I was super excited to see a Checkers on the way to the mountains! The fries are great but the burgers aren't that great. I usually get a fish or chicken sandwich. On this visit I got 2 fish sandwiches and a small fry for under five bucks. That's a great deal considering the food is better and cheaper than McDonald's. My spouse got the hot wings. He was expecting the worst and felt like taking a gamble, but he said they were pretty good. I had a bite of them and they were crispy and a plain Texas Pete-like sauce. There was miscommunication ordering that was quickly cleared up. Employees were displaying positive attitudes. I wouldn't say Checkers is a favorite of mine. But you know how it is, getting something you normally can't get is usually good or interesting. I would come here again "just because." read more

First things first, the fries and the banana milkshakes are good. Second, though, we've picked up food here a couple times and it seems like they just can't get orders right. Last time was the worst as me and my wife both had our food wrong. Mayonnaise is about the only food that I just cannot stand and my burger with no mayo ended up being a burger with mayo on top and bottom. Honestly, I just ended up pitching it. My wife was able to remove enough of the ingredients that aggravate her food allergies, but still, it was frustrating. I tried reaching out to Checkers and their customer service department and never heard back from anyone. There are plenty of better places in Shelby to get a burger and fries so now avoiding Checkers isn't any loss. The food I've eaten is already decent but it's rare you'll get what you ordered. read more

Any time something new comes to Shelby there can be a bit of a buzz. For months we watched as the old Domino's Pizza building was transformed...into a Checkers. So I had never heard of Checkers - must be a regional thing that's expanding. Many people were excited and talked about how good the fries there were. Got some drive thru one day, and , well let's just say - I'm not very impressed. Not sure what the fuss about the fries is. Don't get me wrong the food (burger) wasn't bad, it just wasn't great - there are so many fast food chain options out there and this one doesn't shine. The prices here are pretty good though. I can't believe they had enough space to fit this place into that small of a space and lot! On the positive side - I do get a chuckle when I see the billboard that says "Your Mouth Looks Lonely" - sounds like a bad pick up line! read more

Just went back and got a burger, drink, and fry and it was $10.25!!!! That's insane for fast food. I ordered a large but that still shouldn't be that expensive. My husband was a huge fan of Checkers growing up in Florida and said it was always a childhood favorite. Once they started building one in Shelby I knew I had to visit. I decided on the drive-thru and had a long wait, but since they've only been open for a short time I can understand the long line. All of the employees were very friendly, and everything in my order was correct. I got the chilli dog combo, but I felt it cost a little too much for the small amount of food I received. My husband felt the same way for his combo. Overall I would say this is a pretty average fast food restaurant, but if you've never been you could always give it a go. read more

I gave this restaurant 1 star for a perfectly understandable reason. The food was great. I watched the three person crew handle the drive through and walk ins proficiently. HOWEVER, the young lady who built the burgers and called out orders and who was obviously in charge never changed gloves after taking money at the counter. I was disgusted to see this. Money is one of the nastiest things one can handle, yet she did the transactions, then went back to making burgers with out ever replacing dirty gloves. This is my first time trying Checkers in Shelby. I visited this location around 11:30 on a Wednesday. My fries were hot, my burger was delicious and my order was correct. I really like the fries, they taste a lot different than other local fast food restaurants. I received my food in a timely manner and noticed they have a high sanitation score of 99. The woman working the drive thru window was friendly. I'm pleased with my food and experience. I would come back the next time I'm in the Shelby area. read more

Went to the Checkers in Shelby NC 4/1/21 around 9:37 pm ordered a baconzilla, chicken bite and fry box and 20 pc boneless ; got to window the girl Haven told us we couldn't add on to our order at the window and said wed have a wait. 40 yes 40 minutes later we had to stop a guy delivering food to a nearby car and he said "Oh I thought y'all had left" after we had been told to f*** park and they would bring it. Then went back around to window for a refund right afterwards and Haven and her fellow employees Are going to be laughing about thinking "we drove off" and had waited nearly an hour for food with a child with us. get your team together! read more

I got the worst food poisoning that I have ever had in my entire life from this checkers on Saturday. I got a checkerburger with cheese and a hotdog and fries at 3 PM and I guess it had been sitting out all day or something but I got the worst food poisoning four hours later and that's the only thing I ate all day. I had to go to the doctor to get antibiotics because the bacteria was so severe from this food. I wasn't going to do a review but this is day five of having food poisoning. I am highly dissatisfied we got two burgers and two chicken bites with 4 fries, when we went to eat our food there were only 3 fries in the bag!! The only reason I gave one star is zero stars we're not available. This brand new store is a pathetic place of business, I have lived in different areas of the country, some have Rally's and some have Checker's. Regardless of what it's called, they all follow the same protocol for the way it's run and the way the food is made and the way the customers should be treated. I'm surprised this particular stores franchise owner is okay with the way this store is run nor their customer service. The service sucks and the staff is rude. I pulled in one night with a delivery I needed to pick up at around 8:30pm and he told me the kitchen was closed, I told him why I was there and he got all huffy and mad that he would have to cook this order and said it would be over 20 mins. Ordered wings bone in and was told I had to wait 10 mins , but was offered boneless wings ,,, I accepted and ordered a blue raspberry slushy that I asked could I please get a large because I had to wait , the cashier told me no so I changed my order back to bone in and waited the 10 mins at the window and she had trouble with my card which worked because I went to cook out right down the road !!!!!and told me that it's not working and refused to give my food Kicker when I pulled up to the window I was given a coke That I didn't order , I gave it back nicely and and didn't receive my food so I'm gonna go talk to the manager tomorrow , but if u want a late night snack I would not waste my time coming to this place!!!! read more

I've been to many checkers in various states and was excited to see one coming to this area. My kids love the seasoned FFs. Well we tried the new one in Shelby today and they've got a lot of work to do. Chaotic in kitchen. Meals were taking FOREVER ( burger, wings, n chicken bites). The burger was season-LESS. No flavor at all. At other checkers, the burgers always tasted very full of flavor like onion type burgers made at home. The cashier was precious and very sweet. She was the best part of our visit. There is a nice counter for 3-4 people to stand inside & eat. Most checkers don't have that. However there was some shotty work done inside on corner of front where you order. Exposed Sheetrock that was just painted to hide but didn't match with the front wall that met at the corner. Very careless work. Come on checkers. You should be able to hire better contractors. The place looked fairly clean but my shoes were sticking to the floor from some kind of mess not properly cleaned up. When leaving we noticed someone from a house nearby running over to a back door with an empty big metal cup, going in and coming out with a free filled up cup. I guess those are free perks for people who live close by. Must be nice. Two out of three of us got very sick to our stomachs after eating from the Shelby Checkers. Not good at all !! read more

Our first visit to the new Shelby Checkers, which opened Feb. 18, 2019, was pretty good. The drive-thru line was LONG but that's expected for a new restaurant. We probably sat in line 30 minutes or so. There is an inside counter but no seating--and there are outside tables, but it was raining so we sat in line. (Honestly we've sat that long, too, at the Hardee's in Boiling Springs, NC when it wasn't new and had no one else was in line.) The burgers were good but a little sloppy as we've come to expect from a basic fast food burger. Bun pretty unremarkable. Very small beef patty. Lots of veggies and condiments. Cheese hard to notice. My wife LOVED the fries and compared them to thinner seasoned KFC potato wedges. The 4-piece monsterella sticks (weird name as they're not at all large) were good and different than most mozz sticks. The restaurant left our marinara out of the bag, so I was pretty bummed about that. We tried a couple of the Checkers dessert stackers for $1.99 each. My wife had a caramel cheesecake Twix, and I had the Oreo. Lots of candy pieces in both. I loved the Oreo. The cheesecake tasted like plain cottage cheese to me. But it was OK to her. The service was friendly at the widow. We'll definitely go back for another try once they're open a while. It looks like they'll be open later than most Shelby restaurants. read more

I grew up in Florida and had found memories of checkers. This is close to the worst restaurant I have ever been too. The burger taste like they boiled old meat, the fries were hard as rocks and everything is over priced and under sized. I gave them 3 tries and it never got any better. When I saw them building it I had high hopes that they would at least be average which is better than anything around here, unfortunately they are complete garbage and I will never eat there again. read more

Awful service, awful food lol. Could be the rudest employees in the history of fine dining. I dealt with Tyquariona and when I brought back my cheeseburger because it didn't have cheese on it (for real) she told me to get away from her before she got mad! But they aimed to please by opening up my bun and slapping a piece a cheese on it. That really happened, check the cameras. I know y'all are surprised but I didn't eat it.
