This place has been in San Marcos for God knows how long. I grew up in San Marcos, and never went to this bar. Don't ask me why, I just never did. I love live music and beer, just never had the want to go. We went for the last Johnny Jam that was being held. My nephew was playing with his band, and my buddy showed up with his band. The sound was perfect. Not too loud and you can hear all the instruments. Great job. They have dance floor and a full bar, the bar had a few taps, but when I got up there to ask about the taps, the staff told me that all the beer is warm and not worth it. Kinda sad, I rather enjoy a draft pint, more than a bottle beer. Parking is very limited there. I may go back again, but it depends on who is playing. read more

Disappointing Customer Service. Purchased tickets to see Triston Marez on 5/3/24. Received an email from Cheatham Warehouse on 7/25/25 that Triston Marez would not be playing at Cheatham Street Warehouse, and I could request a refund. Sent several e-mails to the contract provided for refund with no response. Called Cheatham Street Warehouse several times with no voice mail and the only option was to call back later. Showed up for the alternative show on 8/31 and told the representative checking tickets that I had e-mailed and called to try to get a refund for the change in show and he said they were bad about that, and I should talk to the manager who was not available. I pretty much felt that now one cared that I would have like to see Triston Marez, did not what to see the replacement actions and could not get a refund for no fault of my own...very frustrating. Would have been OK if the replacement bands were like Triston Marez, but that was not the case. Drove home disappointed in Cheatham Street Warehouse listening to Triston Marez. From the signs in the place, it is pretty much a drunk dive bar. Do not feel the current version of the bar is up to the history of the bar. read more

After all these years hanging around the good ol' SM, I can finally say I've lost my virginity at Cheatham Street Warehouse. Couldn't have been a finer pair of performers, either: the amazing singer/songwriter Jamie Lin Wilson and the incredible Lee Ann Womack. Ticket prices for the headliner for reserved seats were a steal at $30, although the seating itself was a bit shaky. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. They do charge $3 at present for bottled water, and one should have cash ready to avoid the $10 credit card minimum posted clearly at the registers. The acoustics were honky-tonk-perfect, but the sound levels were a bit too loud, especially before and between acts. My friend a I felt a bit deafened by it, so bringing ear plugs would be a good idea. Maybe they keep it that loud to avoid hearing trains pass on the adjacent tracks just steps away from the venue. The intermission music was a real mashup that bore no resemblance to the evening's performances. Parking is tight. Plan to get there early for a good spot, and don't be surprised if you get boxed in by anxious latecomers. Same holds true for the reserved seats inside because they are truly guaranteed general admission seats. Do I recommend it? Sure! For the right performer and the right night, it can be a fun time. read more

We purchased $160 tickets to a CONCERT for jon pardi and megan moroney and a few others. The night before the concert Megan had gotten sick and couldn't show up and there was no notification and we did not find out till we were in line at the show. The main reason we went was for Megan, so we asked to talk to a manager about a refund or a possible reimbursement and the manager refused to talk to us multiple times. Every time we tried she said " Give me one second I'll be right back" and would never come back to talk to us. The concert that was supposed to be four hours long was only two hours long and each artist only played three songs and all acoustic and keep in mind, we paid $160 for a concert not a 3 song acoustic cover from each artist. There was nothing in the description or on the website saying it was an acoustic only show everything said concert. I am never going back and the worst concert experience I have ever had. Never got a refund, basically this place is just full of false advertising and horrible management. read more

Sadly, this iconic establishment has gone by the wayside since Randy Rogers bought it. I wasted $86.00 on two GA standing-room tickets to see him this evening. First off only one of the two toilets in the women's bathroom flushed. I also cannot believe that Randy came on stage very late at 10:00 pm and sang none of his fan favorites. The sound was awful...He left the stage twice during his performance and had two unknowns take his place. Who does that!!! I approached him to tell him I have always loved him but didn't understand what was going on and that it was expensive to not get a full show from him, he waved me off very rudely and dismissed me. I immediately left, so I don't know if he got back on stage and sang any known songs. That is the absolute last penny I will ever pay to see him or go to Cheatham Street. What a rip-off and waste of time! Sad to see that he seems to have no concern for his fans and patrons and the hard-earned money spent. I truly never would have pegged him to be like that, he definitely lost me as a fan and patron tonight. btw, I wasn't the only one who felt this way. read more

It's great to know that true honky tonks still exist. Smoking is no longer allowed inside. A lot of history in this little gem. We saw the amazing band Mike and the Moonpies. If you ever have a chance to see them, treat yourself to awesome, energetic music. I would recommend this bar. read more

Pros: The venue lends itself well to more intimate performances. Drinks are reasonably priced. Cons: Heavy contingent of under 21 chain smokers. Actually, the younger crowd in general was kind of obnoxious. Not enough bartenders. The space can get crowded if the tables aren't moved out of the way. I realize San Marcos isn't subject to any sort of smoking ban, but there needs to be better ventilation or something in the bar. I got physically ill from the amount of smoke in there, and it really detracted from an incredible performance. I think the fact that the bar has become known as a place for Texas Country artists is spectacular, and I tend to prefer smaller venues. I just think that Cheatham Street Warehouse could have done a better job preparing for the performance by removing obstacles (like tables) from the dance floor. All in all, I won't be back. I'll wait for the people I want to see to stop by a venue in the San Antonio area that is better ventilated and better laid out. read more

Cheathem Street would be one of my favorite venues around, if it was less smoky. Drinks are reasonably priced. The barstaff is good. The venue is intimate and the place has a nice old honky tonk feeling about it. If I could change two things it would be to configure the chairs so there is always a small dance floor available and send the smoking outside. I will probably go to select shows here as is. It will not be a regular hangout while the smoking policy remains as is. read more

I really like this place. I know people have complained about the smoking, and while it's not my favorite, I don't think it takes away from the venue either. Cover and drink prices are reasonable. Ventilation was fine for dealing with the smoke. Service and bands were also great. I have no complaints. read more

This is a very cool venue... great place to see music and definitely Texas charm. I would give it a 5 star and probably come back often if only one thing was different. The smoking policy. There were only a handful of people smoking, but that handful was chain smoking and the place was a cloud of smoke. We love country music and we love to dance. It is very difficult to dance more than a few songs in a cloud of smoke before your lungs feel as if they might explode. Some bars are smoking bars... always have been and likely always will be, and Im ok with that, but this place feels like allowing smoking is unnecessary... catering to a few and burdening many. Making this joint smoke-free would make it a five star. read more

It's the music. This is the hallowed hall of songwriters and Texas music in general. Kent Finlay has run this wonderful little tin-sheathed shack for a long time, since the seventies, and his love of song, songwriting and real Texas music is the heart and soul of this place. Wednesday nights is songwriter's night, like church, only with songwriters and beer. Look at the website and get a feel for the history there. See the names that have played there, come up there, Stevie Ray, George Strait, Terri Hendrix, many others, and many more are growing into musical careers, as I write this little review on a Wednesday night. Lots of really good Texas music too, too many cool bands to name. I highly recommend a Wednesday night, to hear maybe fifteen different songwriters do a two song set, there's a show! And talk about variety. Ted Mack's got nothing on Kent Finlay! Who knows, maybe I'll be there singing one of my new blues songs, with some slide guitar... read more

.I love this venue, I've been here a thousand times ..But tonight I was very disappointed in the sound guy, Daniel. When I approached him about the sound levels he assured me that "this band sucks" and "they're a shitty punk band." His snide defense was that he "does this for a living"--if so, he should contribute to empowering the acts he produces. I come to Cheatham for music- definitely not the atmosphere, definitely not the variety of drinks, and absolutely not the arrogant sound guy who picks and chooses his level of professionalism around what appeals to him. I will not come back and endorse his lackadaisical approach to producing live music. read more

Terrible, I wanted only 1 drink but had to meet their 10$ minimum that wasn't communicated at all before ordering so was forced to purchase 2 drinks that I didn't even have them pour because I literally showed up for only 1 due to time constraints. I come into one of the most famous Texas/Americana beer joints in the world and find rappers and EDM Djs taking the stage. It has been one of my favorite bars to visit since I have moved to San Marcos. I have spent thousands of dollars on beer and liquor here and could not believe my eyes and ears when I walked in. Saw a great intimate eclectic night of country music there with Tom Gillam, Charlie Stout and a great female songwriter whose name escapes me (sorry). The three played their music and joked for more than 2 hours. The venue is a rundown historic warehouse steeped in history that includes the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn and George Strait. The only problem was the cover charge that wasn't indicated until I ordered my drinks and the fact that once I cashed out the cover went from the earlier stated $5 per couple to $5 each. OK, no big deal really, either way, I would have gladly paid, it just needs to be clearly stated before or as you enter so that the patron knows what he is in for. As a winter Texan I love visiting historical venues such as this, and we will come back, BUT I will be sure to find out before I order what or if there is a cover. read more

Songwriter's Night at Cheatham Street Warehouse is the best forum for seeing a broad range of talented writers. Songwriter's happens every Wednesday. Each time I go I am pleasantly surprised to hear talented singer/writers deliver remarkable music. Of course it is an open forum and not every song is going to be ear candy, but Kent Finlay, founder/owner does an outstanding job of making sure every artist is honored and that the night is really all about songwriters.
