I need to put an end to my french fry cravings. I always thought the french fries at Checkers are quite flavorful, and it's a good option when I don't want to have McDonald's french fries (which is next door). However, despite it being a drive through and there is also a walk-up counter, I have always had to wait over 10-15 minutes just for my $1.75 value fries. I have tried the drive through (there is always a line in the evenings), and I even decided to park my car and walk up to the counter because there were many cars on both of the drive through lanes. Even when you are pulling up to the speaker, sometimes the operator tells you to wait, and you have to wait for several minutes until they come back. I'm not sure what is going on and why they don't process orders more efficiently. There is definitely a demand, and I feel bad for those who have to wait so long for their orders, to include myself for sole order of french fries. When I opened my order I was excited because they got the order correct and both the sandwich and the fries were piping hot....YES! Details: My wife and I ordered several things off the menu including a double checkerburger and a XL order of fries. When I pull up to the window the cashier tells me my total again and I hand him my credit card. Once he's got my card he then says "And I just want you to know we do accept tips and they are appreciated." I didn't have any shady experiences with the drive-thru, but can't the Checkers chain expand in this region?! Their fries can't be beat, their burgers are better than the other fast food options, and its cheap. And seriously, these are the BEST fast food fries you will find: battered, seasoned, delicious. My best memories of Padres games as a youth was eating Big Buford burgers and Rally's (Checker's) fries while watching the Padres go on to a 100 loss season. This location is located right where 50 turns into New York Avenue, and is a good pitstop if you are cutting through the city. Geographically, it's the closest one to Arlington, although I've been known to drive to the Richmond Highway location in Alexandria also... The women that work here never give you eye contact when there taking your order. They never say hello or welcome they just look at you in your face until you start making your order. They'll never say have a nice day and they even carry on conversation with other employees while your trying to get there attention about something they missed. You know what the food is like if you've ever been to this chain. It's also the same thing as Rally's if you've ever been to one of those. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, fries (crispy and covered in pepper, they're so yummy), it's your typical fast food. Checkers is either drive-thru or outside tables which is what really makes this location suck. Place right where 50 ends and NY Ave begins, if you sit outside you'll be breathing in massive amounts of exhaust as you listen to cars honk and tires squeal.
