Yesterday, I walked into the San Bruno, CA Chase branch to request a name change service for my account. One of the check-in staff informed me that they were busy, no banker was available, and I would need to make an appointment. I scheduled an appointment via the Chase app and returned to the branch today. Despite having an appointment, I waited approximately 20 minutes before someone from the teller window told me to wait another 20 minutes. Later, another teller approached me and informed me that I would need to call Chase to complete the name change on my account. This entire process clearly shows a lack of communication and understanding of procedures by the branch staff. The customer service I experienced was extremely poor, and I will not be recommending this Chase branch in San Bruno, CA. **update** I am writing to commend Amy F. Beware of depositing checks in the ATM machines here. These machines can not recognize the account numbers on checks, which causes the checks to bounce. It's happened to me a couple of times and to other people I know. The machines here are always "down" and being repaired--so that tells you something. Always bring checks to a "human" at the counter for deposit. read more

I don't go into banks often, but this is my branch. I'd agree that one must bring their patience when going inside. The staffing seems a bit light most days and that is evident on Fridays (which I assume if pay day for most folks). But the tellers are helpful and friendly and I have never experienced an unprofessional behavior. I've had to make large cash deposits & withdrawals, foreign currency exchanges and order new ATM cards. All of which were processed to my satisfaction, even during these times. I do not like to write a negative review, however I would like to share the unpleasant experience and hope similar instance will not be happened again to other customers. We went to the bank around noon time on Saturday, September 14, 2024 asking the teller we needed to "Access" our safe deposit boxes. The teller told us to sign the access form as required to access the safe deposit boxes. There was a plastic divider between the teller and us due to the COVID precaustion. The teller never have explain the form to us and just told my wife to sign it. My wife have high eye prescription (over 1000 degree) and I also have reading problem and failure for my first DMV visual test for driver license renewal. My wife and I have been Chase Bank customers over 40 years and no reason to question the bank procedure and we trusted the bank. My wife signed the form which we assumed was the safe deposit boxes Access Form. The teller brought us to the safe deposit box vault even though I did not sign the form . In the past they will required both my wife and my signature or PIN number. Once the teller opened our safe deposit boxes (2) he did not return my box keys to us immediately as usual and just put them on the desk near the safe vault entrance. It was very strange. When we finished put our stuffs onto the boxes we ran the bell and another teller came over and helped us put the boxes to our safe deposit boxes slots. When we returned home and saw there was a miss call on our home phone from Chase Bank. We called Chase Bank back but it was already close since it opened only half day (Saturday). We called back on Monday September 16 and the person answered the phone told us the teller misinterpreted our need and alerted the system to close our two safe deposit boxes and the teller claimed we said Yes. This is a false statement and we never said "Yes" and never said "Close" and we only said "Access". The person who answered the phone told us they had already figured out that we did not ask to close the boxes and they will voided the transaction. She told us everything will be fine and back to normal. On Tuesday September 18 we had a miss call from Chase Bank again and we called back immediately and could not get through. We were very concern so we went back to the branch in person, and the teller who worked with our safe boxes access request came out and said he was working with the back office and taking care the problem. He told us do not worry and everything would be fine. We told him we were traveling to Foreign countries and would have phone connection problem and would have difficult to receive phone call and hoped we could have email connection. He said he could email us when he fixed the problem. A few days later we received an email from the branch assistant manger told us the safe deposit boxes we have had been closed and could not be reopen. We were in shock because we never ask them to close them and the teller misinterpreted our request. We sent our appeal to the assistant manger and told her we did not agree with their decision and asked them to keep our safe deposit boxes open. several days later we received an email from the branch management stated that the assistant manager has brought this case to her and she planed to submit our appeal to the executive and asked us when we will be returned from foreign travel because she wanted the group could listen to our statement. When she learned that we would be back in mid October she said she would set up the meeting in the first week of December and would email us so we could be here to talked to the people from the Complaint Group. When we returned home from foreign travel we saw 2 missed calls which were late September and early October on our home phone from the Branch Complaint Escalation Group. We called back and the person on the other end appeared not interested to talk to us and who has already made up her mind. She said my wife had already signed the close form. The teller told us to sign the form to access the boxes. We believe teller did not fully understand the access procedure and gave us the wrong form to sign. If we knew this was a form for closure we never would sign it. She told us if we did not empty the boxes they would turn the stuffs in the boxes to the State as unclaimed stuffs. There was a miscommunication among the Branch and the Branch Complaint Escalation Group and us. How could the planned meeting in December became people called us early when we were still on foreign travel. In short, We feel the whole instance is very unfortunate, The teller never take the responsibility and gave false statement, the management there do not even feel sorry. We also have made a mistake by trusting the bank without asking the teller to explain what is the purpose of the form and signed it. We have learned from this instance and will never sign any paper without full understand what is the purpose of the form. read more

Of the last 4 times, the bank ATMs has had "technical problems". Lines of drive-up bank clients waiting just to be told both machines are not working. Highly inconvenient and unreliable. We seem to stop at this location on our way up the peninsula frequently and really love how many ATMs they have! The service was quite good my last visit and the honey loved that they were fully stocked with the dum dum lollies he goes crazy for. Our visit was super simple, drop in, deposit check, and out. This is one of the banks to go to when you are in Tanforan. I like the fact that this branch has a private parking lot, 4 ATM's -- 2 of them are drive-ups and 2 of them are behind close doors. Today is my first time coming in here today, staff members here are polite, friendly and professional. Some of the services and products are similar to most of the JP Morgan Chase Bank branches I've been to. The amenities here pretty much no different from other branches I've been to. This bank is close to Tanforan Shopping Center and a lot of other nearby businesses. There are several branches I've been to where the it is street parking or garage parking at a nearby public garage. However, this one has their own parking lot for its customers! The private parking lot with the drive-up and indoor ATM's are one of the amenities that scored bonus points for this branch. Additionally, this is one of the JP Morgan Chase Banks with ATM's behind closed doors and this is another one of the amenities that is a plus as well. ATM's are located behind close doors? This feature really makes all of those random late night trips to the ATM much safer! Some businesses operate via a cash only accrual basis. Having a bank here is of major convenience. read more

My father had gone into this location and was sitting waiting for assistance but had been skipped, so when I had arrived, I was told that they will be closing (15 minutes left) and no longer accepting "walk in" even tho my father had been waiting all along and those who came in after he did would be helped. On May 9, 2017, I went into the San Bruno, Chase branch at approximately 4:45pm and waited until 5:25pm, before asking to see the bank manager. Charles, the personal banker who had assisted (if I can even call it that) me the day before, had not come out to even apologize that he had me waiting there so long. The branch manager came over to ask if she could do anything for me, and I explained that I was there waiting for Charles to follow up with him, since I had seen him yesterday, but that I'd appreciate it if she would help me. I briefly explained to her why I was there. She told me that in that case, I'd have to wait for Charles. I informed her that it had been almost been 45 minutes since I'd arrived, and signed their log. I informed her that Charles had not even come out to let me know why he was detained. She said she was going to go check and be right back. After a couple of minutes, she came back and told me it would be a few more minutes for Charles to see me. I patiently waited, however after15 more minutes went by, and neither Charles nor the manager (she never gave me her name), came out to see me, I left the bank at approximately 5:45pm. The excessive wait time, and disregard to my bank needs was unacceptable. I can see now why the reviews on this particular branch are horrible, and rightly justified. This place is great! They have ATMs, and plenty of tellers to help you with your transactions. They keep your money for you and let you have access to it when you need it! It's awesome. If you visit the tellers they will even give you your money in whatever denomination you prefer (quarters, dimes etc.). They recently used money to make customers feel better about the parking lot by updating the landscaping. How nice ;) They have ATMs inside the building and for driving through. The parking lot is large and serves only the bank so there is plenty of parking. ATMs are rarely down and are secure afterhours (access is restricted to card holders), which is actually really nice. read more
