Ive had some really good drivers from checker. The other day though my girlfriend needed a ride to westbrook mall and we dont live to far away. Walking distance for most. When she told him westbrook he looked at her and said "seriously? Only westbrook?" oh and my girlfriend is noticeably pregnant. Id like to see him carry a baby and walk in the cold windy calgary winter and not call for a ride. What theyre paid to do. He shouldnt have complained about how short the drive is. Last night I got a cab from downtown to my house. The 15% tip button wouldn't work on the machine, so the cab driver grabbed the machine and my card and generously tipped himself 25%. I accidentally left my license, debit card, and bus pass on the seat when I was paying. I realized what I had done after I got out of the cab and tried to get his attention to get my things back. He sped past me without stopping and didn't turn any of my stuff in to the lost and found. read more

There are not too many choices in Calgary when it comes to taking a cab... but if I can safe one person by writing this review, i'll be more than glad...I really don't lake to post negative reviews, but any business witch checkers turned out to be a disaster for me... when its busy, they will not take your call,(three dispatchers only!) u gonna be on hold for forever n finally when u book the taxi, don't be surprised if it will not show up at all.... they left me like that on Saturday nite, at NW, no public transport available at that time... had to call my friends and arrange something... next time again I was so so late for my appointment because they sent the cab to the wrong address... I gave them few calls while waiting, but no one took it seriously, they where like: no, the cab will be there shortly... And after 30 min(exactly 30 min!) the called me that they've sent it to the wrong place... Garbage, I will never take the checker yellow again, associates r way more reliable :( read more

Got a cab this past Saturday night during stampede in Calgary. This was the third one we attempted to get in to and the only one who agreed to take us through the drive-thru on our way home (oh late-night McDonalds...) The cab number was 701 and the man driving was very pleasant. He explained that turning down a fair is illegal and the previous two cabs (one, unfortunately, was also Checker) had broken that law. I use this company all the time and don't always have this great of an experience, but here's to you 701! Thanks again for a great ride. read more

I have not taken a cab in Calgary for 20 yrs do a 5:20 am pick up worried me. But my cab was on time ( even a min early) it was very clean. The driver was polite and as I was not very chatty neither was I. Very positive experience. Don't complain people. I liked that I could book in advance. Can't do that with Uber read more

I flew in from Houston and used Checker Cab many times due to how many cabs there were in the city. I heard they had about 850 cabs so I downloaded their app. Fast service with the APP and I enjoyed the suits and happy drivers! I will recommend to everyone coming from the Houston area for Gas and oil...or the stampede. I heard it is a trip from the driver. read more

Really outrage that I have to pay 70$ because the cab driver did not know where to go. Checkers cab always disappoint. Horrible service.

When in using taxi's in Calgary I always use Checker. Their drivers are know the city quite well and always have clean vehicles. I would definitly recommend Checker Taxi. read more

I have only used this company twice and both times I have had bad experiences. The first time, I was calling for a 5 person cab for a ride into downtown. When I called the first time I was given attitude straight away as a 5 person vechile is 'difficult to get' (well why advertise that you offer this service, then?!) I called well in advance as we had dinner reservations. When the taxi didn't arrive at the arranged time I called and was told tht I hadn't yet been assigned a vechile! I was then told I would have to wait up to an hour, which meant me having to push back our reservation. After an hour when they still hadn't arrived I had to call again, and 10 minutes later one finally arrived. We ended up at dinner over an hour late. We then used this company a few days later (not out of choice!), as one was booked for us by the place we ate at and it happened to be through the same company. Again, it took a long time to arrive. When it finally came, we started telling the driver the address and he told us he knew where we were going. The whole way the driver was basically telling us all of his racist views and how much he hated Asians, Indians and Americans. We were appalled and just stopped acknowledging him after we realised he was a complete bigot. Then, we got to the area of our address and he began telling us he didn't know where he was going because we hadn't given him an exact address, despite telling us at the start of the journey that he didn't need one. This caused us to get really lost and of course we were charged for this time. We finally got there through us directing him and even then he didn't follow those and wouldn't drop us where we needed to get out, he instead dropped us at the other end of the road. We obviously didn't tip him and he seemed genuinely surprised. After these two experiences we will never EVER use this company again and will tell everybody we know to avoid it like the plague. I don't know how some of those drivers get their class 4 license. One driver was being very rude to me, when he suddenly parked his cab, and blocked the driveway where my vehicle was parked, because he started honking at me. The client was already in the vehicle, and I kept on reversing my vehicle, to make him he was blocking my vehicle. When I asked him to move his vehicle, he refused to move it, and tells me to back out first. I only had a few inches on each side to get out, and then he starts yelling at me to stay here, assuming that I could not move my vehicle, and he already was wasting my time, and being a real a_ _hole! I have my class 2 driver's license, and know that he was clearly in the wrong. Firstly, his vehicle was illegally parked behind a driveway. Secondly, his vehicle was parked illegally in a driving lane, and his vehicle did not have any flashers on. He was lucky no one ran into his parked vehicle! read more

We called for a cab 4 hours before we needed it and it still didn't arrive on time. We had a very important vet visit to go to and because the cab was so late we had to reschedule. Seems to me that you call four hours in advance and quote a time they should strive to make it. read more

Few times they never showed up!!! Lately I needed a pet-friendly taxi and receptionist said it should be 20 to 40 minute, however, no 1.5 later cab was not sent to us. Driver showed up 2.5 hours later! That is not acceptable. We missed our appointment with the vet. read more

i called checker today to see if i could bring my bottles in, right when i asked the guy ( mike), he proceeded to say no we dont, and hung up before i could even say ok thank you.. so rude!!!!! plus when you tip the cab drivers, i have noticed if its not atleast 5 dollors they give you so much attitude. I don't have to give them any, its there job to drive people around!! ughhh so not only is customer service rude so are some of the drivers. read more

This is the WORST cab company I have ever used in my life. Booked ahead of time to make an early flight...which I missed because the driver showed up late. Cost me another $80 to change my ticket plus the $70 for the cab fare. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. Associated cab isn't the best but they're ALWAYS ON TIME!!! I made the mistake of trying something new this week. I'll be calling a SEDAN to the airport from now on. About $20 more than a taxi but not $80 or $100 to re-book my ticket and they're usually 15 minutes EARLY! Don't make the same mistake I did...USE SOMEONE ELSE. read more

one of the worst cabs i have ever been in. cab driver picked me up, drove me home just to realize i left my purse at the place he picked me up, I've never been yelled at so badly from a driver. he forced me to walk around my complex at 1:30am begging people for money, he grabbed my cell phone out of my hands then drove off, leaving me stranded without entry into my apartment, no money, no keys, AND no cell phone. thanks for the worst, most humiliating night of my life. read more

I had called a cab and I was told 5-20 mins. I stood at the front door waiting with my shoes on and watching through the glass door. At about 20 mins someone came to the door and it was the cab driver who berated me saying he has been waiting for 10 mins. I had been waiting the entire time and didn't even see him because he was parked on the other side of the garage and I cant see the other side of the front lawn because there is a garage in the way! The first 5 minutes of the ride he kept saying how he was waiting and was assigned a new drive because I didn't pick up the calls. I showed him my phone and the last call on my phone was my call to THEM! He said he called twice. He then told me that he had to cancel his next drive because I was there. Really professional. It put me in a terrible mood but I forgot about it until I got to my destination, which was brunch with my girlfriend. She gets out of her cab and apologizes to me for being late and explains to me that she was waiting for her cab and after 40 mins of waiting she called them again asking where the cab was and the operator berated her as well for a cab being there for 20 minutes and leaving because she wasnt there. She was in a condo. They took her buzzer and phone number but never even called to say they had arrived. Of course we both laughed about it but I found this company extremely rude and unprofessional and I will never use them again read more

im writing this review while being driven to my work by a checker cab driver. he is just driving waaaaaay slower than my grandma and I asked him if he could drive a little bit faster (50 on an 80 km zone!) then he got mad and explaining me the road rules. felicia puhlease!! and I tried their app. I was waiting on a bus stop in country hills for 46 mins! I uninstalled it and just called associated cab which by the way cam to pick me up within 5 minutes!.. you can suck it checker cab! read more

I have given Checker Cabs multiple chances to prove that they are a decent cab company. Unfortunately, they have failed myself as well as a few family members and friends of mine. I have witnessed their drivers verbally abusing their customers, driving wrecklessly (one time my cab driver fell asleep during a daytime fare!), and offering inconsistent rate quotes. Recently I took a Checker cab all the way from the Northwest to way down into the Southeast. Upon arriving at my destination, while rifling through my purse to find my Visa, my phone fell onto the seat. Unfortunately I left the cab without remembering to grab my phone. I called Checker repeatedly throughout the following weeks in attempts to locate my phone. I even had a transaction number, the cab car number, and the driver's badge number yet they did nothing to help me. Whether they did not care or the driver stole my phone, I will never rely on this company again. Their dishonest service is unacceptable and I do not recommend Checkers to anyone. Based on personal experience and word of mouth, Associated cab has so far offered the best service in the Calgary area. read more

Sooooo I'm from BC, coming to Calgary was seeing family and friends was nice how ever- getting ripped off on every single ride I take, was not!! Example- last night I was ordered to pay 32$ (even though the ride the last 5 times was only 20) he decided to take a different way- how ever he made me get out at a busy intersection with cars honking at him etc.. So not only did he take some way that would charge more, he never even dropped me at my destination! It took me an extra 20 min to get there!! Every single time I've dealt with these people (business) cost me nothin but frustration and depending who's driving you cost a lot of extra money! I had a chairty event to go to at the hospital,, guess where they dropped me off? The stampede grounds an told me if I wanted to argue he would call the police? So I got out and had to order another cab for no reason? Long story short if you can pay a friend to drive you or if you can even drive your self don't fall victim to these con artist. I have 3 more horror stories with this ridiculous company and won't be spending a dime with them ever again. Be aware if you deal with this shady cab company. Not even worth a star. read more
