With Patriot, communication was stellar throughout. After I submitted a quote request online, I received an email back within 24 hours with a very reasonable quote. I had a couple of questions and the rep (Allison) was great. She even suggested putting some extra information in the notes about where to do the pick-up and drop-off (something that was completely messed up by the other company). On the day of the pickup, the driver texted me to let me know exactly when he would be there (the other company messed that up too). We talked about the best place to do the pickup and he went to the place that I suggested (the other company insisted on an illegal and dangerous location even though I told them there was a safer and legal spot just around the corner). I asked the Patriot driver to give me his best estimate on the drop off date because I needed to book a flight. He told me he would text me after picking up the other the cars. And he did!!! He arrived on the date he said he would. He texted me about where he thought he could do the drop off and I was able to suggest a better location within walking distance of my house. The initial quote is just an estimate; the final price is confirmed only after they contact a real driver. You need a very flexible schedule. Drivers may commit and then no-show, or promise a morning pickup but arrive at night. You'll have to stay on top of things yourself. That said, my agent Cameron was great. When the first driver ghosted me, Cameron quickly found a second driver (though this cost me a few days). Luckily, the second driver didn't raise the price--but note: if your first driver bails, your quote is essentially void, and the next driver will either keep or increase the price; a discount is highly unlikely. Cameron even set up a Plan B and kept looking for a third driver in case the second fell through. That proactive backup planning was excellent. One caveat: Cameron works 5 AM-2 PM PT. After-hours issues are hard to resolve--my first driver scheduled a 4 PM pickup, never showed, ignored calls, and Sonic's office was closed, leaving me waiting helplessly. That was frustrating. But if you accept Sonic as a matching service and have a realistic budget, it works. I shipped my car from Woodland(95776) to Irvine(92618) in an enclosed, fully insured trailer for $800--a fair price (though far from the initial $450 estimate). Tips: Give them a timeframe (e.g., 08/01-08/07). They'll find drivers and relay quotes. Research typical rates, tell Sonic your target price, and they'll usually match it. If no driver accepts within your timeframe, your deposit is refundable. But if you cancel or reject a driver that meets your price within that window, you may lose the deposit. Would I use Sonic again? Yes, but with more schedule buffer--and I'd ask my agent to keep hunting for backup drivers until my car is physically picked up, to avoid no-show disasters.
