Located between the charming town of Bolton Landing and the Village of Lake George, you will find this quaint and secluded little getaway called Chelka Lodge(www.chelkalodge.com). Run by a very nice and hospitable couple, Judy and Dave Forshay, the lodge has two levels with 25 units and 400 feet of private lakefront. They take alot of pride in making sure their guests are comfortable and are having an enjoyable stay. If you like dogs, the owner's 3 Labrador Retrievers (Heidi and Lacey are Golden, Sophie is Black) can be seen running about and you're free to throw a bone or ball to any one of them. The rooms are nicely kept, with the vanity and little dressing area separate from the bathroom. Our room had two double beds (extremely comfortable I have to say) and a roll away bed. There are three additional units that have a king size bed with an efficiency kitchen and one cottage with 2 separate apartments. At no additional charge during your stay, a very nice light breakfast is served between the hours of 8AM and 10AM. It includes freshly baked muffins (corn, orange cranberry, chocolate and blueberry), homemade banana nut bread, blueberry scones, cold cereals, fresh fruit and all beverages. Breakfast is served in a very pretty dining area except there are not that many tables. So, if you don't mind sitting right next to the other guests at times (which my husband was not used to), you will really enjoy this breakfast, as I definitely did.* The views from your room are breathtaking. You open the door and you're looking right at the lake with these gorgeous, huge mountains directly in the background. There is a pretty gazebo on the grounds, a basketball court, ping pong, shuffleboard and kayaks, canoes and row boats are all available to you at no extra cost. There is also a big boathouse where the owners keep their private motor boat, but you can walk along the deck and find some nice areas to fish. My two daughters actually caught their first fish (two Pumpkin Seeds and a Bass - see pics) here. An abundance of lounges and chairs are also scattered on the manicured lawns, facing the lake, so you can also just relax, read a book and take it all in which I definitely took full advantage of. The only negative I can think of is that there is no swimming pool. But, with Lake George practically at your doorstep, who really needs a pool anyway?? The lights stay on until 11PM so you can enjoy a late night swim if you wish. The Chelka Lodge may not be a luxury resort, but the comfort and tranquility you will find here can sometimes be even better!! * It's really was not bad, we sat with some other really nice guests only one morning out of the three we were there. Note: Celebrating it's10th season, Chelka Lodge is open from May - October and is AAA approved. read more

We stayed at the Chelka Lodge for 2 nights on a recent visit to Lake George. Although the lodge had numerous amenities available for the guests and our room had a lake view, those are the only positive things I can say about our stay. The "lake view" hotel room we had was part of the original building...which means it is very old-not necessary a bad thing. The Bad thing was that the room was dirty and the building was not well maintained. Along with the UNCLEAN room...peeling paint, dirty drapes, spiders, cobwebs and old coffee stains from previous occupants...among other issues - were a complete turnoff. One of the worst things was when the shower didn't drain while using and you were ankle deep in dirty, slippery shower water. All of that - and more - for a price of $200 a night!!! And that was the OFF-SEASON RATE. I would not recommend this property nor would I stay at this property again. read more

Just came back from a week's stay at Chelka Lodge with family and it was absolutely fantastic! Eight of us stayed in the Carriage House which was perfect! Two units - downstairs for the four kids and upstairs for the four adults. Wonderfully peaceful setting in Boon Bay so nicely protected from the winds on the main lake. Kids were able to kayak, swim, canoe, paddle board, and fish right in the bay. Plenty of fishing morning and night for the Dads and boys and the girls had plenty to do. Judy and Dave were such great hosts - so friendly and accommodating! The kids had a blast playing with the dogs Sophie and Isabella too! The property is beautifully taken care of, and all of the guests were so friendly. We will definitely be back! read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to stay for one night after hiking Buck Mountain. Chelka was recommended to us by another lodge that had just closed for the season. The owner was very nice. He explained everything thoroughly (what we had access to, advice on where to eat, etc), and provided us with a cork screw when we asked. The grounds are lovely, and we really enjoyed being able to use one of the canoes. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because the owners have several dogs, and they aren't exactly cleaned up after. Dog poop was fairly prevalent on the lawn and you definitely had to watch where you stepped. read more

We had a great experience at Chelka Lodge. The owners are so nice, they have adorable black labs, the location and beach is great, and they have tons of fun activities like canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, ping pong, etc. The Chelka lodge is not a mega resort hotel and they are not trying to be. For example, the rooms are not huge and luxurious, but they are just fine. The furniture and decor is a little dated, but not horrible. Just make sure you have reasonable expectations if you stay here and don't criticize aspects that they simply can't provide. We loved our stay and would absolutely return next year. read more

My spouse and I visited Chela Lodge 2 summes ago and I still have very fond memories of our trip and this lovely lodge. The place is run by a friendly couple who used to live in NYC. Who can blame them for moving up here and buying this place. It's super comfortable - we had a room right on the water. The room was a little musty smelling (and I do mean a little), but a quick spray of Fabreeze took it away. Boats were at their dock for use by guests, which is great. It's very clean and a peaceful place to stay. We were very happy here and when we go back to Lake George, we will probably stay here again. read more

I'm giving this place a four star based on the service, amenities and upgraded rooms, even though I stayed in the less nice room which is probably more three star. My room was clean, but there was a slight smell, older bedding and chairs, and it just felt outdated. Luckily, they have fabulous amenities outside so you don't really need to use the room other than sleeping. Paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, shuffleboard, cornhole and more! It also has an incredible view of Lake George, and the deck overlooking it is perfect for enjoying wine at night or coffee in the morning. They do have upgraded much nicer rooms- next time I visit here I would stay in one of the house rooms on the beach. read more

Place is a dump!!!!! Hate to write reviews like this but here's the run down....carriage house hasn't been updated in about 40 years, carpets stained and dirty...we thought we could deal with it.....clothes and bandages from previous guest found...said ok we can deal with it....rodent droppings found in all rooms, in cabinets, inside of pots and pans, and inside the toaster! I had a 11 month old crawling around and could have gotten seriously sick if she had eaten any of that...additionally house looked unstable and not up to code....we were not even going to write a review...the owner had said we could leave our boat there for the week....but then I had my kids swimming in the water and he said we couldn't use his amenities, even after all what he put us through ......that was the last straw...if you have young kids don't go here they are rude (that was the least of our problems) the owners dogs use the the lawn as their bathroom so crawling kids or sandals will be subject to dog poop and pee...oh did I mention when I said the room was dirty he gave me cleaning supplies to clean it? Also wife and kids saw the mice running through the kitchen...wish I could leave less than one star read more

In all my years going to Lake George I have never had such a bad experience with lodging before. The health department should shut them down and the building department should investigate why this cottage looks unsafe. We were greeted by the owners when we checked in. Not a great experience. I don't know how they stay in business with their attitude. I love staying at lodging that has dogs. Problem is their dogs poop on the beach front and urinate where babies are crawling. We were a party of 12 spread amongst 3 locations on the property. I must say our room accommodations on the lake were nice. My son and his family stayed in the carriage house. Mice infested mice droppings everywhere and even in the toaster. Opened oven drawer a mouse jumped out. Totally unsanitary and a lack of care is evident. Ruined the week. Had to find alternate accommodations. Last thing I wanted to do on a busy week in Lake George. read more

Overpriced This is not a lodge in the conventional sense with the cozy big room and services. In fact I don't think we've ever paid over $200 a night to an establishment that was so parsimonious with soap and maid service. This is a pleasant place but there are hundreds and hundreds like it. For the same money you could be staying at the famous Sagamore Resort. read more

This is my first review on yelp, and Chelka Lodge motivated me to get on yelp. I love this place, I went with my girlfriend for her birthday trip. It was serene, beautiful and quiet. We are ultra dog lovers so The fact that there are black labs running around made us so happy. Great customer service. I love that it is family owned and cared for with loved. The rooms were comfy, and I LOVED the old rocking chairs in there. They were so comfy and vintage looking. TV's in the king motel unit were flat screen and nice as well. We made use of the free kayaks and had a peaceful morning out on the lake. About 7 minutes to Bolton landing and it's cute restaurants and about 7 minutes to the village. Will DEFINITELY be back next year . read more

Chelka lodge truly is a hidden gem on lake George with close proximity to both lake George village and Bolton landing. From the second we arrived the peaceful relaxing vibe of the grounds made us feel right at home. Especially being greeted by their sweet and friendly dog Sophie. We stayed in an efficiency room with amazing views of the lake and a private balcony where we watched the sunrise every morning. They offer lots of amenities such as paddleboards, kayaks, rowboat, canoe, shuffleboard, full basketball court, ping pong, corn hole. There is a deck above the efficiency rooms, private sandy beach and swimming area. The owners Dave and Judy were wonderful and made sure we had the best time during our stay. Definitely will be returning to visit the chelka lodge again! read more

Pros: The views are pretty Cons: Dirty and dusty. There was gum with hair stuck in it on two of the chairs. The chairs themselves were old and gross. The gum and hair looked like it had been there for ages. The bathroom sink was clogged. It just felt icky. We will not return. read more

My husband and I just came back from a stay at Chelka Lodge. We have been going to Lake George every other year for the last ten years or so and our only regret is that we did not find this place sooner. Dave and Judy and their two black labs (Sophie and Issie) are welcoming from the start and make you feel at home. Their property is located on the quiet Boon Bay and has stunning views of the lake. It is great place to relax with plenty of activities to keep you entertained (free use of paddle boards, canoes, rowboats, and kayaks). To keep the kids entertained when they are not playing with their sweet and friendly dogs, they have a basketball court, shuffle board, cornhole and a ping pong table. The property is clean and meticulously maintained. Rooms are large and the important items have been updated (mattress, bathroom counter top, bathtub and carpet). Continental breakfast of cereal, oatmeal, muffins, banana bread, fruit, yogurt, coffee and juice are provided. Chelka Lodge is a must stay in our book and we look forward to returning there in the future. read more

I was here for a summer break and liked it. They are nicely located between Lake George and Diamond Point downtown. It is managed by a friendly couple and offers a nice view of Lake George with a private beach and other activities. I stayed here during the off-season and loved it. Really nice owners who are personable and helpful. I love dogs so meeting their black lab, Sophie, was a treat! The hotel has a beautiful view of the lake that was great to enjoy with my coffee. Lawn area was also a nice place to hang out before heading to dinner. Rooms had an obvious "lake-house" vibe. Stayed in a room on the first floor and could get a bit noisy at night with people walking above and on the stairs. Otherwise loved my experience and would come back in a heartbeat! read more
