Worst Thai or Chinese food I've ever had and I've had a lot and cooked a lot at home. We ate here Sunday night while camping. They were packed and had a buffet so we thought it might be a gem. It looked ok and had a couple popular Thai dishes on it including chicken pad Thai, plus crab rangoons. My 11yo son & I ordered that and my husband and our older daughters ordered off the menu. The only thing good & fresh tasting was the egg drop soup with cabbage. But otherwise, everything tasted the same and heavy and was gloppy & gooey. My oldest daughter works at a Thai restaurant and said it all had too much MSG, and I think too much corn starch. Even the rangoons weren't good - they were oddly sweet. My husband ordered generals chicken, which he said it was basically fatty chicken thigh fried with little flavor. The fried rice was not done right - it looked like it had a bunch of soy sauce splashed on it but it was very oily. My son couldn't finish any of what he took off the buffet and after he chomped on some gristle he got grossed out. The portions were huge so we had tons of leftovers...but nobody wanted them the next day. The decorations were nice but the carpet was dirty. The watermelon chunks were floating in a pool of melted ice water - definitely not eating that. read more

Eating here has been an annual summet vacation tradition for over 20 years. A tradition that sadly has come to an end. I had the Pad Ped. It had a decent flavor, but the chicken meat was tough and tasteless. The fried rice was like white rice with soy sauce. My wife had the crispy chicken. It tasted rancid and it and the sauce were flavorless. The best part of the whole meal was the wonton soup. They seemed to have plenty of customers. The best egg drop soup among any of the Chinese restaurants I have visited anywhere. Staff are warm and welcoming, helpful and kind. The food is amazing. Have not had a single dish I did not like, and I have enjoyed dishes from most of the menu in the past 20 years. The prices have been great through the years - less than even what McDonalds or Subway costs, and SO much more food and better quality. Though the booths could use a little work to make them comfortable again, the inside of the restaurant is cute, and certainly reflects the culture. It's obvious that most people that go to this place do not understand they are getting ripped off. Any Chinese places I've been to when you order you get soup with your meal and fried rice with option of chicken or shrimp, pork with NO added cost, plus an egg roll as well. Husband said the Pad Thai was exceptional. The general tso's was awful. The fried rice is like Mexican rice that's fried - super odd and not good. I couldn't eat my meal. Maybe just stick with the Pad Thai. read more

It's a small town place with decent flavor. I ordered the sesame chicken on two different occasions and each time tasted different. The chicken was breaded different each time. They seem to be busy from what I can tell so the service is not quite there. Sizzling rice soup is not a traditional sizzling rice in fact there wasn't any rice in it. The egg drop is more a egg white with cabbage and broth. All in all not bad and not totally amercanized Chinese either. read more

For a small town my Pad Thai was very satisfying - but there were no peanuts and it would have been nicer with some Cilantro and a wedge of lime. But they did have Sriracha so I was fine. It's not as good as my own Pad Thai, or anything I'd find in a Thai restaurant in, say, San Francisco, but for Rogers City it was what I expected. Don't let Christopher M's review put you off - the rice comes WITH the Pad Thai, not INSTEAD of rice noodles. It's just extra food if you ask me and you have a choice of white rice or fried rice. Hey, why not? I happened to like the egg drop soup with the cabbage in it. It was hot and satisfying. If I had stayed in RC another day, I would have gone right back to Chee Peng. read more

The gem in Rogers City, Chee Peng Chinese and Thai Restaurant get five stars from me. It has a beautiful atmosphere of artwork and is the cleanest restaurant, I have seen. I stopped by about 7:30 p.m. on Monday to dine in, not realizing they close at 8 p.m., so I ordered take out. As I waited for my food, I was offered hot soup and tea, at a dine in table. The soup was hot and delicious with cabbage, bok choy, greens and chicken and it was seasoned to perfection. I ordered the House LoMein, which was filled with shrimp, pork and tasty noodles. My husband and son had the General Tso Chicken, fried rice and soup. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The Owner is very nice and the food is excellent, highly recommend it. read more

I was excited for my take-out order from here (about two weeks ago), but it was just okay. I would probably give it 2.5 stars instead of 2. First... The egg roll was delicious! I rarely find an egg roll that I like, and although this wasn't my favorite version, I would definitely get it again. I also ordered the sweet and sour pork with fried rice and a side of egg drop soup. The pork and fried rice I would not order again. There wasn't much flavor to any aspect of it, even the sauce. The egg drop soup was okay, but SO MUCH shredded cabbage. I think it would be much better if they just cut the amount of cabbage in half. It was overwhelming. The second experience I had was just for an order of crab rangoon. I like plump rangoons and these were a bit skimpy on the filling. They were tasty though for what was there. Would I go back? Maybe. I love Chee Peng! I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and prefer this one over all the others. The buffet is a small one, but the choices provided are excellent. I love the flavor and cabbage in the egg drop soup and the fact that it isn't thick like gravy like some I've had at other Chinese restaurants. First, given that it's located in a city of fewer than 3000 it was darned good. I have a favorite Thai restaurant that I go to and they make the food there "Thai hot" for me, so I opted for Chinese and got the Szechuan beef with veggies. I asked how hot they would make it and the waiter said they could 'spice it up for me.' It was very good, but more on the order of between medium and hot compared to what I'm used to. However, it was quite tasty. My wife doesn't like hot food, so she got beef and peapods and liked it a lot. She got the egg drop soup and enjoyed it and I got the hot and sour soup, which had more chicken in it than I'm used to. In fact, most of the hot and sour soup I get had chicken boullon and tofu but no actual chicken. It was also 'spiced up' but nowhere near as hot as, say, Thai Tom Yum. We got the steamed rice and it was fluffy. light, and just right. The restaurant was neat and clean, with an uncluttered decor and Chinese music in the background but not nearly loud enough to hinder quiet conversation. It was nice. The wait staff [we had a young man] was quick, friendly, and efficient. Some of the best service I've enjoyed in some time. I've had worse service in very high end restaurants. The place was about 3/4 full on a Friday night during tourist season [but not their big fesitval]. The bus staff was quick to clear and clean tables and set them up again. All the staff seemed to keep an eye on everyone, so I never had to signal our waiter. I was quite pleased. It seems to seat around 50-60. Overall I rate it quite good, would return, and would recommend it. I'm guessing the food is generally adjusted to Midwestern tastes [although I am Midwestern], and there is a large Polish [my wife is of Polish/Croat extraction] presence in the small community and that may influence the spicing of the dishes, too. I was most impressed by the service though. For a smallish, family style restaurant it was indeed excellent service. read more

Food is tasty but can't compare to the restaurants in the city. It is the only one within 38 miles so they stay busy. If you enjoy good Asian food , you will be disappointed. The Thai food can not compare to any Thai Restaurant I have eaten in. The Pad Thai is missing the crushed peanuts, peanut sauce, and sweet cucumber relish that is typical with Pad Thai.
