Poor communication through out this particular service. Was there for an oil change. They send you a video showing all is good so you figure after 3 and 1/2 hrs you're ready to be on your way. Then they inform you that your oil pan needs replacing (no video for that) and it would need ordering. Then they print out what else needs fixed. All the recommendations were completed by Lexus less than a year ago in a car I hardly drive. When asked if their tech actually saw the issues you don't get a straight answer. Makes you wonder the knowledge of their techs or are they trying to get you to have more service done unnecessarily with no real checking? Had to return the following day (part on order) after I made many calls asking for the service manager's name and tried calling the parts dept. A recording for parts dept stated no one available all day?? Given no name of manager even after asking. Spent a total of $1100 and wait time 5 hours and still had to return the following day to pick up. Then the dealership asks you to contact them if any issues? Won't waste my time as I tried to get answers for 2 days. read more

I dropped my vehicle off to have the GPS/telephone/etc. system checked out because it was not working. While in their shop they determined that there were a number of other issues that needed to be addressed at a cost of $1800. I went to Checkered Glag to pick up my vehicle this morning and the GPS/telephone/etc system was still not working. They said their technician was unable to duplicate the problem. This was total "BS" because the vehicle was parked in front of their shop and the system was not working. read more

Bought a new 2024 Toyota Corolla LE here on 2 miles on September 7, 2024. A sincere thanks to Peter and Sarah who helped me through the process back then. A $500.00 deposit was required to secure the new vehicle while it was in transit on the way to the site. I did buy Checkered Flag Vehicle Service Contract at "Platinum Coverage" which was roughly an additional $3,000 added to the price tag for peace of mind. Besides waiting, did not really experience any negative issues throughout the buying process. When the vehicle arrived, I did not see any transit damage and it drove very well with no issues. All in all, at the end of the day, I was a satisfied customer there. Although the price was higher than desired, it is understandable for them to make money somehow. read more

My daughter was shopping for a new car, so we started here at Checkered Flag. When we got there she already knew what she wanted. The car salesman had her test drive the car within 10 minutes of arriving. Alot of the cars there were hybrids. Which seems nice, but the batteries on hybrid cars are expensive to replace. For the Corolla it's about $6000. So I talked her out of it. It sounds great until you need one. There was only one car available with what she was looking for. They did have the option to build your car and wait a few weeks for it to be delivered. The salesman was nice, and it wasn't a haggling situation. He told us the price is the price, no negotiations. Which put us at ease. The sales aren't commission based, so we didn't feel pressured. The cars come with "free" oil changes and inspections. There are different packages like adding a clear coat to your car, an extended warranty for the engine and transmission, and coverage for dings. We went inside to do the paperwork. The inside is clean with a seating area that has a TV, and free coffee and water. In the past buying a car has taken 4-6 hours at other dealerships. But he had us in and out in about 3 hours. The transaction was pretty smooth. They cleaned the car up and filled it with gas, and we were on our way. I do wish we could have negotiated a 5-10% discount, but my daughter wasn't as pressed as I was. If you're military they offer some rebates. The Toyota's seem very reliable, good on gas, and trendy. The Highlander and Camry were really nice inside and out. If I purchase another car, I'd come back. Check them out!!! read more

***THIEF EMPLOYEE*** I took my car to Checkered Flag Toyota for a simple service appointment, and before handing over my keys, I specifically checked the entire vehicle, including the center console where I had cash stored. When the service was finished and they gave my keys back, the money was gone. Someone inside that service department clearly stole from my vehicle, and instead of taking accountability or conducting a serious investigation, management acted like it was no big deal and seemed more interested in protecting their employees. The manager even handed me the amount of money that was stolen as if that somehow solved the issue. No, it does not solve the issue -- the fact that there is apparently a thief working there and management is willing to cover for it is completely unacceptable. It is shocking that a dealership representing a major brand operates with this level of dishonesty and lack of integrity. Customers should not have to worry about their belongings being stolen while their car is supposedly being serviced. I am beyond angry and disappointed with how this situation was handled. read more

I purcheased a 2025 Camry and let my remote for my garage door in my trade-in. Since I was going out of town, I called the dearlership and asked if they could mail it to me. Once I actually got on the phone with someone they were extremely short with me but said they would. I made sure they had my address. I still have not received it and cannot get in touch with an actual person to see what is going on. I will never deal with Checkered Flag again. I am normally apprehensive about Checkered Flag service departments due to poor customer service and questionable technical skills. However, this specific visit for a service and troubleshooting of a technical issue was a success. Excellent customer service from Jade and solid technical backup by Scotty. Update: I had a pleasant experience with my service advisor, and this isn't her fault...but the shuttle not being an available transportation option anymore is extremely frustrating, especially because you have to pay for a rental out of pocket. I was told by several people the wait time for my car would be end of day the next day, so I used the rental service. (Previously, I would have taken the shuttle and had someone drive me back.) My service ended up being done in one and a half hours. Great! But if I had known this, I would not have rented a car. On top of this, I was told that the shuttle service IS still running, despite it not being an option on the website AND being told at my appointment a couple of months ago that it was not an option anymore. My husband took his brand new tundra in to Checkered Flag Toyota for its first service. Truck was returned to him with loose nut logs and wheels that were not aligned. Every wheel had something wrong with it. Service manager offered to fill up his gas tank for his troubles. He asked to speak to the general manager, manager was gone for the day (appointment was at 1:45pm). General manager was supposed to call him and never did, it has been a week since this appointment and the most Checkered Flag Toyota has done is reply to my husbands review of the business with a "we acknowledge your review". Returning a vehicle with loose tire is not only unacceptable, and on top of that, there is no regard towards the customers safety. Extremely dissatisfied with service AND dealership management. I'll start this review by saying this is the worst time to buy a car, but let's face it, it's not a good time to buy anything right now! With shortages of anything and everything from disinfecting wipes to houses, computer chips for cars are yet another item on this long list of shortages. My trusty Mazda was still going strong and had been reliable for the past 10 years. I wasn't planning to purchase a car anytime soon, especially during these crazy times, but that all changed a few months ago when I got into a car accident and the car was totaled. I started calling around and even submitted an inquiry for the Costco auto buying program (brace yourself if you do this, because your phone will start buzzing non stop and your inbox flooded, but my bad. I should have expected that). Once I got over the barrage of calls and emails, I decided to call Checkered Flag Toyota (CFT) (because what's one more dealership lol) since they didn't come up in the list of participating dealerships. James McKee is your guy! Out of all the places that I called including the Costco Auto Program participants, CFT & James seemed to be the only ones that seemed genuinely interested in helping me find the car I was looking for. Also, most competitive in pricing. CFT has a different pricing model, what they call a no haggle policy. The price is the price and there is no negotiating. They offer you the best price and sales people are on a different commission structure than the traditional dealerships so they are really not driven to push sales of higher price tags. I compared quotes from different dealerships and I'm not talking a couple hundred dollar difference. Due to the current state of the market and shortages, it took almost 3 months to finally get my car (partially because I was waiting for the 2022s . It arrived last week!!!! Eeeeeek, so excited! Things to note: *Initially, I was considering buying a used car, but prices are so high that a 1-2 yr old car for the same model is almost the same price as a new one. This means, this is the best time to trade in your car, dealerships will give you top dollar. *If you want a new car, 2022s of any model, you'll most likely have to put down a deposit to secure yourself a car. All cars that usually arrive these days already have someone's name on it. Don't worry though, you have 48hrs to decide whether you like it mor not and if you change your mind, they refund your deposit. *They offer a military discount *Check for Toyota manufacturers rebates *If you finance with them, you could qualify for the-rebate for that too. Absolutely horrible service department with increasing wait times and zero process improvement. Checked in 20 min early and was told two hours for a tire rotation with a waiting appointment. When queried, the service manager's response was "It takes two hours to get your vehicle into the shop after that I can't guarantee time". If two hours is the metric or standard by which you are measuring entry into the shop, you're measuring the wrong thing and your performance/effectiveness shows and struggles because of it. After the body shop gave me new paint damage during their repair process of my vehicle I gave a 1 star review on here. The GM Bryan emailed me and asked me to take down my review because this page doesn't include the body shop, I guess? I took down that review, but the body shop told me to go to the parts department and buy a touch up pen for the scratch they put in my door with a tool (very deep thin cut like it was made with a cutting tool). Anyway, I went to the parts department and asked to order Magnetic Gray touch up paint for my 2019 Rav4. They said they would look it up by the VIN. I gave them the VIN and they ordered it and I verified back to them "magnetic gray, right?", and they said yes. I went to pick it up today and it doesn't say a color on the container, just numbers and letters. Imagine my surprise when I opened the container and it was black paint. Bryan-your parts department is also lacking. Checkered Flag just can't get their act together. Zero stars if I could. read more

We had a great buying experience at Checkered Flag Toyota, just as we have had previously at their VW and Honda dealerships. Their pricing is fair, clear and up front, with no games or pressure. Even in this time of new car shortages, no surcharges have been added to MSRPs as some dealerships are doing. We were able to secure an incoming car for a modest $500 deposit and our salesman, Danny, did a great job keeping us informed on its progress as we waited a couple weeks for it to arrive. Once it did, they were able to beat our credit union's interest rate for financing. They also gave us an excellent price for our trade in, $1700 OVER the online Carvana quote we received before going in. If you don't know why it's poor customer service to help 3+ people before someone who is clearly waiting to be helped you need a brain scan and psychological evaluation because clearly the elevator isn't reaching the top floor. What's crazy is that I spent my hard earned money here only for these individuals to act like I was being a bother by asking about car rental. I was then asked ten thousand questions as if I was scamming and observed others were not. I am disgusted. I have been here many times before but I have never experienced this. I'm very put off. So, an update. I put a Yelp review on them about this and received a response from the general manager. He asked me to address this directly with his management team. I sent an email to as many folks I could figure might be members of that team and received another email from the manager stating that they had been trying to contact me since this happened. One of the reasons they couldn't was that the invoice only said the generic "Preferred Customer" and had no identifying contact info. Anyway, the parts manager called me within minutes of me providing the info. He apologized several times and said there should have been some reasonableness dialed into the return. Bottom line - The dealership is going to be refunding the full amount. Restocking fee removed. Many of you were spot on with your recommendations to contact the manager in a civil manner. I purchased my 2020 RAV4 from them brand new with lifetime warranty state inspections and oil changes I moved to Kentucky as my parents are getting older and asked if I could still get free oil changes and I was told yes as long as it was a Toyota dealership well I scheduled my 10000 mile oil change was coming up so I went and got a oil change. Upon completion I went to the window and I was told that I owed around $65 so I mentioned that and talked with the advisor at Bowling Green Toyota in Bowling Green , Ky and she said that I could call but she didn't see anything after running my vin number. I had to call for around 30 minutes and got a call back saying that this was only good at the dealership that I bought this from. Not a sorry that I was informed wrong and when I purchased it that was never mentioned that it was only for that dealership just said I had lifetime oil changes and state inspections. This is not about the money but it's about principle. Google said it is usually dealership specific so my fault for assuming. They Google) said it was like this to encourage repeat customers. Great customer service! Blew a tire nearby , called checkered flag to see if they could fix the tire and look at the others ...almost end of the work day for them. They told me to come right in ..safety issue. No appointment... checked out all my tires ...explained the age of them and recommended replacement... tires were over 4 years old. They didn't try to up sell me ...the tires they recommended were cheaper than the brand I had on my suv .. Got my appointment at 7am right when they open cause I figured I would get done faster. Toby took care of me and he was very helpful and pleasant. I have been here without an appointment previously with great, immediate, walk-in service from Jade. She set up a complimentary car that took me home and picked me back up when my car was finished. 5/5 The most recent time I've gone, I did another walk-in, this time for an inspection. It failed because it needed a lightbulb replaced- no biggie. Damon was a great help and gave me a price and day to come back for the ordered bulb. He was also super helpful in getting me a Lyft before closing since the inspection took awhile, again 5/5. I came back a few days later and Damon wasn't there but someone else was happy to help. They also tried to charge me more than what the original estimate was for the bulb, I told them that Damon gave me a lower estimate when I came in last and they said oh I see now. They fixed the price but I question why the price may have changed in a few days and what would have happened if I didn't mention the lower estimate from my previous trip here. Although in my case I rescued a few bucks, I would keep in mind your price estimates if you have to come back another day for any reason especially for big ticket items. Suspici0us/5 Every time I have accepted the complimentary car wash. Unfortunately, I learned that they did not wipe off the wax correctly the most recent time. How do I know? Even dropping our other Toyota off for maintenance at their service center. Once arrived I told the sales rep I'd be over in a second as I was waiting for their service employees to take my other car (30 min). While waiting for the service folks to take my car, a guy walked in and wanted to test drive the TRD PRO I had spoken for and was there already to buy outright. They then told me HE had priority to buy the vehicle. Absolutely ludicrous! They even told me it was my fault for not buying it the day before. The salesmen here are very nice, very helpful and not pushy at all. My son did not get a Toyota even though he was so close to getting one. I've have had highs and lows with the service department over the past three years. I also purchased a new vehicle in the Spring. In many respects they continue to earn my business back. I refused to write a negative review even when I probably should have a couple years ago. However, in good conscious I can no longer leave Checkered Flag at a 5. Out with the old and in with the new. A turnover of staff and training new mechanics with the expansion of services is the culprit of my dissatisfaction. My previous service advisor Michele who I loved was one of the victims. I have seen them dig out of the lows and show me much better consistency on service this year. Wait times if remaining with the car and an appointment are still too high. This includes minimal service of an oil change, or even tire rotation. There shuttle will round trip you and has been a solid choice a few times. So what's the positive spin and the reason I still recommend? Several reasons and the primary is I trust them to do what's right. I had lost trust and confidence for too long, but remained a die hard loyal customer. My new service advisor Allie has been spectacular in every way. Friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable. She makes me feel like we're family. The shop foreman Scotty has also been wonderful and is luckily a hold over that had been a friend for years. Lead mechanic William has also been involved in turning around a negative issue to a positive. Communication has also been greatly improved when in the shop. But work still remains when calling in and having no one answer at peak times. The online scheduling of service is great, but the personal attention is lost when wanting to do over the phone. I will also include a new car purchase experience by salesman Tony. The no hassle way they now do business is appreciated. The price they provided is the price, no negotiation. If you like that approach fantastic! It allows for the dealership to get their profit and the customer to not waste a day. Total time for the transaction with finance person was a little over two hours. Overall experience was above average with an issue of detail department and stated inspection sticker that delayed our departure. Josh a manager handled it quickly, apologized and extended an offer for a full detail at a later date. He also followed up with a call a few weeks later. So in a nutshell I'm still mixed on A OK and above average rating and recommending. The trend is strong enough over the past six months that I am rounding a 3.5 to a 4 and continue to recommend. Paying more for a factory service is not a reason to necessarily score them low. Shop prices went up again just this Summer. It's the trust in Toyota and Checkered Flag that keeps me coming back for my 12th year. Always love the smiles and hellos from the staff as you move through the building. When it comes to service, I'm usually anti-dealer but my state inspections are "free" here. They have convenient hours, online and phone appointment scheduling, on-site rent-a-car service and a complimentary shuttle that services a 15 mile radius from the store. I've used the shuttle previously without incident but today I waited in their clean/comfortable customer lounge with 3 HDTVs, free coffee/hot chocolate, fruit and WiFi; they also had complimentary internet connected computers and charging stations outfitted for a variety of devices. I recommend Bonnie or Malik as service advisors. They're personable, thorough and most importantly don't ooze "I'm a price gouging ripoff artist." When I arrived at 725a and wished to wait, Bonnie informed me inspectors start at 8a - good info. At write up, she arranged a free car wash/vacuum and offered to install the new wiper blades I put on the passenger seat (bought from Costco) at no cost. She also promised to look at a loose rear headliner leftover from my previous visit when the dealership's manager authorized a NO CHARGE $1800 repair for a constant pinging/rattling/creaki roof noise. After 3.5 hours, Bonnie explained my car would fail for front brakes; this was a legit finding so I opted to do the work myself. She understood and didn't pass judgement, just her business card. On her own, she ordered clips to fix the previous roof issue and said I could come back when ready for installation and state re-inspection. UPDATE (1 week later): re-inspection took 2+ hours but was successful. Bonnie apologized for the wait. read more

Please be warned on how their management handles their own mistakes. This is coming from a family who has been loyal customers and purchased multiple vehicles from this dealership. My brother in law bought his truck here and after seeing how they dealt with his situation, we can no longer support this company and will be taking legal action. They sold my brother in law and numerous other people a brand new lifted Tundra that can no longer pass the state inspection because they cut part of the frame on the install. We talked to their sales manager Paul and his first suggestion was to have my brother in law do the state inspection at a different shop and they will just reimburse the cost. He said that Checkered Flag technicians cannot pass it or they can lose their license. This is a HUGE red flag and safety issue. So tell me, why would it make sense to suggest another shop to do it instead? They simply did not want to take the liability and responsibility for their mistake and tried to sweep it under the rug as much as they can. They do not care about the safety of their customers. Their general manager Josh Hamilton was also nowhere to be found and seems to have "left early" every time we came in to talk about the situation. On our last effort to resolve this before taking legal action, Josh was still nowhere to be found so we ended up with Paul once again. He was very defensive about the way they handled the situation and tried to make it seem like they are doing us a favor when he made an offer to buy the car back. When in reality, they only offered to buy the car back as a last resort because we refused to accept his BS suggestion of getting it inspected somewhere else. Since he refused to accept our offer to have the car bought back at full price that was paid, we will be taking legal action. I hope this serves as a very important warning for any current and future customers of this establishment. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change at this location. I didn't even know there was a Toyota location in Virginia Beach which was really convenient. We got there right on time and everything was super clean and the mechanics area was very innovative. Dale was our service advisor he was really kind and assured us that our car would be ready really fast. Normally it takes up to two hours but it was done before that we had gotten a free Lyft ride to the mall and were there for about 45 minutes and got a call that the car was ready. There were some extra things they recommended, but Dale gave me his honest opinion and said those things can wait a couple of months. Overall it was a really good experience and if you have a Toyota or any other vehicles really you should go there. read more

Checkered flag Toyota had a vehicle I was interested in and the price was fair. The salesman was great, friendly, knowledgeable. Here's where things get bad. Salesman asks vehicle appraiser on my trade in, if he could do an evaluation. The appraiser looks up from his desk at the salesman with obvious annoyance, and said that we need to go sit down at the salesman's desk. After that interaction I had my doubts on whether I even wanted this person in my car but I did let them give me an appraisal. Here's how it started. Introduction, still appears annoyed, asks if there is anything he would like me to tell him about the vehicle. I told him, but pretty sure all information went in one ear and out the other. He was the representative of the ugly side of the dealership, disgruntled and a chip on his shoulder. There's no magic here, courtesy out the window. He drove my vehicle and came back and said we do not want your vehicle in our inventory and our offer reflects. Here's a lowball, essentially we are going to try and steal your car, offer. It would have been better if they said this is not what we want in our inventory would you like to see paperwork without a trade in. He slides this ridiculous offer over to me and lectures me on how vehicles are valued. I am a 51 year old 26 year military vet that has experience in cars. I know what I have, you failed to do any research. It seemed like your only interaction you wanted was to get me out of the store. After he slid the offer over and said it was good for 7 days he left without saying anything and left me and the salesman looking at each other awkwardly.
