This is my favorite cheese shop at all time. Whenever I come into the Santa Barbara area to go wine tasting, we always stop here to pick up items for our charcuterie board. Everyone that works here is so helpful, I love the samples that they give, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food that you get. They have a little market inside where you can purchase crackers, olive spreads, etc. LOVE LOVE LOVE

We ordered a cheese platter recently for my daughter's birthday party and it was a huge hit! I loved how the cheeses were labeled and how cleverly this was done. A+ for presentation. The cheeses were also super delicious and fresh. The bread also came in a cute little basket on the side. Highly recommend, well done Cheese Shop!!!!

I visited them when they were still C'est Cheese, but their website says "SAME GREAT CHEESES, MEATS, & GOODIES...SAME STAFF & SAME GREAT SMILES!" I loved this place and got really bummed when I thought they had closed for good, but was excited when I heard that they had just changed a few things up. Due to the pandemic, they are currently only offering curbside pick-up and local delivery, but their website shop is full of what they have available. I really enjoyed the Pilota and Piave when I was there, and if you like a more soft cheese the Ruche Robson was good.

Ginormous wheel of parmigiana. "The Big Cheese," haha.

The venerable C'est Cheese, which closed to much dismay, has reopened with the pragmatic new name, The Cheese Shop. Apparently it's the same owners as C'est Cheese. "It's a long story," they said. As you'd expect there is an abundant selection of fromage. There is also an adjacent space filled with kitchenware and gourmet food items called La Maison Rouge. With Covid, they're currently selling out of the front door.

This isn't about public shaming, hopefully it's clear this is about flagging to management that their staff requires more hands on training around food handling, product quality, tidiness and presentation. We ordered four sandwiches around 1:00pm mid week, nobody else was there and there were no tickets ahead of us--just two teenaged boys who looked seriously confused and undertrained and even openly joked about how slow things had been that day--which was an odd comment for a restaurant that looked like it hadn't been bussed yet after a lunch rush. It took both of them about 40 minutes to make four sandwiches in an extremely haphazard manner that inexplicably required them leaving to the back room a lot and returning empty handed--they both weren't familiar with the ingredients of the specialty sandwiches and they joked shoulder to shoulder as they both fumbled through completing the order. I was pretty shocked at how unkept the entire food prep station appeared and the counters and tables hadn't been bussed and were attracting large horseflies from outside --why weren't these guys bussing tables if it was so slow? Why was there A LOT of yellow mustard smeared across the low boy fridge doors? Where was the supervision? Why was it taking so long to make sandwiches that were on the menu with zero modifications? Why was the music so loud? Why was the kid who was just counting cash out of the tip jar, now handling food without washing his hands or wearing gloves? It was a barrage to the senses and a bizarre vignette into an ever-declining understanding of quality service and hospitality standards coupled with an ever-rising high cost of goods. When we got to the park down the street and opened the bag none of the sandwiches had been wrapped properly, no tape, no restrictive folds, just loose sheets of hand crumpled parchment paper, barely restraining the food inside with 360 degree wet condiments covering the OUTSIDE of every sandwich parcel--if you can even call them that. It was a disaster inside that bag. You couldn't reach your hand into the bag without it coming out covered in misc condiments. That same day I called the restaurant to ask if I could speak to the owner and share our observations, the person who answered said that person wasn't available. And before I could ask for an email, the kid hung up on me--but I can't blame him for that, he probably couldn't hear me over the insanely loud music playing on his side of the line.

With all the local wine I imbibe, I always seek the perfect cheeses and goodies to pair. It was at the wine tasting collaboration with Old Town Coffee that I have been a regular customer of Board Dawgs. Since then, I have since ordered multiple charcuterie boards for everything from a large gathering event, to a small family wine tasting day in the Santa Ynez Valley. Not once has Kyle disappointed! Board Dawgs menu is straightforward and to the point with three options (menu can be found in photos here https://bit.ly/3guq0S6): - Mini Cheesy Board - Cheesy Board - Big Board Depending on the size of your group, their appetite, and their dietary preferences, Board Dawgs will create a customized board just for the occasion. I am personally a fan of the Big Board because it has the most delectable popcorn chicken with homemade ranch dressing, honey walnut dates stuffed with goat cheese, AND an addicting jar of Burrata topped with arugula pesto. All the cheeses, fruit, crackers, flowers and meats are perfectly selected and fresh. Whether it is the aroma, the thoughtful and artistic placement of goodies, the unique additions, or simply the looks on our faces, these boards are always a crowd pleaser! I cannot recommend Board Dawgs enough for any occasion! Simply reach out and place your order requests through their Instagram page @BoardDawgs. Kyle is a pleasure to work with and willing to go the extra mile to make your board fit your needs. Plus they provide an affordable delivery option and specialty boards on their IG page for various holidays or meals. Win win!
