I had a true 5-star experience at Nepenthe. A few weeks ago, I visited Nepenthe for a happy hour at work and had the chance to meet Chef Andrew. During our conversation, I mentioned that my wife absolutely loved a specialty burger from his previous restaurant. That restaurant closed several years ago, and the burger isn't on Nepenthe's menu. Without hesitation, Chef Andrew told me that if I gave him some advance notice and brought her in, he would get the ingredients and make it especially for her. So that's exactly what I did for her birthday. When the burger arrived, my wife was genuinely surprised. Chef Andrew even added a candle to the plate to make the occasion extra special. The burger was everything she remembered. She often says she compares every burger she eats to that one, but had resigned herself to the idea that she'd never have it again. Bravo, Chef Andrew. What makes this story even more remarkable is that I had only met him once before. This wasn't something I asked him to do--he was the one who suggested it. That's the kind of hospitality is something I'll never forget. The food at Nepenthe is consistently good, and the atmosphere is fun, lively, and full of energy. Nepenthe Brewing is a great place for vegans and non drinkers. Seem weird for a brewing company? Maybe, but they make it work well and that is why I'm a fan. Nepenthe Brewing has a rotating menu of inspired vegan dishes. This isn't your typical burger and fry brewery. We've visited for date nights, during vegan week, with kids and without. Each time, Nepenthe has not disappointed. Some of the dishes my family and I have enjoyed here are the Killer Tofu (top notch), Crispy Mushroom Banh Mi, Berry Smashed Mocktail, Lemon-Blueberry Cake and, for the kids, the fries with vegan pub dipping sauce. As long as Nepenthe keeps putting forth unique vegan food and mocktails, my family and I will keep it a part of our rotation. read more

There are many cute bars in Hampden. During my time there this past weekend I decided to try this Brewery. It is a great brewery. They have very tasty beers and cocktails. And they aren't too expensive. At the Brewery they also offer food, and they have games you can play while you are drinking. It is a great Sunday afternoon meet up spot. I was able to try one of their cocktails which was great. It had a good taste too it...not too sweet and not too bitter. It was a great time. I hope to be back soon. read more

Popped into Nepenthe last night for the first time in a long time and I was reminded that I need to come here more often! It was close to closing but we were able to snag a bar seat and grab one round of drinks. I got the spiked hot cider cocktail and my boyfriend got a pint of the mallet beer. He was able to try a few tasters of the kolsch and lager before choosing, which was nice. The bartender, John, was super friendly and helpful. The space is huge and would be great for a large group gathering. I was impressed with how vast the food menu was and how delicious everything looked - I definitely need to return to give the food another chance. Items were clearly marked vegan and gluten free, too. The vibe could easily have swayed towards bro-ey, if you catch my drift, but the music balanced things out with Britney Spears, Marina and the Diamonds, and Lady Gaga. Kudos to whoever was on aux. I had a desire to get a nice cold one on a warm summer day so I decided to walk to my neighborhood brewery. The vibe was chill and lowkey. A nice local brewery feel. When I was ready I walked up and placed an order. I got the space jellyfish ipa and a watermelon feta salad. The staff were attentive and friendly. Came here during Winter restaurant week because their offerings on that specific menu piqued my interest. It was also trivia night so it was pretty busy. I came a few minutes after 8pm thinking I could order off the menu because the kitchen closes at 8:30 only to be told while the kitchen does close at 8:30, the menu stopped at 8. Nepenthe Brewing was long on my list for breweries to try. When the opportunity arose I was super excited to get another brewery off of my list but also after further exploration I really liked the brewery concepts as far as their logos go. I say this because I love getting brewery swag. I love this kind of thing and I go sporting around in t-shirts and such from other breweries and occasionally it's a conversation starter and other times it's not. It's okay if it's not. The "Golden Age" of the craft brewery is dissipating and it seems kind of fast but it is what it is as alcohol consumption is decreasing and the popularity of it is decreasing. So I feel like I am grabbing the fumes of whatever breweries I can try before more diminish... and doing the swag wearing reminds me when things were a bit different... when we were a bit younger. Anyway getting to the primary point here. The beer! Steve and I had one of the beers from this brewery. It was the Cryomancer which was an American style IPA that we both liked the flavor profile of considerably. I have had IPA's that aren't all that exciting but the way this one tasted hit all the right spots and it felt like something new was brought to the table and to her our tastebuds. Flavor features in this beer are hoppiness, pine, bitter and subtle. The beer is light bodied which is nice as it doesn't make it too intense and it's pretty easy to drink more than one due to this non aggressive flavor profile ( or less so anyway). read more

There's like a mini-upstairs platform, a main floor area, and garage door seating (bay door opens up where you can people-watch or sit outside). A classic brewery slinging beers and really solid bar food. Their beers are great, they do tend to be IPA heavy with a few other types. The mallet is my go to, it's their version of a light beer, really mild and chuggable. I'm not a huge beer drinker and I enjoy it. Their wings are my favorite thing. They're crispy and steamy and their sauce could slap my grandma and I'd forgive it. So flavorful, so delicious. The nachos are also really good, and the burger is super solid too! First impressions, this is totally my scene. Vibrant, lively, great music, awesome service and TVs for sports. And the food coming out of the kitchen smelled amazing. I walked in, sat at the bar and was greeted by both servers. I felt welcome from the start and that made for a truly great experience. I liked that although it was a brewery, besides the craft beer, they had wine, spirits and some really cool mixed drinks. There is a little bit of something for everyone here. Scan the QR code for the full menu, but your servers can guide you as well. The food on the menu looked amazing, but I was feeling adventurous so I ordered the wings. If you like your wings with veggies, they don't offer any, but they did give me a choice of ranch or blue cheese. The wings were perfect. 8 glorious, well prepared wings. The BEER: Space Jelly IPA 7% ABV... Oh My Goodness! Let's Go!!! Juicy, not too sweet, fruit on the front, grass on the finish, quite dank and deceptively smooth. Doesn't taste like 7%. Muggle Juice spiced winter ale 7.5% ABV... ummm, yummm, pumpkin spice and delicious, better than a latte. Slightly boozy on the finish and really wonderful. Terminal Exodus Czech dark lager 4.8% ABV... so smooth, totally crushable and they serve it with a lot of head so you can get all that creamy Czech goodness Spontaneous Deviations #5 circa 2023 Barleywine 9.3% ABV... this is unbelievably smooth for a high ABV barleywine. I would call this Barleywine lite. It is really smooth, has a lighter mouth feel than most of the barley wines I have had. This is a keeper, as in keep it in your beer fridge and not just for special occasions. Polluted Sacruary west coast IPA 6% ABV... this west coast won me over, because I am not a West coast fan. Low in IBUs smooth, fruit forward with a piney and floral finish. This is awesomeness. Grim Tidings west coast DIPA 8.3%... a little boozy on the finish with some grapefruit notes. Werewolf death grip American Kolsch 5.5% ABV... not your typical kolsch, has way more body and I get botanical ls and a hint of cucumber. Mouth feel is heavier than a typical Kolsch. This is a gold medal beer. Cerebra session IPA 4.5% ABV... I didn't think I would like thus because normally session IPAs, So very crushable. This is a great summer beer! I did it all for chnookie pale ale 6.7% ABV...Soooo, definitely a West coast, all kinds of piney, but super low in IB US for a West Coast IPA. This is very good. More than Human West coast TIPA 10.2% ABV... All I can say is this is a perfectly balanced beer and if I didn't have to walk, talk and function properly, I could drink this all day. Drink 3 of these and you'll need a designated walker. So, in my limited experience Nepenthe Brewing Co has the best beer in Baltimore. Great service, great food and fantastic beer makes this a must visit if you want an awesome craft beer experience in Baltimore. This place was hopping at dinner on a Friday night, but we were able to find a table for 2 in the back. Even mix of tables, high tops, bar seating, with a couple of tables outside on the sidewalk too. Order at the bar and they'll bring the food out to your table. I appreciated that they had the O's game projected onto the wall and on a couple tvs. I got one of the cocktail specials- it was a light pour but tasty. My friend ordered a flight and his favorite was the porter. We tried the Korean cheesesteak, gojuchang chicken sandwich, and the buffalo garlic parm wings. Of the three, the buffalo garlic parm wings were my favorite. The cheesesteak was good but the chicken sandwich was somewhat boring. Love this place!! My boyfriend wanted to invite friends here for a birthday celebration. We were shocked that they were happy to accommodate up to 25 people for our reservation! We came on a Saturday in the mid-afternoon and the place was packed! Super vibrant and happy vibes all around. We got a whole bunch of flights to try. I've never been a beer fan, but I liked the espresso beer (not sure of the exact name). Fries were INCREDIBLE! So thick and crispy and savory. Genuinely perfect. I stopped by Nepenthe to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday evening. We had a group of 6 and were able to find a table to seat us. The brewery had a lively hum to it; there were lots of Orioles fans and college basketball fans there to watch the games and enjoy some drinks. I was happy to see that there were a few TV's scattered across the bar and a large projector on one wall. Overall, the atmosphere is really lively and friendly. The beer selection is pretty vast; I'm not a huge beer guy buy I was able to find a few selections that I liked. Of course, I started with a flight to get a taste of a few different varieties ($12-14ish bucks for four 3 oz pours). I then ordered quite a few of the 10oz pours for $5-7 bucks each. Then they have the full pint size for an additional few bucks. I like that they had these sizing options, allowed me to try a few different beers without feeling too full. Their IPAs were really nice - would definitely get them again. They also serve a limited selection of cocktails and mocktails, just in case beer isn't your thing. This place is really popular for their food. Our table tried a few different burgers, sandwiches, and bites. Overall, everyone loved their orders particularly the chicken sandwich options. Next time, I want to try the wings - they looked pretty great coming out of the back to other tables. The waitstaff were so friendly and helpful. As usual, I needed some help picking out beers to try; each person I talked to was so helpful and patient while helping me make a selection. The line to order more food or drinks moved quickly. There were plenty of staff to buss tables and keep the space clean. The whole operation was just really smooth. We stayed until closing time (10p on a Saturday) - everyone agreed that this was a great night out. The Baltimore hot chicken sandwich delivers a delicious flavor punch. The heat level is well balanced and not just hot for the sake of being hot. It has flavor! The slaw balances out the heat of the chicken and uses just the right amount of Old Bay to give an additional complimentary layer of flavor. It is served on a wonderful roll. You can also get fries. I had dinner this evening at Nepenthe Brewing in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. I won't make that mistake again. First of all today is my birthday so I wanted to do something nice. Second it is Baltimore Restaurant Week so I decided to try one of the participating restaurants. When I ordered they told me that it would be about 30 minutes for the food to come out. My partner got his appetizer and sandwich within 45 minutes of ordering. I got my appetizer about one hour after I ordered and I got my sandwich ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES AFTER I ORDERED. My partner's food was good, I tried it while I was waiting forever to get my own food. My food was awful. The combination of flavors sounded a bit adventurous on the menu but when I tasted the food it was literally awful. The loaded Mac and Cheese with barbecue sauce and jalapeno peppers was just disgusting. The Chimichurri cheesesteak again was an awful combination of flavors. I asked for a box for my sandwich by the time that I got it. Then dessert, how could they mess that up? My partner got the bread pudding and it was burned on the bottom, they didn't even bother to cut off the burnt part, they served it to him burned part and all. My dessert was sickeningly sweet, I got the ice cream sandwich and the combination of ice cream flavor and cookie just did not work together. Overall I would describe the food at Nepenthe with one word - YUCK. We did get one beer and the beer itself was fine. The food was not fine at all. The level of service was comically bad. They do have clean restrooms. Street parking. Never coming back here again ever. They should ban them from Baltimore Restaurant Week. read more

I organized our staff social event here and it was the perfect space. You can make a reservation up to 25 people which was a plus. I keep coming back here again and again. Some of my favorite food in the city. They make such craveable stuff. That Korean Cheesesteak? After I ran the Balti-Moron, that was THE thing I wanted to eat, alongside their delicious fries. You really can't go wrong with the food here. AND THEN there's the beers, which are varied and interesting, not to mention the cool special variants they bust out for events. It's a little heavy on IPAs usually, but there are enough other options (plus a full bar for cocktails and mocktails) that I think anyone would be happy here. Finally, the atmosphere is great. Most recently I picked up a fried chicken sandwich, the tofu banh mi, and some beers as a part of my Baltimore City Fried Chicken Championship. I really enjoy the beers at Nepenthe, they are consistent while at times whimsical. The physical space is great (when not in the midst of a global pandemic) to meet up with a large group of friends. I ordered their utterly gigantic fried chicken sandwich and thought it was nicely crunchy. I hate bread and butter pickles, so if you're like me and don't like sweet pickles, opt to have them removed. I'd also suggest extra aioli as it is a lot bread. Fantastic beer and even better food! We came in on a Sunday afternoon for a few tasters of beer and some lunch. The place was pretty chill and we picked a high top long table to sit at. Love this place. Love the drinks. Love the vibe. Love the events. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Food is spot on and tasty. Parking is street parking but can usually find a spot without to much driving around. Place is large and accommodating to groups of people. read more
