really great tasting coffee, really pricey, staff are mostly awesome loved the coffee. one of the staff was walking me through a little taste test. Didn't know coffee could taste so wildly different. It was great, and that worker was super kind. Though another staff member chided me twice (the second time with a little micro-lecture) about putting cream in my coffee. if i'd known i was going to get schooled i'd've brought a backpack, a notebook, and some spit balls. this irritation is compounded by the fact that they carry cream at all... if you don't believe in adding cream to any coffee, why stock it in the first place, except for the sadistic pleasure of consumer shaming and connoisseurist superiority? it's a steep price to pay for partaking of a pretty universal ritual. the space is SUPER pleasant to sit in, chairs lining the big giant windows that let in a ton of light. But seating availability is small... it's a comfortably small place. music was bloopy-melodic-electronica, which i loved. and their giant roaster room is cool to gawk at (though it reminds me of how Krispy Kreme started making their donut-assembly-belt room viewable through giant windows so that you got to stare at employees at work like they were zoo animals. it's not quite the same feeling watching the roaster room, but, there's some element of a production-tourism at play here, and in our culture at large, lately) also everything in here is so bloody expensive. why is everything that tastes so awesome also so wallet heavy? *sigh* such is life... read more

This place is unexpected in the area in which it resides. Because of the description of the place I always pictured it on Woodward, or in the heart of the action in Ferndale. In reality it is located in a more industrial area off of side streets, and has a nice parking lot (no parallel parking or meters, bonus!). The staff could not have been nicer, and were receptive to my newness. I ordered a cappuccino with an extra shot, and they gave me a minute to pick the beans. The drink was exactly hot enough, and tasted delicious. I was starving, so I had hoped to grab a muffin or bagel, but I didn't see any food there. It looks like a place you would enjoy hanging out in with your mates, and staying for a chat. I just carried out, but am looking forward to going back. read more

This coffee shop is truly one of Ferndale's best kept secrets, especially if you need a sit-down coffee shop from which to tackle some work. They make mean cappuccinos and their pour-overs are the real thing. Better than that though is how friendly and warm the team is at Chazzano. I don't know of a coffee shop that actually still serves you tableside and lets you cash out when you're ready to head out. That kind of personal touch is hard to find nowadays. There's always enough room to grab a table & you can even snag some freshly roasted beans to-go if you'd like, which I always do. Only thing to be aware of is that there are no snacks at Chazzano so be sure to eat beforehand if you'll be spending some time there. read more

Just visited with my dad, who like me really loves GOOD coffee. This place is really great, a total gem. The staff here really know and love coffee, and were warm and welcoming. Joe came by to give us his spiel. We settled on a 4-cup French Press of the Guatemala, which Joe said was his favorite -- and I can see why. It was delicious! Love this place. My husband has been ordering his coffee from here for months without ever darkening the door. When we were home for the holidays this was one of the places that we stopped at. Service was super friendly, and holy cow do they know their coffee! We had chai, hot chocolate, and several different coffees. They were all fantastic. I love their coffee. I find it amusing that they are terrified of cream and sugar in their coffee and some of their roasts smell a bit funky, but this is the second best coffee I've ever had. You can get multiple batches out of it. They're all about cross promoting the community too, which is admirable. Clearly, Chazzano takes pride in coffee-making. There is a whole experience involved in enjoying their coffee on-site. It makes me want to avoid run of the mill, chain coffee shops completely. They prepare coffee in a variety of ways to suit different coffee tastes, or in my case, to try something I've maybe never heard of (vacuum syphon?). Anywho, while there, several regulars came in with whom the staff was familiar. They are also incredibly helpful to newcomers, offering samples and providing unparalleled customer service. The place is nice, the coffee is great and the decor is great too. I am giving 2 stars only because of service. We visited on march 9th on a Monday at about 5:30pm. The male waitress was very nice and friendly but the girl/waitress was very curt. I know they were closing at 6pm but still you can't rush people out. She kept harping that they have to get "everyone shipped out" at 6 no matter what. What is that? The entire tone was bad and outright rude. She needs to calm down and let the paying customers finish the expensive coffee. She needs to learn some customer service skills. read more

Wanted to try a coffee shop other than Starbucks (which I only go to for the convenience of drive thru and location) before work since I had a little more time to spare. Locating this gem can be tasking. I almost miss the building every time I visit, whether it be bicycle or car. lol. The atmosphere is small and cozy with good music that is not too loud or obscure. The employees are all very friendly, informative and easy to chat with. I am not at all a coffee expert but their cold coffee is addicting. It's pricey but in my mind, quality is pricey. I walked in and explained my coffee conundrum to Clarissa, who promptly took me under her wing and whipped up some magic elixirs. I think my experience here can be summed up very succinctly. Yesterday I was not a coffee drinker. Today I am. Coffee is good. Who'd a thunk it? My absolute only suggestion would be to sell something to calm a tweeky belly. Several friends and I came in yesterday on (stupid) empty bellies and were the worse for it after a bit of very delicious coffee - however I do get that they're trying to be all about the coffee. Love Chazzano! It's my new meeting place for when I am in the area! They have the best coffee and tea and let me tell you the staff there is awesome! Really its the little things in life that make a difference. I left my sun glasses there a couple weeks ago and they called me 5 minutes after I left to let me know I left them behind. However, I remember when the baristas didn't tell me it takes 15 minutes for a vacuum siphon and said a certain coffee was unavailable for pour over. wth? Chazzano is too good. Here's what I'll say in an attempt to be subjective: -location is not ideal, Chazzano is way off the 'beaten path' of downtown Ferndale, the parking lot is kinda tough to get around, and the seating space is mad limited inside. HOWEVER. Chazzano offers some of the most depth in a coffee menu I've seen anywhere in the world. They roast their coffee there, and EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE not only knows most if not everything about the process, but they are HAPPY to talk to you about it. Coffee fans couldn't possibly have a bad experience at Chazzano; it is well worth the journey to get there. read more

This is one of the few places where I can actually drink the coffee black and really enjoy it. The selections are all winners. Recently I attended a community meeting there with my group and we had a blast with the cozy ambiance and the great coffees. The owner has always been personable and kind.
