There's a reason Chella's is number 44 in the country. Go eat there. Order the Pernil Arepa. Both arepas have a well-executed and seasoned arepa dough that is totally Americanized. But I'm ok with that. This is a roadside arepas stand that puts out outstanding arepas. We came on a frigid Saturday morning and there was unfortunately a twenty minute wait for our food. This is unacceptable for a casual food stand. But they told us they had a large catering order to fill. So take that as you may. We got the Lomo Arepa: which is made with classic Lomi ingredients, steak, onions, tomatoes, and yuca fries. I found this one to be pretty good. The portion is fairly generous. The steak has been well-marinated, but held a bit too much stick on the bite. The Pernil (Honey BBQ) Arepa was a runaway favorite. The pork was perfectly cooked. The fats of the pork balanced out sweet BBQ notes. Sweet plantains, black beans, and shredded cheese added body to the arepa. read more

Worth the drive. We have visited the Lancaster Costco (from the Reading area) and seen this place but never stopped. Today we decided to make the trip just for lunch and I am so glad we did. I have never had authentic arepas but I imagine these to be them. The arepa itself was a perfect vessel for the filling. I got the pernil and it was so flavorful. From the plantains to the beans to the pork everything was delicious. And that chimichurri sauce. Wow. I want to buy a bucket of that. We also got the yuca fries. A refreshing take on French fries with amazing dipping sauces. Even though it is 40 min from here I will definitely be back, even without going to Costco . read more

Maybe we hit this on an off day but it didn't quite live up to the hype. The chimichurri and the yucca fries were amazing but the arepa lacked flavor without the sauce. And I needed a lot more of the sauce for the sandwich. The fries are enough for 3+ people, and they really were amazing. But be aware the chimichurri oil is spicy AF. I wish we had gotten more of the regular sauce and less of the oil. read more

I have to say, I would not have expected to find such amazing arepas in Lancaster, PA! I went to order two pernil arepas on a Sunday afternoon, as well as a side of yuca fries. They were pretty busy, so I went away and then came back to pick it up later. I was a bit hurried in eating my arepa, but it was delicious! All the ingredients melded very well together, and it was just a great experience altogether. My wife enjoyed hers as well, and the yuca fries were great as well! Next time we're in the area, I'll want to stop by here again for sure! It's easy to miss, but right across from the Costco parking lot. What a pleasant surprise! Driven by all the great reviews, we stopped by for lunch after our Amish tour ended. We had the pulled pork arepa and the lomo steak arepa with a side of plantains. The green sauce had a good amount of spice. The arepa was thick but can get soggy so don't pick it up late if ordering ahead. I ordered on the spot and waited 15 mins. It's a food truck with dedicated parking and outside tables, across from Costco. As you eat your delicious freshly made arepa, it'll have you feeling a little like you're in an episode of Anthony Bourdain and wondering how such an amazing place is besides a major highway. Always delicious. I tell myself I'll branch and try new things on the menu, but I haven't been able to yet, so much do I love the pernil! As someone with gluten sensitivity, I always feel good after eating here. It's good in a pinch if I need it to be, but I feel much better after than even when we eat Chipotle. I'm really disappointed to say I think this place is way overhyped and shocked that it's as highly rated (especially on a national scale) as it is. My fiancée and I got the Restaurant Week deal. It was supposed to be a $40 meal, but she somehow came home with a $50+ dollar receipt, so that's questionable right off the bat. If you bought all the food from the menu any other time, excluding drinks it would have come to $39 - the Restaurant Week deal gives you 2 sodas for a dollar. Big deal. For that amount, we got a Steak Bowl, Lomo Saltado Bowl, Yuca Fries, Sweet Plantains, and 2 cans of regular soda. Both bowls were minimal on the meat with 3/4 of them being rice and beans. The meat on both were okay. Overcooked and not terribly flavorful. I had tried the Yuca Fries elsewhere and ordered from Chellas because they're so good. They didn't disappoint during this visit either. The sauces that come with them are so good (chimichurri and cilantro aioli). Go for these fries if nothing else. read more

Don't be discouraged by the inconspicuous exterior- this place is serving up major Peruvian delights! Stopped by with my partner for some arepas and we were not disappointed. First we got two arepas just with cheese and ate them on the way home, then dug in to two more arepas, one loaded with pulled pork, beans, and plantains, and the other with steak. We polished off a side of yucca fries as well and man, this food was fantastic! The sauces were extremely flavorful and complimented the food perfectly, and everything was seasoned to perfection. Yum! It's like a little food hut. Tiny but has huge flavors. Gluten free, because it's "corn-grilled flatbreads." It's a messy and delicious sandwich! The homemade sauces were so fresh and intense! We ordered the lomo (grilled steak, onions, tomatoes and yuca). It is great. We shared it, because I couldn't eat a whole one unless I was starving. They have picnic benches, a little fire pit was going. The tables were full 20 minutes before closing up. What a great addition to the Lancaster food scene. Love their vegan option: vegetarian platter, minus cheese. Add sautéed onions, tomatoes and fries for the yummiest version. I prefer the platters to the arepas. They are easier to eat. read more

We had the chicken chimichurri arepa. Never had an arepa before but it was really good. The arepa was very crispy and was perfect with the chicken and chimichurri. Accompanied with a generous portion of cheese, this sandwich really hit the spot. We ordered a side of rice and black beans and that was also really good. For a food truck and what you get, this place is really top notch. Fresh made, friendly service and a great price point makes this a great place to eat at. Im scared to rate this five stars since Im not super experienced in Peruvian/Venezuelan flavors, however the freshness of the arepa, the filling and how carefully constructed my meal was makes me take the plunge. I truly enjoyed my arepa and the sides. My husband got the lomo and I got the chicken. We ordered a side of yucca fries and plantains. The arepa itself was airy and well held together. It had a delicate taste, fresh, crumbles in your mouth and a super subtle hint of sweet. I would say, if taking it to go, let the container air out cause I can see it getting mushy by the time someone gets home... The meat fillings inside were full blown savory and I really loved the chimi sauce, especially with the yucca fries. It was definitely authentic chimi, almost Argentina style. The plantains were ripe and cut thin so they were very sweet and not greasy, which to me, it the right way. The only thing I disliked was how windy and noisy the location was so it was very difficult to truly enjoy my meal. I cant take a star off for that though. I got the pulled pork Arepa, The Pernil Arepa, I thought it was cooked perfectly. I don't know how to explain it, but every ingredient was cooked to not be too hard or mushy and they blended together seamlessly. I appreciated that they had an intercom to call our names so we could sit down in the shade and drink a Joritos while we waited. Food is all made fresh to order so I waited about 15 minutes. I got the yuca and the grilled chicken bowl with a side of arepas. The yuca was nice and crisp and came with chimichurri and cilantro aioli. The chicken bowl was good but only came with rice and beans and I added avocado, so a little too basic for my taste. Beans and chicken would both benefit from a little more spice. It would be great if there was an option to add some veggies such as onions, peppers, jalapeños. Visiting area for work, from Detroit, and so that leads to looking online for places to get food. I happened to search on Yelp for places near the hotel and found Chellas. It had over 200 great reviews and the owner(s) responded to the reviews. That alone sold me. Once I got there and smelled the food cooking for the people before me I was hooked. Ordered a Chicken Arepa and brussle sprouts. The Arepa was amazing and the brussle sprouts were the best I've ever had. Crispy, a little charred, drizzled with a honey sauce. I would def be a regular if I lived in the area. Its going on my list to recommend to people as well as to remember if I am ever in the area again. read more
