The last email I sent to Joe is attached- sadly, I will never, ever go here despite the fact I go by it several times throughout the summer for over 40 years.....My daughter knew my husband and I wanted to stay so she gave us a gift certificate for our anniversary last May. I booked last October for this May 17-19 2019. I was charged the full amount of the stay in advance - 1 nite + the use of my gift certificate- Their own policy states that is to occur only when the reservation is made 10 months in advance. I decided to go to Florida in March 2019 and I would have to reschedule the Boat House for later in the season. I called Joe April 3, 2019- per their policy, I was over the 30 day period so I was entitled to the entire amount less a $100. See attached- When I called Joe on April 3rd- he wasn't happy about having to cancel. I explained I really didn't want to reschedule but actually just reschedule- he still was nasty but agreed and asked for my dates. He was on speaker, I was with my husband in my car. I told him I would call him when I was positive of the dates but for now, heads up to take my reservation out- I actually said, "don't forget to take the reservation out. I wouldn't want you to lose the weekend." I never received a written cancellation. Makes sense. I am re-scheduling- right? Well I called to reschedule on May 17th, 2020. What a jerk. He doesn't remember me, our conversation and actually said I was a scammer. Yup called me a name! I called him on the 17th because originally that was the date- I remembered I gad never rescheduled...I was omw to the airport for Florida and called. To date- he has collected $832.50 from me (outside of his own policy as you can see) and I am out the money & gift certificate. Of course I have no desire to go back now. I should be reimbursed the money and the Gift certificate- I would give it away. I WOULD NEVER SET FOOT IN HIS PLACE but why should my daughter have wasted over $416.25. This is disgraceful. He is a horrible human being. Nasty, greedy and a complete ass. Approach booking a reservation with caution!! I am sending this to the Editor of the local paper and plastering all over social media. He has no right to do any of this! He 100% forgot to take me out. His only defense is and I quote, "shoe me your cancellation email" .....I do not have one. I never cancelled. I was simply rescheduling on April 3rd. I have attached my phone record as well as my confirmation booking to Florida.

Our stay at this Lovely B & B turned Sour Quickly..... We were given the smallest corner room with a Bumpy Little Full Size Bed, No Air Conditioning & a Porta Pot size Bathroom. It was so uncomfortable for us..... (The Ciara Room) We dreaded going back to the room. The Owner Patty was completely unreasonable and continued to blame me for the choice of rooms. I would never have chosen their worst room. We were not on a Budget. Although it was a Beautiful setting, we just did not feel comfortable at all. We never went to breakfast Because we just did not want a confrontation with her. We will be going to The Sagamore in Lake George during our next visit. The Room makes all the difference. Instead of relaxing; we felt as though we would rather have been in our own beautiful room at home. Such a disappointment.

Every detail was exquisitely executed from the gardens to the food. It was so memorable that we decided to come back for our 26th anniversary this year. We booked a weekend and noticed the weekend before that the ownership had changed. We had high expectations and Linda and Genes shoes were big ones to fill. Understanding this we expected there would be adjustments. Soon arriving we noticed the gardens had been completely overgrown with weeds and unkept. Proceeding to the porch we noticed the house siding and windows were filthy and cobs webs were plenty. The porch was dingy worn and in need of repair. As we entered we noticed they had created a more modern space with a wine bar which, we were told, will soon will be opened to the public with new large leather furniture which dominated the living room. The renovation albums that Linda meticulously created have been replaced with motorcycle magazines. We noticed all the draperies had all been removed and a dank quiet hung over the room. The fairytale charm was gone. Tamara greeted us and explained the changes and explained to us she would be making us breakfast and asked us to pick a time slot and check the boxes from a menu selection she provided . After she showed us to our room (Victoria room) where we stayed the first time. We noticed wall decors had been removed and the magic was gone. We nervously discussed how breakfast would perhaps be changed. I had dreams about returning to the Lamplight Inn for Linda's delicious chocolate cappacino muffins and only hoped that they would be available in the morning. To our surprise around 7:30am I heard music and the bustling of servers preparing our breakfast and the waft of Genes home fries. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared. Servers were gracious and on cue. Just as we remembered. There were a few changes but definitely a wonderful breakfast minus the personal Linda touches we had loved. If your returning here from a lovely enchanted stay from days gone by you will be sadly disappointed. We feel the website should be updated to allow customers to understand the changes or at least an email at booking. The magic is gone and we can only thank Gene and Linda for creating a beautiful memory for us when we stayed 26 years ago. Sadly we will not be returning as we do not like the direction the new owner are taking it. We feel a wine bar opened to the public would be loud and intrusive to the guests and the lack of upkeep to grounds is terribly sad.

The only minus points I want to mention are 1. no real fireplace (electronic fireplace) in your room (totally understood, but thought they had a real fireplace in each room from the pix we saw online. but they have like 3 real fireplaces in the property) and 2. we texted the owner the morning before we checked out to ask about the neighborhood, but we still didnt get a text back from her lol. but this place still gets 5 stars because we will definitely come back. such a cozy place and I can see that the owners really care about their property and also their customers.

It's easy to miss but that's the whole point! You're off the grid and ready for some down time. Don't plan on using the internet much while you are here. We had a hard time getting and maintaining internet service. This was great in getting us to disconnect but a bit of a nightmare when we needed to use Waze or Mapquest for directions. We arrived 40 minutes early and the inn keeper initially seemed annoyed, frazzled and somewhat terse but quickly recovered once she realized our room was ready. After a tour of the grounds and the lodge we freshened up and headed downstairs to the main area for hors d'oeuvres and cocktail hour. I envisioned this to be much more than it actually was. I can't say that it was disappointing because I never expected it to be a highlight of my stay. I was however, very surprised at what was provided given the cost of our stay. The inn keeper offered us beer and wine and gave us a plate of four deviled eggs served on a plate with paper doilies. That was the extent of the hors d'oeuvres. Nothing else was prepared and nothing else was offered. On our second evening we had a small plate of cheese and crackers. They should bill this more as a light snack vs hors d'oeuvres. But again, not a big deal. This happy hour happens each day around four. On our first night we sat in the screened in porch and enjoyed the view of the lake before heading out to dinner. The second night we sat by the fire. There were a few other couples but everyone kept to themselves and enjoyed whatever space they were in and our time still felt private. There are rooms on each level of the lodge all offering a beautiful view though not all overlook the water. The inn is beautiful and if you're focusing on the ambiance of the lodge and the natural beauty surrounding it you'll realize the deviled eggs mean nothing. Our room was spacious and included a fireplace a fire pit and a jacuzzi tub. There are multiple fire pits around the lodge and s'mores kits to enjoy. If you choose not to gaze at the lake from afar you can enjoy any of the water toys down at the dock. There are also several walking trails to burn off the s'more you ate the night before. The inn keeper was a great concierge providing us with directions as well as suggestions for food and activities. Despite having a full house we really didn't bump into the other guests much during our stay. Downstairs is a pool table, a bar, fire place, puzzles, pool table, chess board etc. the bar is an honor system where you sip and sign for whatever you consumed and it will be added to your bill. During our stay there was a family of four staying at the lodge. Their children were around 12 and 15 and played darts while we played pool. There was plenty of space for us not to get into each other's way. There are books that other guests have left if you'd like to sit back with a good read. Breakfast was multi course small plates that were beautifully presented, tasty and just the right amount of food. You can have it brought to your room or request to dine in one of many areas of the lodge. We chose a table on the second floor with a great view of the lake. It was our own little spot with no distractions. The per night cost is $$$ but well worth it to relax, reconnect or just get outside and enjoy nature.
