Once again, I went with a friend to Cheniere Shack. I accepted the response from my last disappointed visit and try to patronize our local restaurants. Unfortunately, I was disappointed once again. We were seated ordered a couple of beers and a dozen oysters on the half shell a piece. After some time, we were told that not only were they out of oysters but our beer also. I am not really sure if I will make it a 3rd. We ended up driving across the parish to Clawdaddy's and had a wonderful experience. Cheniere Shack is just one of those hole-in-the-wall places that serves solid Louisiana favorites. The service is usually not great, but the food is what keeps us coming back. I always get the blackened shrimp salad and it never disappoints. My family loves their whole fried catfish. Good hush puppies and sweet tea. Surprisingly decent margaritas. Lots of desserts to choose from, my go-to is the coconut cake. We've been coming here for years and will continue. read more

we had to wait around 15 to 20 minutes to get a table while there was only around 2 tables, the butter was very clumpy and cold, Crawfish and corn was barely seasoned and the potatoes fell apart, we got an appetizer and we got the crawfish before our appetizer took an hour to get our shrimp, it costed almost 200 dollars for 20 pounds of crawfish and shrimp. read more

I spent some time in Calhoun for a week, we ate at the Cheniere Shack 3 x's. The food was amazing. The first time, I tried the blackened steak, cooked to perfection, the salad was great, the sweet tea (half/half) was delicious. I went back the second day, had a cheeseburger, another great meal and my last day, I had the fried chicken lunch special. The service, food and experience was great. Me and my girlfriend went here. I ordered crawfish, she ordered chicken. Crawfish came out filled with loose legs and claws (I guess to add weight to poundage), her chicken came out pink in the middle. Wait staff was unremarkable, they seemed to be disrespectful to ownership. When asked to speak with owner/manager he and she were very very rude. I immediately thought that this must be why wait staff was so disorganized. We both asked for our bill, paid, and immediately left vowing to never return. If you are visiting the monroe/west monroe area or just a local stepping outside your comfort zone I would steer clear of the cheniere shack. Well known for the fish and seafood, but don't forget to try the burgers. The 1/2 pound burger is old fashioned, big and every bite delicious. The French fries are fresh made too. No frozen food served here. A great option at a restaurant that already has a excellent reputation for seafood. Also a great lunch for two under $20. read more

Family dinner steaks and a chef salad. Steaks were cooked as it should be med rare and great flavor. Chef Salad was really good but missing eggs. We also had the fried crawfish app and they were really good, would have liked a remoulade sauce to go with them but still good.. waitress was good and very pleasant! Waiters, owners and staff seem to have an err of superiority about them and you will have to wait around most the time for food and drink refills. Atmosphere 3.5*- nice feel of southern hospitality not alot of character but nice enough. Service 2*- have been here multiple times because my grandfather loves it and of all the times I have only had one good waiter and the owners are always usually snobs. Onion Rings 3.5*- good flavor with some good tasting roumalade sauce but batter falls off of rings with little resistance. Crawfish 4.5*- some well seasoned and big enough crawfish. More seasoned than alot of places I go to with just enough spice to wake u up. Oysters 4*- I love fried oysters and they have some pretty decent ones for not being coastal. Coleslaw 1*- do not get. Has no flavor and adds nothing to your meal. Kids 3.5*- kids like going over to the crawfish tank and like the tvs. They do always bring a big box of colors to the table so that helps. They usually get corn dog and fries good enough but really nothing more special than frozen food. read more

My family have been patrons of this restaurant for many years. We enjoy the atmosphere and the food. We receive excellent service. Once when our grandson was five, we ordered a small adult fried fish plate and he eat everything very quickly and wanted "more, please". The owners were so pleased they not only brought him extra fish, but chocolate pie too. He is twelve now and when asked if he wants to go out to eat, he always asks if we can go to Cheniere Shack. read more

Our waitress quit during the middle of our meal. But, the worst experience was dealing with the manager / owner. Before the 5 of us sat down, I asked him how much was an entire lemon icebox pie in the display counter. He said $12.95. So, after we finished eating, I ordered an entire lemon icebox pie, a knife, and 5 saucers. I told the (new) waitress that we would just cut it up ourselves. Then, when I went to pay, the manager charged me $16.95 for the pie. I informed him that he had told me that it was $12.95, not $16.95. He told me that the difference was for cutting up and serving the pie. I told him that we cut up and served the pie ourselves. However, no matter what I said, he refused to change his mind. Having to deal with someone so greedy and stubborn as that, I can see now why our first waitress quit. HORRIBLE SERVICE! I had a table of three & ordered soft drinks, 1 cup of gumbo, a bowl of gumbo, cheese sticks, & hush puppies. The only thing that came out was the soft drinks & a CUP OF GUMBO. After the cup came out, the waitress & the rest of the food was nowhere to be found. After waiting so long for APPETIZERS, we decided to just pay for the cup & soft drinks so that we could leave. Upon payment, the old lady at the register showed zero empathy & most importantly, zero customer service. She took the coke away from one of the parties hand because she said "you're going to throw that at me." ???? The atmosphere & behavior was very much RACIST. As a former employee of a restaurant, this was very baffling to me. No apology was given & the lady just kept talking to us as if we were her children. 0/10 would NEVER recommend. I took 2 friends to lunch here on Wednesday just for the fried oysters. Not very busy, but poor service. Oysters were good. Came back Saturday night with a party of 8. Again, not busy, maybe 20 total in the restaurant. Waited about 20 minutes, then asked why we had not been seated. Apparently, if we ordered, it would be too much for the kitchen. With only 20 other patrons in the restaurant? After another 5 minutes, we left for Texas Road House. 250 people seated and another 30 waiting. Only took 10 minutes to be seated and order. I like the food at Cheniere Shack, but due to everything else related to the dining experience, I will not be back. The others in my group, all locals, said the same. Worth going 3 miles off the highway for! Shrimp was off tha chain. A little pricey for the location and being that it is a "shack" but everything was fresh and made to order. Shrimp were large and cooked to perfection - would definitely go back next time we are driving through Monroe. Yum! read more
