This Father's Day weekend, we celebrated at Chen's Mongolian Grill Buffet, and even though we've been coming here for years, this visit just felt different, in the best way possible. We had a party of 30 people and I called the day before to give them a heads up. When we arrived at 7:30 PM, everything was ready for us. We were seated right away, our drink orders were taken quickly, and the food was fresh and coming out nonstop. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming to our family. We've never had a bad experience here, and that's one of the reasons we keep coming back. The food is consistently good, and while Chinese restaurants may be a dime a dozen, finding a good Chinese buffet around here is actually pretty rare. What's funny is that my family owned a Chinese restaurant growing up, so you'd think we'd be tired of Chinese food by now. Yet somehow, we still find ourselves choosing a Chinese buffet whenever we get together. One thing we're always judging is the hot and sour soup. When you've worked in the restaurant business, you become a little picky about certain dishes, and hot and sour soup is definitely one of them. Since every restaurant makes it differently, it's often hit or miss. In my opinion, Chen's has the best hot and sour soup around. It absolutely hit the spot and yes, I had THREE bowls! What I ate: * Hot & Sour Soup * Fried Rice & White Rice * Chow Mein * Fried Chicken Wings * Fried Gyoza * Chicken & Mushrooms * Beef & Broccoli * Ribs * Sesame Chicken * Crab Rangoon * Sushi * Mongolian Grill Overall, the food was excellent. I cleaned my plate, and honestly, when all my nieces and nephews are eating more than just chicken wings and fries, that's usually a pretty good sign that the food is good! This is also a great place for families with kids because there are so many options. They have everything from pizza and hot dogs to traditional Chinese dishes. The only thing they're missing is tacos and burgers, and they'd have every kid's favorite food covered. With 30 people in our group and 18 of them being children, Chen's was the perfect place to celebrate Father's Day and Grandfather's Day together. Everyone found something they enjoyed, and the staff handled our large group with ease. Tons of ice cream options too! We'll definitely be back sooner rather than later! read more

I was so excited that my family wanted to go here. We paid about $160 for our family to dine here after an event. Some drove from over an hour away and we thought Chen's was the one perfect place. I made sure that we tipped the Mongolian grill staff $5-10/plate (even though it's included in the price of the buffet). I genuinely believe in taking care of our local establishments. And, at a buffet, I left a $50 tip just on the ticket (~35%) and yet the young lady working up front screamed at me for grabbing three to-go ice cream items (literally in to-go packaging) for my family because some are older, no one ate much, and no one realized that was an option. So I thought I'd get them for them. But the girl up front said no. I politely tried to explain and she immediately said she'd call the cops if I didn't leave. Wtf. You just lost a long-time group of people who were always rooting for you. That moment completely changed how we view this restaurant. Food was good, prices not bad, staff is rude and couldn't get drinks correct. Brought in a party of 12 and ordered drinks waitress got coffee for me and had to ask for creamer when it came it was bad. Left chunks in coffee. One ordered sweet tea and she kept bringing unsweetened. She did not seem to understand the problem. They charge gratuity for large party and the service sucked so we did not leave tip (as the card on tables say (if you enjoyed the service feel free to leave tip) we did not enjoy the service. The waitress tried chasing us down and knocking on window holding the sign from the table . Chen's was the best buffet of any type of cuisine in the Tri-county area for many years after opening. However, in the past two years the quality/taste of many of their staple dishes has declined to the point where it is not just tastless but, in the case of the hot/sour soup they had this past week the taste of dishwater. We started out with Chen's when it opened by eating there at least once a money if not more often, but now, in January of 2026 we find it not only more and more expensive but less and less a buffet that offers tasty food rather than slipshod, run-of-the-mill dishes no different than opening a can of LaChoy at home. Chen's food is not that tasty, yet the prices are very reasonable. It was a large area with not much ambiance like a cafeteria. There was a large assortment of food items, yet my husband and I did not feel excited by the food. The women owner was abrupt and not friendly, yet her husband was welcoming. My wife and I stopped and had lunch, which was very good but I got home and I got a notification from my bank that my card was charged 2796. The total of my order was 2330. I called the store got an extremely rude and abrupt person named who hung up on me twice refused to let me talk to anyone above her And would not explain why they overcharged me $4.69 on my charge card and to told me if I wanted to come in and talk to them about it. They would talk about it and if I wasn't happy after three days, they could probably give me my money back. I came here with my husband and friends for my birthday. The restaurant looked outdated and it didn't seem like a Chinese buffet, it was dark and kind of dingy inside. The service was good, it wasn't packed but the price is expensive for this kind of place. The food was decent, there were plenty of options and I did enjoy the sushi. I wouldn't come back here, the ambiance didn't do it for me, it felt almost depressing maybe it's just the lightening and the old seating, I didn't mind. Huge variety of buffet items food is pretty good for Chinese buffet and cheap too.they have Mongolian grill so you can craft your own meal with fresh items and the fresh meats and veggies are so cold it's partially frozen (the meats) . Gives me a good feeling it has not been sitting out. They also have steak cooked to order and other meats (chicken pork and shrimp) small in size it is all you can eat after a while they stop smiling like your going to put them out of business but it doesn't stop me from getting more. My brothers, mom, and I all got sick after eating here. Would not recommend. Very depressing atmosphere and the ice cream doesn't even taste like ice cream. It has tons of store bought items and the only redeemable quality is the sushi. It tasted like Kroger sushi, but it was better than the other bland-tasting food. Bathrooms were also not clean at all. the food was absolutely amazing and our waitress was super nice. she did an amazing job. however, the owner was at the front counter and was extremely rude towards myself, my coworker and clients. it was guys night out for the clients who are handicapped and have disabilities and she was ablest and unaccommodating. we had 5 clients with us with myself and my coworker, she was very rude right off the bat towards us. when asked to keep the orders for buffet separate, she proceeded to mix them together and gave us a bill for all 5 together which messes up our companies system of petty cash. then when one of the residents didn't want to eat the buffet, just wanted crab rag-goons, she said no. after asking the waitress who said it was okay, we went back up and asked again. she said she would allow it but if she sees him walk up to the buffet, she would be charging double. he cannot walk, he is in a wheelchair. read more

Not gonna lie this place is not 5/5 stars at all times, but I will keep going and for that alone I'll put it at 5/5. You have to go around the busy hours for the food to be good. But when there at the busy hours the food is really good. Don't listen too much to bad service reviews. They're short with you, not rude... there's a difference. read more

We've driven by this place plenty of times but we never would have guessed it was good since it looked so outdated. You truly cannot judge a book by its cover; one can have a fine dinner here and apparently the entirety of Saginaw knows about it. Despite peoples' general stupidity and COVID-19 taking over the media, this place was packed to the gills with all kinds of people. My husband is a picky eater who enjoyed almost everything at the buffet. But the real star of the show is the guy working the grill. You put your plate filled with goodies on the counter along with a sauce or mix of sauces of your choice and he will cook it up for you. I wandered off and when I walked by the grill again he stopped me to say my plate was almost ready. Everything was cooked perfectly. He remembers which plate goes with which face and he knows what he is doing. Please tip this man. The only reason that it didn't earn a clean sweep was because my parents did not like the sushi at all and some items at the salad bar did not get refilled. There was one sad tomato slice sitting there from the time we entered to the time we left. I think they just happened to be very busy that evening, I will be happy to come back again. read more

Food is always good, they have never disappointed me. Since covid-19 and now that they have re-open I am a little disgusted. You can no longer serve your own food, which I am ok with that. What I am not ok with is the fact that they are not changing there gloves as frequently as they should. I watch the owner(young girl) remove dirty dishes, wipe soiled tables and swept the floor and then tried to serve me with her dirty gloves. my fiancé and I went in on sweetest day because other places were packed , red flag number 1 this place wasnt so packed . When We got our food to eat 5-7 minutes we instantly felt sick.
