Chef Ron pulled off an amazing menu for a group of 14 adults with a wide range of dietary needs. (We had a few shellfish allergies, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and pregnant menu needs.) This was for my husband's 40th birthday dinner. I was so excited for each course that I forgot to take many photos. The food was outstanding in taste and presentation. For example, my husband likes spicy food but the rest of us don't like the same extreme level of spicy. I in particular am a huge wimp when it comes to spicy food. But Chef Ron took this information and made a spicy dish that we all could enjoy and it didn't burn my tastebuds off. The vegan and vegetarian guest were especially appreciative that the dishes they were served were not just side dishes, but rather proper whole dishes very similar to what everyone else was eating with some brilliant alterations. All the guests had a great time and raved about the quality of the food, cooking, and presentation, but the way I know for a fact that they weren't just being polite in their words, was that after every single course the plates were practically licked clean. When I reached out to Chef Ron for this special birthday dinner I was looking for something that was restaurant quality and fun and wasn't stressful. Chef Ron checked all those boxes and then some. I contacted him on a Monday for a Thursday surprise birthday dinner for 6 and he was able to make it work- yay!! We spoke once on a call and then exchanged messages. I let him decide the menu and it turned out amazing! He showed up on time and got going in the kitchen. He helped setting the table and picking the right wines for each course. Each dish was delicious and something that you can't order at a restaurant. I hired him for my 23-person wine dinner and they were a joy to work with throughout. Each course was unique, incredibly delicious, and beautiful. I had been searching online for a private chef for my best friend's bachelorette in Palm Springs. All the caterer's I contacted either didn't call me back, follow-up with any questions or gave me very generic menus and food options. Therefore, I was so happy to be introduced to Chef Ron by some friends who had hired him for a previous event. Chef Ron wanted to talk to me on the phone and get as much information about the guest of honor and the type of event we were throwing so he could plan the perfect meal for us. He then sent me a customized menu and pricing for what we asked for. I really appreciated how quickly he was able to do this despite his very busy schedule (he's writing a cookbook for goodness sakes!)He followed up regularly after we agreed on menu and dates to see if we were excited and if anything changed. While he is from SD, he and his wife drove out to PS with all their equipment and presented us with two amazing meals! We did a formal 3-course dinner and later in the weekend a brunch buffet. I was truly blown away by Chef Ron and his wife. The moment they arrived he asked what kind of drink I wanted and made me one of the best margaritas I've ever had. I threw my boyfriend a 50th birthday party- and I'm not a planner, but I knew my bf wanted just to have friends over. Chef Ron Oliver catered a French wine and food event for Porsche Club of America San Diego Region Monday night. Expectations were high, as we knew he was Chef de Cuisine at SD's famed Marine Room for many years, and had been named SD Chef of the Year. Even so, we were still blown away by his really extraordinary creations--the food was simply spectacular! The flavors of each course were so complex, the textures exquisite-- it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite. The pork belly was absolutely gorgeous, the aerated black truffle sauce was ethereal! The escargot, prepared at an outdoor station so the tantalizing aromas filled the air, were so plump, tender, and nutty/earthy--perfectly prepared and so wonderful with the white Burgundy! I could happily eat his authentic Bouillabaise every night for the rest of my life, and the tarte l'oignon with bacon lardons, red endive, and hearts of frisée was delightfully fluffy yet rich-- the perfect complement to the Alsatian Gewurztraminer. Having been served Gougère by many of the wineries I visited in Burgundy, I can honestly say that his was the best I've had: delicate, airy, with just enough cheese, enhanced with minced herbs and nutmeg. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to taste the Cassis and Citrus Blanc-Mange with rhubarb and candied kumquat served in cute little glass canning jars, but everyone who had it clearly enjoyed it very much! Every dish complemented the wines so well, the guests really had "lightbulb moments" where they truly understand how the right wine and food combination can be magical. Chef was assisted by two talented sous-chefs, and left the kitchen cleaner than it was when they arrived. I'm a wine & food professional who's worked with some of the best chefs in the country and traveled to France on nearly three dozen wine-buying trips, and I truly felt as if I'd returned to France for the night! I worked with Chef Ron to plan a dinner in celebration of my best friend's bachelorette this past weekend and let me tell you, no restaurant experience will ever compare to the experience we had with Chef Ron!!! I interviewed a few personal chefs for the event and it was IMMEDIATELY clear that Chef Ron was the one to hire! We had an initial 30 minute conversation where we bounced ideas off of each other, with him asking detailed questions about the guest of honor's favorite flavors, things to do, background - you name it! He customized the menu to fit our bride to perfection. He was extremely engaged and excited about our event, as if he was planning an event for one of his own loved ones - it was very refreshing. The cost was just as affordable if not MORE affordable than a dinner elsewhere. He allowed us to assist with meal prep (only because we wanted to - if you want everything prepared for you, he will do so!!).
