I am writing this review after a deeply upsetting and unprofessional experience during my recent follow-up appointment. I was called in to discuss blood test results, but the appointment quickly devolved into a confrontation because I had not yet completed two routine screening tests (Mammogram and Pap test), which I delayed due to a recent family emergency. Instead of courteously discussing my situation or checking on my well-being, the doctor accused me of being uncooperative. He was visibly upset and--without any discussion--he abruptly stormed out of the room, leaving the nurse to speak to me instead. The nurse's attitude was equally dismissive. She doubled down on the accusation of non-compliance, stating I should change doctors, and added that I hadn't taken a previously prescribed medication. When I stated I had no record or notification of that prescription, she simply declared it was "not their fault" and effectively ignored my attempt to clarify a misunderstanding. The lack of care and courtesy was shocking. Patients should expect compassion and an effort to understand their individual circumstances, not to be treated like a child being reprimanded by an old-fashioned school faculty for "bad behavior." I understand now why this office has received so many negative reviews. There are many excellent, compassionate family doctors accepting new patients. I strongly advise anyone seeking respectful care to avoid this practice. read more

The office is the worst. I have had times when they don't even answer the phone. The pharmacy called me and said they couldn't get them on the phone, so I tried. Same thing. Chen is rude and condescending. I always walk out of there astounded at the things he had the nerve to say. Throughout the appointment, he just types into his laptop and doesn't even make eye contact, doesn't listen to your concerns or anything you have to say. At the end of the appointment, he will listen to your chest and that's it. I don't know anyone who has a G.P like this who won't do anything to treat the patient. He will refer you out to specialists for somebody else to do the work and the specialists ask why my G.P. didn't take care of it or why my G.P. didn't answer my questions. After a 45 minute drive to get there I was NOW informed that they wanted an additional piece of paperwork which I know was sent from my Physician's office. What a waste of my time. I am appalled at the way Dr Chen treated my daughter. My daughter came home in tears after her appt. He ignored her reason for going to see him. When she asked for a referral for therapy he asked her to tell him why she was depressed , he turned around and told her, *I'm d be depressed too"! He use to be a good doctor that really cared about his patients. No patient should EVER be made to feel like that. Please do not allow any Dr to treat you like this and please report him if he does. Mental health is as serious condition. If my daughter wasn't as strong as she is she could have committed suidcide. read more

The ABSOLUTE WORST. Obnoxiously arrogant and condescending. Here are three personal stories of why you should NOT believe anything he says. 1. In 2012 my grandpa had a horrible case of constipation that had been going on for a few days. Anthony Chen (I refuse to call him a doctor because that is an insult to doctors everywhere) told him to eat some bananas and proceeded to send him on his way. His constipation started to cause severe cramping and abdominal pains, and he went to see his gastroenterologist, who sent him directly to the emergency room, where he was found to be on the verge of blood poisoning and was hospitalized for over a week. 2. My mom felt a lump in her throat region and brought it up during an annual physical with him in 2012. He says to not worry about it. A year later the lump got bigger and my mom brought it up again at the following physical. Again, he dismissed it, saying "I wouldn't be worried about it." Unsatisfied, my mom insisted on hat she want it checked out. He wrote a lab order reluctantly for my mom to get a fine needle aspiration. It was thyroid cancer. Every visits since then he has been apologetically meek towards my mom. 3. I had been having irregular menstrual cycles for months, and I brought it up at my 2014 annual physical exam. He said it was amenorrhea and said not to worry, that it was not uncommon. Skeptical because of his history of misdiagnosis, I sought out an OB/GYN specialist myself, did a non traditional blood test, and found the cause to be a genetic disorder. Needless to say, NO ONE in our family trusts his medical opinions. We only go there once a year for the free annual exam and bloodwork covered by our insurance and to get refills on our chronic medications. We don't even go in for the lab results. We just have them send them over. What a sorry excuse for a doctor! read more

Today, I called at 9:45 am for cancel my appt tomorrow 10:00am since Im having cramp, they don't accept me to cancel my appt even before 24 hours and 15mins, even I have any emergency, she said they already confirmed yesterday. officer also told me I won't let you make appt for weekend in the future. Due to my medical coverage, I haven't seen Dr. Anthony Chen for over 8 years. First of all, his staff was awful, don't understand what is customer service. The receptionist called my insurance company to verify my coverage. I told her the preventive care is covered and no copayment is required when she asked for $60 copayment. She got mad at me for having her called the insurance twice. The purpose of my visit was annual checkup, she so stupid and not checking the appointment book and blamed on me for being an air head. As far as Anthony Chen, I totally agree with Nancy M review on 1/20/2014. He is one of the most condescending, rude, mean, obnoxious, narcissistic and pretentious doctors I have ever met. He didn't act like a doctor, he acted like I owe him money and he is doing me a favor by seeing me. All the questions that I asked, he answers was due to aging. What an arrogant, uncaring an aggressive doctor! Dr. Chen was my mom's family physician. Yesterday I brought her to see him because my mom has severe insomnia lately and always feel cold. The doctor does not know what's going on, so I asked if it could be the medication and if she needs to be on all those medications. Dr. Chen has been prescribing many medications from cholesterol to High blood pressure to osteopprosis and so on, in heavy dosages. I asked if she really need such a heavy dosage. He replied: "Are you a doctor?" That means, I better shut up if I am not a doctor. Horrible bed side manner. My moms cholesterol and blood pressure was suppressed down so low that it went out of the normal range based on her blood test in August 2011. He is not improving the quality of care of patient, he just look at numbers. "The staff, the medical assistant and the receptionist are nice though" Stay away from this doctor!! read more

Every time I've been there , he never lets me finish telling him my symptoms and rushes me out of his office within 2 minutes. His staff has no clue of what they're doing. Dr. Chen has been my doctor since I was a baby. Well his wife was my doctor first and then him. As the other Yelp review said he is very personal unlike doctors who really don't care about you as a person. He even makes it a point to write down your milestones in your chart like where you go to college. He's also very honest, when he is concerned about your health he'll tell you even though sometimes in the back of your mind you think it's not a big deal. His staff are also very kind. If you need anything talk to Lusin. She is very helpful and can answer a lot of questions. read more

He is never rushed and even takes the time to chat about other things happening in your life that might be playing a role in whatever is bothering you. I rarely post reviews, but after today's first visit at Dr. Chen's office, I can't help sharing my experience with people who are seeking a new internal medicine/family doctor. My family doctor whom I had for past 30 years retired last year, so I found a new doctor last May after carefully research for a replacement. Unfortunately, after two visits, I concluded that doctor wasn't for me although he possesses good medical credentials as many doctors do. Yesterday I called Dr. Chen's office for an appointment, the assistant was very helpful, she asked me to bring most current blood test/lab reports and scheduled me in for today's visit. Dr. Chen was very detailed and professional. He patiently spent time asking questions and even observed my vocal issue(not my reason for this visit) which has bothered me for more than a year. After spent 45 minutes with me, he referred me to an Otolaryngologist whom I was able to get a very satisfactory check up for my vocal cord. Dr. Chen's staff performed few in-house procedures for me are very polite and professional. Before I decided to try Dr. Chen, I read many old negative reviews but I felt those reviews described were out of proportion, do not objectively evaluate the quality and competence of Dr. Chen's knowledge and service. I am so glad to see Dr.Chen and his staff today, I recommend Dr. Chen to any one. read more

I totally agree with Sarah C's review on 4/23/2014,The office manager is horrible, doesn't know what she is talking about - no professional knowledge at all - and is so rude, she called patient just left door stupid. It all happened before my eyes. It seems new office manager is the source of problem - rude, bad attitude, incompetence. I am with Dr. Chen for many years, although I don't visit Dr Chen' office often. I still remember the previous office manager is so nice and very professional and always ready to help you if you have any question. I feel conflicted to write this review since I am considered the Duchess of this place. Unfortunately for me I come here quite often because I get sick a lot. Dr. Chen is one of the most condescending, rude, mean, obnoxious, narcissistic and pretentious doctors I have ever met. Both my mom and I have been seeing him for the past four years. I do not mean to sound like an like ingrate, I am grateful for the times that he has been helpful to my mother and I in our times of need when we have been sick and needed help. However there have been other times when we have really needed his help and he has turned his shoulder on us and not only that he has been incredibly rude and mean about it such as filling our medication and misdiagnosing our symptoms or as I like to refer to it pushing us to Dr. to Dr. to avoid treating us. Most of the staff is also very incompetent in helping me, I have called him numerous times to pass messages to the doctor in regards to my symptoms however they'll call me back on an unrelated matter. I understand that this neighborhood is predominantly Asian however it is becoming a melting pot of other ethnicities, however predominately of the staff is Asian and aren't fully fluent in English I do believe a language barrier is perhaps the issue here and is difficult to communicate which makes it very frustrating. However most of them are morons. I've been yelled at by him, he has stormed off from the consultation room leaving me behind and left me and my mom without medication arguing he never prescribed them when certain I have the proof from my medication bottle and pharmacy bottle. I come in sometimes twice for the same reason and nothing gets resolve, my copayment just wasted. I could go on and on about him but rather. Just make a complaint about him to the insurance company and get another dr. He sure seems to enjoy the pharm reps. After today rude and awful experience, I will be seeking my services elsewhere. My mother has been dr chens patient for years now. last year we were disappointed to find out that the office had let go of half of their staff. The new manager of the office is the most rudest person i have ever spoke with. A few months ago she refused to let my mother see dr because she had been 10 mins late after the walk in time. Unbelievable! there was nobody in the waiting room at the time. All she kept saying was if it was an emergency my mother should have called first thing in the morning instead of waiting till 3:10 to walk in. I didnt even bother to wait for an appointment i had to take my mother straight to urgent care. I have been in this office on multiple occasions when the doctor is angry. I have witnessed him yell at the top of his lungs, cuss and I think he may have even tossed a chart in the air. My mother had came in to get a blood test which dr himself had told us doesn't require a co pay but the office manager insisted that we had to see dr before we can get a blood test. he saw us for less than 5 mins before having one of his older nurses fish for my mothers veins to draw blood, the nurse had poked my mother in both of her arms and hands before finally being able to do it and than blamed it on my mothers veins. The old nurse never had a problem getting my mothers vein so I found that difficult to believe. Just recently the office had called me asking to have my mother come in to go over some blood test and other lab reports, the lab reports were from over a month and a half ago. I asked the nurse if they can mail them to me instead she said no because they didn't have a stamp, I explained it was going to be difficult to get a day off at work because we had been busy, I asked if there was a serious issue with the labs and the nurse told me she didn't know dr just wanted me to come in. we go into the office and the new front lady has the lowest voice. i had to lean in to hear her, and i guess that made the manager mad so she repeated what the receptionist said in such a rude manor. They asked for a copay which I didn't understand why, when they were the ones who asked us to return. I had to pay another $40 co pay just to review some old labs. we waited 30mins to be called. I also noticed the nurse that takes us in and who usually calls me to explain the results is no longer working in the office. so that explained the month late notice. the nurse who took my mom in the room had no idea how to respond to any of my questions she responded with "i dont know". we waited in the room for another 15mins just for the dr to come in and basically say "your cholesterol is higher than usual other than that everything is ok, dont worry just watch your diet" i couldnt believe I paid $40 to hear something a nurse could have told me over the phone. i think my mothers time with dr chen has finally come to an end. Everytime I come into the office before im even greated im asked for my mothers co payment, It seems like this office is only focused on collecting money. The staff is absolutely terrible and uneducated. As for the manager well she has made my decision to change my mothers doctor very easy. My dad had been a long term patient with Dr. Chen and since I took on my dad's care taker responsibility last October, I've been taking my dad to Dr. Chen. My first time experience with his front desk managers were that she was overly concern and compassionate about my dad. She almost cried when I took my dad in to see Dr. Chen in October shortly after my dad fell and after discharge from emergency. But more visits revealed more of her true personality and also the doctor's screaming personality. This morning, I took my dad in after another fall and emergency discharge (elderly really need to learn to take time and prevent themselves from falling), and we were late for about 30 mins due to my dad's physically condition not being mobile and I was not able to anticipate this amount of time to get him out of the house, into the car and out of the car), the head manager said it in an extremely mean tone if we know what time our appointment was. I was in rage and asked her to look at my dad's condition. He can barely move himself and it was a big effort for us to even walk into the doctor's office. I asked her (not in a nice tone) to have more compassion for the patients. If she wants to stay and service in this industry, more compassion will be good, if she cannot find compassion for patients, then change job. All of these attitude of late was over an empty lobby. There was absolutely NOBODY waiting for the doctor... Then we went in and waited for Dr. Chen to come in and see my dad. I provided all the emergency discharge documents and imaging on all the x-rays, CT findings and medications during treatment and discharge medication to Dr. Chen's nurse. He came in and asked questions which indicated to me that he did not review the documents thoroughly and did not even take time to see the imaging. His priority was to treat my dad's fever (because he believes the antibiotic subscribed by the hospital may not be treating the proper infectious area). Everytime I asked him a question pertaining to the emergency discharge report, he would tell me that he knows and he would then on the spot read the report and tell me that they are not important. I don't know how important or unimportant it may be, but I am concerned about a 9cm cyst plus multiple other smaller cysts in my dad's liver and also polyp in his galbadder. He would not take time to review anything and just told me to make appointment with another specialist without addressing anything about the cysts and polyp findings. At the end of the visit, I asked him to have his nurse call in my dad's prescription to the pharmacy on record to facilitate me picking up the medication because I don't plan on letting my dad out the car (it takes forever for him to get in and out of the car right now) and he sarcastically said that how do I expect the nurse to help call in the prescription after I screamed at her. I looked at him and was astonished at his lack of basic professionalism and mixing everything together. So bottom line is, (IMHO) he lacks professionalism to review all medical reports carefully, he lacks the common sense to separate professional service with staff emotion and he lacks basic human respect for the patient and caretaker. His front desk manager is a super pretentious person without true compassion for patients. My recommendation is to not trust yourself or whoever you are taking care of with this doctor and his office people! read more

Never want to go into Dr. Chen's clinic if you had conversation with horrible front desk. My father has Anthem Blue Cross HMO insurance but his primary Dr. is way to far from home so we decided to switch to Dr. Chen who is near by. We've called Blue Cross this morning to confirmed that we've made the change. After that, we called Dr. Chen's office to make appt. for tomorrow. By then, everything looks normal but 1 hour later, we received a call from the clinic and the lady info me that "Dr. Chen can't see your dad tomorrow b/c Anthem Blue Cross website has not updated your dad's primary Dr. to Dr. Chen." I said: I've confirmed with insurance company this morning, maybe the website need sometimes to updated but you can call Anthem and I'm sure they've changed. Clinic lady: "We called and it was changed but Anthem Blue Cross website has not updated yet so we can't take your farther in. We must see the website updated then we can take your father in." I said: My father is sick so we need to see Dr. asap, how much is the charge if we walk in as cash patient? Clinic lady: "We can't take your father as cash patient b/c he is under our insurance group." I said: My father is sick and he has insurance coverage and we've confirmed with Anthem that he is able to see Dr. Chen but you are telling me that I can't until Anthem Blue Cross website updated ?! No matter what I said, the clinic lady keep refuse to take my father in. If the Anthem website never updated, my father shall ever see Dr.?! It is ridiculous policy I've ever heard. Now I totally agree those previous review about this clinic. Their staff is awful, rude, mean, lack of experience. There are many Dr. out there, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay away from this clinic. read more

I would like do a free Physical examination test which is my Blue cross Insurance free once a year, I did few things that very normal. Few days later, I just want to pick my report, I know if I see the doctor then I have to pay extra, so when I received a call from doctor assistant, I asked her if nothing important, I just want to pick my report, the doctor assistant tell me the doctor wants see me. I thought the doctor must have something important for me, then just tell me do eat too much meat... And charge me $40 bucks, and tell me pay $23.65 extra for the free test... I still feeling I was cheating by this doctor office, I do not recommand this doctor... read more

Been coming to Dr. Chen since I was 13 and he's always been great. Usually I just come in for annual check ups for school/work and he's always taken the time to chat with me about my life and the office ladies are always doing what they can to help you out! My grandparents come regularly for new prescriptions and the visits are always pleasant as well. I think he's a great doc and recommend him as a family physician! read more
