ruben did ask if we wanted bread, apparently you have to ask for it, and we liked the bread a lot. The portions were large but our experience was mediocre. All I have to say is SHEESH. Our meal here was amazing. I've been to the one in Texas and wasn't impressed but we came in here after gambling the other night and haven't shut up about this meal. I'm a vegetarian and can't wait to come back. We ordered a few things (see photos) and every single item was delicious. The fried pickles were amazing, my partner doesn't even like pickles and he loved these. Ranch here is bomb too. We had Ruben and he provided excellent service, the hostess was also friendly. Ate here recently. I had the steak and eggs with fries which was good. My wife had the Cobb salad which was great. The soup was not good. This is the only place in Tahoe that I found that serves Dos XX lager. Terry was our server. He was working by himself and running all over the place to take care of customers. Great guy. Eventually more employees showed up and helped Terry. They have several options on the menu. They serve breakfast till 2pm if I recall. I would eat here again if I was staying at the Golden Nugget or Ballys due to proximity. read more

My first time at Saltgrass and my wife andI enjoyed our meal. The bread was pretty good, looks like a hamburger bun, a hearty wheat bread that was pretty tasty but i'd prefer sourdough any day . Pork ribs were on special and recommended by the waiter, meat fell off the bone , tasty BBQ sauce!! I ate the whole rack and would definitely recommend. Maybe just a little well done but the crispy edges were good. My wife had the Hill country salad and it was a pretty good salad. Egg and bacon bits were tasty kinda like a cobb salad. Chicken tenders on top were meh , not bad but not great. Salad dressing was very good, a homemade ranch with dill added to it was very bright and flavorful. Deeply disappointed in the service. This post was NOT busy. Maybe 10 tables and I saw at least 4 servers, except ours the entire time. Asked 3 times for a straw. A straw! Server brought salads and disappeared until right before they brought our food which was cold. I can understand maybe a bad day but they knew to be extra kind dropping off that dinner bill. The person who picked up our plates actually got us the extra items we needed. I felt bad for leaving a 15% tip but service ruined our cold meal. Small salad. So why advertise it all weekend? Classic bait-and-switch. Get people through the door with prime rib, then conveniently push them toward more expensive steak cuts once they're already stuck waiting. What kind of nonsense is that? If you're out, say you're out. Don't waste people's time, hunger, and patience just to upsell them. Between the ridiculous wait and the misleading menu, this place managed to turn what should've been a good dinner into a frustrating experience. Won't be back. read more

Ugh...South Lake Tahoe... Unfortunately in this post Covid world we live in it's hard to find people who actually want to work. Our experience at the Saltgrass was no exception. We got seated right away by a hostess who was fine. Not friendly, just fine. Then we proceeded to wait a good 15 minutes without anyone even looking our way. There were three other tables who got seated after us and got waited on within minutes. We ended up leaving which was unfortunate because we love the food at the Saltgrass.
