I was a little taken back by not having fries for children but I'm glad they didn't as we would have never tried the chips. The staff was very friendly and service was fast! Stopped in for a "lite" lunch and left very full. All four of us got the half sandwich and soup, which came with a piece of pie. Excellent!! It was so good we had to stop for breakfast the next morning. I got their, fresh fruit with granola and yogurt. I was in heaven!! It was served in a big bowl with a fresh scone. So yummy!! We will be stopping here again for breakfast, worth the drive there even if we are not going that far into Door County that day. I have been here a few times and the food has always been good. I had the Southwest scramble on a snowy Sunday morning. It was wonderful. The portion was just right and very tasty. The Chefs Hat was chosen on a whim, and based on other Yelpers. The experience was great. Very friendly hands-on service. The food was most excellent. The coffee was perfect. The reason it's not getting more stars, frankly, is the price. It was way too expensive for what we got. And they tried to "up-sell" us to spend more on special eggs. One of our party took them up but, except for the color, neither of us could tell the difference (exact same dish.) The big surprise was the $2 surcharge for syrup on the waffles. I mean, who does that!? At least give us the option for another syrup or something. It wasn't even brought up and the server didn't ask, although admittedly on second glance it is on the menu. In the end, our breakfast turned out to cost more than the previous night's dinner. So bottom line: great food, great service, but be prepared to pay for it. read more

We had a great time and good food on the outdoor deck for dinner. The only complaint was the slow and inconsistent service. Our server seemed very flustered and the restaurant did not even seem that busy. We ordered an appetizer and she forgot all about ordering it for us - but she did make up for it by offering us a free desert. Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out as the summer season gets underway. Still recommended in spite of the service glitches. read more

Wait staff was friendly, especially for a tourist town, and they were effective. We had a large party that was easily distracted, had three unruly children and the young staff never became annoyed. We stopped for lunch after a round of golf. We ordered the chef salad and added chicken salad--it was delightful and large enough to share. I had high hopes for dinner at Chef's Hat as I had always enjoyed their breakfast and several locals had suggested it as a great dinner location. We arrived and were seated outside on the patio with a great view of the harbor. It took about 10 minutes for anyone to come over to get our drink order. Our food order was taken about another 10 minutes later. We didn't receive the bread for 45 minutes and our soup for about an hour. When our entrees came out they were mediocre. The tuna was overcooked and the risotto was mush. Overall very disappointing for the price. On the plus side we got to enjoy the nice view. Would recommend for breakfast, but skip for dinner. read more

Right off the bat, this place gets 4 stars because I absolutely loved our server. She was equal parts attentive and happy. All servers should shadow her for an example of superior customer service. In addition to our ray of sunshine, the food was delicious. I ordered the egg and adouille sausage wrap. I am all about scones, so opted for that as my side. The sausage had a lot of residual juice, but that basically comes with the territory, and surprisingly didn't jeopardize the tortilla's stability. There was a punch of spice that made the flavoring just right. I enjoyed my apple cinnamon scone, even though I'm more of a traditionalist. I would prefer that all scones be more biscuit-like, where this one was more cakey. Still yummy, and it was served to me piping hot. My husband's traditional breakfast was good, he said, however, in comparison to the day before's plate, this one was skimping a little on the eggs. He liked the style of the scrambled eggs; he just would've liked more. He ended up eating the other half of my wrap. No problem there. No left-overs. This is another stop where I want to try their lunch. It looked like they had quite the variety. One suggestion or request: Please offer more wrap options. I would love to see more choices, because I know I will be back. As the girl in the AT&T commercials said, "We want more. We want more." read more

We recently had dinner here on a Monday night while in Door County. let me just say this place was absolutely packed. As in we got the last table anywhere, packed. Door County had just had a terrible storm the day before, and many places were still either out of power or closed, as the power outage and ruined their refrigerated items. It took quite awhile to order and get our food (about an hour in total), because again, this place was slammed. I'm going to keep repeating that as I don't think that was the norm, and in case they get any less favorable reviews for the same time period. I had the most delicious raspberry Arnold Palmer. I think a lot of times, flavored Arnold Palmers lose either the lemonade or ice flavor, but this still had it. The veggies wrap was nice and fresh, with a light dill sauce. My husband ordered a burger, but was given a portobello burger by accident. The waitress apologized as soon as she set it down, realizing it was the wrong thing, and offered to buy us dessert. As we had play tickets (cancelled due to the power situation, so it was a moot point) we declined so that we could be out in time. My husband ate the portobello burger anyway and said although he prefers meat, he still enjoyed it. This is a place I would definitely try again when I return to Door County, due to fresh ingredients, and the sweet disposition of our harried waitress. read more
