I heard about this shop recently and was so excited to visit. I honestly went way overboard--I can't believe how much I spent on cheese and cheese accompaniments. But they gave me tastings of quite a few things, both which I asked for and stuff they suggested to give me a taste. There's a fantastic selection of cheeses of all varieties from various regions. I had to try the one that's the darling of the shop's social media, the Alp Blossom. It's delicious and beautiful. It is fun to eat as well. I realized after I bought it that it's unpasteurized, so although I was looking forward to sharing this with my little one, she's going to have to wait a few more years. My significant other is not much a dan of cheese--until a couple years ago, he'd eat Swiss, Colby, and mozzarella as pizza and that's it. Mimolette and Red Leicester broadened his tastes a bit and then from the ones I got here at C&B--the Alp Blossom, Old Witch, and Honey Bee Goat--he found he liked several more, including a goat cheese (the first time he's ever tried goat cheese). I also got one called Prairie Meadow, which has little crystals in it from the cheese making process, and it's so good. In addition to the fantastic cheese I bought, of which only two are ones I've had before (mimolette and roquefort), I bought some crackers to go with the cheeses. Crackers are crackers, generally, but one of the ones I bought has edible flowers in it, as well as dill. Dill is my favorite herb so that piqued my interest and these crackers are so good. And beautiful and interesting, a great addition to your charcuterie board. I also picked up some crackers with chili in them and they are indeed spicy! The folks at the shop were all really friendly and so helpful. The cheesemonger had a few cheeses he'd already made samples of, and then he gave me a taste of anything I wanted. One of the ones he suggested is one I chose. He pointed me to the "orphan basket" they have in their cooler, which are bits of cheese from what they've sampled, and I got a couple of those to try. They have some really great meats and I picked up some jamon for my partner to try. They also had some chili orange spread that I thought we'd try, since we're big fans of the fig and sour cherry spreads. The one thing I forgot to get, because I didn't want to pull it out of the cooler too early, was the butter they stock! It's a special French one and I was looking forward to it. Another time, I suppose. Parking is on the street only, but it was easy to find. I was worried about that since the West Loop isn't known for its easy parking. Perhaps it was that it was Friday afternoon but it may just be a good spot. It's not too far from Ogilvie Transportation Center, either. I found that the 20 bus, which I sometimes take from work to get to Ogilvie, stops right in front of the shop so that may be my way to get here too. Since most of the cheese shops Chicago had seemed to close up in recent years, it's wonderful to have this great one open up by someone who loves cheese and carries a wonderful mixture for every kind of customer. read more

They have a huge selection of all types of cheeses from all over the world and the staff is so knowledgeable about it all. They also have so many fresh cured meats that they slice right there. On top of that they have so many other fine foods like caviar, honeycomb, olives, crackers, and even specialty butter from Europe. All the best ingredients to build a charcuterie board are there. This is the best addition to West Loop! The meat and cheese selection is amazing, and we also got to enjoy some delicious samples. The owner Grace is so friendly and all the staff is so knowledgeable. There's a few other gems, like their AMAZING butter imported from France (a must get). I've never really made a Yelp review, but felt this place deserved it. I don't know much (if anything) about cheese or what it pairs well with. I was greeted upon arrival and immediately given a sample from the meat section. I told them I didn't know where to begin and wanted to surprise my mom with the floral cheese I saw on Instagram (Alpine Blossom). Not only was I given a taste test to see what I thought, they also gave me a few others before I made my decision. On top of that, each label tells you the name of the cheese, its origin, flavor notes, and best of all... what it pairs well with!! Okay, so aside from the cheese and the incredibly kind staff, they also have a wall stocked with all sorts of goodies. I'm a sucker for anything truffle, so of course I grabbed truffle oil, but I also found some stunning crackers with edible flowers to accompany my floral cheese... how CUTE!! I will be back for the honey variety and assortment of butter. This is such a neat addition to the West Loop and I highly recommend!! P.S. my mom said "what a treat" about 50 times and has plans for hosting girls night with her new fav finds!! read more

I've stopped in for just some snacks and also have ordered a cheese board from them. Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable - all their recommendations are great! I brought a cheese board to a friend's pool party and everyone love it! The meats and cheeses were all delicious, you can even request certain items if you have favorites. A printout of what items were used is a nice touch too in case you want to buy any later. With French butter on the menu and just down the block I'm not sure I'll be able to eat anything but that going forward. Can't wait for beer and wine to be available too! Decided to check this place out and had such a great experience. David and Grace helped us out and were super accommodating and friendly. We got to taste some delicious cheeses, and learned a bit about them too. There was a great selection on other non-cheese items as well, but the cheese was definitely outstanding. I LOVE THIS SHOP!!!! The staff is so welcoming and helpful. I was always offered samples for anything I was interested in and they gave great recs. I was also given a run down of how they organized their displays and where to find what. Prices are very reasonable. I was waiting for a sec and one of the staff just offered me a slice of spicy salami and asked I wanted some prosciutto to nibble on while I waited for mine to be sliced. They told me they will get their liquor license soon and will sell wine and beer too! There items are a hodgepodge of origins (vt, ca, wi, etc). They have maison bordier butter which I want to try soon bc I'm not going to France any time soon. I bought a baguette, piper's pyramid, tomarashi, and 1/2 lb prosciutto.
