Music is so-so, really just below average. They don't have a good dj and the sound, from what I can tell is karoke, or the jukebox, yes, it is in the corner, but if you go to play a song, security yells at you to move...sigh. This bar is so small and as far as dancing, there is no solid music to dance too. Small area to gather. I found security to be rude, and the bar itself, just a dive area that has a big parking lot. They also have a band that attempts to play dance music, sigh, what a waste of cover charge. This bar is probably the worst bar around, and security is the worst. But we went because the band Detroit PowerPlay was playing and we thought since it was number one small band in Detroit area that it would be good. The band was good. The woman singer sang one song, good and all the other songs she sang were so out of tune. It was hard to even listen to, they need to replace her if they think that they're gonna be a good band. Went to CHATTERS in Westland on Wednesday... and a guy ( maybe in his 20s) approached me( I was The only person in the bar with a mask) and he said, "I'm an American and you're a COON!". I thought I misunderstood him so I asked him to repeat it and he said the same thing and then he demanded me to lower my facemask, " Lower your mask so I can see what your face looks like!". I leaned into him and called him an asshole and went and told security. After I told the security guard what the guy told me and pointed him out to him, he said, "Oh that guy? He's harmless!"...(and I think he said he was a rapper and that he calls the security guard names because he is Hispanic I think he said)... so I told the security guy, " Well...are u going to walk me to my car and make sure this man Doesn't follow me home? Because I'm taking that as a threat! Clearly he's bothered that I am darker than he is and he's calling me a very insulting nasty slur! And I'm not comfortable with that!".... I couldn't hear what the security guy said back. But the guy had went out the front door and the security guy followed him. Never saw either one of them again. You guys can keep CHATTERS. Let's do the time warp again! That's what going into Chatters will provide you. This garishly yellow Westland dive bar is dark, darker and the darkest place in town. They've got a pretty nice little stage for Karaoke, often have local bands in and always have some sort of a special or promotion going. You'll walk in and most likely attract some glares from regulars, especially if you're just stopping in to play darts or grab a drink. Some of the specials have always been intriguing, but I've just not been brave enough to try $9.99 All You Can Eat Crab Legs from a bar that I feel like I need to leave within 20 minutes for fear of my lungs shriveling up due to smoke inhalation. The few times I've been in, I've only started to get regular attention after my second beer has been drained. I've had their burgers, and while they're not the tops, they're solid. I'd make the trip to Livonia to go to Mason's though. Good for Karaoke and cheap drinks if you're absolutely broke but that's about it. read more

Food has always been good. We like to go for lunch and dinner. Older, friendly, quieter crowd before the bands start. The "open jam" bands are pretty bad. So, before a Yelp event, I wanted to go someplace else in the area to have a few drinks and kill some time before it started. Naturally, I wanted to find the place with the lowest Yelp rating possible...because, well, that's what I do. I was actually kind of disappointed, fellow Yelpers. For a place with so many 1 and 2 star reviews, I am yet again led to believe that many of you have to clue when it comes to the kind of place you're walking in to before you get there, and are incapable of judging a place for what it is, not what you want it to be. It's a great little dive bar with friendly bartenders, regulars at the end of the bar talking all kinds of outlandish nonsense from politics to whether or not Detroit still sucks, a solid variety of booze and beers to be had and an overall decent selection of food to snack on. I'm so disappointed in this place now. I use to brag about how much fun we would have here and how good the food and drinks were. Not anymore! Don't waste your time coming here for the crab legs! They aren't the same. I don't mind paying the extra 10$ price increase for them but I do expect for them to taste the same. The crab legs I ordered tonight was AWFUL! they weren't seasoned at all. No flavor just bland cooked in hot water crab legs. I sent that shit back to the kitchen! I refuse to pay 40$ for 3 clusters of crab legs that had absolutely no flavor or taste! Hell, if that's the case I could've bought my own from Kroger and cooked them my dam self! Unfortunately I'm done with Chatter's. They probably didn't want my black ass there anyway. It was a nice day out and with no windows you think they would have a door open or something . After sitting down we realized the whole place smelled like urine ! Once you get inside, it's your average local band bar. Service is good at the bar, less so in the rest of the room. The big problem is the horde of smokers who congregate around the door. Really, it's dry 75 degrees, and the bar won't leave without you. Clear a path so patrons can get inside. Seriously, it was fifteen people. I'm not even going to say 'excuse me' to any of them because their blocking the door is rude. I'm sure it's not helping business one bit either. The band, Detroit Drive, is pretty good and they play what the crowd likes, so why not stop chasing cancer and blocking the door? Let people in! Will aliens abduct you if you don't stay right on top of either door? Are they afraid of the dark? Sure, the lot could have more lights, but it's not that dark. After years of being gone from the area, I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked in chatters for the first time in 10+ years. And true to chatters nature, not one thing had changed. For a dive bar, this place is one of the best. They have the coolest bunch of people who frequent here, all different types and backgrounds. Unlimited crab legas for like $40. Absolutely ridiculous amounts of crab legs being served here. So mouth watering. Our server Kelli was great. She juggled the chaos and all her tables perfectly. This place is not bad as far as dive bars go. You most likely won't get shanked or anything like that, although I've been vaguely threatened a few times. I mainly go for the "slow nights" when they have karaoke or open mic, because the beer is fucking cheap on these nights. $5 pitchers, usually, and I'm an unapologetic lush, so that suits me just fine. The karaoke is ran by a few different people depending on the night you go, but it's pretty chill and if you get there by 9/10 you can expect to sing a few songs. The big karaoke night, Sunday, is pretty much overran with "metal heads", but they are a nice bunch despite their vain attempts to appear tough or dark or whatever the fuck people dress like that for. Monday is "Open Mic", and it's a great night to come and make everyone painfully aware of how well you know the Key of _____. It's horribly organized by something as awkwardly quantifiable and definitive as "songs". You can do 3 "songs", and what you end up making into a "song" is up to your balls and the discretion of the highly cliquey regular musicians who would probably be better served having a group orgy in the back lot with their instruments rather than partaking in the sad display of glory days lost on stage. On the weekends they have random local rock groups that will be well received by the regulars but not so much by people that like only the novelty of dive bars but possess actual musical taste. The food's hilariously good, and if what you order doesn't make you say WTF ... I'm sorry. It really makes no sense how good the food is in this place. Took us three weeks to calm down to write this review... The worst experience about ever, as the appetizers were almost not thawed out, drinks were short of good, and all you can eat crab legs discontinued due to "abuse". So how do you abuse all you can eat, then raise the price. Anyway, 5 people, bill comes to $200, we leave a cash tip as that's always good for the wait staff, then as we are walking out of restroom, waitress looks at us upset that we didn't leave a tip, and our $40 was gone, so now I'm upset and leave her another $25... Been a semi-regular here for more than 10 years. The kind that if you don't come in for a week, the hardcore regs act as if you've been in a coma for a year cuz they haven't seen you. I'm a live entertainment type so it's a decent place to see bands, if you don't mind seeing the same bands every month for too long. The rotation gets stale fast. During the week there's good drink specials. $5 pitchers, $10 buckets, $4 bombs. Drink prices are about average on weekend nights. The food is better than many other places, with big portions, & the menu has a variety that's not really overpriced with daily lunch & dinner specials. Lotsa big screens, free darts, jukebox, crack KENO, etc. Karaoke Sun,Tue, & Wed, Open Jam night on Mon, "country" with the band Yankeeville on Thurs(usually Chatters best night of the week), bands on Fri & Sat, usually classic rock. Make friends early with a waitress or bartender. It's sometimes difficult to get a drink in an expedient manner, even on slower nights. The staff sometimes gets pushy & rude pulling drinks at closing time so make your way out quickly. Very diverse crowd on any given night. Average Joe's, rock & rollers, suit & tie guys, muffin tops, roid-head Jersey Shore wannabes, people "still livin' in '82", bikers( with & without colors), scrawny guys in MMA gear, fat chicks, white guys that think they're black, a few cowboy hats, & even some actual black folks, ages 21-65.
