When I first heard there was a deal for 2 double burgers for $4 each, I almost didn't believe it considering inflation these days. I was skeptical that even if it did exist it would be a small, sad sandwich. Luckily, I was wrong. I got a chicken sandwich and a double burger, as well as an order of the fries and chicken bites for just a bit over $11 total, which ended up being more than enough food for 2 people. The chicken sandwich was not the crispiest but the meat was juicy and flavorful. The burger wasn't the best, but I did try my friend's fish sandwich and realized that was probably the better item to order. read more

This location is right by the subway. Minus the bulletproof glass look, the staff was very friendly and the food was as good as any other checkers I've ever been to. I always go for the special items and the fries. The fries are the best in the biz and the specialty items are usually pretty good too. I got the pot roast burger this time around. The place itself late at night seems to draw some thuggish individuals and weirdos as can be expected in this area. Post-Yelp event while awaiting the bus, I thought it would be a good idea to keep warm in the nearby fast food joint so my fingers wouldn't freeze off. Upon entry, my eyes glance at two irresistible words: mozzarella sticks. Powerless against fried cheese, my legs gravitated towards the counter. There yet again, another gigantic sign smacked me in the face, 2 for $6 spicy double chicken sandwiches. There I was, waiting for my order, happy as a clam, with the notion of hot mozzarella sticks to warm up my lifeless body. Receiving my order it felt heavier than usual, then I remember blurting out, "2 spicy double chickens, please." Walking to the bus stop, I sank into a mozzarella stick. Quite possibly the poorest excuse for a fried cheese stick I ever came across. I knew it would be frozen but it had that freezer taste to it. Hope was not lost, maybe the chicken sandwiches would redeem me. Boarding the bus, I found a seat and quickly opened my first sandwich. Immediately, mesmerized by not one but two patties, I realized this was either going to be a really bad idea or the most glorious heart attack I've subjected myself to. Taking a few bites, I didn't want to do this anymore. Putting it down, I flung my grease bag to the wayside never to be seen again. Gluttony is a sin and I learned this the hard way. At least I got quick and courteous service from the cashier, plus one star. read more

This is my second review of a Checkers. For some reason they're opening all over the B44 bus route. For some other reason I"m often very drunk when getting on the B44. So I'm kinda getting to be a Checkers regular. I still can't bring myself to give fast food more than three stars. I ended up here because the McD's next door used to have a late-nite window, but they closed it. Probably if the little slidey window had been open I'd have got a cheeseburger and caught my ride, but Checkers, while fast, isn't quite as fast as premade food shoved out the side of a building so I missed the B44 and wolfed down a cheesy bacony double-pattied-Texas Toast-ed topped-with-onion-rings burger in an empty bus lot and hailed a cab. read more

Checkers!!!!! I'm glad that this has finally made it's way to NYC. I had this place when I was in South Carolina. The food here is made to order and you never see anything under a hot lamp. The chicken sandwiches are awesome and instead of a hamburger bun. They have it between two pieces of toast. Though the locations are a bit scarce. I'm waiting for more to open up. Whenever i'm in Williamsburg I stop by for a quick bite to eat. read more

Checkers is a typical fast food joint. Their food is high in fat, calories and sugar, but it's oh so delicious if that's what you're after. Their seasoned fries are fantastic. So much so that you don't even need to slather them in ketchup. They give you good portions and the price isn't too bad consider how much food you're getting. This location also delivers, which is awesome! The location itself is nothing to write home about, but the food will surely be delicious and will fill you up when you eat it. read more

I ordered from this Checkers location through GrubHub and I was a bit skeptical if my order was actually going to go through, hah. Despite the cold and rainy weather conditions, the delivery man arrived at my house at EXACTLY the time of arrival estimated on the grubhub site. And the food was still warm with goodness. Total time from placing order to delivery was only 30 minutes. Also, I visit this location fairly often. I noticed that the food I ordered was packaged differently. Much nicer and neater from an online order than going there in person. If packaging presentation matters to anyone. So onto food. Of course, this is fast food. It depends on your tastes. My friend and I were hungry after walking around in the cold, desolate night for hours. We decided to give this place a try. The inside looks like the waiting room inside a hospital. We got to the counter and ordered, and the cashier sounded very angry and rude. After waiting 20 minutes for our order, he handed us the bag, and didn't even say "you're welcome," even when we said "thank you." Instead, he just shoved us the bag and didn't even look at us. Then, when we got back to the table, we found out he had given us the wrong order. Also, the meat on my friends burger was uncooked. This place is SCARY. Its like a cross between a halfway house, homeless shelter and mental ward at a hospital. I mean its like a comedy and drama in one. It's just not safe. Homeless people live here. I have nothing against homeless people, but in this situation, I was scared for my safety. You can tell they live there, because they have all their belongings with them. They talk loudly to themselves. They also get in arguments with each other as well as imaginary people who are not even there. When I was in, there was a couple of people arguing. They were not customers, they had no food, just their belongings. It was evident that they had been there for a while, and they had an obvious relationship with the staff. One of them kept yelling at the other, calling her a whore at the top of his lungs. The accused whore insisted that she was indeed NOT a whore, while her accuser, also at the top of his lungs insisted that he had just witnessed her "SUCKING COCK" in the street moments earlier. There were at least 6 inhabitants of this place that were not eating checkers food. I am happy to say non of them were sucking cock either. If I were watching the same scenario play out on TV, I might be laughing. However, in this case, I was just trying to have dinner. I talked to staff, who informed me that it is like this all the time. I also spoke to the manager, who chose not to address the situation. I chose to leave. I won't be going back. Unless of course I need my....oh never mind, I think I can do without that for now, but god knows my wife won't do it, so maybe I should check with the lady who lives at Checkers on Broadway. ;-) God only knows what kind of combinations they offer at this Checkers. read more
