I've been here a couple of times, once for the burger a while ago, and recently for the chicken sandwich. It is nice that it's part of the bar and you can get real food while you're out, and I do remember enjoying the burger. But the chicken sandwich was just strange in all the wrong ways. I'm a fan of cilantro, but there was wayyy too much and I looked a little silly piling up my herbs on my tray in the bar. My friend hates cilantro and had to pick off all of it. I just didn't enjoy eating this sandwich, I didn't think the chicken was seasoned well and it was exploding out of the bun in the wrong way, the slaw and sauce didn't complement the other flavors in the sandwich. We did really like the animal style fries, which I've gotten before, nice and crispy and with that delish queso. I never got why the onions were on there but still enjoyed. I'd stick with the burger, but honestly there are better ones out there. It's only useful if you're hanging at the bar and feeling peckish. Maybe just get fries.
we were in the mood for burgers after a jazz show on vday and this was the closest place nearby. i have to say, the food was PHENOMENAL. i'm absolutely obsessed with the animal style fries. the server at the window was the sweetest and the music was bumping. i can't wait to come back!
I came here due to a friend's recommendation. I love fried chicken and she knows it. I got the crispy fried chicken sandwich and the animal style fries. The chicken sandwich was made out of thigh meat, which is amazing as a big dark meat fan. The thigh is actually my favorite. The sandwich was full of cilantro and that was alot of the taste I had as well as the ranch. Be warned: it is a very very messy meal as the bun does not contain the chicken at all. It was delicious though. Chicken was pretty tender and it was pretty crispy too. The animal style fries were good too but at $11 I may pass on this next time in favor of the $6 regular fries. Lowkey think I like in n out original animal style better.
great burger spot - ordered for take out & got the pop's burger with animal fries. had the best time eating this cozy meal with a movie. also, i recommend getting a side of special sauce if you love a saucey burger
It's a Friday night with unseasonably warm weather, and we're exploring the neighborhood for a taste of something new. Since it was a full house, we had to go for the outdoor seating. Sadly, it quickly became the smokers' section. Thankfully, we were able to escape by grabbing an available table indoors. I ordered the Dusty Dog (corn-battered on a stick mustard, spicy mayo, cilantro scallion, crispy shallots, and togarashi) and really appreciated the employee confirming whether the hotdogs were 100% beef. It tasted alright, alongside a handful of crispy fries that I grabbed from a friend.
This is a small little kitchen within The Johnsons so it's great for drunk eats or just a pickup and go. The best part of all this is that they have vegetarian alternatives for all their choices. I got the Chop Burger vegetarian with a veggie burger (for $1 extra) and my friend got the grumpy meal. Both were big enough portions and the Yelp Check-in reward was fries! The fries were cooked perfectly a good size (and a good size portion) and had some great seasoning. There's place to eat indoor and outdoor and it was a really quick turn around. Definitely a place I'll come back when I'm craving a veggie burger!

Crisp golden fries (Asian flavor to them, ummmmm), fresh burgers and portable drinks? Yes please. Never mind the picture of my pain killer isnt frozen, its for later (I'm excited). I will be sure to use these nice folks for delivery and irl the future.
I've ordered strange flavor burger shack before and recently stopped in for pickup for the first time so I decided why not write a review. Strange flavor has some, well.. strange flavors, but good ones at that! What you see in the picture is my typical order: the chop burger (no pickles) and animal style fries. Both have interesting flavors you wouldn't normally expect from a burger place! The burger even has peanuts which, although sounds odd, is actually really good for a different textural component. The fries are more crunchy than soft but the sauce is plentiful and welcomed. They also give you a ton, so I'd recommend sharing an order instead of getting one per person. It's not something I crave all the time, but once in awhile I get the urge for some strange flavors!
To be clear, this little burger shack is located inside The Johnson's, an 80s style retro bar. The shack offers a few classic burgers, loaded fries, and crispy chicken sandwiches. You order at the shack window, they give you a number and bring the food to your table at the bar. The fries alone come in a huge portion so I don't know why I ordered a chicken sandwich but that's what I did. Dang that chimken was good! I don't know what batter they use but the outside crisp was phenomenal. They use some sort of Asian-style seasoning blend, which was a delightfully scrumptious surprise. The other surprise was how enormous the chicken was. This is a huge chicken cutlet sandwiched between a regular potato bun. They could easily make two chicken sandwiches w that amount of cutlet, possibly even three. So I recommend splitting the sandwich w someone. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the sandwich but feast thine eyes upon these fries. I recommend.

Ordered via door dash It was my husband's birthday and we were looking for something different to eat. We stumbled on this place and we areso glad we did. Vegetarian Grumpy Meal: tasted just like a real burger. My brother said it tasted like a char grilled burger. Grumpy meal #1: ordered as is... fresh, filling Grumpy meal #2: no cheese and added bacon... let me tell you, that bacon.. if there is an option, just add it to EVERYTHING! Animal fries: don't let the description scare you off. Just order them and enjoy. As for the fries? I have never had fries that were still fresh, had a snap and didn't have that "delivery sweat" that made the fries wet and nasty. Warmed back up in the air fryer and they were still amazing. We will probably order Grumpy meals with the fries being animal fries... Suggestions to the resturant: BLT's: brioche bun,that bacon and special sauce. I would pay good money for that!!!!!!! read more

Strange Flavor is located inside The Johnsons, so my partner and I decided to give it a try while we were there. We ordered a Grumpy Meal and Dusty Dog, with animal fries. The burgers were pretty much all vegetable, the sliders were smaller than others I've had. The corn dog and animal fries were both decent, though not sure I'd order either again for the price. All in all, I'm glad we tried it but if we return, I'd try other menu items. read more

The burger and fries were really good especially with the secret sauce. The drinks I can't really judge because I drink bourbon straight. The place itself is a dive bar that looks like it not trying to be a dive bar lol. The ppl are cool everyone was doin their own thing. My bartender didn't start being friendly until about my 3rd drink. it's was a cool place to go. We only went because we wanted a burger late night and it was the closest place to get one that wasn't a fast food joint. Music was 80-90s themed read more

Delivery experience only. Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich (5/5) - excellent sandwich. I had it delivered and the bun was still fluffy and not soggy at all and the chicken still warm. The sandwich is delicious and huge. I loved the flavors! It's different but it works. Animal Style Fries (5/5) - amazing within itself. Heightened my sandwich experience. Would order again for sure. read more

4.5 stars! First and foremost the Burgers are deeeelicious!! I've been here multiple times and to be fair I've only had the Pop's Burger, but that just speaks to how amazingly good they are! And honestly what more do you want from a burger joint other than great burgers! That's all it took to turn me into a repeat customer, even despite the not so cheap $11 price--which is saying A LOT for me because I am notoriously cheap!! Lol If you read my other reviews you'll know I pay attention to prices and the value of the food I buy! They lost half a star because I finally ventured out to try their Animal Style Fries the last time I went and they weren't good. Just waaay too much going on. It was hard to eat with so many sauces and toppings which made fries completely soggy and for $8 it felt like a total waste. Nonetheless, the Pop's Burgers are SO great that l will absolutely keep coming back! read more
This place is really something special. We been ordering for a long time from this spot (sometimes, so sadly food coming completely cold, but I'm living in Williamsburg that's why:). And we decided that it's better to pick up. This spot, is hidden, like it's pain to find it (even after I've been for many times there, I got lost again). After placing the order everything was ready in 10min. And it's so so so good. My favorite is chicken sandwich, it's like Incredibly delicious and big. Animal fries mmmmm. read more

Yummy double cheeseburger and fries delivered promptly on a Sunday night during all the covid madness. Ordered through Caviar and it was a pleasant experience. I love the cute bag/logo. Hipster hamburger for sure. Ha. House sauce is good. Food was really well packed and warm. Some of the best fries I've had in east Williamsburg. One of my favorite restaurants! I'm normally not a corn dog person, but their corn dogs are divine. Their burgers are incredibly flavorful and their animal style fries are ginormous and delicious. Highly recommend pairing their food with a painkiller from the Johnsons read more
This little kitchen- makes possibly the best burgers! With their small menu, we always know exactly what we want. We've been here so many times, and ordered on Ubereats as well. Pops burgers and animal fries. Pops burger- although it looks small, it's so filling! It's delicious. The patties are perfectly cooked. The lettuce is a perfect combination of soggy and crunchy tossed in burger sauce. Tomato. Pickles. The bread is soft and a perfect top to the burger. The animal fries- onions, cheese, spice, cilantro, and I don't even know what else. But they're delicious. They're not crispy crunchy fries. They're more like house cut potatoes. They typically get soggy quickly. But they're SO GOOD! read more
I discussed this restaurant during the quarantine and I'm so glad I did. I've ordered delivery twice now and both times the food was delish! The first time I ordered the burger which consisted of two patties and house sauce and house cut fries. The second time I had the hot fried chicken sandwich and house cut fries. I don't know what seasoning the use on these fries but they are so damn good! The burger was yummy and well seasoned and the hot fried chicken sandwich was juicy inside and crispy outside. Delivery arrived quickly and the food was well packed and still warm. By the way the give a ton of fries! Yasss! read more

Great burgers (both veggie and meat) - I have no clue what's in the veggie burger to be entirely honest (seems like a bean base, but perfectly crisp on the outside - maybe some cornmeal in there?), but it was on par with the beef burgers. The fries used to be the only thing keeping this place from being perfect (they used to come super soggy and soft, making their five spice-ish seasoning taste "off"), but now they're crispy perfection. Get 'em animal style! Never tried the dogs/chicken...one day! read more

Looking for food bursting in flavor? This is the spot! Even just looking at the food had my mouth drooling. We ordered the Pop's burger, Hot fried chicken sandwich, and animal style fries. Pop's burger was super juicy and cheesy. The fried chicken sandwich was just the right amount of spice (nothing too hot) and the chicken was crispy and juicy. And if you're from the west coast or are familiar to In-n-out's animal style fries, this restaurants version is like the boujee sister of them. Ingredients are fresh, caramelized onions are a touch sweet, and every bite is just to die for. Definitely ordering from here again! read more

Biggest waste of your time out there! Firstly it's a mini container in front of a bar. You place your order at the container and proceed to wait. The reason for the poor rating- the wait is over 40mins long, I think we waited about 50mins (might aswell call it an hour at this point) for our food. It would be nice if you're told about this long wait time before you order - could put things into perspective. And it's not like they are baking the bun from scratch so I don't get why it takes so long We ordered the pops burger, the wings and the animal fries. Fries were soggy!!! The wings had some cinnamon flavour that wasn't advertised. The pops burger was just ok! I wouldn't really recommend this place, except you come to the bar to hangout and you're thinking ok might just get some food for after the liquor hits. read more

A cool spot for a great burger! Last night I came in with my wife and another couple to grab a late bite (11pm-ish) after a show at Company XIV down the street. This was the second time we've done this and it was another delicious experience, which proved that this place is worth a review! The decor is just spot-on, with the most retro feel and good music all evening. And the burgers were ON POINT! Add to that a crunchy-yet-pillowy corn dog, and serious animal style fries (not pictured), and this is a perfect place for a late-night hang. Looking forward to the next show and the next burger! read more
