Their service center has low ratings for a reason. Twice I have gone here, if I go a third time I will definitely be a shamed fool! I took my car in to get its scheduled maintenance that I purchased via my dealership. Nicole pleasantly educates me on some sort of warranty coupons & I was only entitled to four throughout the duration of my warranty? Odd, never heard that before but ok, it should be covered, I did it all via the Hyundai website all through the warranty so I was confused as to why she was charging me for services included in my service package. IE the vehicle alignment. I have an extended warranty that covers the features on my vehicle. Here's where maybe miscommunication may have come into play? She calls to let me know that I have to pay for the dealership to "inspect" the issue, according to her, the company providing my warranty is requiring them to do a diagnostics (almost $200) BUT if the issue is covered I do not have to pay it. Welllllll....Surprise, surprise...it's not covered. I do not know what type of "diagnostics" they did but when I called my extended warranty place I was told my issue was covered, however, it is insurance & I don't think the dealership would NOT want to make money so I don't think they did anything with any erroneous or malicious intent but I am definitely taking it to another dealership for a 2nd opinion. Not only is my steering wheel warmer still broken but I am out well over $200 and then some. From reading the reviews it seems this dealership will take super care of you BEFORE you buy a vehicle but they're not too super caring AFTER you buy a vehicle. I am here to validate that! I will be taking my car to be serviced elsewhere from now on. Never had a problem coming here for my service. But this last time I came I specifically asked them to fill my coolant as it was near the minimum. Said it would be done. It didnt get done, one of the services that I needed was an oil change, so the hood should have been popped and fluids topped off as it all falls under the inspection. Every single time I have been to this dealership, the experience was terrible. First time, needed a window repair, they kept my vehicle for a week and did absolutely NOTHING and when I called to check the person on the phone was rude to me so I just told them I would pick it up and go somewhere else. The next experience was for a recall repair. I made an appointment over a month in advance and about a week before my appointment, I get an email that my appointment time has changed (the original appointment time was the only time that worked for me that day). So I call and ask why my appointment time changed without my consent and I was told that the new time was "more convenient for the dealership since they are dealing with so many warranty repairs". Let me start my review by saying I emailed the Gm who reply's to these reviews TWICE during this ordeal, never to hear back. (I saw his contact info on reply's to bad reviews and figured I would do that so I didn't have to take the time to do this) I would not recommend this shop. They had my car for nearly a month and still misdiagnosed the issue. After all that time, the problem wasn't fixed, yet they expected me to pay for a diagnostic fee even though the diagnosis was wrong. When a shop takes that long and still fails to identify the actual problem, it's unacceptable to charge the customer for it. I tried to resolve the issue respectfully, but they showed little accountability for the delay or the misdiagnosis. I was given the wrong invoice - and still had the fuse cover on the floor of my car after I had to come back to pick it up since it wasn't ready at initial time I came to pick it up. 6 hours and they couldn't put the fuse box cover back on or take the time to close me out for the correct invoice? I have to tell the truth.... I've never bought even a FAIRLY new car for myself in my whole life and I'm 46 years old. I was petrified to make this leap. But after 1000s of dollars spent with thousands to go on an '07 piece of junk, I knew it was time. I was directed to Anthony who agreed to send me text messages with links to options within my price range, because I work ridiculous hours. He was more than accommodating, sending me links late into the night per my request. I knew I wanted a car within 48 hours. (see what happens once you make up your mind LOL) I was off the next day so Anthony agreed to see me and he had the cars I specified waiting for my review. I saw the one I wanted! He quickly had someone come back it out (of the showroom, might I add!) and I took her for a spin. Within just a couple of hours, my old clunker was accepted as a minimum trade in and I was signing the contract to my first almost new BMW! I was in shock! I was so embarrassed about my clunker that I rented a car to go car shopping that weekend. I was going on 9pm and my rental was due back to the airport by 10pm. Not only did Anthony make the car buying process/experience smooth and easy, hitting my price point AND getting me something better than I thought I could get, he also offered to follow me to the airport to drop my rental off and bring me back to the dealership to get my new baby! I took my car here for years. I didn't really have any major issues although a few times I felt over charged. There was a time when charged weren't properly explained to me. One time I had to go back next day. But really that is over a ton of visits. Overall my experiences were neutral or positive. I kept coming back here because of how easy it was to schedule an appointment online. They were usually still available about 10 days out. They also have a shuttle service so I loved how easy it was to get dropped off at work or my house. Their lobby does have wifi and plenty of seating if you prefer to wait. read more

New to the area and I was definitely spoiled at my previous dealership in Pensacola. Nowhere had good reviews on Hyundai maintenance services in the area. As I was waiting in the service waiting area, I spent at least 30 minutes reading the reviews on Yelp and Google about not only this dealership but 2 other Hyundai dealerships in Hampton Roads. All good sales reviews however almost all terrible service center reviews. Generally all about the timeliness of services and lack of customer service. I am being generous in this review due to the kindness of the staff with my complaints when I was getting serviced. GM please try to fix this. Clients - please be aware when you do a "drop off" this is a "whenever they can get to you" type service. Expect it not to be done until close of business at 5pm. And don't count on shuttle service. It was not even offered to me. I found out through reading the reviews. I was instructed to drop my vehicle off at 6pm and was given a text notification of my appt the following day at 6am. They don't even open until 7am. Got a notification from Bluelink my car was opened at 8am. I got a ride to the dealership thinking my car should be done as I scheduled an oil change and possible alignment. I was explained about the "drop off service" when I realized my car was not a priority due to people leaving the waiting room who was there after me. In total I was there 4.5 hours due to me not knowing about how drop off works and they "squeezed me in" because I had been waiting. They quoted me on alignment saying I needed on and I couldn't wait there any longer so I left after oil change. If I didn't get complimentary service done I would never come back here. Let's hope scheduling a regular appt will be a better experience. UPDATE: removed another star due to Hyundai trying to lie about me needing an alignment at $170. I went somewhere else reputable to get the alignment done after getting the oil changed and they told me I didn't need one. read more

I brought my vehicle to this place as I bought the car from this dealership. I was told I needed brakes on my vehicle and when I refused I was asked to sign a waiver acknowledging the car was unsafe. I took the car to another mechanic and he started I didn't need brakes? he showed me the thickness on the brake pads and stated I had at least until the end of the year to have them replaced. I had enough brake pads that it would pass inspection. I will no longer be coming to this dealer as I no longer trust that they are trying to sell you service that you don't need read more

I typically do not leave bad reviews because I don't feel that it's fair to business owners if they have not had a chance to rectify the situation, but in this case, I feel that other customers should be fully aware of what they're dealing with when working with Checkerd Flag Hyundi. We have a Hyundai Genesis with 60,000 miles on it. We are the only owners and bought it from this dealership. Summer of 2022 all of the electrical on the vehicle went out and we had to have it towed in, from that moment on our service experience has been a disaster. No one ever contacted us, we had to continually call them to see what the status of our vehicle was and they finally decided that a new motherboard would need to be ordered for the car. It took about 10 days for this diagnosis because the car was towed in and did not have an appointment. We never heard from anyone again. We would regularly call to check on it and most customer service reps would not know what we were talking about and would have to get back with us. They had the car for almost an entire calendar year. In that time , the maintenance representative assigned to us changed three times, each time with a new person who was unaware of the status of our car. They had no answer for us about getting the part and did not in any way try to rectify the situation during this year. The car also went out of its 10 year warranty. I finally had to call Hyundai USA to get a claims manager to address the problem. They assigned a case manager, who followed up weekly and was able to track down a part, and claim it for our vehicle. During the year they left our car out on the lot, did not return the sunscreen to the front dash, and left unattended. Just last May we had $2,000 worth of work and a state inspection on the car. Now, because the battery (we had just replaced), and inspection was due, they charged us $3200 for the work, with no recognition or compensation for our lack of use of the vehicle. They have had the car since summer of 2022 and I'm certain that it would not have been repaired if I had not reached out to Hyundai USA. Unfortunately, I do have one good thing to say about this dealership. I would look elsewhere if you are planning on buying a new or used Hyundai. read more

Didn't learn my lesson 2 years ago. Had to return for the 3rd recall, this time for a trunk latch that I had repaired 4 months before the recall at my expense. Was originally told all I needed was the Hyundai mechanic to check to see it was replaced and could sign off my vehicle recall list, take about 15 minutes. Brought the car in at my appt. time of 12:45pm and they told me they needed to keep it and do the full recall checklist (1 hour).I sit in their waiting room for 1hr and 15min. I go to the service area and ask about the car and am told by the Service Manager my Service Advisor went to lunch and my car would be ready in about an hour. I went home understanding they had little concept of time management. (theirs or mine) They called at 3:33pm and told me it was ready. The employees were all generally very friendly. I would prefer less friendly and more competence if I had to choose. Will not be purchasing another Hyundai. I am absolutely blown away by sales professional, Demario, service technician, Raymond, and service coordinator, Jasmine!!! I needed a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get from my boyfriend's place in the 4 by 4 section of Corolla and the paved section of Corolla. Having divorced just 2.5 years ago my credit was not the best, but Demario was able to make it happen for us and I am now the proud owner of a 2020 Jeep Compass. We had some minor issues with tire pressure sensors and desired a second key fob which had to be ordered and synced with car computer system and Demario coordinated all of our service needs and secured a loaner vehicle for us to use for the day. My car was leaking antifreeze, I was told by Checkered Flag Hyundai that it would be 5 to 7 days to order parts and repair. In the mean time I got a rental vehicle through Checkered Flag at a discount since I have a life and a family to transport around. Over 5 weeks later and $2400 in rental fees I finally got my car back. While my car was at Checkered Flag, I was not kept up-to-date on what was happening with it and had to call every few days to find out. I was told my car would be finished later in the week multiple times, but each time, so I was told, Checkered Flag ran into an issue of either parts breaking or unavailability of parts. At one point I stopped by the dealership because I hadn't heard anything for a week and a half and was told that Checkered Flag had been looking for a part for that long. I asked for the part number, went home, ordered, received, and delivered the part to Checkered Flag within 3 days. I ended up paying over $2400 in rental fees alone, which the service manager said she thought was fair if Checkered Flag split that cost with me. She said she would call and follow up with me during the next week - after I had received my car and paid all invoices. Once again, I never received a call, but I did receive a slap in the face $277 refund. On the bright side, that's better than nothing. Needless to say I will not be taking my vehicle there again. Communication, follow through on actions, and general confusion seemed to plague Checkered from my perspective. (cont'd) I stated, me, not being contacted about the tow hitch, was something he/Adam needed to discuss, internally, amongst them (Demario, himself and his staff). I told them I followed up with the contacts Demario provided me; that I'd called the service department several times - had left voicemail and never received a return call. Adam then asked who was responsible. I looked at Demario, who replied that when he spoke with the service department reps, he was always told the parts were on back order. I expressed to both men that I'm always quick to apologize when I am at fault. Neither of them apologized, ever. Demario and Adam both discussed that the individual in the service department got fired for not returning calls. I was stunned and expressed sorrow for the firing. They both stated the former employee deserved it. I followed up by asking how soon I should expect the check because I'd be in town for a few days. Adam entered some data into a computer, stated he'd made the appropriate request and stated he would be off work on Tuesday, but would return to work on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, however I could follow up on Tuesday if I'd like. I stated I would not bother him on his day off, I'd be fine with following up on Wednesday when he stated he'd return to work. He said he would be available after 3pm, Wednesday - after the company's harassment training, quipping that the company would teach [them] how to harass [people]. I gave both Adam and Demario a light-hearted fist bump and told Adam I'd talk with him/Adam on Wednesday. I called Adam at 3:40pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. I reached a generic voicemail recording, again, and did not leave a message. Later, I drove to the dealership and was greeted by an employee/Maya who told me she'd locate Adam. Moments later, I greeted Adam, who immediately stated the check was cut. I asked him if it included associated finance consideration because I was now approaching six (6) [actually, seven (7)] months of car payments. He stated sales tax was the only thing he asked for. He went to his desk and used a calculator to tell me the sales tax would be $17 and change. I said to him, I would not belabor the issue of finance charges, that "I'd let karma handle it." Then, I asked Adam when I should expect the check. He told me I will get it when it comes. I asked again, when should I expect the check -because I told [him] I would only be in town for a few days. He said he didn't make the owner [of company] sign checks. He proceeded to say the onus was on me and the dealership...we both were at fault, that he was the one who requested the check, and he didn't have to give me anything. I told him he did because I did not receive the tow hitch, nor the (associated) service. I asked him again, what has been his experience regarding a check arriving at the dealership with respect to a similar/historical situation. He said it could arrive tomorrow. I said, "Thank you, that's all I was asking." Then Adam said he didn't like what I said or he didn't appreciate what I said about karma, and that karma didn't apply. I told him it did - listen to the Taylor Swift song. I walk a few steps away from the desk and then a few steps back, telling Adam [because of this experience] I was not going to do business with Checkered Flag again and that I was going to document the experience. He popped his lapel and said, "Good," [my name is] Adam Hamilton!" I replied, "I know who you are...George." Then, I left the building. The following day I received a text from Adam asking if it would be acceptable for him to text me, I replied I wanted to receive no text messages; but, email (only). Very pleased with the outreach from management after an initial rough start establishing a relationship at Checkered Flag. I needed to get a key fob replaced and have the replacement fob activated and the lost fob deactivated since I had dropped my fob in my parking spot. Bradford, the parts manager, and Raheem, the service manager each contacted me promptly to address the concerns I shared with each of them via voicemail several days after my initial visit on April 13th. When I went back to Checkered Flag on April 20th to pick up the key fob and meet with Raheem to try to schedule the activation appointment, Raheem went out of his way to get me squared away with a working key fob on the spot so I could stop paying the nightly garage fees I had been paying for my careless mishap. Raheem also connected me with Huy on the service team who is smart, quick thinking, and very personable. Thanks to both Bradford and Raheem, I now have a very good working relationship with both Aaron in Parts and Huy in Service. They gave me several different prices they had to keep correcting. They said this almost new car passed all inspections & I put $5,000 down & made plans to take off work & drive 10 hrs to pick it up only to have them later call & tell me to wait. The car was in the shop! No explanation & no phone call to follow up. I had to keep calling them to find out there was an "issue" with the fuel pump. I then asked to have my money returned. They said they returned it Saturday. It is Wednesday & there is no sign of my money. I have called but I still don't have my money. Obviously, there's a problem with this car & with their ethics. My experience with Checkered Flag Hyundai World service department was less than ideal. I made an appointment to have my car serviced first thing Tuesday morning, and did a Monday night drop off. I called multiple times Tuesday morning to follow up and was assured that my car was being serviced. At 1pm, I received a call saying that my car had not yet been looked at and that I had a new service representative who would take care of me. Later that evening, I was told that the parts for my car's repair would arrive Wednesday and that it would be completed Thursday. The parts didn't arrive on Wednesday, but instead of keeping me apprised of my car's status, it took me calling multiple times Thursday evening to find out that the parts wouldn't arrive until Friday. On Saturday, they told me my car repair was complete and that it was available for pickup. When I picked up my car, they again assured me that the repairs were complete, but the next day the airbag light was on again signifying the issue had not been resolved. I dropped my car off again on a Thursday, and called to find out the status on Friday. They told me they would call me back shortly. They did not call me back until the following Wednesday. The issue with my car has still not been fixed, and I spoke with a manager about the less than professional service I received. He assured me that he would bring my concerns up with their general manager and that the general manager would give me a call. No surprise that it has now been a week since I was told the general manager would call me, and I still have not heard from him. I would not recommend the service department of Checkered Flag Hyundai World. Not only was my time disrespected, but I was not treated as a valued customer. The lack of follow up is a major and consistent concern, and I would strongly recommend not bringing your car here for any service issue that cannot be completed in one visit. read more

I need help...We purchased a 2022 GV70 from Checkered Flag Genesis, Virginia Beach, VA on April 25, 2022. The same week when my husband washed the vehicle he noticed 4 spots that looked as if the clear coat had been rubbed off. He called the dealer and they said, "we didn't do it, but bring it over so we can see it." He drove the hour back to Virginia Beach and they scheduled the vehicle to be fixed on May 25th. He took it back on May 25th. They said they were able to "buff it out". They still have this vehicle and when he called today, no one knew anything about it and the person who was handling the repair was no longer there. We have a registration and title, but no vehicle to match either! SERIOUSLY, this has become very frustrating. Can someone HELP? UPDATE: Yet another day with them not calling or doing anything to get our vehicle back to us!! This is now 15 days to "buff" 4 factory defects out of the paint. Ashley, manager of service said she would call us today when she had arrangements made to get us our vehicle. NO CALL FROM ASHLEY!! General Manager was in his office, knew I was asking for him and wouldn't answer the phone...hmmm...Wonder how good it's gonna look having an old lady picketing the dealership? (6/8/22) UPDATE: Ashley Hunt, Service Manager, said she would call this morning (6/9/22) to tell be when they would be bringing the car back. Naturally, 9:30 a.m. as I sit home waiting for her call, she hasn't called...nor will she answer the phone. We had a Santa Fe for 9 years before we traded it in. It gave us very little issue over the years and when something popped up, it wasn't a back breaking cost to get it fixed. When it was time to get a new one, we did a ton of research and Checkered Flag is the one that received the most glowing reviews and I can see why. One-They do not work on commission. Which is nice. No pressure. The price you see, if you do the amount of research I did prior to going, is a fair price if not better. Two-Everyone is genuinely friendly. They want to make this is as painless as possible. Harvey is the one that helped us find the car we wanted with the bells and whistles we needed. Having a teenager that is getting ready to drive, we want to make sure that we had all the updated safety features needed for us to feel comfortable letting our first born out on the road. We initially were looking at 2016 Santa Fe's but we found a 2017 Santa Fe that had everything we needed and at a good price. Daniel assessed our trade in, gave us a fair quote and Courtney sat down with us to go over payments and packages. We opted for the interior and exterior protection because we have kids and dogs. You need that protection if you have kids and dogs...trust me...lol It took a little while for the car to be prepared, but that is because it literally just got off the truck. It still had the plastic and stuff around it. A week later I had to bring the car back to have the protection put on it and Michael was outstanding! It was a whirlwind day, I will spare you the details, but know it had nothing to do with Checkered Flag...it was me having one of those days that everything I touched, something went wrong...lol... but Michael made it go as smoothly as possible for me and I got my car back within 6 hours. Avoid this business at all costs. I brought my vehicle to Checkered Flag Hyundai weeks ago to fix a very minor issue regarding a molding on a newer Sonata where the plastic was scratched and barely punctured -- from far away you can't even tell there was damage. Checkered Flag provided a service appointment (Jessica, the service advisor) the next day, and when the vehicle was worked on it was discovered the part was actually wrong - but they had already torn off the molding and broken the piece in the process. Jessica promised to order the correct part and call us back - but never followed through. A week later, I call their parts department and discover the part was in fact ordered and had arrived a day or two ago - yet nobody had called us to set an appointment. I speak with the service manager (Ashley) and I am told the part needs to be painted and that it will get done the following week. A week goes by, no word from anyone or any status updates. I call and email Ashley, no response. I call and email Bryan Lane (General Manager, same guy who responds to most of these reviews on Google) to discuss the problem and find resolution. No response. That very day we receive a text message from the dealership at 9PM EST to set an appointment in the future because, guess what, the part has not yet been painted and they just aren't sure on the timeline. The follow up is a clear confusion on where we are in the process and what the next step is. It's been almost a month. So I've had to drive around with a molding missing on my car for several weeks now with still no idea on when Checkered Flag Hyundai intends to fix the problem. I could have at least had my slightly damaged part put back on in the meantime and taken the vehicle to a different shop that knows what they're doing. Unprofessional barely scratches the surface on how to define this place. read more
