Chef Shawn Sei did a private sushi event for some friends and me in March 2021. The event was awesome!! Chef Shawn spent a good deal of time talking with us to determine the type of event we wanted. He was flexible in the menu while also being very helpful with suggestions. He showed up on time with all the food, plates, sauces, utensils, etc. Basically, we had to do nothing but be present and enjoy the all-you-can-eat bonanza. The event itself was amazing. Chef Shawn worked hard to prep the food and present a beautiful layout of sushi. He was also really engaging with the group, participating in the conversation, and educating us about the different sushi styles. He willingly took pictures for the group. He also prepared the most amazing sauces that I wish were available for purchase. So amazing. Chef Shawn himself is so unassuming and kind - no chef attitude here. Easy to work with, very flexible, and you know his goal is to create an amazing experience for you without breaking the bank. I have not had Chef Shawn cater a big event yet but based on the other reviews, I certainly have to do that. I prefer to entertain in small groups but have done it less and less because of the work involved in a dinner party. We had Shawn over for a dinner party to celebrate a milestone birthday. Shawn was great in terms of dealing with the dietary restrictions of my guests (several gluten free and vegetarians in the mix) and we worked quickly to design a menu that had several options. On the day of the event, Shawn showed up on time and quickly went to work setting up beutiful appetizer trays. Dinner came about 45 minutes later and Chef Shawn served myself and other 7 guests. Shawn is, simply put, a excellent chef who caters private parties. He catered my birthday party last year. I had 88 guests and food service was supposed to be on my outside deck. Well it was my luck that it rained all day. So in addition to arriving early with all of his great dishes he had to redesign how the food service was going to be handled due to the fact that we could not use the deck. Some friends said to me, 'aren't you worried?' and my response was that "no, this is Shawn's problem to figure out.' And he did. It turned out to be an excellent party, the food was outstanding, the service was very good in spite of things not being as planned, and everyone loved the party and the rain. So Chef Shawn demonstrated a few very important things. He arrived early. His food and service were excellent. He is flexible and can 'wing it' when things change. And he is pleasant throughout. He couldn't get the rain to stop but other than that he made my birthday party an excellent evening. I then attended another party that Shawn catered. This was in a downtown condo clubhouse and there was more of a professional kitchen setup with a window for food service.I'm guessing that there were about 100 people there. Again, dinner was delicious and I (and many more) went back for seconds! Everything looked good and tasted good. He kept the food coming and we all kept eating! Another fine job by Chef Shawn.
