We just had my daughters 40 th birthday party,30 people, stayed for the weekend activities, the last time we were here was when she was 5 years old,35 years ago.The place is magical. The staff was more then accommodating.we had a buffet dinner on one of the patios, the food was delicious and the staff was amazing.Great place to bring the family for a weekend getaway I'm sure with a place this large and with so many people, things go wrong ,but not for us every thing went perfectly

I've heard about The Sagamore Resort for years and was excited to finally experience it this past weekend. Everyone I mentioned it to raved about how wonderful it is, so we arrived with high expectations and lots of anticipation. At check-in we were given a list of activities, which all looked fun -- though we later learned most didn't begin until the following day. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of if you're arriving for a short stay. We stayed in the Hermitage Lodge, and the layout of the room was actually very nice -- a downstairs kitchenette and small living area, with a beautiful loft upstairs featuring a king bed. The only drawback was having just one bathroom. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, we noticed several ants -- first on the bed in the loft, then in the bathroom, and later in other areas of the room. Given the cold winter weather, it was surprising. We chose to mention it to the front desk the next day. They kindly offered to move us and provided a $70 credit, which we appreciated. Since we only had one night left, we decided not to relocate. At the room rate, we had hoped for a bit more in terms of condition upon arrival. We enjoyed lunch at Caldwell's and dinner at Mr. Brown's Pub, and later at La Bella Vita -- all pleasant experiences (I've reviewed those separately). The property itself is truly beautiful. In the winter, however, many of the scheduled activities and amenities seemed primarily geared toward families with young children. That's perfectly fine -- I've raised two boys, I get it -- but it wasn't quite the "grand" weekend experience we had envisioned. I can absolutely imagine that in the summer, with the stunning views of Lake George and the full range of offerings, this resort feels magical. In the winter, while still lovely, it didn't fully match our expectations for the price point. Overall, it's a beautiful property with kind staff and great dining -- just perhaps better suited to families or a summertime stay.

Large bugs crawling out of the sink. Mouse droppings and urine on multiple toilet paper rolls. Mold behind tiles of shower and tub, unit smelled of mold. Balcony had cobwebs we walked into, debris on the floor, and chairs covered in dirt and pollen. Had to clean the chairs myself before sitting. Rotting balcony. Very water-ed down coffee that was barely dark. This place was $650 per night, given all this (especially the health risks) I would expect a place in this condition to be more like $150. The staff was friendly though and the views are nice.

My experience aligns with just about every other 1-3 star review from people who've stayed at "the lodge". The overall experience wants to trend positive but there are very real problems that can't get me past two stars and would make it hard for me to suggest The Sagamore to anyone. "The lodge" is a row of condo-like rooms that were tacked onto the property at some point in the last ~30 years and remind me of college campus apartments. They're spacious and have quite large kitchens, which was a nice surprise, although there is no oven and the range takes _forever_ to bring water to a boil. Some of the rooms face the lake and feature a wonderful outdoor area but the rest face the parking lot at best or are below ground level and face a retaining wall at worst. The layout of the light switches inside the rooms was bizarre and we never fully got a handle on it during our three day stay (more on this later ...). It was an adventure every time we needed to turn particular lights on/off. These rooms are also in need of renovation. Our room had (what appeared to be) black mold emanating from the HVAC vents, the bathroom sink was cracked, the drain stopper was broken and a few of the light switches and sockets were hanging out of the walls. This would all be understandable if these suites were student housing but they're charging upwards of $600 per night to stay in these facilities. The rest of the facilities were _mostly_ nice. The views of the lake from the hotel and around the grounds are stunning. It's a very beautiful place to spend time. Our kids had a great time at the rec center and the afternoon movies are a particularly great option. We also greatly enjoyed the boat tours on the Morgan. There are 2-3 different tours which run throughout the day but they do reach capacity pretty quickly, so get there early. I say _mostly_ above because the facilities are showing their age in lots of places. There is some historical signage on display throughout the hotel which features fascinating bits of history and photos of The Sagamore. However, many of the signs are beginning to peel. There are also places where paint is peeling, there are sapling growing in the gutters, etc. The latter class of issues could be addressed in an afternoon and there's no excuse for that sort of shabbiness in a place charging such exorbitant rates. The staff is another problematic aspect of The Sagamore. Most of my family's interactions with the stuffy staff at the hotel (specifically) were cringeworthy and uncomfortable. They're clearly judging people based on some criteria and treating them with/out respect accordingly. They're like bad impressions of the "snooty" waiter in Ferris Beuller's Day Off. One of the employees who was driving a golf cart down the driveway towards one of the cottages yelled at me to get out of his way ("I need to get in there!") _while_ I was pushing a stroller. I'd be curious to know if he'd have given me the same treatment when I was visiting that cottage for a party later that day and he was sure I wasn't some peasant who'd wandered onto the island. There's weirdly only one place to buy coffee inside the hotel and that's at Caldwell's. (This is an obvious miss as a number of people in my party regularly walked off the island to get coffee at the local cafes.) I had an awful interaction with the maître d when ordering a coffee there. Upon entering, it's not at all clear if you can buy a coffee or where and this staffer treated me as if I was asking for directions to the nearest Chuck-E-Cheese when I inquired. I eventually ordered and left a tip for my drink and was met with a literal raise of his eyebrows when I thanked him. Ironically, some of the patrons who were clearly very wealthy (i.e. the people whose arses the staff would rather be kissing) were happy to see my family and our two young kids. We chatted with a number of people who were very friendly and fawning over our toddler before/after being treated rudely by the staff. As alluded to above, The Sagamore has a three-night minimum during certain peak periods, like foliage season. I was there for a wedding and this was a major point of frustration for many of the guests. Some people were able to get their third night's reservation canceled, so if you do find yourself stuck in this situation, it's worth calling and maybe you'll find a friendly ear. If you're attending a wedding on the grounds, my advice would be to stay elsewhere. It's likely that much of your day/s will be taken up by wedding activities on the island and you'd get to take part in those whether or not you were staying at the hotel. So, stay in a local rental or at one of the hotels which are a bit further aflung and avoid the three night minimum and outrageous costs that The Sagamore is charging for middle-of-the-road or worse rooms.

We all decided to have a family vacation at The Sagamore Resort in Lake George. From what we read; they had plenty of activities for all ages. Before we completed our plans to book the Sagamore Resort, I read about the history of this historical hotel. From what I read; the hotel has been around for a century. The early success of this hotel dates to when four Philadelphia millionaires, who vacationed in the nearby mansions of the hotel invested in the resurgence of the resort back in 1882. The resort has a spectacular scenic panoramic view of Lake George. Its old traditional ambience with updated contemporary resort upgrades specifically in the restaurant, pool area, gym and recreational area provide plenty of activities to enjoy. The resort rooms are traditional in appearance but are comfortable. I just do not recommend the balcony rooms. They are shared with a large balcony that anyone can visit at any time of the day. Especially when you might be resting. The staff are friendly and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the bartenders at the outdoor patio pool bar. This is the best place to stay if you are interested in an enjoyable Lake George vacation.

We had the pleasure of staying here the past two summers for a long weekend, both within the townhouses. They are not in the main hotel building but a short walk from it (and short walk to the pool). Sometimes feels like a trek going back and forth since it's a bit uphill one direction but it's ok. We LOVE their outdoor pool with a beautiful lake view behind it. We've also been in the indoor pool; nice option if it's raining or a cooler day. At times the pool can be relaxing if you find a good spot but other times a lot of kids. Our fave part of the hotel is the ice cream at 3:30 out on the lawn- we don't miss it! Their rec center is INSANE- a kids dream! Mini golf, baseball, video games, ping pong, rock climbing etc along with their outdoor facilities like pickleball and tennis. Never tried out the little movie theater or their art workshop (the stuffing animals one ahh!!) but such a cute idea. Everything in our townhouse was nice and spacious- loved the balcony especially facing the lake and hearing/watching the boaters (or deer!) go by. Oh also love the standard boat ride included that gives a tour of the lake and my daughter got to have her first time on a boat experience so she was pumped- just a nice change of viewpoint since we stayed at resort most of the time. I wish the restaurants were more family friendly at least with pricing.. or casual eateries..but we love a few of the places in Bolton landing just a short drive away so that's fine too (BEAR's CUP for a bear claw anyone?? I had to!). Just nice to walk somewhere if possible. Also was disappointed with their customer service two summers ago when my FIL needed to cancel the fine print was a little wacky- but we were able to move the date to reschedule without losing $ at least. Hopefully this will be a fam fave for years to come!

There's a reason for the mixed reviews here. The views are stunning. If you've never been to Lake George before, it is a very impressive lake. The Sagamore is perfectly situated on it's own little island where there are picturesque views from all vantage points. The days are packed with events for the whole family (e.g. arts and crafts, movies, s'mores, ice cream socials, and boat rides). Arts and crafts "class" consists of a couple of children wearing Sagamore shirts handing you a piece of paper with instructions for a craft. We spent a lot of time with the kids in the zero edge pool. It's a gorgeous pool overlooking the lake, and there's poolside food and drink service. It's a little concerning and surprising to me that there are no lifeguards at this pool. The Sagamore is an extremely family friendly resort, so there are a million small children at the pool. We felt comfortable only because our kids are very young and were each in a flotation device. My husband and I were on top of them. If I had older kids who were actually swimming, a lifeguard would be a requirement and, therefore, I don't see us coming back for this reason alone. However, there are other reasons to not come back. We stayed in the main hotel, which is quite old and in need of updating. None of the doors in our hotel room worked (also many doors in the resort itself do not work), and there was a weird smell in the bathroom. There are also weird smells all over the resort, which I kept getting unpleasant whiffs of. Not to mention the rec room, which isn't air conditioned and smells like feet. But I digress...back to our hotel room. The door to the bedroom didn't work. If you closed it fully, you weren't able to open it. My husband had to hurl his body at the door to get my children and I out of the room a couple of times. We told the staff about this, but no one ever came to fix it, so we just stopped closing it. THEN the door to the hallway stopped working one night and we were unable to lock the door to the room. The maintenance person was unable to fix it, which meant we had to spend that evening in the room. My husband and I ate dinner in the hallway in the dark while our children slept lol. The next morning they came back to finish the job with the right tools. During the repair, they actually locked us inside the hotel room and couldn't open it for a full 10 mins. We had to explain to the kids that we'd go to the pool once we were no longer trapped in the room . Eventually, they told us to move away from the door, and they were able to break it open with brute force. After complaining, they did reimburse us for this night. I really hope they repair the doors in this room and make them functional for future guests. This isn't really something you want to worry about while on vacation. The food at the restaurants is expensive but solid. Just don't order the adult mac and cheese at Mr. Brown's. It was grainy, watery, and bland. I don't know how it was even possible to make mac and cheese so inedible. It's such an easy dish to get right. My favorite meals were at the Pavillion, which is right on the lake, and La Bella Vita. All of the restaurants have lakeside dining which is really nice. So, yeah, I went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars but for the high price of this resort, it should smell better, have more updates and working doors, and lifeguards at the pools would be nice!

What a beautiful resort. Everywhere you look the place is taken care of nicely and has such a historic feel to it. The pool right by the lake is a nice touch. The staff are friendly here. We were here for a wedding and did they ever do an excellent job at making everything look perfect, and the food at dinner was outstanding.

I don't normally take the time to write a review for hotels/resorts. However, I feel the need to do so for The Sagamore Resort. We travel a lot for business and pleasure, so I have stayed in enough resorts and hotels to know what is standard and what is far below or above. This was my first (and last) visit to the resort. My husband and I were here for business, but had planned to extend our stay for a mini vacation after the Sagamore had been described as a "true gem" and "classic & luxurious". When making reservations, we chose a Main Hotel King Suite with Balcony. The charge for this room was $1,200 per night during our stay. My advice is DO NOT STAY in these balcony suites. The first time we opened the door upon arrival the room smelled very musty. I'm assuming it's the very old carpet. It is dark, so you can't tell if it's clean or not. The closet doors are barely hanging on. The wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling off, and the roll of toilet paper that was left by housekeeping was wet. This is what was noticed just in the first few minutes we were in the room (see pics). Once settled we opened the door to enjoy the balcony. Unless you enjoy being a part of the neighboring rooms conversations, you can't enjoy the balcony. It is not a private balcony area. The only thing separating the suite balconies from next are wooden shutter panels that don't even close off each area (see pics). During our stay there was a family with small children on both sides of our room. We were able to hear every yell, cry, rant, and running back and forth all hours of the day. We were also able to hear outdoor conversations over the television indoors. On the third floor above the balcony suites is a large open outdoor balcony that is open to all hotel guests. When staying in the suites below, you can hear every step taken in that area. Certainly not a $1,200 nightly experience. The overall atmosphere felt like three ring daycare circus. During dinner at one of the resort restaurants we witnessed an adult crawl on hands and knees attempting to hide and chase their small child. There is a time and place for play with the kids, and the middle of a restaurant in a so-called luxurious resorts is not it. We dined at BRGR Bar and had to ask to be waited on after being walked by numerous wait staff and seeing people that arrived after us receive food before we even had a drink order taken. You can also read my review for The Pavilion. Nothing felt "classic & luxurious" about this place. It is certainly not a "true gem".

How late in the season is the outdoor pool open. Is it heated?

We were there last weekend (10/2-10/4) and the indoor pool was open. Don't know for how long though. And yes it was heated.

The lake area is in a shallow cove and my kids were literally able to run out for a few minutes and still be up to their knees. The owners were super sweet and friendly and helped us out a few times when we were locked out of our room. Overall, this is a really nice family run hotel in Bolton and the location on the lake can't be beat. There are definitely cosmetic upgrades that could be made, but like many other hotels in the area it's a little old school. Looking forward to coming back - we had a great time here.

Properties are beautiful and well appointed but they are notorious for after charges with claims. My recent stay I was not happy that they don't release the address until check in time especially when traveling 3 hours to get there. Overall, the unit was relatively clean, although I did find hair left in the shower and cobwebs in the bunk area. The hot tub had not been cleaned and, despite being covered, was full of leaves and bugs. The shower water pressure was extremely weak and noticeable cob webs throughout the home. Also, the bunk bed is listed as a king bed, which is inaccurate. Despite these issues, I was happy with my stay and was even considering booking one of their properties again. Several days after my stay I discovered an unexpected $500 charge on my credit card with absolutely no notice or warning. When I checked the app to find out what the charge was for, I found a message from the host simply stating: "stained linens throughout the rental." This accusation was both vague and unreasonable. We barely used the rental and only slept in one of the 3 beds and followed all check out rules to leave the unit spotless. To be charged $500 after the fact, without any prior communication, photos, evidence, or opportunity to discuss the issue, was extremely disappointing and has completely changed my opinion of this property management company. After contacting Vrbo to dispute the charge and multiple attempts to contact the property with no response. northern provided photo proof of alleged soiled linens. 1. A kitchen towel/rag that had signs of food on it (washable), 2. A pillow case with a slight soiled spot (washable) and 3. A towel that had dirt marks on it (washable). All issues were normal use and could be washed and definitely did not result in the need to replace: as requested by northern to the extent of 1. 2 pillow shams (only one was soiled) 2. a new comforter which they had no proof of any damage to 3. New dish towel 4. 6 full sets of towels (only one set was even used - they provided 3 total - 1 set for each bed and the unused ones remained folded in place where they were placed by northern) Potential guests should be aware of the possibility of additional charges, inaccurate bed sizes and most important significant post-stay charges and proceed with caution.
