After over 12 years as loyal customers, we are extremely disappointed with the changes since the restaurant changed ownership. Prices have increased to an unreasonable and almost unconscionable level while portions have been cut nearly in half. Plate sizes are noticeably smaller, the salad that once served four people is now half the size yet more expensive, and overall value has dramatically declined. Charging $58 for rack of lamb and $18 for a glass of Meiomi--when the bottle can be purchased across the street for about $22--feels like a slap in the face to long-time customers. What was once a consistently busy, thriving restaurant has been nearly empty the last several times we visited, even on weekends. Sadly, after many years of loyalty, we will not be returning. read more

5stars all the way! Service , all food ordered, atmosphere was just on point. My beef goulash was very yummy and tender, warmed pickled cabbage was great w the broccoli. My hubby raved about the stuffed cabbage rolls but he liked the beef goulash a bit more. Cabbage rolls are pork, beef, rice. He loved them. The mashed potatoes are homemade and very good! Order them! The apple strudel was excellent with the ice cream. Homemade on the premise. Our server, Melinda was worth the 20% tip. All wait staff should always be like her. My only minor finding was the dim lighting. Overall, this was the best meal we had in the greater Palm Springs area and the very very few 5 star quality we give in our USA travels. read more

While the mini facelift is fresher, the portion size is much smaller and people are not going to come back if they feel they are being jipped. Their small greek salad used to serve 4 people easily with enough to take home - now it isn't big enough to serve 2 people. It's about 1/3 of the sized it used to be. I'm sure the new owner is doing this to make more profit. But when all of their regulars stop coming because of this, let's see how their plan works out for them in the long run. Not even sure if we will come back because of this change. People came here for the amazing portion size and value for the dollar, which is no longer the case. read more

New ownership has come in, as Lana has retired and sold the restaurant. Be careful on ordering your salad, it probably will serve four people. Entrees are solid, but not top notch as when Chef George was around. The lounge always has some good entertainment, so plan to spend a little time after dinner. read more

First and foremost they should have more than one server to handle the lounge seating especially on a Friday night.,After waiting for a server to come to my table with a menu for about 25 minutes I actually got up and walked over to where the menus were and I informed him where I was seated. He apologized told me about the specials $70 for a steak dinner. I looked at the menu and just spaghetti was $26 most everything else was $30. Enjoyed our dinner tonight! It's been a few years but decided to give it a new try with the new owner/manager Rich. There were 4 of us! Started with cocktails & wine! Delizia was our server & very lovely! Food ordered was Calamari steak (2)-YUM! 1 Rack of Lamb - cooked perfectly, & 1 Chicken Marsala- delicious! Servings were plentiful! A great "happy hour" experience at Picasso! Under new ownership but the same delicious food.

We went here last night for the first time as we had heard good things about the place. First thing is Chef George passed away and the place is under new management but the kitchen staff is still the same. We got there at 5:30 and the place was empty. We were greeted promptly and sat down. Our waitress Gia came over and helped us with the menu. We ended up with Italian chicken livers and Goulash. Both dishes were done very nice. The temperature and flavor of the dishes was spot on. The entire bar area was fairly dark with old wood paneling on the walls with old pictures of people. There was an accordion player playing when we arrived and then a 2 man duo came on around 6:30 both acts sounded great. This place reminds me of The Sandbar in Old Town La Quinta. We met the new owner he stated that some menu changes were about to happen. So time will tell but by the time we left there was a nice crowd of locals and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. read more

Ate at CG&PL last evening, food was very good, it's like eating at your nana's house, portion size is good, quality is outstanding, presentation is fine, no it's not artwork,, but that to me is not near as important as how delicious it is. Rich is truly in love with his restaurant, he is only going to serve you food he is proud of,, and frankly he exceeded that. Everything we were served was exceedingly good, the service was "strained ", due to employees not coming in to work, but the staff that did show, worked their tails off to do the best they could, honestly a non issue. Delicious food, by a business owner and staff who genuinely want you to enjoy your meal. When was the last time you got steamed broccoli that was steamed to perfection ! The food here is outstanding! The servings are large and food is authentic and delicious. One of the most incredible dinners I've had on the west coast. The servings are giant! There is live entertainment so we had called ahead to make a reservation. I didn't want to miss out. The show was fantastic and so much fun! The entertainment brought me here and the food will bring me back again next year when they return for the busy season. The older style, comfortable atmosphere is perfect. I heard it's run by a Hungarian couple and I believe the owner stopped by our table. Our service was stellar and possibly we had the wife was our waitress. It's a fancy restaurant without the fancy. Main complaint is the exorbitant prices, with the food only being just OK... not extraordinary. Plus the place was practically empty, (Wednesday evening), which usually means slow food turnover. Not a good sign. Chef George restaurant can't justify their outrageous prices. Everyone in our group of four complained about the meat dishes being dry and overcooked, with my wife sending her beef plate back. If you don't mind spending a lot of money for dinner, go to Mitch's where it's worth it. read more

While vacationing in Palm Desert for the weekend, I was dying to try this restaurant. I love European food, and especially Stuffed Cabbage. Theirs was great, my friend had corn beef, mashed potatoes and veggies. They brought my friend a delicious cake dessert. The restaurant was full, every table was taken, and without a reservation, I don't think we would have gotten a table. There were musicians playing and even taking requests. Everyone got up and danced, and we had a great table. Definitely worth stopping here for dinner when in the Palm Desert area. read more

My wife and I went out for dinner at Chef George's recently. We haven't been there in the last two years. Our previous experiences at the restaurant have been very positive. Something has changed. It started with the cocktails which seemed like they had been watered down. My soup, although very flavourful, was not hot. The Cajun catfish was soggy with no flavour, the same as the broccoli. The service was poor. In the past you would leave with the feeling you had received value and an enjoyable dining experience. Not now. We will not go back. read more

Our friends are long-time regulars at this desert staple, and they invited us to experience an evening here recently. We were welcomed by the very friendly hostess/owner and our server immediately provided outstanding and attentive service. We started with bread and the Greek salad - the salad was delicious! I kept thinking how great it would be to come back when the weather is terribly hot and just have that salad. For entrees, I had the chicken picatta and it was perfect. My husband had the goulash, and liked it. We both felt like the only thing the dishes needed was more salt. My friends had the stuffed cabbage and the calamari steak and they loved them. This place is so weird. We got there on a Saturday night, and there was a dinner show going on. Everyone, including the performers, were seniors, and the music was a bizarre mix of Tom Jones, Michael Jackson, Farrell, etc. The food was amazing though. What an unusual place with funky European decor and a quirky vibe. It's fun to go out of the box for a change . We ate in the dining room but they have a hidden bar that's like a nigh club with different singers coming and going. They have a sweet waitress that's really too busy. They could use some extra help. The food is Hungarian and we had a great meal. A Greek salad and mushroom soup to start and the fried chicken livers for diner. The portions are huge and can be shared which we did. Our server showed me the lounge in back and I took a picture but I forgot to get a picture of the food. Very speak easy feel with a great entertainment venue... cozy old place that takes you back in time... should have listened to others telling me what great salads they have because what we ordered was not great nor even good.... Mushroom soup looked and tasted like dirty dishwater... the goulash was basically inedible the saviour all around was the great entertainment that night... Talk about a great experience!!! The food is amazing...the best Chicken Florentine I've ever had :) The portions are huge...2 people can easily share a salad and an entree. This is a GEM...old school European food made with love! Nightly entertainment, superb service (that is truly genuine!!!). This is a 55+ clientele but boy can they sing and dance! Super fun group of people dine and dance here. Last but not least, I cannot say enough about the service and how gracious they were to us :) It's hard to find a place that goes above and beyond...Chef Georges most definitely accomplished that!!!! read more
