I have had better meals at Olive Garden... The food mediocre, the service, although kind, was absolutely awful...most especially in light of the price of the menu... The menu is complicated and not easily read... There were more people on staff than patrons in the restaurant at the time... and yet, didn't 'deliver'... The desserts, although comped, were awful, at best. This has little or nothing to do with Italy. It has everything to do with our disappointment with our dining experience. I reserved this past Sunday on Open Table for a reservation for 2 at 6 pm which was confirmed. When I arrived at the restaurant it was completely dark with a note on the front door saying it was closed that Sunday. That was bad enough until they reported to Open Table that I was a "no show." I feel like every Italian restaurant I've been to in the suburbs have all had the same mundane experiences as well as expectations. You know you won't be blown away and you know you will see the same tired dishes. My Che Figata experiences were better then most I've even had in the city! This is a hidden gem upon walking in your wow'd with a cute market off to the side with cheeses and wines pastas and all kinds of little things you can buy set up so beautifully, you have to walk around and check it out before sitting down right away! Then you see their herb wall and from that moment on just expect okay im going to get some amazing food... it's a beautiful open kitchen concept, when I went I sat at the large chef type table round over looking into the kitchen. I spent a good amount of time looking over the wine menu as well as every inch of the dinner menu! With so many awesome options it was hard to pick exactly what we wanted. To start we enjoyed the burrata with greens and mouth watering tomatoes, as well as the bone marrow appetizer and scallop appetizer. The flavors were incredible. The bone marrow dish they have taken the marrow and hollowed our bread serving it in that instead of a big bulky bone like most places do, I loved this idea, they also served this with some truffle and Sea salt, paired beautifully. The burrata was easily the best I've ever had it was so delicious and a must when you come here. Scallops were seared to perfection and presented gorgeously inside its shell on a bed of polenta topped with greens, if you're a scallop fan this is a no brainer and you must order this as well! Moving on to the main event, our entrees! It was hard for me to not get a pasta because I know it's all made in house and every dish that passed me looked mouth watering but I was very excited to try the osso bucco, very glad I did, they serve it with a Demi spook in the bone for good reason, do yourself a favor and set up for that perfect bite, a tender piece of that veal with that marrow and the creamy polenta really ties it all together I'm a smaller person but I couldn't leave any of that behind it was, in a word, PHENOMENAL. My fiancé decided on the swordfish which he had never had before and he is not a fish guy and he loved it, his exact words "that's like the a steak in the fish world" I'll take that as his special way of saying it was amazing, I had to try it and I couldn't agree more, they definitely know what they are doing over there and I'm so happy we are lucky enough to have a place like this! Extremely disappointed. Came here for a birthday dinner with my boyfriend and wish we would have gone somewhere else. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation to be told that we had to wait in the bar area. Ended up waiting a half an hour past our 7pm reserved time with no explanation beyond the host blaming people for not leaving. After finally being sat it took the wait staff over 15 minutes to properly greet us. When our food came we ordered the scallops which were amazing, a Roman pizza which was good and the cacio de Pepe which was undercooked and seized up and became cold after a few bites. The wait staff never checked back in until it was clear we were done. Overall, this place is extremely overpriced for the lack of service and the quality of food. I will not be returning. read more

I had high hopes for this new restaurant. The food was excellent but the service needs a major upgrade. Upon arrival the hostesses seemed somewhat disorganized but got us to our table. The restaurant had an attractive appearance. I'm not usually a fan of modernistic furnishing and decor but it works for Che Figata. But the service was lacking at best. For starters, while the menu had a number of dishes that looked good, I found it overly complicated and confusing, with similar dishes described on separate pages in separate categories. Our waiter was friendly enough and poetic in his descriptions of the menu items, but I think he was overworked, as he would disappear for several minutes without taking our drink orders. There were more delays until we could finally get our order in. At times he seemed confused about what we were ordering; perhaps the menu was too complicated for him as well. Or maybe he was overburdened with other tasks. When the food arrived, one person in our party ordered the papardelle bolognese bianche but received a single large meatball in red sauce. When he finally received his correct meal (long after the rest of us) he found it to be very good. My swordfish was also good if a bit dry. The others (bronzino, osso buco, and lasagne) all found their meals good but the service was so slow and haphazard that they were difficult to enjoy. Even the check seemed to take forever to process. Strangely, our waiter ended up clearing our table; is the restaurant lacking busboys? Other diners appeared to have a similar experience. It wasn't just our waiter, who was apologetic when things went wrong; the whole place seemed totally lacking in organization. The experience reminded me of "Les Freres Heureux," the fictional restaurant Frasier and Niles Crane opened in that it had every fancy item they could think of but was totally lacking in the basics such as organization of the staff and making sure orders are taken and filled properly. If only Roz had appeared covered in cherries jubilee we could have at least had a funny story to tell! read more

We recently received a gift card here amongst a bunch of gift cards that we won at a charity event. Honestly, not sure if we would've ventured here if we didn't.. but can't wait to go back! So glad that we did! Everything was AMAZING! Our server Aaron was probably hands-down one of the best servers, that is also passionate about the food, that we've had in a long time! Every suggestion that he had was completely on point and the food was absolutely delicious! Occasionally you have a manager maybe pop over, just to check in and see how your meal is and then you don't really see them ever again. Loved that the manager/owner was just as involved in every part of everyone's dining experience to make sure everything was running smooth. super impressive! Sorry they can get to a three ... maybe a four if they watch the seasoning but long way to go given their performance vis a vis pricing. Highlights were great bread, a nice Burrata and very good Tiramisu. Short rib ravioli was solid. Cauliflower salad was a neat idea with 2-3 times the dressing level it should have add. Funghi pizza had so much sweet that it drowned out the mushroom umami and then was dripping with a heavy hand of olive oil. Good ingredients should be lightly seasoned and stand on their own. You don't need to add things and even adding good ingredients makes for a unbalanced mess of a dish. A further example was the bone marrow where they had 4-5 items to put on top of their bread with marrow which drowned out any taste from the marrow. Finally to the Cacio & Pepe the pasta was cooked nicely but it swam In a sea of sauce that was salty to a point of inedibility. Truly bad. So if they halve their seasoning, work on balance and interesting menus with some good base ingredients. Three stars in reach .. four needs some real work. read more

This is my first yelp review, influenced by the poor experience we had here tonight. In all fairness, the food was fine . However: 1. The liquor is over priced. The only wine by the glass is Italian. 2 Our server had a poor command of English, and was extremely inattentive. 3. We were double charged for a glass of wine. 4. When we asked about Cacio e Pepe, a very basic yet classic Italian dish, she told us they could not make it because they were so busy on Father's Day. The restaurant was possibly half full at this time. We asked her to please ask the chef. She did, and informed us that they did not have the ingredients for cheese and pepper pasta..... we found this hard to believe and instantly doubted their authenticity. I really wanted to like Che Figata, but as an amateur chef and someone who frequents a lot of restaurants, this place misses the mark. Beginning with the bread, I personally would have preferred a more "buttery" olive oil. The acitiy of the tomatoes does not pair well with the olive oil that they pair it with. We ordered the octopus, which had a very fishy taste. The bone marrow was good, but was limited on the serving size, and for the cost was not worth it. We also ordered the pepper pasta, which was almost inedible due to the size of the peppercorn. The owner was present and the servers were very attentive, but this place has a long way to go before it is a restaurant that I would make a destination. read more

Not what it used to be. We used to like this place, but it seems to be going down hill recently. First if you're trying to grab an early drink on a Friday...you'll have to sit in the dark lounge next door. They don't open the actual restaurant until 5pm. My husband and I sat for 10 minutes before someone stopped by to take our order. The menu in the lounge is super limited. The appetizer was super small and not that good. I just stopped by to give it another try and was seated outside on the lounge side. I was right next to another couple who was enjoying wine. I waited. And waited. Sat there for 20 min. No one. Now even sure where to start. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Tiffany, our server was attentive and very helpful navigating the menu. We tried a couple of cocktails, Spritz and Bellini and loved them. For appetizers, we tried the il Misto Della Dominica which was like the most incredibly delicious beef sandwich ever and the scallops over polenta which was arguably the best thing we had all night. For dinner we ordered the pappardelle with red bolognese, Caceo e Pepe - spaghetti with romano cheese and cracked pepper, and swordfish. The pasta is perfectly cooked and both pasta dishes were heavenly. For dessert we shared the panacotta. I may never order panacotta anywhere else again. By 6pm, I was getting the picture. You should have a reservation on the weekend. People talk about fresh and interesting ingredients in their restaurants all the time, but Executive Chef and Founder Mark Grimes does it for real. It's finally open! Came for lunch and had the Figata Smash from the lunch menu and it was so delicious! It had so much flavor in the smashed meatball and was topped with caramelized onions. Just left Che Figata and we had a wonder meal. My wife and I dine out regularly and we do enjoy a good Italian restaurant. We sat at the bar and were lucky enough to meet Mark and chat with him. He is very proud of his restaurant and it shows. The food we had was delicious and all of the staff was super friendly. We moved here from the northeast a few years ago and have dined in Italian restaurants in the North End in Boston and in New York as well as here in Chicago and Che Figata and Mark and his staff really hold up against them all. read more

I lived in Italy for quite a while, so I know authentic Italian food. I've also had quite a bit of g Italian food here in the states. Che Figata's food can't be described as either of those. I was there for a work function and had a chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was still bloody on the inside!!!! If that's their standard of cooking, I don't want any part of it. Asking the waiter to fix it is pointless, because they should know how to cook chicken well enough to not have allowed it in the first place. I also had the pasta bolognese. There were way too many ingredients, and it doesn't seem that they know how to make a simple but tasty bolognese. They even had potatoes in it! Who puts potatoes in a bolognese?! If you have to add a myriad of ingredients to a dish to make it palatable, then that's just proof that you don't know real cooking. read more

They served warm bread with olive oil and red sauce & cheese which was a nice touch! The portions are generous and good size to share!
