They carried the viral fruit desserts that look exactly like the fruit being represented and taste just like that fruit also. We got a few different flavors and shared them with the family we were visiting. We were all impressed and pleased. On our 2nd visit we had the ham, egg, and cheese croissant. It was large enough that we could have shared 1 between 2 of us and still be satisfied. The egg was so fluffy, the cheese was very mild and the croissant was soft, buttery, and tender. If you want to treat yourself to a little self care then I'd head over here for the most divine pastries and beverages ever. We've been here several times on the weekend (even with the kids). The line is never too long, although it can look long but it moves quickly. All the pastries are in the refrigerated case or sitting atop of the counter for you to ogle and salivate at while you patiently wait to give your order. Everything we've tried has been delicious, almost too decadent from the cakes to croissants to sandwiches. We've also had their coffees and hot chocolate. Can't go wrong with a handcrafted beverage to warm you up or cool you down. They do provide a water carafe on the house you just have to go up and get water yourself either way the cups provided. There is a side register near the exit, not sure if that's just for coffee or pickups. Haven't investigated that yet. They have some seating inside of tables and bar seating but nothing more the a 2-3 seats per table, not a place for a large group. Outside on the patio they have large umbrellas and heat lamps depending on the weather. It's also better luck to find a table that can accommodate 4 outside, although the tables are small cafe tables to it's a little cramped for 4, perfect for 2-3. They have low and high top tables available. If you do have a larger group, there is a park a block and a half up Eton that has picnic tables and benches so you can always take your treasures to go and enjoy some people watching at the park. Ample parking is available in the lot just make sure you go in the correct driveway at the north end since it's a one way in/out situation. read more

I've gotten croissants from Cannelle three or four times at various farmer's markets and coffee shops around the area and have never been very impressed. The pastries here look absolutely scrumptious but the construction and techniques used leave a lot to be desired. I figured that I should probably try the original location to get the freshest and best croissants before I give my final judgement. It turned out pretty similar to what I have had previously. Almond Croissant ($5.50) - This is a twice baked almond croissant and I'm not sure why they don't specify it on the tag. It's dusted with powdered sugar and almond slices, with some frangipane baked hard on top. The lamination here is very poor, resulting in thick layers that stick together. This makes a croissant that is very dense and bready rather than light, fluffy and buttery. The interior does have a layer of almond paste that kind of melds into the croissant and is a bit hard to detect. The paste is on the gummy side. The croissant overall is very sweet and that's pretty much the defining taste. Galette Des Rois Slice ($6.00) - I didn't know what this was and had to ask (I've only seen New Orleans-style King Cakes before). It was explained to me as croissant dough sandwiching an almond paste. This pastry is very heavily almond flavored, which matches the promise. Once again, the croissant layers are quite doughy and tough. The almond paste is about half inch thick and is a bit gummy. Tastes good though, very sweet and almond-forward! My previous purchases involved the normal baked croissants, and I've always found that Cannelle overbakes them, resulting in a croissant that 's more crunchy than fluffy. I've also gotten a baguette from them once that I found to be extremely over salted - in fact it's the only baguette in recent memory that I couldn't finish because it was so difficult to eat. To be clear, the croissants at Cannelle aren't bad, they just don't seem to be as technique driven as bakeries with more traditional croissants. Considering that their logo includes the instagram symbol, it seems like they target that crowd with pastries that look really nice, but aren't necessarily the highest quality. Then again there are not a lot of bakeries in Metro Detroit that serve specialty croissants, so Cannelle is still an okay place to visit if you have that croissant craving. read more

I stopped during the week for a coffee and cinnamon roll. The coffee is good. The cinnamon roll is excellent. The cinnamon roll is made with the buttery, croissant dough (yum). Plenty of cinnamon. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Yummm. Cannelle has my favorite croissant . The pastry display is always amazing. This location is so charming. It is my favorite Cannelle location. They have expanded it over the years, but it is small for the amount of business. It also tends to get loud. The service is excellent. They are friendly and accommodating. In the winter there are not enough inside tables. It can hit or miss if there is a table available. For that reason, I don't think it is great for work. read more

I came early on a weekday because I heard great things about this bakery. I'm staying .5 miles away so, let's go! It was hard to decide. Everything looks delicious. The pastry chef/owner is award winning so I had to try at least two. There were several people dining in (Hello Canada wildfires!) and soft French music was playing. I ordered pistachio chocolate and almond croissants. Both delicious, but like Aaron B. wrote they were smashed down and soft. Not crisp and flaky like the croissants I am used to ordering from my local bakeries. At $7 and $5.50 each I probably won't order these again, but I will be back to try something else. My first experience here was not great, but I am glad that I gave it a second chance. This space is horrendous - between the parking and the actual layout inside. If you go when it's busy, don't expect to be able to find parking nearby, and once you do finally make it inside, you will feel like cattle being shuffled through a narrow hallway as quickly as possible. If you go when it's not particularly busy, you'll have a much better experience. On my most recent experience I was looking for small cakes for several birthdays. I purchased 3 slices, 1 small tarte, and 6 macarons which came out to a whopping $52. These treats were pretty and delicious, but not-at-these-prices-delicious. I'm fine with paying for quality goods/services, but I do not feel like I got my money's worth. The favorite of them all was the croqant, and the least favorite was the tiramisu. I still have mixed feelings and I don't know if I would recommend it to others just yet, but I will probably give them one more chance. read more

Cannelle is a charming upscale European-style patisserie in Birmingham. Whether you like savory or sweet desserts, there is something for everyone. My favorite is the goat cheese and olive croissant among other savory flavors. I also enjoyed the Frasier, a sponge cake with cream and strawberries. I was not a fan of the sandwiches. I ordered the Jambon Beurre and was accidently given the Moelleux on Fromage. I gave it back and was given the Jambon Beurre. Both sandwiches looked sloppily made and nothing at all like the photos you will see on Cannelle's webpage. I remember from my time in France the Jambon Beurre sandwiches on a long baguette with thick chunks of butter throughout the sandwich. The sandwich I received was small and the butter was mostly melted and there was not a lot of it. I think the sandwich would taste a lot better if it had brie in it. The shop is very small with limited indoor seating. There is some outdoor seating and a covered gazebo that I believe was erected in the last year. read more

I love vibrant and beautiful art, esp on my pastries! The art work and beautiful pieces in here are gorgeous and deserve respect. On the other hand... the pastries could def use some work. The mouse chocolate and strawberry slice is so overwhelmingly sweet you'll choke if you don't have a glass of water near by. Tooth achingly sweet... This is the pattern seems to be constant, we had the pistachios, and chocolate macarons and yet again, the cream filling is so overwhelming and sugary, neither me or my mom could finish them and throw them out 1/2 way through, and that's unfortunate for how much I paid for that $$$. The strawberry short cake was okay, not good; reason being, the strawberries inside had went sour and tasted acidic and rancid. Not what I expected in a cafe like this. The tiramisu was great! Easy on that sugar! Just some food for thought ...... (: The staff was so friendly and sweet! Cute bistro with seating inside and out. It was busy but we were served promptly and everything was packed beautifully for our take away order. We ordered the soft leek tart and a slice of flan. The flan slice was large and looked beautiful. But instead of a caramel topping or sauce it looked like they tried to caramelize the top but were not successful. The texture was a little grainy and not very flavorful instead of that smooth vanilla pudding-like dessert I'm used to. The soft tart was gorgeous with a flakey pastry and creamy looking filling. Again, I was not expecting a sweet crust with a savory filling. The pastry by itself was flaked with just the right amount of sweetness (if it were a sweet tart). The filling needed either more leeks or more seasoning. It was bland. We going to try it one more time because the flaky tart conveniences me that maybe they have a new cook?
