She is loving and thoughtful with all of the kiddos. She goes above and beyond and does it in a really humble way. Ms. Marilyn and Ms. Stephanie were my son's primary teachers and he adored them. If you're not used to the Montessori system, you can ask Ms. Maggie about it and make sure it's a fit for you and your kiddo. I honestly wasn't sure at first, but my son thrived. From the very beginning, she absolutely loved being there -- and as parents, we felt the same. The warmth, structure, and intentionality of the program helped our daughter thrive. Her curriculum fosters independence, empathy, and a real love for learning. She was always available -- whether by message or phone call -- and her communication gave us so much peace of mind. Though we were sad when the school moved to its new location in Poway, we are so happy for Miss Sarah and her new chapter. Thanks to the Nest, my son is not only prepared for elementary school- he's confident, curious, and eager to learn. He knows all the planets in the solar system, all the letters of the alphabet, how to spell his name, and while every child is different, The Nest played a major factor in my son learning how to read! On top of the academics, my son also repeats his daily affirmations, building confidence and emotional intelligence- which I am in awe over. I'm so grateful for the foundation they've given him. During the tour, I asked a few questions to confirm what they advertised on their website -- that they were a traditional Montessori school. I asked Patricia, the founder and director, if there were any ways in which they deviated from traditional Montessori practices and principles and she said, "no, we don't deviate at all from traditional Montessori practices." So, I was shocked when picking up my 2 year old a little early from "Montessori time" (830am-130pm) to find the entire school huddled around a TV watching Troll cartoons. This is a double whammy of violating the Montessori principles of not using technology/screen time and avoiding fantasy. After asking Patricia about it, she confirmed that they put the kids in front of the television when it was hot outside. (With the location in East County, it is hot a lot in the afternoons.) Given that they lied about staying true to traditional Montessori practices and principles, I didn't feel safe continuing to leave my toddler in their care, because I don't trust that they aren't misleading about other areas of their care. I understand if a preschool decides to use TV sometimes, but I don't feel that it's okay to mislead parents about it. Their communication has been terrible from day one, from not telling me everything I needed to bring with her on the first day of school even when I specifically asked, to not informing me of major milestones like the first time she went on the potty. Since I've pulled my daughter out, I have not been able to get a response from the school about getting my full refund (they only sent a check with a portion of the security deposit and no explanation on why they are not refunding me for the entire security deposit plus the days she will not be attending in July) nor a reply to any of my emails.

I took her to the pediatrician to have her face looked at, in hopes that she would open up and tell the doctor who really did this to her and to get advice on how to heal broken blood vessels. Unfortunately, based on the size and force of the mark, it may not have been a child. The director said that the child that my daughter named is too sickly to have done this. When I tried to get answers, I was repeatedly dismissed with, "What do you want me to do?" Their solution to bullying is simply moving the child, not addressing the issue or teaching the kids proper behavior. The cameras don't store footage for more than 72 hours, so it's impossible to get answers about what's really going on. The director's response when I expressed concerns about my child being hurt again was chilling: "I can't guarantee she won't get hit again. If you're not okay with that, this isn't the environment for her." I removed my daughter from this preschool and do not recommend it to anyone looking for a supportive environment for their child. It's like the McDonald's of Montessori--cheap and pretending to offer a quality Montessori.

WE LOVED THE LITTLE SCHOOL!!!!…read more If you're looking for a behavior-based pre-school that will help your kids grow into well-balanced, respectful and self-aware little children, then this is without-a-doubt the school for your family! Both of my kids attended The Little School (TLS) from 2011-2016, and I can honestly say (with absolute gratitude and humility) that they are typically the most well-behaved and well-spoken kids in most social settings. During the last five years, our family of four learned a great deal about how to use positive reinforcement and respect when dealing with parent/child intercommunications. The children learned how to communicate using their words (use your words, please), problem solve with their little peers (ask Megan about the buddy-bench), and accept their own responsibilities (who's responsibility is it?). From the start, TLS helped me personally be a better parent. For example, when my first child started to walk and learned how to climb up onto a chair my first reaction was to say, "No standing!". Yet, what I learned was, the best way to handle that situation is to say, "Sit down, please." As parents, my wife and I also learned how to provide better direction to our children; without them losing a sense of control. For example: "Kids, it's shower time. Do you want to walk, or do you want me to carry you?" Either way they're taking a shower. The same option was also used when we started to put them to bed on their own. Brilliant! There are way too many scenarios to list here so I won't even try. Megan and her staff are extremely loving and supportive, and if there's anything you need help with as a parent she can help you with some great suggestions and ideas to help you manage through it. We really consider Megan and her family, and some of the other families we met there, an extension of our own family. In short, for us, The Little School experience was the social foundation and fabric from which our kids' lives are formed from - and for that we will eternally be grateful. We moved last summer and she still remembers the songs and reminds me that she painted her very first painting that I framed.( She's NOW 2) I loved the little school for the perfect care and love we both received. As an "older" mom, I never thought I'd need to know about kid's nutrition or potty training! But I learned SO MUCH about parenting from the teachers and staff. With the Positive Discipline approach the terrible twos have not been terrible at all....I'm actually surviving them (only 2-months in). But most importantly, the genuine regard for all the children's unique personalities, talents and quirks really set the Little School apart from others that I entertained. There is a peace about the environment there that I've not found eleswhere. Each child is appreciated. Each child is respected. You can't ask for more than that!
