Filth in the room they tried to put me in after four days without a room in Hawaii

65 year old deaf woman left stranded in Maui when Chase 'n Rainbows forgot that they did not own the unit she had reserved. They accepted my final payment in December for a reservation that was made a year ago. A few days before my arrival I received the instructions on how to get into the unit with a code at the resort in Maui. Upon arrival we found that the room was under construction with a red X in tape across the door stating "do not enter ". After about an hour of trying to get a hold of someone at the company, we found a person who could not make decisions to talk to. At first they denied I had a reservation until my sister told them that we had the American Express ledger and the confirmation with the key information sent from them a few days earlier. Bottom line, although they said the right words, "too bad, so sad" If my family had not also been in Hawaii with a suite, I would've been on the next flight home instead of a 3 1/2 week stay on Maui. I had booked with this company many times but I did not realize it had been sold. Lots of words and no actions on the part of the company. I even contacted the CEO of their parent company, Castle Resorts, who couldn't even bother to have anyone return a call or email. On the fourth day they found a place for me but it did not have air-conditioning in the bedrooms, there was insulation falling out of the ceiling, there were bugs on the wall, on top of the appliances and in the sliding door track, no security lock on the door, or smoke detector in the bedroom area. My family came to see it and they would not allow me to stay there, not for one night. On the fifth day I contacted the father of the previous owner of Chase'n Rainbows. Although his family members that owned it had passed away, it had been sold and the new owners were the ones that were negligent. This 85-year-old man contacted the general manager at the oceanfront resort. THEY got me a studio for the rest of my stay. It was supposed to be a one bedroom so my family members could stay part of the time with me since I am deaf but in February, there are no vacancies. There were all kinds of promises, all kinds of false words of empathy, but no actions on the part of Chase'n Rainbows. I was appalled at their attitude, their false statements, and the fact that they had actually accepted money for a unit they no longer owned. Needless to say I was traumatized and frightened. For all practical purposes they made promises and no actions and were offered even when I complained to the CEO. Avoid them at all costs. Basically they reimbursed me for the five days that I did not have a room rather than paying for the entire visit that they had bungled. They paid a few other expenses to my family members. Yes they brought me a nice fruit basket but remember, I had no where to put it. This deaf lady was abused horribly in Maui. I did not receive a check from them for weeks after I returned home. They pretended not to know my address even though it was on all of their correspondence. Was this breach of contract, fraud? Negligence? Or just abuse of a poor deaf woman? You decide.

March 28, 2022 I rented a condo for 4 days at the Paki Maui for a destination wedding. Upon arrival at 18:00, the condo was a shambles, it was not cleaned or COVID compliant. The bed striped with dirty underwear at the head of the bed. My wife and I spent the next several hours making multiple phone calls to Chase n' Rainbows. The person we spoke with was less than helpful; several calls later we still did not have a clear answer on a plan to correct the problem. Our first indication that the problem was being addressed was when a housekeeper arrived after 20:00 and it would take a couple of hours to adequately clean the place. We had to book alternate accommodations that were a one hour drive away. We missed out on dinner with our family that night. In the mourning we spoke with Chases n' Rainbows who said she would forward our complaint to management. We heard nothing for the next 4 days. All communications have been initiated by us with no attempt by Chase n' Rainbows to resolve provide a refund or ANY form of compensation. We did finally receive a refund for the alternative room for the night following multiple phone calls, emails and registered letter. There was no consideration for the family events we missed, the hour drive each way to a hotel room for the night or missing out on the first day of four in beautiful Maui. Buyer beware. There is NO communication, consideration or attempt at problem resolution.

Our fridge in our condo didn't work. I called them the day after arrival when I realized the fridge temperature was 63 degrees! . The gal told me she would send maintenance within the hour. 4 hours later I called again and she said "oh they came and they will have to get an appliance technician and they can't be there until the 14th". First of all, no one came because we were there. Second, I rented a condo so we could cook our own food! I was told that a manager would call me by the end of the day. I emailed twice after that explaining that we lost over $200.00 in groceries and after settling in, the place was filthy. i was wondering what our options were. Could we move? Could they send over a mini fridge? NO RESPONSE from a manager. They did credit my credit card for the groceries that we lost but they obviously didn't care to hear that we were upset that we didn't have a properly running refrigerator the entire time we were there and the place was filthy. By the way, an appliance technician never did show up as far as we know. If they did, there was no communication to us and it wasn't properly working when we left. I don't know what cleaning company they use, but the floors were filthy, the curtains were moldy and the living room chairs were so dirty and crusty, no one wanted to sit on them.

I could go on but why? It was great condo to stay.

Now the bad: There are a group of people (we found out later that they own units here) who are not nice. They hang out at the pool daily, sit on the steps and talk very loudly. Then they complain to the workers if you play music near them. Our music was not loud at all and even the worker told us so and he felt bad. The workers say they play music by the pool too and it's only this group of owners who complain a lot. Oh and they give you dirty looks too. I usually love hanging out with older people but some of these people/ owners are just crabby & unhappy people. Hope that helps. Good luck if you decide to stay.

The unit was pretty well appointed but the owners must be quite tall. The toilet is really high and my feet dangled several inches off the floor while using it. The jetted tub was hard to get into and the bed was rather high too. If you are petite like me and get this unit, you will have to contact Aston to get a change, the front desk can't help you. Maybe we should have done that, but we arrived after Aston was closed for they day and once unpacked we didn't want to move the next day. Our unit did not have many electrical outlets and no USB ports. Luckily we brought along an extension cord and USB power adapters. The unit was equipped with standard plates, glasses, utensils, blender, toaster, coffee maker, stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice dispenser, and dishwasher. Kleenex, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, one package of laundry soap and plenty of bathroom towels. The grounds are well maintained, gardeners were trimming and sweeping most of the day. The lobby has hot coffee urns in the morning and delicious pineapple iced tea in the afternoons. The location is fantastic, steps away from the beach, next door to Whalers Village for shopping, right along the beach walk. We didn't use the pool but sat by it once chairs became available in the late afternoon (there were lots of chairs but even more chair hogs.) My husband did use the hot tub and reported it was quite hot. The pool area has coffee in the mornings and iced tea in the afternoons. I used the fitness center a couple of times. There were dumbbells of many weights and other great strength training equipment. There were also treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bicycles. Water and towels were provided. Overall, we feel we made a great choice in booking The Whaler.

I was hoping to stay in the Napili Tower, mainly because I liked the pool area better--longer, more spread out, and largely oceanfront. That said, the Lahaina Tower ended up having its own perks. The biggest one is that it's right next to the self-parking structure that's used for the whole resort, which makes coming and going incredibly easy. If you're staying in the Napili tower, self-parking is all the way on the other side and I would recommend using valet instead to save you the walk. Our room was spacious and comfortable, technically "oceanfront," though it felt more like oceanview. Still, no complaints--the view was lovely, and the room itself had a convenient kitchenette with a fridge, sink, and all the basics (plates, utensils, etc.), which made snack time quick and easy. The Lahaina Tower also has its own smaller pool area, plus a few fun extras like ping pong and foosball. It's also right by Longhi's, if you're looking for an easy meal. If you want more action, the main pool area--with the large, winding pool and additional dining options--is just a short walk away. The weather during our stay wasn't the best--it was actually pretty chilly by Maui standards following the heels of two major storms--but we still had a great time. Between the comfortable room, convenient location, and easy access to everything on property, it made for a relaxed and low-effort getaway. While the resort may not be the newest, we really like the main pool area. I'll definitely opt for the Lahaina/Napili towers again next time. This is a great resort, especially for families looking for a laid-back Maui stay with nice views and plenty to do.

The property has everything you could possibly need -- pools, beach access, restaurants, shops, BBQ grills, valet parking and activities all within walking distance. It's a perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the island without ever having to leave the resort. That said, some common items are definitely overpriced, and you can find better deals just a short walk or drive away. Still, the $50 all-you-can-drink option (coffee, tea, juice, and soda) was absolutely worth it -- super convenient and a great value for resort guests who want unlimited refills throughout the day good for the entire stay. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, and an unbeatable location right on Kaanapali Beach. Just be prepared to spend a little more for the convenience.

You have to pay $90 for two beach chairs and an umbrella. $36 for just an umbrella. Parking is $35 a night. It all adds up quickly. If you want a lounge chair at the pool, you have to get up by 5 AM to get the one you want. They have activities all day and live music most nights- really enjoyable to sit by the fit pit, watch the sunset and live. The rooms are hit and miss. Sometimes we get an ocean view where you can see a sliver of water. Another time we were next to their laundry units, which were loud. Other times we were ocean front and it was incredible to watch the whales. The little kitchenette is perfect. They are well stocked. And I love that you can do laundry. Which I understand, it was just a request to have a different view. They gave us room 1164 (Studio room in tower 2). The views from the balcony is beautiful. You CAN hear the ocean from your balcony. There is a small table to eat meals in your balcony & a lounger chair. We did not pick a Premium studio so that is why the furniture, kitchen and bathroom is dated. But we were only there to eat and sleep. The bed was too low but was comfy and soft. There is a small sized tv facing the bed. Hawaiian tropical decor all around. The bathroom was ok. The kitchen is fully stocked. Dishwasher and stove works. There is a shared washing machine & dryer in each floor by the elevators. They provide just enough dishwasher pods, soap, and laundry detergent. Again this hotel is a nice gem. Steps away from the Whalers Village: Restaurants & ABC store is walking distance. Hotel grounds are immaculate. Every morning, you can see the workers cleaning or pruning the trees/flowers. You get what you pay for, if you want updated/newer furniture, pick the Premium.
