I was referred to CHD Dental Care in Northridge for a non surgical root canal retreatment (retreat). Knowing how restrictive Medi-Cal Dental can be, I explicitly asked upfront for a breakdown of any potential out of pocket expenses. I was told over the phone that the only thing I would have to pay out of pocket for was the standard CT scan. However, once I got there, they dropped a massive bomb on me: a surprise $750 fee which would bring my out of pocket expense over a grand with the CT scan which they have not taken yet. When I asked to know what this extra charge was for, the dentist tried to tell me it was for "medication needed to kill the infection" during my retreat procedure. How did this dentist who was not the Endodontist specialist decide i needed D3431 procedure which is exclusively for biologic materials used for bone regeneration during invasive oral surgery (like an apicoectomy) when my dentist sent me to get a retreat? My dentist warned me the x rays indicated a straight forward retreat to her, but the specialist could find something in the CT scan that the x rays did not cover. Please note this dentist did not look at any CT scans what so ever in deciding i needed this D3431 procedure. Sorry but this feels like deceptive billing tactics. They explicitly coded this $750 charge which usually runs around $400 by the way - under ADA Code D3431. For anyone who doesn't know, D3431 is exclusively for biologic materials used for bone regeneration during invasive oral surgery (like an apicoectomy). An endodontist cannot legally or logically charge you for surgical bone grafting when they are performing a standard, non surgical root canal retreat through the top of the tooth. Those two things do not belong to the same procedure. When I called them out on this and gave them the exact definition of code D3431, they couldn't give me a straight answer as to why a surgical bone grafting fee was going to applied to a non surgical retreat, or why they called bone grafting material an "infection medication." Please note the dentist has not taken or looked at any CT scan up to this point. Either this office is completely incompetent at basic dental coding, or they are actively trying to exploit Medi-Cal patients by sneaking in fraudulent, surgical fees to make an extra $750 out of pocket. This seems to be predatory, unethical, and completely untrustworthy in my opinion. If you are sent here, demand a printed, itemized estimate with every single ADA code before they touch your mouth, and double check exactly what they are charging you for. read more

They haven't send out anything to my insurance regarding my crown I've been waiting for months!! Makes me feel like they're prolonging it to get it to get bad to the point of root canal so since I had a bad feeling after calling their office and them brushing me off everytime saying "we will call you when you're insurance gets back to us and accepts your crown" I decided to call my insurance to see what's going on and my insurance said they haven't received anything from them this entire time! I had my insurance agent call them while I was on the call and they just brushed me off and said we will give you all and see why the authorization hasn't been sent after MONTHS of me waiting and unable to clean my chipped tooth and mind you it's chipped bc of the overflowing filling that they have done. Oof where do I start? I came here for help and they went above and more. I had gone to a different dentist here in the Valley and they didn't do 4 root canals correctly. They have specialist here that specifically specialize in what you need and want. They work with you and try to help you the best way they may. The process has been a breeze. Do not trust this dentist and what office staff specially office manager "LESLIE" and "AKRAM (assistant)" tell you. Dishonest, misinforming and their aim is to make you coming in and after that make you pay above and beyond what insurance cover, Specially with Dentalcal (which is part of Medical) insurance recipients. I was approved for root canal and crown for tooth #19. Four and half month appointment into appointments' and have 4 doctors and 4 assistant working in my mouth and ordering 3 crowns for the tooth they told me root is calcified and Infected and should be extracted and replace with 3 unit Bridge ($3600) or Implant ($3500+). I have decided to have it extracted and now the principal doctor stating that What Doctor Anravi the Endodontist Specialist is wrong about the calcification of the root and we can save the tooth by doing the root canal, but, now it get interesting, but our root canal specialist available do not take Medical and charges and if you want we can schedule that right away and our own root canal specialist who accept medical is pregnant and won't be back for 2 months, you decide. I said by now I am waiting for 4 and Half months and okay I don't mind to wait for your specialist. Office manage, the crooked head office manager "LESLIE" taking me to the office stating that doctor said he might be able to do the root canal and it is not for certain and we charge $500 to put treatment in the tooth to see if it help to open the calcification to do the root canal (I have recorded this conversation because I realized that they are looking way to collect money and charge me for something that Medical authorized and agreed to pay. Four and half month ago I went there to take of the problem with Tooth #19 and I have left with same and even worse problem with tooth #19 (Calcified and Infected tooth). I've neglected going to a dentist for many years so I booked an appointment for a checkup and a cleaning at CHD since this location was very close to where I live. The new patient paperwork was easy and I felt that the wait didn't take long despite being busy. I got modern vibes from the lobby and the dental chair and the office was clean. The staff was easy to talk to and the checkup was done professionally. I felt that the dentist really took his time to ensure I was properly attended to and my hygienist Mynhan did a really good job making my teeth and gums feel clean for the first time in many years. Overall I got the sense that the staff have a good team and together cohesively which positively affected my experience. read more

Sadly they have taken advantage of my elderly mom. They're in for the business and do hard sell. I warned my mom from the moment she went to her first visit but she was sold. Wish it was sooner but when she finally realized how she was taken advantage of, the staff started to treat her unkindly. I accompanied her to (hopefully) the last visit in this dental office and when my mom asked me to read the patient agreement on their tablet before signing, the front desk lady was rolling her eyes at me. Wish they did that in the beginning when they sold my mom the Care Credit and that way they would not have had my mom as their patient. I was referred to CHD Dental from a old friend years ago but didn't think about trying them out because who likes change? So I stayed with my old dentist. He was great and i loved the staff so it was a win-win . Excellent care and the staff was perfect very personable we got along great. Things changed So I decided time for a change . I needed a good periodontist and hygienist and was referred by my insurance company to CHD dental. I had my first appointment about 4 weeks ago and they were very detailed about the care that I needed . They went to great detail exactly what they were going to do about my periodontal care the aftercare along with fees . They work amazingly with my insurance company and went out of their way to make sure things will go smoothly . today they did the second part of my deep cleaning as we all know that has to be done in two parts . ​ the hygienist was very careful and the way she cared for my treatment and made sure there's no discomfort whatsoever. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go back for periodontal care as I need gum surgery which I am not looking forward to. But it has to be done. I genuinely could not have asked for a more positive experience getting my wisdom teeth extracted. My oral surgeon Dr. Keuroghlian was so incredible, and did all 4 of my extractions in, I kid you not, 22 minutes. He checked on me frequently, communicated so wonderfully with me the entire time, and was SO quick! With the local anesthesia, I felt absolutely NOTHING. Everybody at this office is so wonderful and helpful. Patrick, at the front desk, is so helpful and answers all my questions and is ALWAYS so kind. Melanie did my x-rays, and she did everything to make sure I was comfortable and that the x-rays were quick and as painless as she could make them! She was also SUCH an angel, so fun to talk to, so professional, and she really took such good care of me. Well, I went to different places but this one is the best from the rest. Sometimes a little careless but still gets the job done. I got a deep cleaning here about two years ago. Still remember the painful experience: 3 numbing shots on top jaw and 3 numbing shots on bottom jaw. Not to mention the deep cleaning itself. The reason for a three star and not a four star is that when they did my fillings years ago, they didn't do it correctly and one of them fell. Another reason is that when my sister went in for a cleaning, they had to pull out a tooth. The Dr. grabbed her tongue with a hook instead of her tooth. They were supposed to put in an authorization for me to get work done and never did. Told me i needed 2 root canals and 6 fillings and billed medical for a cleaning which i never had. I went to another dentist since and i dont need 2 root canals and i only need 3 fillings not 6 and dont need an authorization to get fillings.
