Mike and the Moonpies at Cheatham Street
    Zane B.

It's great to know that true honky tonks still exist. Smoking is no longer allowed inside. A lot of history in this little gem. We saw the amazing band Mike and the Moonpies. If you ever have a chance to see them, treat yourself to awesome, energetic music. I would recommend this bar.

Popcorn pitcher, beer in a mason jar, good music complete with a reasonable cover, what more can one ask for?

I really like this place. I know people have complained about the smoking, and while it's not my favorite, I don't think it takes away from the venue either. Cover and drink prices are reasonable. Ventilation was fine for dealing with the smoke. Service and bands were also great. I have no complaints.

Big Fest at Cheatham warehouse! Our favorite act was the Manzy Lowry Band!!

You will not hear greasy-haired young men wearing their girlfriends' pants telling you about this place and how you've probably never heard of it because only people in the know really know about it. I can guarantee you that no one at Jack's has ever heard of Animal Collective, and nor do they care to. Jack's is a genuine Texas roadhouse. Being a Wednesday night, the crowd was small and there seemed to be a lot of regulars. The two gals working behind the bar were really friendly and stopped to talk with everyone sitting at the bar for a bit while still keeping up with people's drink orders. The atmosphere was as friendly as the bartenders, and by the end of the night everyone was joking with everyone else and pretty much just having a great time. Everyone who went up to sing karaoke was given a rousing round of applause afterwords, no matter how good or bad they might have been. People were smoking inside, but they have a lot of fans going and the ceilings are relatively high, so the air didn't seem that smoky. The decor inside kind of defies description, but let's just say that there were a whole bunch of bras and thongs glued to the ceiling above the bar and no explanation was offered as to why, though I didn't ask. I'll have to ask next time. After one visit, this place has become my favorite bar in San Marcos. I will definitely be going back. I might even eventually muster up the courage to sing at karaoke night.

It includes a 400-seat auditorium, the Patti Strickel Harrison Theatre, where we saw the inaugural performance of the musical, Anything Goes, this weekend. Clearly outstanding, Broadway-worthy productions such as this deserve this professional venue. Not only is it equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it's architecturally beautiful and comfortable for patrons. Our seats were on the floor level, but the wrap-around balcony is positioned so there isn't a bad seat in the house. It's an intimate setting, which is nice for connecting with the live shows, but it also means the shows sell out. Buy your tickets in advance online rather than driving out and chancing getting one at the door. Tickets for this performance ranged $15-$18, for a total of $20 with the purchase fees. Such a deal that I'll have no problem making the drive from Austin often with family and friends. Texas State Students get in for $8. Right across the street is the Edward Gary Street Garage, built in tandem with the PAC to allow for easy parking. We paid $5 flat rate. The PAC also houses a 300-seat recital hall, rehearsal and classroom space, so there's a lot more going on in that building than the shows. No wonder their programs are becoming nationally known.

The outside isn't exactly glamorous and I made double sure to lock my doors before entering. The place inside is exactly what one would think it would be like before entering. I'm about to get brutal so apologies in advance but the "devil is in the details." First I believe the younger, college age crowd sticks closer to downtown San Marcos. As my friend would say "there's no talent here." I'm not exactly propping myself up as some model, but most people here are calorie infused and starting about 35 years and up. In other words, it's a dive bar. Now before I let this go, all the people here were very nice and just wanting to have a good time. That means I felt safe. The staff were ok. I like the festive and cheap drinks so that's a bonus however I'm not sure how fast they are for serving if there's a crowd. When I was there it wasn't exactly populated. As for food I didn't order any so I can't be of assistance. Now, they do have a lot of large TVs and pool tables to keep one entertained. A word of advice, don't look up as the tiles look like they're holding back the mold. I'm not saying I Don't Know is horrible, I think they're just who they are. Since reviews can be factual yet subjective it's important to note we all enjoy different aspects of life. This place didn't jive with me so I won't be back. If it's close to you, I encourage you to stop by as it might be what you're looking for.

The parking is very limited some spots in the parking lot, more on the street around the area. The place is small, but the sound was great. Small stage, but big enough for a 5 piece band. I really enjoyed the out door patio area. Plenty of space to move around. A gas fire pit. Some spots to play games. I got to sit outside and smoke a cigar. The bathrooms were clean, but no paper towels inside. Now, to the bar. Had to wait for 15 minutes to get a drink. I asked what they had on tap, and out of 8 taps, only one had a keg. So I asked for an IPA, and they told me they only had uncle dunkle, was the only IPA. I rollED my eyes, cause that wasn't an IPA. They didn't have any mint, so I couldn't get a mojito for Maria. They could make a margarita for her. While I was waiting for my drinks, there was a lady waiting for her food, she said that she has been waiting 30 minutes. While the band was playing, I got me two more beers, cause the bartenders were pretty busy. After a while I noticed the lady come back to bar looking for her food. By this time it had been well over an hour. She was told that they gave her order to someone else. Waiting for service here was the worst. Then not having stuff to make drinks.
