I use to love the reasturant, but the recent changes is just too much. You no longer get soup with carry out, now are charged $3 to upgrade your small side of rice to fried. The portions are now smaller. They were a beloved community reasturant where everyone loved to go and support, but now they're making it seem like a profit driven reasturant compared to what it was. After the last two times of me coming I won't be back. Everytime I've come to town this was our go to due to our family's love of the place for decades now. Im not sure if its sold to someone else, but they should go back to the way things were. I paid $50 for two lunch meals and potstickers. I got my favorite chicken dish and it was mostly breading and overly cooked hard to eat pieces. Ambiance - PHENOMENAL Food - MARVELOUS we came here at 3:30 in the afternoon and were the only ones here. Aili was our waitress and she was TOP NOTCH LEGENDARY. The tea - TOP NOOTCH. food and tea hit like how warm food hits when you're sick/when you come in from a long day of downhill skiing. There was another man eating here he seems chill. Absolutely the best kept secret of Alpena Michigan is this place, the Thai food is awesome. I cannot recommend anything curry though because I don't eat curry. I have taken three of my friends at different times and dates there and they loved the coconut curry. The price is $8.00 BUT $8.45 for house special it includes soup salad and a main dish enough for two meals one to take home because the leftovers are great or just share a meal. The Thai ice tea is super delicious. I love their pad Thai medium hot and their spicy fried rice full of veggies and I always add the house special which contains shrimp, chicken and pork! The Pad-see-ew had a creamy sauce instead of a dark soy sauce based one for some reason and the spicy Thai Szechuan curry was served with a super thin sauce. Cute little place off of one of the main roads. We were the ones there since we went between lunch and dinner. The place is just a little hole in the wall. Our waiter was great...attentive and very friendly. They have a small buffet but it wasn't up when we went. I had the chicken pad Thai and it was perfect. It came with egg drop and fried rice. Was pleasantly surprised!! Would have gotten more food had I known it would be delish. It was a good serving of food for a reasonable price. In town taking care of my mother and she was feeling like Chinese food. Her favorite place has been closed awhile and the 2nd place she suggested I called to make sure they were open and what the wait time would be- I could hear the eye roll of the girl on the phone so I kept looking and found this GEM!! Small but less than 2 miles from mom's house. 15 minutes after I orders the food was ready and hot! And Simone in the kitchen made an extra egg roll and it was in our bag! Flavorful and reasonable! Will be back as I am here indefinitely! Only concern was the lack of masks- up here is bad for wearing masks but the new variant is here now and my mom is in hospice care. My wife and I ate here because a friend recommended we try it. I've had Chinese and Thai food all over the world even in China and Thailand and this food was in all respects excellent. Our dinner started with and excellent egg drop soup. I had the Spicy Thai Fried Rice (Kao Pad) combo which came with a large meaty pork rib and an excellent egg roll with a perfect plum sauce. The default spiciness was perfect. Not quite as spicy as the default in Thailand but perfect. My wife had the Shrimp Lo Mein with an appetizer of Teriyaki Beef skewers which she absolutely loved...so much she ordered two orders to go to eat later and she's a 4'11" 100lb Filipina. The hot tea was also excellent with no bitterness. If you're anywhere in the area and love Thai or Chinese food, you cannot go wrong with Chee Peng Thai and Chinese Restaurant. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. We did not get the buffet, but ordered off the menu. The egg drop soup was yellow water with cabbage in it. Found maybe two tiny pieces of egg. The General's Chicken was awful. Strange sauce with it. Ate three bites and left it. The sweet and sour chicken sauce was tasteless. The almond boneless chicken was okay. The fried rice was basically white rice with a dash or two of soy sauce and a few tiny shreds of egg. We will never be back. I'll add that we are originally from downstate and have eaten lots of really good Chinese food. If you haven't experienced that, maybe you'll think this is good. read more

I ordered the Thai spicy Szechuan dish, and I was hoping they had tofu, even though it's not on the menu-- and they do! It was pretty tasty (although not really spicy for me). Pretty happy with this place, and if I was around Alpena more, I have a feeling that they could be convinced to make things a little less to appease the American palate. We come here often, always a very friendly staff and very clean! We get the buffet when we eat in, the food is always so good and they keep on top with replenishing it. When we order to go, they always get our food done quickly and it is never short of delicious!
