I just wanted to cash my check. Smith's couldn't do it -my employer has some issues with money I guess but they still asked me to sign it. So I went to Check City because they have always been able to. As soon as I got there, the lady Odessy was super rude. She grabbed my check and said, "oh, IT'S SIGNED," with attitude and looking at me like I was retarded. I explained the situation and asked if they could still cash it, and she acted like I was lying and even asked me if I had a receipt from Smith's to prove it. Mind you, I've been cashing with this company for over a year, they have my picture, my account, everything. She still made it seem like it wasn't me, asked for my phone number, which the other location don't do because it's already in the system with my PICTURE, and finally for my ID and kept asking for the manager because she couldn't do her job I suppose, whispering and hiding in the back with her. The whole thing took forever. Then she asked me " are you a bad night" after giving me nothing but attitude and her stink look, slid me the money without a thank you, and didn't even say bye. Other Check City locations are way faster and treat you with kindness and respect, this one just made me feel like I owe her something. read more

I used to use Check City a lot but not for awhile. I needed a money order and accidentally drove to Moneytree. Before entering, i realized if i went to Check city that it would be free. I asked Google if check city had free money orders and she said whatever was on the internet (which was "yes, free money orders"). I drove to the nearest check city, waited in line about 5 minutes (reasonable wait time) and then i was informed i needed to pay $0.59 for a money order. Dismayed, i said that i thought they were free and Kayla (employee) said not since June. I had the money but was slightly annoyed because i was thinking that check city had a marketing advantage over moneytree due to CC's free money orders but now that edge is lost for CC. Check City has lost my loyalty. I mentioned to Kayla that the website said free MO's and she replied "it says a lot of things right now". I'm not sure what she was saying but it sounded like she felt you couldn't rely on the CC website for accurate information. Additionally, Kayla wasn't the ray of sunshine i would've enjoyed in a customer service employee but i was nice to her because maybe her job sucks. Three stars for the interest rate! Ouch! But the original girl (Wish I had her name) that helped me was so nice and sweet when I got my loan last month that I give her five stars. She was younger with longer blond hair. I had an emergency surgery on one of my dogs and this was the quickest way to get help. I know she was just doing her job but she also had empathy which is hard to find in people. I was distraught over my dog and she cared and asked questions. I did make her look at his picture to. The loan office is clean, plenty of parking and when they gave me the cash last month they counted it out in the back in private due to the amount. I hope my dog is enjoying his $4000 (included interest) rebuilt knee. I would do it for any of them. read more

Needing to get my money in check, I rolled into Check City to open up a Pre-Paid debit card. Long story short: I had problems activating it. At my ropes end with COVID putting me on furlough and the world so crazy now - I had all but lost my mind over the matter. Then I called Check City and Krysle answered. That statement was a mic drop to all my problems. Seriously though, she listened, she calmed me and when I went back she resolved my problem. Came in with a issue regarding an extra payment they took out of my bank and also they sent me to a debt department within 1 week, And I wasn't even behind on payments, the lady that was helping me was trying her hardest to figure out what was wrong. By far the WORST check city ever! 7 people in line all squished by the door area and 3 check city employees behind the desk & only 1 check city employee helping customers! Standing here for over 30 minutes EVEN though the other 3 employees make eye contact with the customers but not helping the customers. Be very cautious if you ever come to this one. Believe it or not, i have recieved counterfit money from them! I cashed a 1000 dollar check and got 500 dollars back in fake 100 dollar bills. I did not realize that the money was counterfeit until the next day when I tried to put in gas using a hundred. I didn't believe it myself until the clerk showed me in the right hand side was Abraham Lincoln when shown in the light instead of the face of Benjamin Franklin as a proof mark. I immediately went back and told them and they informed me that there was nothing they could do as I have already walked out of the store and there was no way in knowing whether or not I switched the bills myself. I was furious and felt victimized. I tried to contact management and whoever I could within the company and have never received a call back or any type of compensation or even an investigation. I went to receive money thru western union that my family sent me. I walked in and was greeted by a staff member and asked her for a pen she immediately said they were not cashing western union orders and I asked if it was a certain amount they would she looked too her manager and said no. So instead of me knowing before walking in I had to deal with the issue of being told no for a service they off let and their system was not down. They are just being lazy but my whole issue was just put a note on the door. It's the holiday season why not do what you offer. I'm not a fan of having to drive around and waste gas cause you guys are lazy and then she had nerve to ask if I wanted too put the money on my Netspend card for $2 fee so not only are you not willing to do what your offer is but want me too spend money with your establishment. All I can say is that Check City is SHADY. They tried STRONG ARMING me into getting a new NetSpend card through them this morning. They charged me an additional $1.95 on top of their existing $2 load fee because I didn't get my NetSpend card from them. The teller explained that "as a service" to me I could get a new NetSpend card at no cost, aside from the $10 I had to put on the card, and I would only be charged the $2 from now on because I would be getting the card from Check City. I have been going to this same location for years and loading my card for $2. Never Again. I will NEVER do business with these extortionists ever again. They obviously get a big $$$ bonus from NetSpend for new signups and STRONG ARMING their customer base is how they're trying to do it. I guess it goes without saying that a greed based predatory loanshark company like Check City would resort to strong arming to add to greed base. SHAME ON YOU, Check City. So I have a mixed review, I have recently started going to this check city and was very pleased with the younger tellers working here they were always very helpful, very friendly, and always get me in and out quickly. I go into check city for a variety of reasons and since i usually dont get off until 3am sometimes this location is very convenient. However I am writing today because I have recently had a very annoying experience with an older lady that works on the late night shift. This older lady was rude and I did not appreciate her seemingly irritated disposition with me. I simply asked her to explain the loan process with me as I had never taken one out (I usually only do check cashing and money orders) she huffed and puffed and told me I didn't have everything I needed and that I couldn't take out a loan that I would have to come back in the morning. That would have been fine if her demeanor was not so horrible. She smacked the counter when I said I didn't understand and then proceeded to tell me the same thing just speaking slower. I would have given a 1 star however the other 2 girls that work the late night shift are great and I hope that when u go into check city you get those two young ladies because they know how to treat customers. read more
