A few weeks ago I bought my favorite wine 999 Broadway made by Chateau Buffalo at the Wine Sellar and it just didnt taste the same. It wasn't totally bad, just different. I sent a message to them & they confirmed my suspicions. Carl (the owner) reached out to me & explained what happened & offered me a replacement bottle plus a wonderful charcuterie board with free samples. I have never been to their winery and boy I was glad that I went, a really nice & welcoming space. A must try is the 999 Broadway Dyngus Reserve, a great Easter time wine. The wine is also sold at the Broadway Market during holidays. I will definitely be going back for more! read more

Great place to taste New York wines. Owners are very nice and very informed on their wines presented. When tasting they are right about what your palate will experience. They have a large selection of wines , reasonably priced, fir you to purchase as well as sample. Wine tastes, wine flights etc. And you get to keep their signature glass! I have had their 999 broadway a few times when family brings it down and it is amazing if you like sweet wines. My wife and I finally got the chance to visit when we took a trip for our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was a very nice place. Last week I tasted Terminus 2017 Red Wine Blend at the North Tonawanda farmer's market. This met my modest expectations for an affordable screw-top wine by a local craft producer.- fun, light, dry, and a bit chocolate-forward. Or as winemaker Carl Schmitter aptly describes on his company's website: "exploratory and artistic". I thanked Carl for the tasting and his kindness, then continued on. A couple market stalls later, the finish kicked in - surprisingly complex and balanced. So I returned and bought a bottle for my cellar. While I won't rate this as 'exceptional' or 'classic', it is quite satisfying and unique, and certainly a good value at its price point. I'll enjoy this as an aperitif with cheese, or possibly with poultry as an entree. read more

Stopped in for a wine and cider tasting. We weren't really sure what to expect since there wasn't any signs posted on tastings and what they included, however the employee was super friendly and when we told him it was our first time visiting, he gave us the low down. We chose the tasting which was $10. It seemed expensive at first until I found out we would get to try all of the wines and ciders on the menu (10), which is most of what they offer in the store. The pours were big pours too, so think of it as a dollar per tasting, for those pours, was a good deal. Starting with the ciders, you go from dry to sweet. The first one we had was dry but very light and refreshing - Perry Pirouette, made with pears, very good. There was a also a cider blended with strawberry, that was tasty too. Onto the wines, the dry Riesling had an interesting flavor, almost like hints of vanilla. I enjoy Riesling but wasn't a huge fan of this one. You end with a dessert wine, which was a cherry one when we went. If you love cherries - this is a must! I liked that all the wines and ciders are made locally and bottled at a fair price. He told us that we also get a 15% off discount on any bottle we take home, but not sure why, maybe because we did the tasting. Anyway, I'm glad we ventured out to try this place. The atmosphere was definitely not what I expected though. Located in the Niagara frontier food terminal, it was kind creepy driving around it since it was so old. Not sure of their hours, but wouldn't go here past dark. Also, the inside has a hipster vibe to it, the music was like dark foreign techno, not necessarily a bad thing, just very different from most tasting rooms. Fun urban winery located in a less travelled part of the city. We arrived right when the owner opened and lucked into a private tasting. The owner explained where the grapes were sourced and their wine making processes- All local and was fun to learn. The store is a little rough around the edges but that added to the experience. If you enjoy sweet wines, then this is your place - The 999 Broadway and the Love Joy Rosé were nice wines and inexpensive. The highlight was the Dandelion wine. Never tried one before and it was limited as its hard to make. They also makes different and creative ciders. I love this place!! My husband and I have very different tastes in wine and cider, but we each found something we loved. They have a variety of wines and ciders- from fruit forward and sweeter, to drier and more full bodied. My favorite part? The full bottles of wine and cider are incredibly affordable! We definitely left well stocked for the coming months. Their tasting room is beautiful and a perfect place to enjoy some time with friends and family. We made a reservation since there were 8 of us. They accommodated a large group wonderfully. The owner was kind and informative about the wine, as well as the local cheese plate we ordered. Everything we tried was delicious- from the wine to the cider to the cheese. Over the years we have tasted their wines at the Broadway market, (we even had a case of their Pear cider at our wedding) but I'm so glad we came to their home base. I highly recommend stopping in to check out their tasting room! They also carry wines and ciders from other local NY wineries. read more

We visited visited during the Hallowine tour. All of their wines we tried were decent. The winery itself is small and almost looks creepy because it looks like a church out of a horror movie. I was sceptical pulling up but actually really enjoyed the wines we tasted. We will definitely be back. Our wine server was very friendly and gave great recommendations. read more

Had an amazing tasting experience here with a Groupon I had purchased. The Groupon was extremely affordable for a 4 person tasting. The location is a little hidden, so you have to keep your eyes out for it. When we arrived, we were the only people there. It is a very small, cute place. They had a nice table set up for the 4 of us, very exclusive and private. We started off with ciders and then went to wines after. During this, we also had two cheese plates and crackers. The cheese was a nice touch, and delicious. The crackers were super good, too! The guy working was extremely friendly! He was very knowledgeable on each and every product. We were given at least 4 glasses of cider and 4 glasses of wine. They were very large portions compared to any tasting I have been to, where you normally just get a splash. They were all at least half glasses. The whole atmosphere was relaxed. We had a great time between drinking, eating cheese, and conversing amongst ourselves and the employee. It was 100% better than I ever expected it to be, and I was going into it with a positive attitude already. We scheduled our tasting for 6pm. They close at 7pm, and we were there well past 8pm. He never rushed us at all, and did not make us feel like an inconvenience in anyway! I really appreciate how much effort he put in, when he definitely did not have to. He went above and beyond! To add, the cider and wine was very good. I am not always a fan of either, or can be considered picky, but it all was pretty good (even for pickier people). The prices are very reasonable too, if you are interested in buying any bottles from them. Definitely one of the best Groupons I have ever bought; well worth the money! I purchased a Groupon for my boyfriend and I. $12.50 for $25 worth of cider and wine tasting with cheese. We decided to go after our final exams, to celebrate. I called on Wednesday to inform them that we would be coming on Friday. As the hour loomed closer, I started getting afraid that we would be the only people there and that it would be awkward. But nonetheless, we trekked down to the Clinton-Bailey neighborhood for some cider and cheese! The place itself is weird to find. It's right before Bailey Ave if you're heading down Clinton St from Downtown. If not for the small neon "Open" sign, I probably would have driven right past it. We parked, and found the entrance in the back. Inside, the place is nice and inviting. Warm colors, with lots of wine bottles and artisan products. We told the guy (who ended up being the owner and only person there) about the Groupon. He informed us that nobody else would be there other than us. Great... my big fear! He provided us with the list of the 5 cheeses, all artisan NYS cheeses. There was a white cheddar, blue cheese, smoked gouda, herbed goat cheese, and camembert. We were also given crackers. He provided us with 2 lists -- one of ciders and one of wines. He recommended starting with the ciders, because they are lighter. We had their homemade, Chateau Buffalo Apfelwine cider. It was a delicious homemade cider. You could really taste the sweet apples unlike many other ciders! Next we tried the honey mead, because we love mead. Thirdly we tried the Cherry port wine, and lastly, I tasted some ice wine. While we drank, we spoke with the owner personally, as it was just the three of us (some people did wander in and out though). He told us all about how he started the company, about how they started on Hertel, and how he got into winemaking in general. You could hear the passion when he spoke. He was very knowledgable about wines, even providing us with a little science/chemistry lesson about the wines. The experience itself was so much fun. Not only was it intimate, but I loved supporting the small business. I ended up purchasing the cherry port and Apfelwine, as well as a few little $2 jellies (cranberry and red wine). I will definitely be back to purchase the delicious wines here. I'll probably even go back for another tasting! I really, really, really recommend this place for a nice intimate experience if you like cider, wine, and cheese!! read more

Bought a bottle of wine at the broadway market the day before easter. Just opened it yesterday and it tasted like vodka. It hadn't been opened yet, but it tasted like it fermented more in the bottle. It definitely did not taste anything like what I sampled that day. It was so strong and rancid tasting, we had to dump the entire thing. I bought a bottle of desert wine that day, too, and now I'm afraid to open that. What I sampled that day was great and I was looking forward to buying more, but if the bottles have such a short shelf life, I won't be buying again. Update: I emailed them in July about this and received a response saying they'd replace the bottle. I emailed back the name of the wine and never heard back. It's now October. read more

Hertel Ave location is closed. Great locally made cider. The owners are moving to the niagara frontier food terminal, but in the mean time they set up shop in the Broadway Market on Saturdays for sure. Do a tasting there and see which ones you like, they have dry and sweet ciders. read more

What an experience! The guys who run this place know how to take care of their customers. We came in with a Groupon and no reservation because we didn't read the fine print, but they still treated us so well!!! An amazing NY cheese plate and more ciders and wines than we could drink. We had to tell them to stop!! So many varieties and so friendly. We can't say enough great things about the experience of this urban winery and cidery. read more
