Awesome venue! The beer is delicious and there plenty of room for large parties. Theres also a small menu for food- we got a pizza it was pretty good! Had a great time here, will definitely be coming back!

Checkerspot Brewery is off the beaten path, but a few blocks away from the stadium where the Ravens play. It is huge, has an elongated bar, plenty of seating, and an upstairs arcade. The service was great and the beer was even better. The BEER: Bella Birra Italian Pils 5.3% ABV... Oh wow! Pils with a hint of lemon, no very crushable. Delicately crafted and delicious Bird is the Word honey Kolsch 5.5% ABV... it is a kolsch. Didn't catch the honey on the 1st sip, but once it got warmer, the flavors were there 395 Rye amber Lager 5.4% ABV... this is a keeper, clean mouth feel, bold layered flavors. A solid, totally crushable, all day beer Barleywine 11% ABV... oh yum, prunes, lemon, a little boozy, but equally delicious They have some food options here. I didn't partake, but there was a reuben, and a hummus platter I might try on my next visit. The beer at Checkerspot is topnotch.

This is a cute spot. Very open and spacious. There is an arcade upstairs with pinball machines. They serve small bites. One of my favorites is the flat bread pizza. The craft beer selection is really good. There is something for everyone. The staff is very friendly. This woman owned local spot is great place to grab a beer and catch up with friends. Also they are dog friendly.

This is one of my favorite breweries in Baltimore. It's a plus that it's woman-owned and dog-friendly. They always seem to be having exciting new events so always keep a lookout on their Facebook page. The beers they have on tap are very diverse and constantly rotating. They are appropriate for almost every palette. If you're unsure, they allow you to try a sample of the beer before actually purchasing it. They have everything from IPAs to lagers with very unique flavor profiles and names. The beers are relatively cheap. They have a second floor for extra seating and a ton of board games. They have a unisex bathroom, which happened to be very clean to my surprise. In regards to food, they do allow you to bring outside food, but they also have a small New Orleans-style food menu as well. I got the Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya ($14) which was good, but the portion was so small for the price you pay. I also got the Spicy Shrimp Remoulade Wrap ($14) which was not as flavorful, but came with chips and a slice of pickle.

    Bathroom - Cute!

my first time here and it was a lovely time. BISM hosted a fundraising event for the blind industries and I had a ball. The beer options were cheap and very tasty. I saw food but didn't get a chance to order due to socializing. The service was quick and friendly. Dog friendly lots of dogs and dog treats around. I would def return. The bathrooms and everywhere were clean and inviting. the space opened up and it was light and air flowed through nicely. I'll be back!

I absolutely loved coming here. It was completely random and I just so happen to pass the restaurant while I was on my way to an event. The event just happened to start late so I stopped in there to just hang out. It's a great spot to relax and listen to some good music. They play such an eclectic mix of music. It was great. They have a bunch of different flavors of beers and for me, a non-beer drinker, I even got a cup of beer and it was delicious. The staff was really helpful with letting me know what beers they have on top, when they do tours of the brewery, and just the overall theme of the restaurant. The bartender helped me decide what beer I might like for somebody who doesn't like the taste of beer and he was spot on. They do have food there, but it's a very limited menu and it's a different type of set up. So it's not a typical restaurant where you go in and you order with a waiter and they deliver your food. It's literally a hole in the wall window that you order from. Even with that though the food was good. It's pretty much typical bar food. I ended up getting pretzel bites with cheese and potato chips and onion dip. I really like that the restaurant allows you to bring your dogs in. They have dog treats in a lot of different areas of the restaurant. It's really nice because they have a huge floor to ceiling window that you can look into and see all of the brewing equipment that they use. They also have some arcade games upstairs. I think my favorite part was that each stall in the bathroom had its own unique theme. Go check this place out for yourself!

This was my first time coming to the new location. I had been to the other spot they had before a while back but didn't really remember it. This one was easy to locate right off the highway in an industrial area. There was plenty of street parking as well as parking on the side in the lot they share with neighboring businesses. I would assume the other businesses are closed during evening hours since there was so much parking available. The inside was very spacious with plenty of open seating. Came in on a Thursday night that meet a couple of coworkers and it wasn't crowded. They do serve food but the menu is limited. I think all of their beers are brewed in house. Some and great and some are a little weird. They will allow you to have small samples before you order a full sized glass. I say try a few until you find one you like. They have trivia nights and other special events so check out their website.

Great beers and good food! There is a great selection of beers, from stouts to sours, lagers to IPAs. Every beer was made with thought. They have an amazing sour called Sip Happens made with Earl Grey tea and lemon. Even if you don't like sours, you might like this one - it turned many in our group! The food is decent. Not amazing and pretty basic but does what is needed if you're drinking beers. The brewery itself is quite large, but can get loud when it's crowded. We saw a celebration of life, a birthday AND a running group meet up on our visit, which makes me think it's pretty integrated into the community.

This is absolutely my favorite brewery in South Baltimore, if not all of Maryland. The welcoming atmosphere, the friendly staff and hands down the best beer I've ever had all come together to make it one of my favorite places to be. It's great before a game, on a Sunday afternoon, or after work with friends. They're inclusive and community focused, and have done a ton for the area around the brewery. They also do so much to help worthy causes like BARCS, Second Chance, community cleanup, and Baltimore Compost Collective to name a few. It really is a special place that I'm proud to be a regular!

I had a lovely time checking out this brewery right by the Orioles and Ravens stadium. I have been wanting to check out h the brewery for a while because their beers are sold at the Oriole's Stadium and who doesn't love Baltimorean beer?! When I visited, there was a cute Valentine's Day Market featuring many local businesses. Beyond the shops, I had a great time talk to the bartender and figuring out what beer I should try based on my taste preferences. Overall, I had a relaxing time at the brewery with friends :) The restrooms are clean and organized, I love how the women's restroom is baseball themed! One caveat would be that there is very limited parking, a small parking lot on the property is there but it's not well marked and there are not many clear signs of where to park. But I managed to find parking in the adjacent streets. Con; limited parking not clear signs on where to park

Live band area and extra seating.

I went to the grand opening of Checkerspot Brewing Co. in Pigtown! This is a female owned brewery so everyone should come out and support this amazing brewery. Beers: With 13 brews to choose from, I went with Sip Happens, the lone sour on the menu. I highly recommend it to people who prefer wine over beer. It doesn't remind me of a traditional beer because this sour has a hint of tea in it. Service: It's the grad opening, so it's really busy. Overall the staff here is friendly. Ambiance: A really cool beer hall. I can see everyone in the neighborhood coming here to hang out before an O's or Ravens game. It's conviently located 3 blocks from M&T stadium. The owner thought of everything, there's a kids area on the second floor to distract the kids while the parents enjoy themselves. There's live music, outdoor seating and local food trucks.

Excellent beer!!! This is a great brewery with cool decor and friendly staff. We loved the beer selection. Would definitely like to try on a weekend.

    Fantastic Reubens here

I give Checkerspot the same number of stars as the number of happy dogs inside just enjoying the company of each other and the humans around them. I think being dog-friendly always improves the atmosphere of a brewery. But on to the food and drink. My only disappointment was that there was just a single dark beer, the Barrel Aged Berar, but I have zero objections to it coming in a 22 oz. bottle. Even better, I had the option of variations finished in either bourbon or rye. My drinking companions were equally satisfied, if not more, with their selections (and for most of those, you have a number of pour options). As for the food - I got the Reuben, and I have to say it was the best Reuben I have had in YEARS. The meat was lean and juicy, and the bread was not greasy at all. Other restaurants and diners should learn from these folks. There's also plenty of outdoor space, including cornhold boards, and plenty of swag inside to enhance your visit(s) here.

And I love that they give back to the community in areas such as education, community and philanthropy. Stopped in this past Saturday with a bunch of my gym friends. I love that their tap list offers a little bit of everything for everyone, from classic lagers and IPA to house ciders. I am a Pilsner girl, so their Pilsner was my fave. I love that they do weekly events such as Trivia and open mic nights to name a few as well as host a few several food trucks out back. Oh and this is the spot where they have that really nice flea market as well. You have to check their Instagram page to see which food trucks will be serving food. Saturday they had empanadas from Aru Aru, which were very yummy and made fresh to order. Best spot if you are a beer connoisseur, great place for happy hours and is accommodating for large parties. Plus you bring your own cards and board games to play as well. I will so definitely return.

The old church and architecture is so warm and inviting-- it was still decorated and lit for Christmas so it felt extra festive. It WAS weird to see the brew tanks at the front of the old church, where the altar would have been. But it also places the beer on the altar of our Friday night so I was OK with that. I had an American Pale Ale, the husband had a Kolsch. My beer was exceptional and delicious. My husband said the kolsch was OK. They also have a cute space with books and board games! As well as a cool merchandise wall with excellent cool t-shirts. I had to restrain myself. There is no kitchen or food served here. Order at the bar and sit where you want, there are plenty of tables and a lot of elbow space. The folks at the bar are Super Nice and you should tip them well. They told me there is usually a food truck that shows up at an undisclosed time in the evening. We did order some fantastic pretzels (w/ smoked gouda) and waited some more but ultimately had to go find a meal elsewhere. We will be back, perhaps in warmer weather to wait out the food truck and have more beer. Also, we were there for happy hour so our beers were $5! Thank you to all of the kind people at The Ministry of Brewing! We will be back.

What a fun brewery!…read more My brother had a birthday gathering here this year - we were able to comfortably seat a group of 15-20 people in the outdoor picnic section area. Highly recommend this spot for groups looking for a place to gather and socialize. The space is deceivingly large; there are multiple indoor spaces all within a quick stride from a long bar with dozens of beer taps. The outdoor space is even larger than what's available indoors; their vast street level patio/deck space is full of picnic tables and benches that are perfect for larger groups when the weather is nice. And yes, their outdoor patio is pet friendly. While the brewery itself doesn't serve food, there was a food truck (that looked to be there quite often) set up in the outdoor area that had several good options. I had their burger and fries which was exactly what I needed after an afternoon of brews. The beer itself was tasty; I had several of their hazy IPA's which I've grown to enjoy. They also offer a very solid selection of N/A beer options; some of the folks in our group enjoyed them and gave them great reviews. I didn't get a chance to check out the arcade portion of the brewery, but yes, this is a barcade as well. If you're looking for an inclusive, energetic brewery to check out, definitely keep Peabody on your list.

Guilford Hall: Profs & Pints…read more I went to the Profs & Pints event that's hosted at Guilford Hall. So this is a 2 in 1 review. Food: Black Garlic Truffle fries: really great balanced flavors. My only complaint is the fries could've been a little crispier but that could be due to the long line of orders, it may have been waiting under the lamps because the kitchen is filling orders for both upstairs and downstairs. The truffle sauce was like an earthy, Smokey bbq sauce. I really enjoyed the flavor. Reuben Eggrolls - BOMB! So juicy, perfectly fried. I tried it with and without the house mustard sauce. It's good on its own but the mustard sauce kicks it up a notch. I've seen so many versions of cheesesteak Eggrolls, crab egg rolls, etc it's done to death in my opinion. But a REUBEN EGGROLL ?? amazing, that's the innovative thinking I like to see. And if you don't like grilled Reuben's .... Grow up House salad: I added grilled shrimp and the house creamy ceaser dressing. The shrimp was grilled perfectly, great flavors, not too salty or over seasoned. Just right. The dressing was a solid Caesar dressing and same for the salad itself. A solid house salad. I love the new menu design, so much more elevated and well thought out. If you're not a beer drinker or don't know a lot about beers, the menu provides you with recommended beer pairings for each item. They also have a new chef. I loved the old chef, I had so many personal faves on the menu so I was a little bit hesitant. But I'm intrigued about some of the new items they've added to the menu. And although I've only tried a few things tonight, I'd say so far so good. I'll be back. Ambiance: Guilford Hall is honestly a hidden gem. The venue and architecture is gorgeous. You have the main restaurant downstairs and the event space upstairs. They host so many different events as well so I would recommend checking out their events page. Service: I'd they the service was the only gripe I had. And I don't mean the servers themselves, They're great and work very hard. My gripe is with the lack of adequate staffing for the event. They only had two servers taking orders for a very full event. So unfortunately it took a long time to get your order taken. You can order at the bar but the bartenders always insist that you order at the table, which again can take forever, so people go to the bar ...... lol it's a losing game. So I'd say get there at the very beginning before the venue fills up and get your food order in or don't go on an empty stomach like I did Now for the event itself. If you've never been to profs & pints I highly recommend. There's so many interesting topics to choose from. Speaker: Dr. Todd B. Kashdan Topic: The Science of Curiosity He was a very personable and engaging, and had great delivery with the perfect balance of insight and humor. He incorporated break out sessions to encourage the audience to interact with the people at their tables. It's open seating so great for connecting with strangers. I loved his perspective. He had great presence and took a relaxed/humble yet confident approach to public speaking. A key take away for me is to remember to turn your curiosity inward without judgement. Like what would you if no one was watching and you weren't thinking about what other people think. Your initial impressions of people are often wrong and you close the door too quickly. Assuming perspective instead of getting someone's perspective because you're seeing this as a representation of one monolithic idea as opposed to understanding who they actually are. This was in relation to a question someone asked about Race and who defines what is vs what things could actually be. And how when we have more of these conversations instead of avoiding them that leads to a more open world with less isms, bullying, prejudice, etc. All in all a great night. I highly recommend.

There is a casual darts league - walk-ins are welcome to play, just try throwing some darts (there are darts available you can use, or bring your own steel tip darts) or just hang out and get a feel for the place. Our party grabbed a high top table, but that was tricky with our littlest, so we went outside to the patio. While in the winter they have some space heaters to make it more pleasant, they only cover a small amount of the patio. We were far from the only folks with kiddos (a lot of babies and toddlers around), which is why I was surprised I didn't see any high chairs or booster seats. Just be aware if you bring littles. I imagine the patio is probably a lot better in the warmer months, but be aware that there's not much indoor space in colder weather. The pizza was probably the best part of the visit. Their "plain" cheese, the "Formaggio" is a 5-cheese blend that we enjoyed, especially Child #1 and Child #3. We also enjoyed our pepperoni pizza (sorry, Child #2, no olives as a topping). My wife got the chicken tenders for Child #3 and they both shared it - said it was solid. My friends got the pretzels with their Jersey Pizza and the one piece I had was good - sweet and salty glaze; I just wish there were more to eat. The beers were okay. My wife and I are fond of sours, so we got the Peach Cobbler Sour and the Black Shadows wild ale. My wife commented how the peach cobbler sour was surprisingly bitter. The Black Shadows was quite funky. It's not for everyone but if you like wild/sour/funky beers, it's worth a try. Overall not bad.

I was able to hang out at the bar and sample a couple different curations from Jordan and a new cocktail making its way to the menu. Big thanks to Kevin who more than graciously provided me with samples to help me figure out what would be my sipper for the evening. They have a beer that smells exactly like weed. Now that's either your thing or not lol. I had to sample and it definitely gave what it was intended to give. Did you say sample a new cocktail coming soon to the menu? Why yes, I will every time. It did not miss! You know we Yelpers love having the chance to try something first! Two L's (sp) me anytime, please. I also love the graffiti decor, (see pictures) which depicts depth and originality throughout the brewery. There's also multiple items for purchase from local artists that is displayed throughout as well. There is a lot of space so think about hosting an event here if you need an area. They also have those bay doors and a seating area beyond them which could definitely be a private area. They are also dog friendly so bring your companion as long as they're sociable. They also have a food menu and pop ups looks different items from time to time so make sure to stay in the know so you don't miss out on something special. Make sure to enter in the doors at 3:00 if you're standing directly in front of the purple Wico sign. It isn't around the corner, just turn your head to the right and you'll see the clear doors there. Don't miss them and walk all the way around the corner or getting your car and drive around the corner either SMH I can definitely see myself coming back to enjoy one of their events or just hang out with good company at the bar.

When we arrived, we were seated right away, but it seemed like there were very few staff working--possibly only one waiter. It took about 10 minutes before we finally had to flag him down just to place our order. The food then took around 25-30 minutes to come out, which felt very long since we were on a tight schedule for our flight. When the food finally arrived, I ordered the macaroni and cheese, and unfortunately it was the worst mac and cheese I've ever had. I don't want to be mean, but it was very bland and really needed salt. My sister surprisingly liked it, but it just wasn't for me at all. The rest of my family did enjoy their meals, and I thought the fries were decent, just lightly seasoned. My mom especially liked the grilled cheese. The waiter himself was nice and kept our drinks refilled, so I don't think the long wait was entirely his fault. The restaurant is very cute inside with cozy, old-style vibes and festive Christmas decorations, which I really liked. However, between the long wait times, the limited menu, and my disappointing mac and cheese, I wouldn't recommend that dish. Overall, it's a charming place, but the service was too slow for us--especially when trying to catch a flight.
