Hey friends! I discovered this gem attending an EDM concert held here. I can't believe I have driven right past this place many times! It's a vibrant spot with in-house brews, food, vintage arcade games and friendly staff. I can't remember the name of the beer I ordered(I had two). But they were delicious! Obviously fresh and well-crafted. The space is beautiful. There's arcades games, two-levels, an outdoor stage, bar seating, and plenty of seating on both levels. +Customer service was friendly. Shoutout to the beertender that gave us samples and recommendations. He was patient with us! +Parking is plentiful there's a lot about five minutes away and a few spaces right out front. +Prices are average. +Bathrooms are gender neutral. Checked out Checkerspot Brewery while I was back in Baltimore for the weekend doing a little brewery hopping. This place was popping. Good crowd, nice atmosphere, and just an all-around good vibe. The inside is really spacious, which I liked, and the bartenders were attentive and made sure we always had a full beer. I had the Bird is the Word, their honey kolsch, and it was excellent. Really smooth, refreshing, and one of those beers I'd definitely order again. If I lived in Baltimore, this would easily be one of my go-to spots. Checkerspot is a fun brewery in Baltimore that offers gluten reduced beers and plenty of events. I'm not a big beer fan, but there are a few things here I enjoy! For starters, their grapefruit crush seltzer is a favorite, and they also have wine and canned cocktails too! Make sure you try their boozie slushies, yum! I haven't tried any of their foods yet, but their menu looks good. They are also pet friendly! You'll mainly see dogs, but last time I came in, I asked if I could bring my leash trained cat and they said yes (haven't yet, but who knows? maybe I'll bring her next time). They also allow kids, but I haven't brought mine here yet. They have a some board games and arcade games too. read more

What a great brewery!! I loved them in their previous space so I knew I'd love them here. They have a good variety of beers and are always willing to give you a taste or small pours so you can discover your new favorite beer. The best part about this location is the space!! There is so much space. I went one weekend for a private event in the upstairs area but there was still a market being held downstairs, a performer and still open space for people to just wander in and not feel over crowded! Checkerspot Brewery is off the beaten path, but a few blocks away from the stadium where the Ravens play. It is huge, has an elongated bar, plenty of seating, and an upstairs arcade. The service was great and the beer was even better. The BEER: Bella Birra Italian Pils 5.3% ABV... Oh wow! Pils with a hint of lemon, no very crushable. Delicately crafted and delicious Bird is the Word honey Kolsch 5.5% ABV... it is a kolsch. Didn't catch the honey on the 1st sip, but once it got warmer, the flavors were there 395 Rye amber Lager 5.4% ABV... this is a keeper, clean mouth feel, bold layered flavors. A solid, totally crushable, all day beer Barleywine 11% ABV... oh yum, prunes, lemon, a little boozy, but equally delicious They have some food options here. I didn't partake, but there was a reuben, and a hummus platter I might try on my next visit. The beer at Checkerspot is topnotch. read more

This is one of my favorite breweries in Baltimore. It's a plus that it's woman-owned and dog-friendly. They always seem to be having exciting new events so always keep a lookout on their Facebook page. The beers they have on tap are very diverse and constantly rotating. They are appropriate for almost every palette. If you're unsure, they allow you to try a sample of the beer before actually purchasing it. They have everything from IPAs to lagers with very unique flavor profiles and names. The beers are relatively cheap. They have a second floor for extra seating and a ton of board games. They have a unisex bathroom, which happened to be very clean to my surprise. In regards to food, they do allow you to bring outside food, but they also have a small New Orleans-style food menu as well. I got the Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya ($14) which was good, but the portion was so small for the price you pay. I also got the Spicy Shrimp Remoulade Wrap ($14) which was not as flavorful, but came with chips and a slice of pickle. read more

my first time here and it was a lovely time. BISM hosted a fundraising event for the blind industries and I had a ball. The beer options were cheap and very tasty. I saw food but didn't get a chance to order due to socializing. The service was quick and friendly. Dog friendly lots of dogs and dog treats around. I would def return. This was my first time coming to the new location. I had been to the other spot they had before a while back but didn't really remember it. This one was easy to locate right off the highway in an industrial area. There was plenty of street parking as well as parking on the side in the lot they share with neighboring businesses. I would assume the other businesses are closed during evening hours since there was so much parking available. The inside was very spacious with plenty of open seating. Came in on a Thursday night that meet a couple of coworkers and it wasn't crowded. They do serve food but the menu is limited. I think all of their beers are brewed in house. Some and great and some are a little weird. They will allow you to have small samples before you order a full sized glass. I say try a few until you find one you like. They have trivia nights and other special events so check out their website. read more

Great beers and good food! There is a great selection of beers, from stouts to sours, lagers to IPAs. Every beer was made with thought. They have an amazing sour called Sip Happens made with Earl Grey tea and lemon. Even if you don't like sours, you might like this one - it turned many in our group! The food is decent. Not amazing and pretty basic but does what is needed if you're drinking beers. The brewery itself is quite large, but can get loud when it's crowded. We saw a celebration of life, a birthday AND a running group meet up on our visit, which makes me think it's pretty integrated into the community. read more

I absolutely loved coming here. It was completely random and I just so happen to pass the restaurant while I was on my way to an event. The event just happened to start late so I stopped in there to just hang out. It's a great spot to relax and listen to some good music. They play such an eclectic mix of music. It was great. They have a bunch of different flavors of beers and for me, a non-beer drinker, I even got a cup of beer and it was delicious. The staff was really helpful with letting me know what beers they have on top, when they do tours of the brewery, and just the overall theme of the restaurant. The bartender helped me decide what beer I might like for somebody who doesn't like the taste of beer and he was spot on. They do have food there, but it's a very limited menu and it's a different type of set up. So it's not a typical restaurant where you go in and you order with a waiter and they deliver your food. It's literally a hole in the wall window that you order from. Even with that though the food was good. It's pretty much typical bar food. I ended up getting pretzel bites with cheese and potato chips and onion dip. I really like that the restaurant allows you to bring your dogs in. They have dog treats in a lot of different areas of the restaurant. It's really nice because they have a huge floor to ceiling window that you can look into and see all of the brewing equipment that they use. They also have some arcade games upstairs. I think my favorite part was that each stall in the bathroom had its own unique theme. Go check this place out for yourself! read more

I had a lovely time checking out this brewery right by the Orioles and Ravens stadium. I have been wanting to check out h the brewery for a while because their beers are sold at the Oriole's Stadium and who doesn't love Baltimorean beer?! When I visited, there was a cute Valentine's Day Market featuring many local businesses. Beyond the shops, I had a great time talk to the bartender and figuring out what beer I should try based on my taste preferences. Overall, I had a relaxing time at the brewery with friends :) The restrooms are clean and organized, I love how the women's restroom is baseball themed! One caveat would be that there is very limited parking, a small parking lot on the property is there but it's not well marked and there are not many clear signs of where to park. This is absolutely my favorite brewery in South Baltimore, if not all of Maryland. The welcoming atmosphere, the friendly staff and hands down the best beer I've ever had all come together to make it one of my favorite places to be. It's great before a game, on a Sunday afternoon, or after work with friends. They're inclusive and community focused, and have done a ton for the area around the brewery. They also do so much to help worthy causes like BARCS, Second Chance, community cleanup, and Baltimore Compost Collective to name a few. I went to the grand opening of Checkerspot Brewing Co. in Pigtown! This is a female owned brewery so everyone should come out and support this amazing brewery. Beers: With 13 brews to choose from, I went with Sip Happens, the lone sour on the menu. I highly recommend it to people who prefer wine over beer. It doesn't remind me of a traditional beer because this sour has a hint of tea in it. Service: It's the grad opening, so it's really busy. Overall the staff here is friendly. Ambiance: A really cool beer hall. I can see everyone in the neighborhood coming here to hang out before an O's or Ravens game. It's conviently located 3 blocks from M&T stadium. The owner thought of everything, there's a kids area on the second floor to distract the kids while the parents enjoy themselves. There's live music, outdoor seating and local food trucks. read more

I give Checkerspot the same number of stars as the number of happy dogs inside just enjoying the company of each other and the humans around them. I think being dog-friendly always improves the atmosphere of a brewery. But on to the food and drink. My only disappointment was that there was just a single dark beer, the Barrel Aged Berar, but I have zero objections to it coming in a 22 oz. bottle. Even better, I had the option of variations finished in either bourbon or rye. My drinking companions were equally satisfied, if not more, with their selections (and for most of those, you have a number of pour options). As for the food - I got the Reuben, and I have to say it was the best Reuben I have had in YEARS. The meat was lean and juicy, and the bread was not greasy at all. Other restaurants and diners should learn from these folks. There's also plenty of outdoor space, including cornhold boards, and plenty of swag inside to enhance your visit(s) here. read more

I came on a Thursday which meant...Greg's Shi**y Trivia. It was a great time and we played some of the board games while trivia was happening. Loved the selection of beers. The Stoop Sesh and the I'm Adam were my top two. The pickles were so good that I wanted to eat two containers, but chose to take the second one to go. I enjoyed the butterfly shaped pretzels, but the cheese was a very odd consistency (super watery). I also got the veggie flatbread which had pesto and seasonal veggies. I really enjoyed the flavor of the flatbread and would order again. As always, the service is great! read more

Their new location is a lot nicer inside than their old one was. It's very open and spacious so you can spread out. I came here on a Thursday night for trivia with some friends. We got there early and had fun playing some board games before it started. The trivia is set up in the back area with lots of tables and chairs. It was a full crowd the night we went. I'm not the biggest beer fan so I got berry seltzers throughout the night which were light and quite good. My dog also got to join in on the fun and had a great time being with everyone. I Rested my I had on the bar for 20 seconds. Is this how two combat veterans are treated. I do not drink and nothing matured. We were sumerrly Thrown out. There were 6 people in the entire place. A lot to like about this brewery. It is huge, clean and well lighted for our family visit during a midday Saturday. Upstairs game room (couple dozen stair steps) was terrific for our two toddler grandchildren. After a couple beers each, the seven of us headed out to visit a few more neighborhood breweries. The two brews that I tried were spot on delicious: I am Adam (hazy IPA) and Totality (aged rye barrel imperial stout). All but the game room was HC accessible. Parking was easy. Staff was pleasant. Love the beer, staff, and decor at both the new and old locations. We came to the new location before a sold out Orioles game in August and the new one last weekend before the Ravens game vs. The Seahawks and it was busy both times but still had ample seating. It is conveniently located near M&T Bank Stadium which has plenty of parking that is free when events are not going on. The food is good too but was a bit limited at the new location. Nice new spot to hangout and grab a beer in Baltimore. Right by the horseshoe and stadium. The parking is a bit hit or miss but the location is huge. Big open indoor space, plenty of seating. Kid/family friendly as you'll see plenty of strollers. They have space for games, pinball, skeeball. The bar/beer service is knowledgeable and friendly. The food option is a bit lacking but they do have basic snack to enjoy with your beer. Really like seeing more places like this opening up in Baltimore. Worth a visit to check out. read more

This is my first time to Checkerspot's new place! Bigger, spacious, same great beers! There is some parking directly around the building and game lots nearby. On an end of December Saturday afternoon, there was no problem getting parking right outside. A wide array of seating options - bar, high top, and low tables with a stage in the corner. Having not been here in awhile, I asked the friendly bartenders for a suggestion and opted for Bird is the Word, Honey Kolsh. Perfect for a light beer drinker like myself. This brewery is awesome! Tons of seating, 2 floors, food, and a variety of brews. They don't do flights, but you can do smaller pours. The Fishbasket Pepper Kolsch was surprisingly good. Loved the spicy kick without it being too overpowering. The Juniperous IPA was my favorite of the visit, but honestly, all of their brews were fantastic. Super close to the stadiums and plenty of parking in the lot across the street. They also have a lot of outdoor seating-- looking forward to a warmer weather visit! read more

This place is so cute! I first heard about Checkerspot Brewing while attending the Baltimore Craft Beer Festival. The owner, Judy, has a PhD in microbiology from Johns Hopkins and started the brewery after brewing beer in her basement. Beyond being impressed with her incredible story, I'm always happy to support a local woman-owned brewery. I tried the "Lady Boss" brew at the festival and was hooked! I finally got a chance to visit the brewery a couple weekends ago and brought along a few pals. I got the Locally Delicious sour which was tart and very fruity! We also ordered some soft pretzels which, to our delight, came in the shape of butterflies. So cute! I'm sure this is a prime spot to be in on game days too since they have a large parking lot across the street. I will definitely be back to try more of the brews and support this amazing business! read more

Just went to Checkerspot with a group and enjoyed the beer and setting. One thing that surprised me is their charging policy for single pint cans to take home. I didn't notice that I was charged the same price for two drafts with tip and for two pint cans which I took home (bartender added a tip without my catching the charge). He asked me if I wanted a bag for the cans so he knew that I wasn't drinking them at Checkerspot. When I called about the charge the Checkerspot employee confirmed that they charge the same for a take-away single pint can as they charge for a draft pint. Lesson learned - buy a four pack of beer rather than single cans to avoid overpaying. Update to my first review - the owner contacted me to let me know that the owners plan to ensure customers understand Checkerspot's pricing policy. The owner was so helpful and offered a refund or a free four pack. Great customer service and responsiveness. read more
