Waited 45 minutes. Okay, that's expected for a Saturday night. The onion rings appetizer was all batter, not much onion. I prefer more onion, but to each their own. It was still edible. But the dinner was just not good. Mushrooms and green beans very clearly came out of a can. Dijon cream on my chicken was literally just dijon mustard with nothing added to it, and it was wayyy too much. Chicken was nothing too special. The broccoli cheese casserole had way too much cheese (I didn't even know that was possible) and it was just 2 pieces of broccoli with some rice. The baked potato was good, but I'm not sure how you could mess that up. My friend also didn't get his salad until after the meal was over. All in all, the meal wasn't all too edible. The service was pretty good though, waitress was nice. But I don't think I'll be back again. Our party of 4 arrived right before 5:00 tonight (Saturday). The hostess was having a horrible time finding seating for the couple ahead of us even though the restaurant was not crowded and plenty of seating available. She must have been new. We we finally seated at a table and ordered. I ordered the cornmeal fish dinner which is usually very good and also ordered the loaded baked potato. What I received were 4 tiny pieces of over cooked fish drenched in grease. The grease had an old taste and was bitter. The small "loaded" potato had a teaspoon of sour cream and a small amount of cheese on it. No butter. I had the manager come over to look at my plate and I asked her if this was what they would normally serve. I politely explained that the fish was not good and why. She told me that they fry the fish and chicken using the same oil. My husband had a fried chicken salad and his chicken was not fried using the same oil. No restaurant uses the same oil to fry chicken and fish. I ordered the chicken pot pie to replace the fish dinner I had been looking forward to. I no more than get my pot pie when my mother-in-law cuts into the middle of her chicken fried chicken and discovers that it is raw. She didn't want to make a big deal about this and wanted just to eat around it but this was getting to be ridiculous. The manager again came over to our table and could see for herself that the chicken was indeed raw. We looked like complainers but this was just so bad all the way around that I really didn't care. My mother-in-law didn't want to order anything else but was given a small coconut cake for the trouble. We have never had a bad meal at Cheddars but this was just a horrible experience. Got here right at 11 am when they opened and the place quickly filled up. We were just passing through IA and after reading the reviews were a little afraid of trying this place but was glad we did. The tortilla soup was very good as well as the rest of the food we ordered. The only thing strange was that our cheese never melted despite our food being served hot. The service was good and our food arrived quickly. The place was clean as well as the restrooms. Will definitely eat here again when I'm in the area. read more

I like to go here if I'm feeling something on the same level as Applebee's. Most of the time we come for a dinner a little after the dinner rush and are seated within 10 min. Staff has been hit or miss - sometimes really good, sometimes terrible (like can be seen just talking to other staff instead of working terrible). Food is very good, I've never ordered anything I didn't like. Personal favorites are the chicken strips and blackened tilapia. Food comes out fairly quick, and if they get your sides wrong, and notice it before the food leaves the kitchen (which they have), they bring out your plate with the wrong sides AND your correct sides. If you tell them the sides are wrong they bring out the correct ones really fast (and when you can pick 2 of any of 8 or so sides there's bound to be a mistake once in awhile). I'd heard that this place was pretty good, so my sister and I gave it a shot last night. The parking lot was jam packed, but the restaurant itself is so massively huge that we only waited a couple if minutes for a table. Cheddar's is called a 'casual cafe,' and it definitely draws a family crowd. The ambiance clashes with the menu of reasonably priced American home style staples. The lack of lighting, decorative ceiling fans, and minimalist decor suggest a more upscale place, which was a little weird for 'casual dining.' Service was fine; our waitress was friendly, and in spite of the crowds, service was quick. We ordered mozzarella sticks and chips with queso (beef with the cheese sauce is a FREE option, and we took it!), and these were good. I got the New Orleans Pasta, pretty good except for the hot dog chunks in it? Take those out and I'd recommend it. The Texas toast was delicious. My sister was pleased with her chicken strips and steak combo plate. We were far too full for dessert and both took home leftovers. A good option for an affordable dinner AFTER a day of shopping...we went to the mall after and were too full to shop properly. My biggest issue with Cheddar's is that they're trying to be too much. Match up the decor with the menu and this could be a classic American restaurant. 3/5 read more

This is a place I really enjoy eating at. When they first opened, the service wasn't the best and the food, although quite delicious, took awhile to come out. That is to be expected of a new restaraunt though. Now, when I stop by for the occasional meal I am impressed with the service and the amount of time it takes for the food. Stopped in on our way through town, looking for a kid-friendly place. Other than an awkward interaction with the hostess, the experience was good. The food came out quickly and our server was super friendly with our children. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. There were other families there too, so we didn't feel like we were disruptive to other diners. Oh, and the fish tank was cool, but you felt in the way of the servers when checking it out. Garbage. It took 30 minutes to get water. They werent even going through a dinner rush. 15 minutes to get a side of ranch. A complete hour to get our food. When I got my chicken sandwhich the chicken was not cooked all the way through and my wifes chicken was over cooked and was dry. Our daughter was hungry and it was difficult to get food for her without her starving through it. The prices drew us in to try the place and I would rather pay more for anywhere else that cares about good service and good food. It is now an hr and a half and we havent recieved the bill yet. First impressions are everything. My first time here I walk through the door to see 5 servers huddling the hosts stand and not a single one looked up or welcomed us. We were visiting from out of town for Mother's Day and decided to go to this restaurant as our family members had recommended it to us in the past. We called 10 minutes before arrival and were told that there was next to no wait time, but by the time we arrived were told that the wait time for our party of six was going to be 10 to 15 minutes. After waiting 25 minutes and seeing that there was no likely opportunity to be seated soon, we approached the hostess stand and were told that there was yet another party of six in front of us and they couldn't estimate when we might be seated. We were waiting with a toddler, so given the circumstances had to leave and then rush to find A different place to eat. When I called to speak with the manager I was told was sorry, somebody should've updated you (of course my thought precisely, but instead the staff continue to just stand around and twiddle their thumbs). Incredible family restaurant. Really great homemade food for an exceptional price. You can take your family out to eat and not break the bank. The portion sizes are large enough to take home a portion for lunch the following day. This is now our family favorite restaurant in the Corridor area. The Monte Cristo sandwich is fantastic. One of the best I have ever had. Don't forget the 'Cheddars' sauce for the French fries. The ribs fall off the bone and are better than the steak houses in the area. We had a terrible evening at Cheddars on Sunday evening. Ten of us went there to celebrate a birthday. It was a fiasco. First we were seated then no one ever came to take our order. We had to ask 2 different people and wait over a half hour before someone came. The servers were apologetic but things got worse. When the entrees came, only 6 of 10 of them came out. The others didn't come for over 20 minutes again after we had to keep asking for them. We never saw a manager anywhere. It was ridiculous. Other tables near us had issues and were complaining. The servers were pleasant and did take the late entrees off the bill but that did not make up for the inconvenience of the very mismanaged meal. read more

We went to Cheddars for the first time on a Saturday night with 2 other couples our wait time was short about 15 min for a busy night. We were seated in the bar area and ordered drinks, we ordered 2 waters, 5 of us ordered custom Cheddars cocktails and 1 ordered scotch. When the waiter was asked about their scotch collection the waiter replied "I do not know I'm not really a scotch drinker". We reviewed the menu and ordered a Chivas scotch. Our waiter left with the order he came back shortly after asking again what kind of scotch he requested stating he must have wrote it down wrong because he could not find it we showed him in the menu the exact name. The waiter left and shortly returned again stating they were out of their signature "painkiller" cocktail 2 of us had ordered. Which we assumed is just a premixed drink so they reviewed the drink menu again and the waiter stated there was one cocktail he would not get because it tasted like watered down cappuccino. After we for our drinks figured out they were all brought and the waiter forgot to bring the waters. We ordered our food, onion rings and the triple treat sampler to start. The onion rings were basic battered onion rings however there was a large portion stacked up. For our main course we ordered the chicken tender platter with fries and a croissant, salmon with croissant and mashed potatoes and gravy, steak medium and grilled shrimp with mashed potatoes and gravy and baby carrots, steak medium and tenders with fries and croissant, steak medium and ribs with house salad and croissant and chicken pot pie with Caesar salad. After taking the order our waiter returned shortly informing us they were also out of ribs so that was exchanged for grilled shrimp. The salads came out first the house salad was nothing special lettuce shredded carrots and croutons, the Caesar salad was heavily dressed. Our food came out about 30 minutes later. The chicken strip platter was a large portion however the strips were not anything special as far as homemade breading etc, the salmon got a good review however was missing the croissant, the pot pie was good the breading was crispy however the inside filling tasted as if it was from a can there was also a croissant on the plate that was not ordered, the steak meals came out all 3 steaks were small portions and terribly overcooked no pink at all for a medium temperature. One dish also of steak and shrimp came out with chicken tenders instead and when we told the waiter it was incorrect he replied "J/K" and returned shortly with the correct plate. There were 3 small shrimp on each plate also. After our meal our waiter did not clear our plates and we did not order dessert. Bottom line is we were highly disappointed in the quality of service and knowledge/professionalism in the waiter. The restaurant seemed very loud with people talking and the bar area was not even filled. We were disappointed in the food as far as quality and steak size we would much rather spend our money elsewhere for the same price getting a better quality down the road at a different restaurant. read more

Decided to give this new restaurant a second try one month after the first visit to see if things had improved. They haven't. This time the service was terrible, shrugged shoulder response to the question "what's good/popular/what do you recommend?" and no refills on drinks or water offered, waitress obviously didn't want to be there. Food was even worse than last time. Shepherd's pie that tasted like they dropped an entire salt shaker and Lawry's seasoned salt shaker in it, tasteless chicken fried chicken that was obviously re-dropped in the oil to warm it, making it taste only like oil. No croissants available at all, because they burnt them, and in one hour they still hadn't made new ones. The salad was so pathetic last time I didn't even bother. Dessert served in a shot glass served with a soup spoon that didn't fit in the shot glass. Really? I can't believe they can't get things together because all processed food must come pre-made on a truck..all they have to do is warm it (food was lukewarm when served, unlike completely cold last time), and serve it. Would consider take out if the food was good, but the only option is to dine in and shout at the person sitting with you as the music and atmosphere are too loud to have a quiet conversation. Not going back unless things drastically change. read more
