I am shocked with the positive reviews left for this catering company. Salud catering did not just do a couple things wrong for us.. it was multiple. If you are looking for a reliable catering company, turn away now. I am not sure what has changed from these reviews to now.. maybe a new manager? new owner? I don't know, but something has clearly changed. I am an understanding person, I have worked in Food and Beverage myself for years. I know what good customer service looks like, and I know how to recover from mistakes. We booked Salud catering for a corporate event, and the communication in the beginning was great, but then it went sour. A few days before our event, I messaged them to confirm and also get a question answered. I never got a response to my question. I was told that Salud Catering was going to be at our company by 10:00am to set up, as our event started at 11:00am, this was written in our agreement. It is now the say of the event and 10:15 am. I have received 0 communications from Salud Catering, saying where they are. I call to verify they are still showing up, the guy on the phone says they are running behind, but will be there and I will receive a communication when the driver leaves their location. Fast forward, it is now 11:10 am, the event started 10 minutes ago and Salud Catering is still no where to be found, and I have received 0 communications from them. I call again to ask where they are, the girl on the phone sounds annoyed with me and says the driver is 5 minutes away. The driver shows up and it is now 11:15 am, he sets up our food station and is ready to serve at 11:30 am. They were an hour and a half late, and I had to chase them to get answers, but I put that behind. Hang on it isn't done yet...It is now only 30 minutes into the event and it is 12:00 pm and the server runs out of ingredients. He frantically is calling his friends to bring him some more over. So first you had poor communication, then you were late by an hour and a half and now you are running out of food!! We did not have more people than what was listed on our agreement, if anything we had less!!! Also, we ordered a total of 20 pounds of meat. I have held those serving dishes before, and I can tell you right now that was not 20 pounds of meat. Also, the set up of the event looked NOTHING liked the pictures. SUPER EMBARASSING to tell the guests of the event. Sorry, catering is running late and then only 30 minutes into the event.. Sorry, catering is out of food. The worst part of this was there was no real acknowledgement of the mistake. There was no discount given for the mistakes, no apology and there was no service recovery!!! after all of this!!! Poor communication, late by an hour and a half, and running out of food. I believe they forgot about our order and scrambled to put something together. Like I said, I would have forgiven the mistakes if the proper service recovery steps would have been performed such as a discount or even saying hey we are so sorry, let us come back and show you how it is done, but instead we have gotten nothing. If you want an unreliable vendor choose them! I can't even imagine trusting them with a big event such as a wedding. Go elsewhere, they are horrible! read more

This company did a wonderful job leading up to our event. Great communication, quick and efficient with payment and contracts and extremely organized when it came to setup. However, out of our 114 guests, 85 got extremely sick not even 8 hours later, myself and my husband included. The food was setup at 4p however no heat was put underneath the beans or meat until right before 6p. Over half of my guests and myself work in the food service industry and when we noticed no heat was added to the food, we assumed the company was keeping their meat under temperature control. Sadly this wasn't the case and food poisoning was the outcome of our wedding party. I have emailed them requesting to speak to someone over a week ago and still no response. I emailed the venue that recommended this caterer and let them know what happened but to be quite honest, where is the customer service? Why can't this company, that did not fulfill the basic duties of keeping food prepped properly, reach out to me? We have not requested money back, we just wanted to ensure this doesn't happen to any other customers that chose to go with this business. I used San Diego Taco Company to cater my wedding and it ended up being the worst part of our wedding day experience and wedding planning process. We were initially excited to have them cater our wedding, as their restaurant food was delicious. However, when it got to catering our wedding, we were disappointed by their lack of organization, follow through, and professionalism. To start, they ended up bringing the wrong tacos to our wedding. We had paid an additional charge for quesabirria tacos and did not receive them, instead we received regular pork tacos. When we reached out after the wedding to request a refund for the additional charge, they refunded half the up charge and claimed they did serve several guests a quesabirria taco- which is not true. The taquitos we ordered were inedible, rock hard, and a total waste of money. Because they were cooked offsite, they were stale. Luckily we got refunded for these upon demand. As far as bussing services, we requested a refund, as the busser left our coordinator to finish clearing plates and refused to fill our water pitchers. When we requested a refund, the caterer claimed that the busser did their duties and that we ran out of water. This is also a lie, we had gallons of water leftover at the end of the night. For a company who presumably wants to stay in business, it is beyond me the level of arrogance and lack of customer service they have. You can trust the positive Yelp reviews! My daughter in law found this company on Yelp and I'm glad she did. We used them for my sons wedding in July 2018. I noticed some negative reviews but I did not experience any of these. I listened to the advice of the caterer and hired 2 extra helpers at a very reasonable rate as well as paying for additional time for our 175 guest. The staff was friendly, efficient and really kept everything running smoothly. We chose this company because they provided appetizers and desserts in addition to their wonderful tacos. We ordered ceviche,empanadas, nacho bar, taco cart with chicken and carne asada, quesadillas, street corn, Handmade tortillas and ice cream with churros. This place came highly recommended by my mom who previously attended two weddings that used them & raves about the food & never complained about the service. Not only were they an hour late, they never answered the 5 calls made by my coordinator, they never called to let her know they were running late, they provided hand made tortillas that we didn't order, and although great, it delayed our 150 guests from getting food in a timely manner with only providing two employees to make the tortillas & serve. Our wedding had been either early or on time & this unfortunately cut into the remainder of the evening. Everyone who ate asked me where I picked the tacos up from, and told me we have to go eat there as a group someday because of how good it was. Huge hit at the party!! They hook it up w/ all of the fixings and all of that, and everything is so fresh - it was delicious. Only thing to consider is if you are on a time crunch like we were- they may not be ready when your pick up time hits so maybe order 10-30 min ahead of when you need to get going....they still had to make all of the tortillas when we got there at our pick up time. Well I'm a little late in reviewing them but better late than never, right?? The San Diego Taco Co catered our San Clemente wedding this past October 11th and WOW. They were GREAT! We had about 110 guests I'm guessing and they were perfect. They were one of the top complimented vendors of our wedding by guests and we have some TOUGH critics of authentic Mexican food in this crowd. I saw some reviews mentioning the cooks weren't 'friendly and smiling' which kind of made my laugh because as former service industry people ourselves- it's difficult to constantly smile when bombarded with fast paced work but both my husband and I couldn't disagree with those reviews more. The three guys that worked our wedding were friendly, quick and we received multiple comments about their friendliness. Guess you can't please them all! All in all- BOOK THEM. I recently booked San Diego Taco Company based on yelp. Although there are a handful of negative reviews, I took my chances as the ease of booking them and the rates were excellent. Their rates are some of the better ones I had found and they seemed like a legit company. I was very pleased with the professionalism of this company. There was a $100 deposit required. For 40 people, catered service, including a mandatory 20% gratuity, it was only $480 for pollo and carne, tortillas, beans, and rice (contrary to what my friend said - as her work hired them for delivery service- , they provided more than enough side items). Also, they were able to make up to 1 quesadilla per guest. They provided a table for their salsas and chips, and also included utensils, napkins, and plates. Our event started at 2pm and they arrived at 12 pm to set up and cook. Additionally, they quoted to stay for 1 to 1.5 hours, but stayed for 2 hours to ensure they served all the guests. Any leftovers they allowed us to keep. You can pay check or card to book them. The decor is fun, the salsa bar is awesome. There is always a line out the door. All good signs that this is a great, popular place. The food was consistently good when we visited. Based on this and reading reviews of Salud's catering service, San Diego Taco Company; we booked them for our wedding in July 2017. I urge you to hire a different company for you important event. Our guests didn't know the difference or what they missed but we did and were SO disappointed. The negotiations started off well. There was clear and timely communication. We worked with Lizzie who after solidifying our menu and contract, met us at the venue to ensure they were familiar with the layout and would be prepared for the event. This was very appreciated. It seemed like we were all on the same page. My husband and I were so excited for our wedding and for our guests to enjoy this delicious food. We ordered chips, salsa, guacamole and ceviche for the cocktail hour. We hired another company to bartend and served micheladas and margaritas during happy hour. We placed an extra order of food for the cocktail hour because I was nervous the food would run out. I would rather there be more food than not enough. I received feedback from guests that the food went fast and they didn't get any chips, salsa, guacamole or ceviche. SDTC confirmed they forgot to bring the extra order I paid for. This was credited back to me, but it can't change the experience our guests had. We were taking pictures during the cocktail hour and the dinner began slightly after schedule. This was not SDTC's issue, it was due to our time with the photographer. We were asked by Lizzie with SDTC during planning if we would like signage to display options to the guests. We said yes that would be great! We had chalkboard signs for different stations around the wedding and reception. We did not make signs for the food because they assured us they would have signs out. There was no signage to display what options were available for our guests. Guests were supposed to have the option of street tacos and quesadillas. No one knew about the quesadillas. We ordered the Mexican Street corn to accompany the tacos and quesadillas. We were the first to get in line and get our food. The staff working that day were not friendly, not smiling and I tried to disregard this and not let it affect our day. They didn't offer us Mexican Street corn or any of the extras, salsa, etc. I had to ask for it. I later learned from our guests that unless they knew we had Street corn from us previously raving about it to them and how excited we were to have it at the wedding, they did not get to try it. We had paid our entire invoice in advance of the wedding and we learned that SDTC was going up to the DJ and to my family asking to have a bill of approximately $100.00 paid that night. I was unaware this was going on and addressed it with SDTC later. For dessert we ordered churros and ice cream. Many guests later told me that they didn't get to enjoy any dessert. They went up to SDTC and they said there was no more. I could honestly go on with the details of unfortunate missed opportunities by the SDTC. We were left with 3-4 large tins of Mexican Street corn, two 5 gallon tubs on ice cream, boxes of churros, tons of tortillas. We gave away as much food as we could. We were leaving for our honeymoon the following day. We gave the two huge tubs of ice cream to a woman working at Sacred Mountain to take home to her family. When I addressed this all with Lizzie, I experienced a different side of SDTC. I addressed the poor customer service by the gentlemen working that night, no signage, not offering all that was available, approaching guests and the DJ with a request for payment that should have been previously addressed or addressed with me after the wedding, forgetting the additional order for cocktail hour, not offering any quesadillas, putting away the ice cream before guests had an opportunity to have dessert, it goes on. They went back and forth with me and I finally settled with what was an unfair credit based on all of the wasted food due to their error. We just wanted to move on at this point. Finally I asked to speak with the owners to share my experience. They had no interest in taking any time to speak with me. I would never recommend San Diego Taco Company to a friend for a private or corporate event. They catered my work lunch for 220 people, and people raved about the food. The package is very reasonable. With a basic package, tax, service fee, and the add on of a veggie option, it came out to about $20 per person. We had a ton of leftovers too, and they package it up for us. The chicken was surprisingly so good--smokey and juicy. The rice was flavorful and delicious. My only complaint is that they didn't replenish chips and salsa fast enough. We ended up with a ton of chips in the end, which would have been nice if they replenished it during lunch time. The servers were friendly. I ordered the birria tacos to go with my Abuelita chocolate stout from Border X brewing Co. They were 2 tacos for $5.00. They also had ceviche, menudo and adobada tacos. The tacos were full of birria topped with cabbage, onion, cilantro and cotixa cheese. The tortilla was fried slightly were the edges of the taco were crispy which was great so the brought from the birria doesn't rip the tortilla. I put a good amount of salsa and I was in for a surprise when I realized how spicy it was . The birria was very flavorful and you can really taste all the spices in the birria. We had a bad experience with this company for our wedding in April 2019, for three reasons. First- they did not bring the necessary ingredients for Veggie tacos, with the chefs claiming we did not order them. After reviewing our invoices, I had explicitly confirmed the invoice that included veggie tacos. We had veggie tacos printed on our menus, and guests that were vegetarian and vegan. It was embarrassing to say the least. Second- their employees drank our alcohol on the job without me or my husband telling them they could do so. Third- I have tried to contact this company twice since the wedding regarding the above issues and have not heard back. As for the food itself- it was mediocre. We went to Salud to taste test their tacos, which were amazing, but the catered tacos fell flat- even though they were cooked right there in front of us. Salud is one of our favorite taco places in San Diego, and when we realized that San Diego Taco Company was their catering branch we knew they would be catering our wedding. The food, drinks, and services were on point. We had the taco bar, watermelon and horchata agua frescas, and a nacho bar! I had San Diego Taco Company cater my wedding a few days ago and they did a fantastic job! The company was so easy to work with and they even came out to see the reception space the day before the wedding to make sure that they knew where to set up (which really eased my anxious bride mind!) We ordered the Nacho Bar (which everyone LOVED), mini taquitos & flautas, & the taco cart. So so happy we chose Salud Catering for our rehearsal dinner. The entire team was amazing. From the introduction emails and calls to the day of, they were so professional and easy to work with. And the food was SO GOOD! All of our guests could not stop talking about the tacos, the churros and the appetizers. It was the perfect food to welcome our out of town guests to San Diego. We had some leftovers at the end of the night and the chef was so helpful to pack it all up for us so nothing went to waste and we got to enjoy it even the next day. I guess there's a first time for everything as Yelp Reviews often match my own experience but not at all in this case. I was so excited with the prospect of this place to provide food for a family gathering. With 25 people, it made sense for us to feast on tacos instead of trying to grill our own hotdogs and whatnot at the beach. Long story short, I contacted the place and provided all the info they requested to move forward with an order only for them never to follow through with the order. On the day of the gathering, I was left high and dry in a panic as I ran around like a headless chicken looking for a place where I could order food for my group of 25! I called and emailed several times on the day of the event, only to never get a response. The scary thing was that at one point, the mailbox wouldn't let me leave a message but instead, several messages played from people who were also begging them to return their phone calls! When somebody finally contacted me, they blamed me for putting the wrong date but they also didn't show up on that date they thought it would be! Wouldn't common sense dictate a business to confirm the date or at the very least, to return messages? No apologies but rather a "this was your fault, not ours" response. Crazy! So I'm happy for all the people who had a positive experience here but wouldn't take my risk if you want to make sure you get your order done right (or at all for that matter!). read more

This is for the San Diego Taco Company food/taco cart. They provided food at Mt. Helix amphitheater. Long story short - the service was ridiculously and horrendously slow. I got in line nearly 1 hour before the show started. There were only about 15-20 people in front of me. Took one hour to get my food - and they were just serving up tacos, rice and beans - nothing fancy. I felt bad for the other 30 or so people behind me who were still waiting after the show started. Food was fine, but was still aggravated from the hour wait to enjoy it, and too pricy for taco cart food for me - $11 for 3 street tacos, and small side of rice and beans. read more
